This was a very tense read, I was internally screaming at Meredith, the main character because her actions were so incredibly dumb. She definitely unravelled through the course of this book! I wasn’t keen on the first person and the constant repetition of her guilt and what her husband did. It felt contrived and lazy writing from the author.
I don’t mind that I didn't like the characters, especially Meredith who was intensely self-absorbed. The lack of empathy and care I had for her though took away some of the joy of reading. I skimmed through, just wanting to see how it would end. The ending was good and I liked the twist and the cliff hanger it left.
Thanks NetGalley for the ARC.

Many thanks to @atriabooks, #emilybestlerbooks, and @netgalley for my #gifted (free) copy. Pub date 7/9/24.

Everyone is talking about this book, so of course, I had to make this a priority read. Once I started, I could not put it down. It grabbed me from the very first page, and it never let up throughout the whole book! I definitely recommend adding this one to your list!

I am going to be very vague with my summary, so I don't give away any clues.
Meredith McCall is a psychiatrist in New York City, and she just had something traumatizing happen to her that she now needs her own psychiatrist. Gabriel Wright is a new patient of Meredith's, and as soon as he walks in, she recognizes him instantly from that terrible night. Should she tell him who she is? Should she cancel her sessions with him? Does he recognize her also?

WHAT. THE. F#$K. WHA…WHAT??! WOOOOOOW.

Okay, now that my brain has had time to process from what my initial reaction was and then discussing it with my BFF, I’ve had time to form a more thoughtful response.

This was a train wreck and evoked so much emotion and stress. I constantly had to take breaks for the last 20% of the book. This was wicked, raw, and sad. Just because there were no likable characters does not mean this book was bad. Completely just the opposite. What makes this book very engaging and entertaining is that it is so messed up in its complexity and I loved talking with my friend about it. I’m sure we’ll have more discussions in the next couple months. The topic of therapists and the fact my friend is one just gave it a greater level of perspective and insight. She enjoyed it for the same reason, but mostly likely gave the character many more eye rolls than I did, given her position. 😉😏🤔

I’d suggest anyone to read this just for the pure craziness of it all.

The Unraveling is Vi Keeland's debut thriller and she did a marvelous job with this book.✨

This book sucked me into the story from the very first page and I couldn't stop once I started reading it. It kept me guessing the plot till the end and what an end it was, completely unexpected.🫣

The story revolves around Meredith,a psychiatrist in New York who recently experienced a tragic incident in her life which left her in shambles, while she's trying to face the after effects, she sees Gabriel Wright completely mended, who experienced more trauma from the same fateful incident in both their lives. This leaves Meredith curious and with lots of unanswered questions.

And what happens when Gabriel becomes her patient and what happens when there is undeniable attraction between two people who had same fateful night upending their lives. The more Meredith tries to find answers the more she's caught in the web of tragedy and a yarn of questions.

This is an amazing psychology thriller and a must read for readers. The way this book has me completely captivated from the beginning is just amazing. Grey parts of life after a loss in one's life is described beautifully and the writing is perfect as always by the author.

This book keeps you on edge through entirety and is an amazing read .Hope we get more books like this from Vi Keeland.

Please check trigger warnings before reading.💕

The Unraveling by Vi Keeland is a dark and twisty page-turner! Psychiatrist, Dr. Meredith McCall, is trying to pick up the pieces of her shattered life and career after tragedy struck her family. Grieving deeply and feeling guilt for the part she played in the tragedy that destroyed the Wright family, she sees Gabriel Wright out and about town one day. To her surprise he looks...happy. How can he be happy with all he has lost? How can he smile when she is feeling so much grief? She begins to follow him in search of answers. Later, he shows up in her office as a patient. Going against everything she knows to be right, she gets drawn in and an unhealthy obsession takes hold.

Vi Keeland lets the reader in on just enough to keep the pages turning long after we should close the book and go to sleep. This book was a quick read. Although it was twisty, I wasn't surprised by much until the end! This is my first Vi Keeland book. If she writes another thriller, I'll likely give it a chance.

Thanks to Netgalley and Atria books for this suspenseful ARC.

I wasn't a fan of thrillers, so this is my exception to this genre. But I thought, if Vi Keeland has written one, I need at least to try it, and now I'm obsessed with it. This is how a non thriller reader stars reading thrillers. That's on you Vi.

