Gosh, this book had so much potential. I was pretty hooked by the plot……and let down at every turn.
I did a lot of grimacing throughout the text. The least of which was in response to the female protagonist, who I could not STAND. Sooooo self-pitying. Enough already!
I wish I could give a better review here. I really do. Totally interesting premise but it just didn’t hit. I wish I had enjoyed the characters a bit more.
If you’re looking for a fast paced, psychological thriller that you’ll probably finish in a day, this one is for you.
Meredith is not only dealing with the death of her husband, but also with the fact that he killed two people. One day Meredith spots Gabriel, the man whose life was forever altered by her husband’s mistake. She decides to follow him and suddenly she realizes that she can’t stop and of course her actions lead her down a rabbit hole..
This was a fun thriller. But honestly, I think nothing shocks me about thrillers anymore. I’ve come to find most of them predictable, and this one was no exception. While I saw many of the twists coming, I still found it entertaining and actually finished it in one day. Definitely not my favorite thriller, but not my least favorite either!
This book was such a page turner. It really kept me on my toes till the end. I didn't know who to trust or who to believe. And that ending really sealed it for me as one of the best reads. I was instantly hooked from the beginning.
I have read several Vi Keeland romances so when I saw a thriller by her I knew I had to read it! I started after I put my kids to bed and literally didn’t put it down until I was finished.
As always, Vi provided readers with a well written and easy to follow storyline. Character development was fantastic and the back and forth timeline added to the storytelling. Some parts were slightly redundant but overall it was captivating and kept my attention throughout. I did expect there to be a slightly bigger “OMG” moment as the twists were a little predictable throughout but overall it didn’t take away from the story. The very last page left me wanting more!
i had to give this one a read because i have only ever read this author's romance books. i didn't think it was too bad! was it super thrillery? no. but i did enjoy the stalker aspect of the story. it was a little slow for me, but i would definitely give another of her thriller books a try.
The storyline was okay but unfortunately I didn't find it very gripping. The most exciting part of the whole book was the very last page.
2 stars!
I had high hopes from the description, but this ended up not being the best thriller book for me. I found the concept and characters to be interesting, but it was just too slow for my personal taste.
Thank you NetGalley and Atria Books for the ARC!
Woah! What a stunning story ! I was caught up in the narrative of such a well developed plot with such interesting characters. The ending threw me for a loop! I’m still thinking about it even two days later.
As the story progressed I started to hold some questioning thoughts about Meredith and some of her own thoughts and actions, but I realized that grief manifests itself in different ways to different people. I didn’t know what to make of Gabriel but in the end…wow!!
4.5 STARS
WHAT THE HECK DID I JUST READ!???? Holy freaking balls!! That was one intense ride and that ending 😱mind freaking blown!!!
My first book by this author and I really enjoyed it. It was a cannot put down type of book that really kept your turning the pages!!
A stalker situation but we’re given details as the book progresses so you’re really kept on your toes on what is happening. A great quick read!
The main character is quite an interesting person to view life through their eyes. She has suffered significant pain and loss in her young life, and you get to watch as she tries to claw her way back to "before". She is quite an imperfect character, which is usually my favorite to read.
But, the book is quite slow and lacks typical thriller vibes. If you're wanting more of a plot mystery with minor suspense, this is a good grab. There aren't a lot of plot twists or moments that make you go "OMG" but the author does a great job of putting you in uncomfortable moments that are fascinating.
Wow. That was so intense. I don't really have the words at this point for this story. Vi Keeland's books are usually sexy rom coms, but this was all about guilt, suspense and dealing with loss.
I loved how deep the characters were and all the layers to them that I'm still struggling with.
I'm definitely going to be thinking about this one for awhile
If you’re in the mood for a psychological rollercoaster that initially promises thrills but might leave you wanting at the finish line, then "The Unraveling by Vi Keeland" could be your next pick. Meredith, a successful but shaken psychiatrist in the bustling hive of New York, finds her world tilting as Gabriel, a mysterious new patient with ties to her personal tragedy, waltzes into her office—and her life.
At first, the sparks fly with an intriguing premise: a grieving Meredith puzzled by Gabriel’s seemingly unfazed demeanor. The story kicks off with a tense and twisty vibe, gripping you like a cheap thriller in a late-night cable marathon. But hold on to your popcorn because as the tale unfolds, it veers off into what might feel like an unwanted detour into "Fifty Shades" territory. Yes, there are steamy bits that might have you either raising your eyebrows or skimming pages, depending on your taste.
