I've read some of Vi Keeland's romance books, but this was the first psychological thriller. I was expecting some fun and/or crazy, sexy parts, and she didn't disappoint. I found it hard to put down even though I didn't like Meredith that much. She was still an interesting character - a psychologist who recently lost her husband in a tragic accident, who is obsessing over a man whose family is dead because of her actions. The first half of the book goes back and forth between past and present, so you understand her marriage, and also how the tragedy happened.
It's a thriller with some spice to it, so if you go into this book not knowing the author's previous books, you will probably not enjoy it as much. I loved the twists to this book; not everything is as it seems. A fun, sexy read with creepy undertones.
I liked the premise and the really questionable/obsessive behavior of both Meredith and Gabriel. It was an interesting look at two people broken by tragedy.
3.5⭐️ I’m a sucker for any scandalous mental health professional books. This was fun and intriguing. The ending was a little predictable, but I still enjoyed the ride. Stalking and obsession and an unreliable narrator. A great popcorn thriller. 👌🏻🍿
Thank you NetGalley for the advanced digital copy.
I finished this book right before bed and couldn’t sleep because my mind was still trying to process what I had just read.
The Unraveling by Vi Keeland follows Meredith McCall, a New York psychiatrist, as she deals with the aftermath of a tragic loss. Sometime later, walking out of coffee shop, she crosses paths with Gabriel Wright, with whom she shares a connection through the tragic incident, and she develops an obsession, though he is aware of her and her obsession. One day Gabriel walks into her office as a new patient, not knowing who she is. She knows she shouldn’t treat him, but she finds herself unable to turn him down as a client. We proceed to follow Meredith as her personal and professional life unravel.
This was my first book by this author, and it won’t be my last. The story has nice pacing, and the chapters were the perfect length making it hard to put down. Throughout reading this book I found myself wishing I could sit Meredith down and say “Girl, what are you doing? We need to think about your life choices”.
Thank you to Atria Books and NetGalley for the ARC.
Wow! Holllllyyyy wooowwww!! I am still in shock about this book!!
This new book by Vi Keeland is a thriller. I normally do not read many thrillers, but this one made me crave some more (especially if they are written by Vi). I love Vi's books in general, and I have to applaud her talent ... She is an amazing writer no matter the genre.
Regarding the book... Meredith is a phycologist and she suffered from a traumatic event and is drifting without purpose. That is how she meets Gabriel, a man whose life she influenced. But that is also the spark that lights up the entire book. The plot twists and turns, everything is happening and you end up reading the story through the night and you are hugging the kindle and are shocked with what you just read!
Brilliant story, great flow of the events, amazing characters and masterful writing! I highly recommend this story ❤️
I loved this one and it had such a shocking ending! The Unraveling is a heart pounding descent into grief, paranoia and obsession. I read this within 24 hours it was so good. I loved how the story was told by alternating between then and now.
New York psychiatrist Meredith McCall is adrift in grief after a devastating loss. When a chance encounter with a man from her past reignites a tragic connection, she can't resist following him. Gabriel Wright seems to be thriving, while her life crumbles. An unhealthy fixation takes root.
The unthinkable happens - Gabriel walks into her office as a patient, seemingly oblivious to their history. Treating him is a blatant ethical violation, yet Meredith can't let him go. As her personal and professional worlds spiral out of control, one thing is certain: things are about to get much worse.
Thank you Atria Books and NetGalley for the ARC. The Unraveling comes out July 9, 2024.
This was my first read by this author and it definitely will not be the last. This was a fantastic book in my opinion and it kept me on the edge of my seat until the very surprising end. There were a lot of things going on and I hesitate to say anything about the plot because I do not want to give any spoilers.
Thank you NetGalley and Atria Books for the ARC of this very exciting book and I could not put down. I look forward to reading more from this author.
This was my first book by Vi Keeland but I’ll definitely be reading more soon! This was incredibly twisty and I really felt Meredith’s descent into paranoia and semi-madness. The last couple sentences had my jaw on the floor, in the best way!
This book was ADDICTING! I literally could not put it down. I was do drawn to the craziness and rationalization that Meredith was doing to herself for her behavior. The pace was absolutely PERFECT. I loved how we didn't even know what Meredith's husband had done until almost halfway through the way book. My mind was running RAMPANT with could it be this? Or what about this? I haven't read a book like this in a long time. I have read that there is hope of a book 2 and I want to second that!!
Meredith is at a low. She is still reeling and trying to grapple with what her husband did and how much it has changed her in every way. She finds herself not motivated to do anything but feel guilt. Since she is not working she finds herself with a lot of time on her hands. One day she happens to run into Gabriel Wright who was also affected by her husband's actions. But somehow Gabriel seems happy. That can't be right. His life was ruined. Meredith decides she is going to follow him to be able to witness when he shows how he is truly doing. Though she recognizes this is wrong she can't help herself. She discusses her behavior with her therapist and decides she is in the wrong. Now she is ready to start up her practice again and see patients. But when Gabriel walks in one day as a new patient and doesn't recognize her, all bets are off. She KNOWS what she should do but does she do it? Nope she sure doesn't. She has become obsessed with the idea of Gabriel's happiness, and it has somehow become intertwined with hers. She finds herself feeling when she hasn't felt anything in over a year. Lines are beyond crossed. Lies come out into the open and when another patient that Meredith has been working on gets thrown into the mix and truths are revealed Meredith has to ask herself how far is she willing to go to get justice for what happened?
This book is about addiction is multiple senses of the word. Addiction to substances. Addiction to people. Addiction to what you can't have. It goes through the thrills and experiences of before and after said addiction has been tasted. Vi did an EXCELLENT job with the roller coaster of emotions with all of the characters who were struggling in their own way. I found myself rooting for Meredith and Gabriel to work out. Their chemistry was off the chain. The twist at the end though MAN I did NOT see that one coming. How freaking diabolical!!!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review! I can't wait to tell everyone I know to pick up this book immediately!!!
Read this in less than a day! The premise was well thought out and the attraction between Gabriel and Meredith was palpable. The tension between the both of them keep me intrigued throughout the entire book and for a thriller, that's a great feat.
It's not often that a thriller leaves me speechless. I hate to say it, but these days it's the truth. This story left me with my mouth hanging open and I had to sit and literally say WTF for a few mins to myself and actually let my brain catch up to the last twist that Keeland delivered. My mind was so set on one avenue the author took me down that I didn't even see it coming while I was reading it. This book was fantastic! It was engaging and it draws you in, you just want to settle in and rip through the pages and find out everything you possibly can about these characters. They're fascinating and damaged, slightly unhinged. There're secrets galore that you uncover, slowly and one by one.
The Unraveling, written by Vi Keeland, is a mystery thriller with a psychological twist.

