I have not read Vi Keeland before and I am very glad I found this one. I liked it very much- I went in with no expectations. It was a taut and suspenseful story with a dash of romance thrown in. I will be on the lookout for more by Keeland!
Wow! This book was intense. The tension never lets up in this story! I read that the author has written romance novels before and this is her first venture into a thriller. It doesn't disappoint!
Meredith is a psychiatrist working in New York. She was living the charmed life until a series of events left her…unraveling. That is all I am going to share. If you want to read this book, I suggest you don't read reviews, or blurbs about the story, just start reading! This kept my attention until the last word. The ending was WILD and made me wonder what I had just read.
Thanks to Atria Books and NetGalley for the ARC of this book.
This was a fast psychological thriller that weaves a tale of obsession and grief with the lines between reality and delusion blurred. It took me on a wild ride! I wouldn’t really say there were twists along the way, but the writing was filled with so much suspense and tension that I couldn’t stop reading. The ending was prefect…I was blinded sided (in a good way) and wasn’t expecting the big reveal at the very end. This is a must read for psychological thriller fans!
The Unraveling is a wild ride. Keeland takes suspense to the next level, with many twists and turns and engaging characters. The ending left me speechless. I would go in blind to fully enjoy this diabolical thriller. I will say I hope there is more to come because there were loose ends for sure.
This book grabbed my attention right away and didn’t let go until the last sentence (which was one final twist). A psychiatrist/patient obsession but for underlying reasons you have to read to believe. The tension between characters was palpable. When I finished reading this I immediately ran to Goodreads to see Keeland’s backlist and found they were almost all steamy romance novels which makes sense because the handful of spicy scenes were spiii-cy but necessary for character development and sexual tension. I also loved that the main character is a psychiatrist seeing a therapist to address her own unreliable truths and psychological baggage.
Thank you NetGalley and Atria Books for an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I had no idea what I was getting into when I started this book. This was a fun, twisty, keeps you on the edge of your your seat kind of book. This was my first Keeland book. I look forward to reading more.
Dr Meridith Mc Call is struggling to move on after the loss of her husband. She becomes obsessed with Gabrielle Wright as he seems happy. She wonders how that can be and starts stalking him.
Meredith keeps crossing over lines she shouldn’t but she can’t stop herself. She is out of control and becomes more paranoid. Is she being followed? Someone is messing with her and she doesn’t know who to trust.
This had creepy vibes as so much weird things happen but keeps you wondering what the truth is.
This was a fun read! It was twisty and strange. I enjoyed listening to the audiobook and trying to put the pieces together to find out what happened with Meredith’s husband and why she felt so compelled to follow Gabriel around.
I liked the story and the way it ended, but I feel compelled to warn others that it’s WAY over the top. There is just no way someone would make any of the decisions she made (especially professionally) and it was almost absurd. If I start to think too much about her actions, I want to knock off stars from my rating, but I have to admit that it was entertaining and fun, so I’m trying not to be harsh about Meredith and her behavior as an acting psychiatrist.
If Harley Quinn could be a doctor and get seduced by the Joker, I guess I can cut Meredith some slack, right?
Overall, it was a nice thriller and I would recommend it.
I absolutely loved this book. Dr. Meredith McCall was such an unhinged character right from the beginning and I was there for it. She was the most unethical psychiatrist, but I felt for her through all her poorly made decisions. I found myself just as obsessed as her because I could NOT put this book down. It has twists, it built suspense, and my goodness did it deliver at the end. I hope to see more thriller novels from this author in the future.
Thank you NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to review “The Unraveling.” I was not familiar with the author Keeland, but I thought I would give it a shot and I am so glad I did. Wow, this book was full of suspense! Keeland keeps you guessing and the book flows so easily. It is a great thriller. I highly recommend it.
A truly captivating thriller with some spectacular twists. Very hard to put down.
Many thanks to Atria and to Netgalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
We have ourselves a contender for thriller book of the year right here!
The Unraveling
I hate to admit this was my first book by Vi Keeland, I must have been living under a rock. However, now that I have discovered this author, I will eagerly wait for a new publication while making my way through the back list .
I did find out this was Keelands first thriller and typically writes romance ( I am in luck because I love BOTH genres!)
Keeland did an incredible job keeping the mystery going while adding suspense! This book is DARK!
Obsession, deceit, lies ....
I mean come on!
This is a book that needs to be read by all! Easy 5 stars!
Check out this teaser :
This chilling, sizzling, and addictive thriller from #1 New York Times bestselling author Vi Keeland follows a New York psychiatrist’s dark descent into dangerous obsession.
This isn’t a love story.
It’s a story about obsession.
After experiencing a terrible loss, New York City psychiatrist Meredith McCall feels painfully adrift. When she crosses paths with a man with whom she has a tragic connection, she follows him, sparking an unhealthy obsession with Gabriel Wright. How is he doing so well while her life is in shambles?
But when Gabriel walks into her office as a patient, seemingly unaware of who she is, she knows it crosses all ethical and moral bounds to treat him. Yet, Meredith can’t bring herself to turn him away and becomes further entangled. With her life and career continuing to unravel, it appears that things could not get any worse…until they do.
AAAHHH that ending! I literally screamed, scaring everyone around me. That was so good I loved every minute of it. I even loved the cover. It sounds wrong to love a psychological thriller but applause to Vi Keeland on her debut thriller. Vi is known for blush worthy romance. No need to worry there was only appropriate placed scenes and 1 spice level. I was trying to figure out how it would end, and I wasn't even close. I waited for the audio on Libby and I am so glad I did. The narrator(s) did such a great job.
This was my first thriller in a long time and I’m glad it was The Unraveling by Vi Keeland.
Coincidences or fate? Or is it something else? Maybe calculated schemes? This is the topic that arises throughout this book and which makes it even more intriguing. This books was really hard to put down I enjoyed it so much. I highly recommend it.
This was such a fun and twisted thriller! At times I was infuriated at the dumb mistakes the MC was making, but at the same time, I don't know what I would have done either! So many creative twists and turns with a bit of *spice* thrown in. Definitely had guilty-pleasure vibes while reading, and had no idea what to expect - especially that ending!!!
Vi Keeland never disappoints and her debut suspense had me intrigued from the beginning. I thought I knew exactly what was going on but I had no clue. This is the story of Meredith and Gabriel, both of whom have experienced extreme loss and grief. The character development is well done and I truly felt like we were seeing an unraveling. I hope Vi writes more in this genre, I truly enjoyed it.
So exciting to see Vi Keeland breaking into a new genre! This was a creepy, fast-paced thriller that kept me turning the pages. I loved the setup of the psychologist and patient, and I loved how the main character felt like she was slowly losing it. I kept wondering what would happen next!
I really liked this book. This was interesting in which a psychiatrist and a patients lives are intertwined. She can’t stop obsessing over his life and how he can move on and be happy after facing tragedy.
SPOOKY and creepy in the best possible ways. would recommend this quiite a bit definitely, A++ work with cool ideas
I very much enjoyed this twisty psychological thriller. When I try my hardest to put the pieces together and still get surprised in the end...that is the signs of a good book for me. If you like therapist and patient dynamic with twists and thrills this is for you.