Oppinion:
The first 15% was hard for me to get into the story (but this is the part of being a romance reader), but as soon as I got the hint, it was all easy to follow. And I truly inhaled the whole book.
The writing is as always fluid and easy, even for non native reader.
The story is interesting, intriguing, with spice and thrill, and with unexpected twists.
I found it great to connect the dots by myself and following Meredith on her darker side. She is relatable for me. I could understand her, even if I would not follow her steps. But at least it's understandable how she's doing and her reasons.
The main subject followed in this book wasn't as heavy as I thought primarily.
The twists just blown my mind with the tension filled scenes, and there are a few.
But I still can't get over the end. I think there must be at least another book following Meredith's life. I truly need a little more into this. (When you read it, you understand it)

Conclusion:
If you're not a thriller reader before this, you become one addicted to them. Vi just got me into a genre I wasn't even open up to until now. So, thank you for showing me the other side of the bridge. This story is intriguing and interesting with a little spice and thrill.

About the book:
After experiencing a terrible loss, New York City psychiatrist Meredith McCall feels painfully adrift. When she crosses paths with a man with whom she has a tragic connection, she follows him, sparking an unhealthy obsession with Gabriel Wright. How is he doing so well while her life is in shambles?

But when Gabriel walks into her office as a patient, seemingly unaware of who she is, she knows it crosses all ethical and moral bounds to treat him. Yet, Meredith can’t bring herself to turn him away and becomes further entangled. With her life and career continuing to unravel, it appears that things could not get any worse…until they do.

We meet our FMC Meredith, a psychiatrist in NYC, who recently lost her husband in a tragic accident and she's reeling from the guilt and loss of it all. So in order to subconsciously punish herself, she begins stalking the husband *enter Gabriel Wright* of the family whose life her husband ruined.

Logical? Nope.

But that doesn't stop Meredith from doing it anyway! From there, her life and career spirals out of her control as she becomes paranoid and frantic to find out how he's managed to cope after his catastrophic loss. Her interest quickly turns into an obsession and while she knows it's wrong, morally and ethically, she can't quite seem to stop.

This storyline and writing was so addictive! Just when you think you have it figured out, another twist jumps out and makes you second guess yourself. Vi Keeland did a masterful with turning Meredith into an unreliable narrator whose thoughts were all over the place and left me to try and piece it all together. But my god, was it exciting! While the whole book had me eager to turn the pages, the last 20% was heart pounding. The last twist was mind blowing and I'm still trying to wrap my head around it.

While I haven't read any other books by Vi Keeland, I'm about to burn through her entire library because if they're even a fraction of how good this book is, I'll be so pleased!

Well that was interesting.
It's something totally new from what we are used to from Vi Keeland. The Unraveling is her first thriller, and it's a good start.
I have mixed feelings in regards of this book, that's why I can only give 3.5 stars. I felt like the main character, was acting childish at times. She seemed very lost, and very not OK mentally, but that could have been the consequence of grief and the profound guilt she felt. Might have been just me, but I could barely follow the happenings, and I didn't quite understand Meredith's actions. It all felt a little jumbled up, but like I said it could have been just my experience. After the first half things started to make sense, the story line got angsty and that curve ball at the end.... well t hat was just very unexpected but brilliant.
So in conclusion, all in all it was a good book, and if Vi decides to write another thriller, I am there for that one too.

It's been a couple of days since I finished this book, and I am still thinking, WTF did I just read?

I enjoyed the premise, and the first, say third of the book was great.

But then our leading lady Meredith became something that I just can't do... she became the kind of woman that is just too stupid to live.

For a so called smart woman, gees she made some dumb a** decisions. And I just couldn't take her or her story seriously after that.

I did nearly DNF a few times, but I pushed through.

I didn't fell any kind of connection for any of the characters, no one was really likable, and It just wasn't for me.

first of all, i was so excited to read a thriller by such an eminence of a romance writer as Vi Keeland. that said... i'd like to warn her readers that this was neither a romance nor a romantic suspense. if anything, this felt like a really un-thrilling thriller, where nothing unexpected happened, there was no mystery or enigma to solve to begin with, there was no feeling of unsettlement/fear, and it also happened to have some "erotic" elements that added nothing to the story OR the characters. its saving grace was how fast i read this, it's a mindless book to read for a few mildly entertaining hours. i was disappointed unfortunately.

This book had so many different stories as part of the main story! I really enjoyed it. Meredith, the main character, is a psychiatrist married to a professional hockey player. He sustains a devastating injury and becomes depressed and addicted to Oxycodone. While also drinking and driving he has a fatal car accident which also claimed a mother and child as pedestrian victims.