I have read several titles by this author, all romance stories. This is my first mystery/thriller by her and I was not disappointed! From the very beginning I was intrigued, trying to guess what had happened in the past to warrant such twisted actions. If you like books that keep you guessing till the very last sentence of the book, then this book is for you!

The Unraveling by Vi Keeland
This was a page-turning psychological thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. Meredith McCall, a New York City psychiatrist, finds herself treating Gabriel, a patient who shares a common and tragic bond with her. She treads through uncharted territory with him as she teeters on a line that shouldn’t be ethically crossed as she continues to treat him as a patient. As her life begins to unravel, Meredith gets herself more and more intertwined with Gabriel with each turn of the page. As you read one thrilling page after the other you will be left with a complete revelation and chilling ending! A must read!
Many thanks to @NetGalley and Atria Books for the digital ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Meredith and her husband Connor seem to be living the good life. She is a psychiatrist and he is a hockey player. But an accident on the ice changes everything. Suddenly, Meredith must figure out how to navigate her new normal and somehow deal with her grief.
A chance encounter with Gabriel, a man who should be suffering at least as much as Meredith sends her down a dark path. She makes one bad decision after another. But the fog starts to fade from her eyes, and the question is, who is the cat? Who is the mouse?
I’m not going to skate into potential spoiler territory. Let me just say it pained me to have to adult and put this book down. I’m not a fan of spice and there is some between these pages, but I didn’t even care. I had to know how this story would wrap up. Holy hockey pucks! I did not see that ending coming. This is the kind of book that I love reading on the beach. 4.5 stars.
4.5 ⭐️ mA’AM, ma’am, what was this???
As I type this, my brain finally—FINALLY understands what that ending was implying and now I’m just 🤯.
The Unraveling is Vi Keeland’s debut thriller, and let me say that I could NOT put it down once I got into it. I was pushing it by trying to read at work!
Dark twisted obsessions, lots of secrets, and hidden connections that make you backtrack like HOLD UP—
Meredith is a psychiatrist in New York, where she tries to find her footing again in life after suffering a horrific tragedy layered in grief, guilt, and secrets. There in which, she stumbles upon a man who has ties with the tragedy— Gabriel Wright— and starts to follow him because her grief-addled mind cannot comprehend how he seems so…normal, and happy after HIS loss. Meredith needs to know, and needs to see if it’s a mask he wears or if he really HAS moved on.
This builds up into a descending obsession, dangerous, but she never felt so alive before seeing Gabriel.
Then he walks into her clinic as her new patient and things start to unravel…

4.75 stars rounded up. WOW. Just…wow.
I read this in one day and it was hard for me to put down. This was a great plot, fast paced and just kept me guessing.
There was a bit of spice, which I’m not into. However, it was kind of necessary to connect the dots. The sex scenes were definitely breadcrumbs! Speaking of which - the outcome wasn’t a shock, but it definitely was a winding road getting to the end and it was an enjoyable ride for sure.
Advance reader copy provided by Atria and NetGalley but all opinions are my own.
Wow, I'm still picking my jaw off the floor. The twist and turns and the ending, was not expected. One of my favorite reads so far this year. Still a little lost for words and a must read.

4.25 Stars
This was a super fun, fast paced, and addicting thriller read! Being a psychology student, I loved the psychology lore that was incorporated into the story, with the main character being a psychiatrist. The twist in this book was definitely one I did not see coming at all! And the big reveal at the end… I gasped!
This one started strong but to be completely honest I struggled to finish it. The book is written in first pov and I enjoyed the writing. I also think that the book could have been a bit shorter and the plot twist was obvious to me. I would highly recommend this one to someone who usually reads romance books and want to get into thriller/suspense genre cause I think they would loved it.
V I Keeland has entered new territory than her usual romance genre and I hope this will not be her last.! I enjoyed this psychological thriller and especially liked the stalker/stalkee storyline, and trying to figure out who really is the hunter vs the prey.
Read this if you enjoy:
-some spice and romance in your thrillers
-psychological thrillers with lots of twists
-satisfying ‘what just happened’ ending
-cat and mouse trope
-dual timelines
-unreliable narrator
-flawed characters who are recovering from trauma and make questionable choices
-skewed moral compass and ethics
-face paced popcorn read
My rating 4 out of 5
Thanks to NetGalley and Atria/Emily Bestler Books for this eARC that will be published July 9 2024.
