A boring, predictable thriller. Our narrator, Meredith, was so incredibly stupid. Every decision she made had me rolling my eyes and made it hard to care for her as a character. Every "twist" was predictable and nothing was shocking.
I was really excited when I found out one of my favorite romance authors was writing a thriller. Thrillers are my absolute favorite, and Vi Keeland does not disappoint with The Unraveling.
Tragedy brings them together, but not like you expect. Who is the hunter, and who is the prey? Is it really obsession, or just a need to know to appease the guilt you feel?
Just when I thought I had been shocked by the twist that I wasn’t expecting, I got hit with the biggest twist of them all.
The Unraveling is a must read for anyone who loves a good thriller.

So I know Vi Keeland has written a ton of fantastic romance books, but this is the first I've read by her. Her first thriller book. If you want to try a spicy thriller, this right here is for you. Grief, obsession, and lust are just a few things covered in this book. It's pretty crazy and I was here for it. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough and stayed up way past my bedtime to finish. It's fast paced, steamy and suspenseful. I felt like I wanted there to be more at the end. I definitely wouldn't have minded . Still such a great first thriller by Keeland. Hopefully she'll write more of them.

This book was a little slow in the beginning but i am glad i stuck with it! Great plot and twist! Highly recommend this book.
My first book by this author, and it will NOT be my last! Captivating plot, fast paced, and enough twists and turns to make your head spin. Still processing that mind-blowing ending!
Coming July 9!
New York psychiatrist Meredith McCall seems to have it all. As the wife of a professional hockey player with a successful career of her own, it seems like now is the perfect time to start a family. Or is it? When Meredith suffers through a tragedy, her perfect life begins to unravel. She manifests an obsession with a man named Gabriel Wright whom she shares an unlikely connection with. As she continues to stalk his every move, he suddenly shows up on her doorstep as a patient, forcing her to cross ethical boundaries and putting her career and possibly even her life at risk. The Unraveling has just the right amount of suspense and spice to keep you on the edge of your seat throughout!
This book was gripping from cover to cover!
I really enjoyed this one. I thought that it was quite clever and it kept me guessing and puzzle solving the entire time. I am looking forward to listening to this one on audiobook once it comes out to see if I notice little things that I missed the first time around. Overall, a great book! I will definitely be keeping Vi Keeland on my radar!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I loved everything about this book. The style if writing, the pacing, and the Then and Now chapters kept me engaged, and I needed to know what happened next. To be honest, the ending was a bit disappointing - I felt it left more questions to be answered. However, that can also mean there is a follow-up coming. Wishful thinking. This novel is definitely worth reading, though, and I look forward to reading more from this author.

ADDICTIVE!!! What an utterly gripping, darkly twisted, and suspenseful psychological thriller that will keep readers guessing until the very last moment!! Even the final reveal in the epilogue left me screaming and shouting!! In a state of complete shock, with my jaw on the ground, I couldn't help but wonder: WHAT IN THE WORLD DID I JUST READ?!?!
What do you get when a psychiatrist becomes the patient?! This thrilling, chilling, and unputdownable book!!
After experiencing a terrible loss, psychiatrist Meredith McCall feels painfully adrift. When she crosses paths with Gabriel Wright, a man connected to her by a shared tragedy, she becomes obsessed with him. How can he seem so composed while her life is in shambles? When Gabriel walks into her office as a patient, seemingly unaware of their past, Meredith knows it crosses all ethical and moral boundaries to treat him. Yet, she can't bring herself to turn him away and becomes further entangled in his life. As her personal and professional worlds continue to unravel, it seems things can't get any worse...until they do!
Overall, I was completed captivated from start to finish! If you're seeking an enthralling and suspenseful cat-and-mouse thriller that challenges perceptions of sanity then this is the perfect book for you. I would highly recommend this novel and cannot wait to read more books by this author!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
4.5 ⭐️ (Rounded down). This is the first book I’ve read by Vi Keeland and after researching her online I see that she is a romance author and The Unraveling is her first psychological thriller. I don’t have anything to compare it to her as far as her particular writing style since I’ve never read any of her other books but going strictly by this book, I have to say that I enjoyed her writing style. The story was very good and often had me on the edge of my seat. It wasn’t a full 5 stars for me because I didn’t like Meredith at all. This whole time I’m supposed to feel bad for her and try to understand why she does the things she does but I often caught myself annoyed with her character. With that being said, it didn’t affect my opinion on the actual story itself.
I hope that this author decides to continue with this genre in the future because she was really good at twists and shockers. It was a hard book to put down because the further I got into it, the more I needed to know what was going to happen! And the final chapter and that last paragraph….What the ____!!!!! 😳😱 I mean, that last paragraph alone was almost enough to bump it up to 5 stars!!!