Our protagonist, Meredith, while initially compelling, starts to feel less like the sophisticated shrink she’s meant to be and more like a star in a daytime soap opera. Her professional judgment might have you shouting at the pages, and her inner turmoil often mirrors the angst of a lovelorn teenager rather than a seasoned psychiatrist.
And the twist? Let's just say it’s more of a gentle curve that you might see coming miles away, leaving that sought-after 'wow' factor still hiding in the bushes. Despite this, the book has its charms—snappy chapters and a breezy style that keeps things moving, even when the plot doesn’t.
In short, with 3 stars, if you’re looking for fun, if not earth-shattering, read to pass the summer days, Meredith’s oddly magnetic mishaps might just do the trick. But for those seeking depth and a hearty dose of professional competence in their protagonists, "The Unraveling by Vi Keeland" might just make you want to book your own therapy session.
This book is fantastic. A lot of ups and downs.
Meredith McCall is a New York psychiatrist drowning in grief after suffering a horrific loss. After almost two years her world still feels completely shattered and empty. She's been through too much, and her emotions are all over the place.
Gabriel Wright is a professor and it heart broken. He is seeking Merediths help.
THIS IS A MUST-READ NOVEL! YOU Go add it to your cart NOW! Then take the day off because this is a read it in one sitting. You will love it
That was a wild ride. Thank you Atria Books, NetGalley and Vi Keeland
I received this book as an ARC from Net galley. If you want a summer read, this is a book for you. This is a new direction Vi Keeland went and I’m loving it. I love a great stalker book and this one delivered. The twist and turns and that ending!! Vi is one of my favorite authors so her writing this type of book had me curious. Her writing style is incredible and I thought she did an amazing job writing this book that is out of her comfort zone. I’m usually not a thriller reader but this one I couldn’t put down!! Thank you net galley for this opportunity to read this book!!
This book grabbed me from beginning to end! The second pov was an interesting take that worked really well, also with having not one, but two messed up characters. Although it did grab my attention, it ultimately fell flat. This book was predictable, had many holes left unanswered, and felt so drug out in places. One thing that also stuck out to me, is the switching from present to past but after about 30% through the book, it just stuck to “Now” on every single chapter. By about 50%, I thought to myself “Okay girl, I get it. We’re in the present.” Another is that a huge part of the plot is that the main character, Meredith, is a psychiatrist and is having a dilemma whether to tell something a patient told her to the police. However, it’s literally a law where a psychiatrist can break confidentiality if someone committed a crime?? So, I didn’t understand this plot point??
I don't want to say the psychological thriller genre isn't for me, because I am a firm believer one can find a good book in any genre, but this specific book fell a bit short.
Surely the author had been watching or reading "You" (the tv series/book by Caroline Kepnes) right before they started writing, because the similarities were impossible to miss. In fact, "You" was even directly mentioned in the book, and I had to chuckle to myself when I saw this. So if you're a fan of that series/novel, this might be a good fit for you!
PROS: On a positive note, the book was fast-paced and easy to get through. There were no lulls; things moved quickly from start to finish.
CONS: Overall, I felt so disconnected from the characters. They lacked depth and I didn't really care what happened to any of them. The female main character couldn't make a good decision if her life depended on it. Also if you're like me and not really a fan of excessive adult scenes, there are several you will have to skip through.
Thanks as always to Netgalley and Vi Keeland/Atria Books for giving me the opportunity to broaden my horizons. It's much appreciated!
This is the best book I’ve read this year so far! Absolutely brilliant. I loved everything about it, the characters, the plot, the quick pace, the fantastic twists and turns…. That final chapter! I was not expecting that ending.
This is the first book I’ve read by Vi Keeland, I cannot wait to read more by this wonderful author. If her other books are anything like this one, I know I’ll love them.
I’ll 100% be recommending it this book to everyone I know. 5⭐️
Ohhhh I loved this book. Meredith lost her husband in an accident and it’s about what happens after. It focuses on grief, obsession and passion.
It’s full of twists and turns and the ending came out of nowhere! Also, VI Keeland is a fantastic writer and I was pulled in.
Highly recommend!
Thank you!