Meredith goes into a tailspin after this, in part due to some plot points I won’t reveal here. She sees Gabriel Wright, whose wife and child were killed in the accident, one day and follows him out of curiosity. She’s still grief-stricken and trying to come to terms with all of it. Then she spirals into an obsession with this man, sending her into many actions that are impulsive, reckless, and unsafe.

I don’t want to spoil any of the book, so I won’t detail any specifics, but there were times when I wanted to shake her and say, “What are you thinking?” What a mess!

This one had me wanting to pick it back up after I put it down. A really imaginative story with another big surprise right at the end.

My thanks to NetGalley, Atria, and @vi_keeland for the complimentary digital copy. My review is voluntary.

Whoa. This story is amazing. Twisty and deceptive in all the best ways. A brilliant game of cat and mouse that constantly left me wondering which character was the cat. The feeling of reading it is reminiscent of how I felt reading The Silent Patient. I could barely put it down with wanting, no, needing to know what would happen next. Utterly riveting! I was so lucky to be able to read an early copy of this psychological thriller and I cannot wait to share it with my friends. I’ve already preordered a couple of copies for them. Go order your copies now. You do not want to miss this one!

WOW!! Vi Keeland. I WANT MORE!! I was instantly hooked, and captivated the entire time! I could not get enough! Best book I have read in a while. Please let there be a sequel!

Twisted.

So many different elements in one hell of a thriller.
This one will make you look over your shoulder at every turn.
What happens where a therapist becomes obsessed with her patient?

Reading this felt taboo. It’s like watching a horror film where someone recommends they all split up and you’re sitting there going “NOOOOO THE KILLER IS GONNA GET YOU.”
Mixed with a little spice - the ultimate page turner.

My first of this authors reads. Won’t be the last

Quick, twisty thriller. Obsession and what it does to a family, addiction and the issues it raises as well as mental health and how that needs to be protected at all costs.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of "The Unraveling" by Vi Keeland. Without giving too much away, the story follows a psychiatrist/hockey wife whose life is flipped upside down when her husband is involved in a tragedy that leaves multiple people dead. This was a solid thriller that I'd rate 3.5-4 stars. I enjoyed the acknowledgment throughout the book that certain activities had consequences attached to them and could result in disaster - I dislike when a book glosses over real issues that could arise. Overall I enjoyed this and raced through the last 50% to find out what happened.

This was my first book by Vi Keeland. This was a SOLID 5 stars! It was FANTASTIC! I was glued to the story from the first few chapters. We follow Meredith, who is a psychiatrist. She is married to a famous hockey player, their marriage is passionate, and they are deeply in love. They are even planning on starting a family. Something happens out of the blue that unravels their plans and lives as well as another family's. It is hard to continue to say much about the plot without spoilers. I so enjoyed Meredith's character. I got to know her so well that I felt like I was in her mind, or she was sharing her deepest thoughts with me. I have read so many psychological thrillers, and only a few always stand out to me as my favorites.....ones that really took me on a journey and left me saying what the heck just happened? This was one of those. The Unraveling will stay with me for quite some time. It had one of the best endings I have experienced so far this year. I am so sad its over. 5 stars!

With Meredith trying to pick up the pieces after the death of her husband, the events leading up to and after his tragic car wreck, she is barely existing when more problems find her. Her obsession over finding the husband of the wife and child her husband killed, seems only to cause her to stalk him wanting to understand how he could seem to be so happy. While at times the plot seems to be slow, I found it quickly picked up, as we find out more disturbing facts of stalking and being stalked. This is a good physiological thriller with an ending I did not see coming.

What the actually eff is happening. This book! Full of twists and turns and a couple upside down moments. But that ending….THAT ENDING! My mouth is on the floor! My mind says….did you read that right?!

My applause to Keeland for writing this twisted thriller. I love her romance stories but this one is not romance. But it’s just as good and maybe even better because she drops a bomb on us!!

This is a story about a psychiatrist who is going through it. Losing her husband, knowing things she’s not proud of. Doing things she shouldn’t be doing. She’s a literal grief stricken mess. When her life feels like it’s imploding again and the twists make things worse. Keeland reaches out and grabs your attention from the very first page to the very last. Bravo for a phenomenal thriller.

Thank you to Netgally for a copy of this book.