This book was so good. It’s not my usual type of book. I loved Meredith and Gabriel. Parts of the book were so sad and some really twisted. I would love a sequel to see what happens to both of them. No spoilers. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
2.5 stars
I love reading about unhinged women. I just hate it when they turn out to be stupid.
Meredith is a psychiatrist, who lost her husband in an accident a little over a year ago. An accident that also killed a woman and her daughter. One day, she spots the surviving husband, Gabriel, on the street. He seems happy. Meredith, who cannot fathom this happiness after what her husband caused, is intrigued and decides to follow him.
It’s an interesting story featuring grief and stalking. But who exactly is doing the stalking?
I wasn’t that impressed with the plot twists and red herrings. They all seemed pretty obvious to me. Not to Meredith. And even though she is supposed to be this great therapist, she royally fucks up multiple times. While I get the stalking (it starts out strangely reasonable), hooking up with the husband of the family your husband killed while being his therapist is so unethical it’s stupid. And I get that this is what the book is, it just became less and less believable in my eyes.
I did enjoy the writing. Apart from the MC seemingly talking to her dead husband in some sentences while mentioning him by name in others as if not aiming this story at him. That was confusing me a bit, taking me out of the story. It is gripping and entertaining in most ways though. And I would recommend this.
I’d recommend this to people who would normally read romances but want to try out a thriller, a little bit of suspense, since this was pretty steamy still.
This was just okay for me. It felt like a lot of thriller cliches jammed together. It was easy to guess every "twist" and I just wasn't that interested since it was so obvious. I think perhaps people who haven't read a lot of thrillers will enjoy it, it just felt too overdone to me.
Tragedy, obsession, and a large dose of unethical behavior make up the foundation of this “psychological thriller.”
I always have a hard time critiquing an author’s work. I won’t say this one was bad, but it wasn’t for me. I was greatly missing the “psychological thriller” genre. In particular, I needed more twist and less smut. The few twists weren’t presented well and quite frankly weren’t very surprising… I won’t say obvious, but predictable. Vi Keeland is known for her romance novels, The Unraveling being her first thriller, and it show. Not that a true thriller can’t have romance, but the balance was disproportionate. Thriller? Romance? Both? Or… not quite either.
The writing was somehow too quick but also full of unnecessary filler. I found myself skimming and skipping literal paragraphs that were just not needed. They added nothing to the plot or character development and felt juvenile. Not that we needed to love or fully understand her, but the writing made me hate our protagonist. She was completely incompetent, unethical, immature and ultimately implausible - worthy of zero pity or empathy.
Now that I’m finished and have seen many rave reviews, I wonder if I even read the same book… to which again I say, it isn’t a bad book, just wasn’t a book for me. If I hadn’t come in with high expectations for a twisty book, I might have felt different, but was left wanting more.
If you want more of a “smutty thriller,” with vibes similar to You by Caroline Kepnes, this one’s for you!

Synopsis: Meredith is a psychologist and is struggling after some personal tragic events. She starts an obsession with Gabriel that she knows is not right. Will she be able to stop before it goes too far?
What I liked: I went into this book blind not knowing the author. It was a great popcorn thriller that kept me entertained the entire day until
I finished it. I simply could not put it down. The story is told in dual timelines with memories to her past and what happened to get her to where she is today. I really wanted to sit Meredith down and say what are you doing multiple times. Gabriel was the bad boy who shares a connection with Meredith. He sucks her in and it starts going down a dark romance path. I liked the thriller part of it better and could have done without that piece but it did add to the story. The pacing was nice and quick keeping you guessing and moving along. There were plenty of twists some that were easy to guess and some you didn’t see coming. I thought that made the reading experience enjoyable and made you want to continue it. I would recommend this for thriller fans. It is a great beach read and can be read in a day.
The Unraveling was a quick and easy read! Having read some of Vi Keeland's romances, I was excited to see what she'd do with a thriller. I thought The Unraveling was a promising psychological thriller debut! Keeland did a wonderful job pacing the book. Each chapter left me hungry for more. I liked how Keeland wrote Meredith's character. As the story progressed, I felt the tension and paranoia of Meredith's character. Although I didn't agree with Meredith's choices (when do I ever agree with the characters choices in a thriller?), I enjoyed her (messy) character. Meredith really embodied the classic unreliable narrator. I thought the side characters were okay! I'm not sure if it was Keeland's intention to get the readers connected to Gabriel....but I didn't feel any particular way about him until the end...WTH was that!!! I thought the ending was a fun twist. Overall, this was an entertaining read. Thank you to NetGalley and Atria/Emily Bestler Books for the ARC.
I only know Vi Keeland from her romances. I was blown away by her suspense thriller. I can't say too much without giving it away, but the twist was something I didn't see coming. I am recommending this thriller to my book club to read, just so that I have someone to talk about it with! 5 stars!
Loved this book! And what a perfect title for what was happening throughout the story to the main character. I couldn't put it down, I needed to know what happened next. And for the first half of the book, I needed to know what happened 'before'. Great twists I didn't see coming. Could have done with less sex scene, some seemed unnecessary, but overall I loved the story and will definitely look for more from this author.
⭐⭐⭐⭐
I am absolutely speechless at the plot twist in “The Unraveling” by Vi Keeland. This book took me on such a wild ride that I finished it in one sitting, and I’m still comprehending the ending!
The story follows Meredith McCall, a psychiatrist whose life takes a dark turn after a traumatic accident. The character’s descent into obsession with Gabriel Wright, a man linked to her past, is both chilling and riveting. Vi Keeland masterfully blends suspense and psychological intrigue, making it impossible to put the book down.
The ethical and moral dilemmas Meredith faces as Gabriel becomes her patient add layers of complexity to the narrative. The tension builds with every chapter, and just when you think you’ve figured it out, another twist shatters your theories. Keeland’s ability to keep the reader guessing until the very end is truly impressive .
The dual timelines revealing Meredith and Gabriel’s pasts were handled brilliantly, weaving a web of suspense that kept me hooked. The emotional depth and unexpected twists make this one of the best psychological thrillers I’ve read in a long time. If you enjoy edge-of-your-seat thrillers with a touch of forbidden romance, this book is a must-read .
Thank you, NetGalley and Atria Books, for the opportunity to read this fantastic ARC. All opinions are my own.
