If I had to sum up my thoughts of The Unraveling with one word, it would be “Wow.” This suspenseful, twisted novel will keep you on the edge of your seat, from start to finish. The ending will leave you stunned and reveal just how evil a villain can be. I don’t want to say much about this book, for fear of spoilers. Definitely recommend to readers who enjoy suspenseful reads.
Thank you @netgalley and Atria Publishing for an advanced copy of The Unraveling, in exchange for my honest review.
I am quite certain my brain is actually unraveling about this story this twisted and turned.. and suprised me in it all. This is quite the obsession story that you think you know whats coming and its never going to come. ..
I feel soooo numb this was great! and would make an excellent audio/movie
Author Vi Keeland, get back here and answer for your sins!!!! 😆
Vi Keeland expertly transitions from romance into her debut thriller, The Unraveling. I found myself at the edge of my seat as the suspense builds chapter by chapter. I could not put this book down until I finished it completely- losing so much precious sleep.
Dr. Meredith McCall is faced with so many emotions as her life crumbles before her. A once idillic marriage and thriving psychology practice is now broken pieces of a life she no longer has. While exploring her own guilt in a tragedy that forever altered her life, Meredith finds herself entangled in a dangerous game- following a victim of the tragedy that ruined everything. Is this obsession? Guilt? A mental breakdown?
Page after page, Vi Keeland provides us with a perfectly written psychological thriller, while introducing us to her previous specialty, adult romance. Both genres blend together so smoothly you’ll forget which genre you’re in. 100% perfection.
Thank you NetGalley and Atria/Emily Bestler Books for this advanced readers copy.
I haven´t expected this. I have always loved books written by Vi Keeland, but those I read were love romances, yet this one is truly different from her previous style. It´s a psychological thriller. The words were playing with my mind, with my emotions as I would dare to say I lived the anxiety together with the heroine. I was invested in the whole story and the unexpected twist was simply brilliant. You truly don´t know who is sane, what to think, and whom to trust. It´s been a splendid rollercoaster drive to the unknown and the end..... holly Molly. I wish there would be more, or even a continuing to this story.
This books is definitely one of my favorite reads so far. I couldn’t get enough of it and finished it all in one sitting. Something about the way this book was written really intrigued me. From the very first chapter I was hooked. I loved the mystery behind it, and the plot twist???? What !???! I’m not used to reading these type of books so I wasn’t expecting to love it but I did. Again this is definitely one of my top reads so far, Iwill definitely be checking out other books by this author since I just can’t get enough.
The psychiatrist and her patient is definitely my favorite type of trope. I really enjoyed reading The Unraveling by Vi Keeland. I will admit that it was a slow start but the twist at the end really made it worth it. What a gift for storytelling!!
3.5 stars! I saw a fellow book lover raving about this psychological thriller and immediately requested it. I'd never heard of this author before but she's apparently a popular romance novelist. This was her first thriller and it was definitely a page turner. Thanks so much to NetGalley and Atria Books for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review - pub day is 7/9/24!
The Unraveling is like watching a train wreck in slow motion. Maybe that’s not quite the right analogy since my mind keeps shouting things like “don’t do it!” and “what are you thinking?!” and just straight up “ahhhhh!” Keeland’s immersive writing had me hooked right from the start.
Meredith is such an engaging MC. I was immediately drawn into her perspective and while underneath I assumed she was completely unreliable, I couldn’t help both empathizing and rooting for her. Everyone else comes off as sinister in comparison, especially Gabriel, and I had a hard time figuring out who to trust. The foreboding atmosphere added to my mistrust and was extremely well-written.
This is the definition of an addictive thriller. It’s dark, emotional, twisty, depressing, and a complete whirlwind. A part of me had an inkling about the final twists, but it was much more than I imagined. Highly recommend!

I can’t believe this is Vi Keeland’s first thriller! She knocked it out of the park.
This book is so compulsively readable. It’s fast paced and keeps you guessing until the very last sentence.
I was so engrossed in this story I read it in less than 24 hours.
Vi Keeland did such an incredible job writing this novel that from page one you’re sucked right into the story.
I love the eerie undertones of this book and how you never quite know what or who to believe.
Keeland’s writing flowed so effortlessly and
she developed such intense and beautifully flawed characters. Characters that regardless of their faults you still want to root for them.
She really explores the different ways that people handle grief and trauma.

The Unraveling by Vi Keeland
Pub date: July 9, 2024
Have you ever read a book and just said to the main character almost non-stop, “Girl, don’t do it, it’s not worth it” and just one bad decision after the next occurs but you’re glued to the pages because you know this character is so much better than the choices they’re making? Ha! That’s exactly how I felt reading this!
Meredith is married to a successful hockey player but she’s successful, as well, as a psychiatrist in NYC. After a tragic loss upends her life, she begins to focus on a man connected to the loss. Her behavior borders a bit on unhinged and this leads her down a path that will put her in danger of losing everything, maybe even her own life.
As I said in the first paragraph, there are bad decisions made but the reasons and the tie-in were just a mind-blow of a twist that gave the premise a whole new meaning. I loved the red-herrings and the suspense, the moral dilemma and the thrilling twists.
I’ve not read anything by Vi Keeland prior but I’ll be checking out her backlist and looking forward to what she writes next!
Entertaining, thrilling, and hard to put down!
My thanks to @AtriaBooks for this gifted copy!
The perfect book I was looking for! I thought this was what a thriller should be! Kept my interest, had you wondering what was coming. I loved it!
I don't know what I was expecting, but it wasn't this and I loved it!
Meredith is a psychiatrist who finds herself treating a patient that she shouldn't be. As her obsession with this patient grows, she realizes that she isn't the only one exhibiting unhealthy behavior.
This book was a wild ride. It starts with the death of Merideth's husband in a tragic accident. The picture of the accident unfolds as the book goes along with so many twists and turns.
I went back and forth over whether I found Meredith to be a likeable character. It didn't deter from the book at all, but sometimes I found myself cheering her on, and other times I was horrified by her behavior and the decisions that she made.
I had never read this author before and heard it was her first thriller. I was blown away by that because it was so well written.
Overall, it was a great read and I highly recommend it.
"The Unraveling" follows psychiatrist Meredith McCall's quest for normalcy after a devastating loss. Her encounter with Gabriel Wright, tied to a tragic past, sparks a complex bond. Despite ethical concerns, Meredith engages in therapy with Gabriel, blurring boundaries. As mysteries unfold, she faces repercussions, exploring themes of obsession and moral dilemmas. Vi Keeland's psychological thriller captivates with its emotional depth and suspense. It's a testament to Keeland's storytelling prowess, offering a riveting exploration of human psychology. A sequel would be eagerly anticipated. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC.
Over time I’ve become increasingly choosey about thrillers, and The Unraveling didn’t hit the mark for me. The story is predictable and the writing felt stilted. Still looking for a good thriller to keep me wanting more.
I need ANSWERS ..This book has sp many twist and turns. I did NOT see any of this playing out. God it was good. So shocked its a Vi book nothing like her other books ..I turely enjoyed this book and I want more
I felt so bad for Meredith McCall after what her husband Connor Fitgerald did.. All the guilt she felt man ..Then that ending
Now Gabriel Wright I figured he knew her but all the twist .You weren't sure who was sane anymore
All that happened , The clues Unraveling piece by piece was perfect kept you guessing just when you thought one way then another sliver of truth
Thank you to Atria Books and NetGalley for the ARC of The Unraveling in exchange for an honest and independent review.
Holy cats! What an emotional and psychological roller coaster this one is! If you are a lover of the hit Netflix show "You," then you will absolutely love The Unraveling. (Funny story, "You" is actually referred to in this this book and the parallels could not be anymore stark!) Honestly, I don't want to give too much away regarding the plot of this one because every turn leaves you guessing and I honestly don't want to spoil even the littlest detail but here is a very abbreviated version of The Unraveling: Meredith McCall is a psychiatrist in New York, working on building her own practice, when her husband is tragically killed in a car accident that also takes the lives of two others (a mother and daughter walking nearby). Meredith quickly finds herself in a twisted game of cat and mouse when she suddenly runs into the husband/father of the victims that died at the hands of her husband's careless act. Meredith is beside herself to see that Gabriel appears to be genuinely happy, while she is barely making it through life from day to day. It is here that Meredith makes the decision to follow Gabriel to better understand how he has processed all of his grief and why she isn't she able to do the same. She's a psychologist after all! An unhealthy obsession with Gabriel's personal life sends her spiraling and before she knows it, she goes from being the hunter to the hunted. But who's the one now tracking her and where can she go for help? Who can she trust?
This is one of the best psychological thrillers I've read since the Silent Patient. There are twist and turns around every corner, complete with an ending that will leave chills up your spine. While a little slow going at first, I could not put the book down once I hit a third of the way in. I highly suggest picking this one up this summer as it hits selves July 9th!

The Unraveling releases July 9, 2024
Meredith is haunted by the death of her husband and the lives of a mother and daughter that were taken as a result of him driving under the influence.
When Meredith comes across the widowed husband months later, she is transfixed by his happy appearance and needs to know how he is able to be in this state of mind when she has barely been able to function and perform bare necessities such as eating.
What follows is a twisted game of cat and mouse between a therapist and her patients, layered with some unethical relationships and stalking.
I’ve read Keeland’s romance books before and really enjoyed them. I think she did a great job with her debut thriller, especially with such a banger of a last line! (Gabriel is such an underestimated character).
I can’t wait to see if Keeland does more in this genre.
cw: doctor x patient, breath play, stalking, mention of opioid addiction/abuse
I’ve been in such a reading slump lately and this helped me get out of it! This book keeps you guessing until the very end. Nice little combo of romance and thriller
Billed as a chilling, addictive, thriller, I just wasn't feeling this one. It starts when Meridith, a psychiatrist in NYC suffers the loss of her husband. She then starts following the man who has a connection to this loss. Then the man turns up in her office as a patient, and she finds herself crazy attracted to him.
First, Meridith drinks so much I don't know how she knows what's going on. Second, this is not that well written. And third, I figured out the twist with the patient not far along into the book, so I thought that was obvious. Her career begins to unravel as she cannot contain her attraction to Gabriel, despite what he knows about her husband. I found this part really implausible. She's not a likeable character so you don't feel drawn towards her and are not rooting for her, as she goes back to her apartment each night to drink away her fears and depression. I haven't read any of this author's work before but this was a predictable, run of the mill thriller, surely not worthy of all the four star reviews.
