I didn’t love this one. The characters were annoying most of the book and I felt frustrated in their choices. Just very odd. It wasn’t until the last couple chapters that I felt it picked up. And the ending had me saying WTF out loud.
Meredith McCall, a New York City psychiatrist reeling from a devastating loss, finds herself drawn into a dangerous obsession when she encounters Gabriel Wright—a man with a tragic connection to her past. As Meredith's life spirals out of control, she becomes increasingly entangled with Gabriel, unable to resist the pull of her unhealthy fixation.
While this isn't a love story, it's a gripping tale of psychological suspense that delves deep into the complexities of obsession and desire. Keeland's prose crackles with intensity, drawing readers into Meredith's tumultuous world and keeping them hooked until the final, explosive climax.

GENIUS!
I know why Vi Keeland had quickly risen the ranks of my favourite authors!
This book was so different to her others but so familiar! It’s one of the very few books this year that have truly excited me!
I’d say go blind into it. Let the story take you. I knew that this was not a typical love story but a thriller. She pulled it off brilliantly. This book kept me on my toes, it was so different to what I’ve expected. I absolutely loved it.
I read that some people talked about it being very graphic? I honestly did not notice any difference (to my usual smut). Be aware that this is not a cute love story but on the darker side. If that’s your cup of tea, you found your book!
The only thing that disturbed me was that I rediscovered my biggest pet peeve. The second person narration, speaking to someone else I. Your thoughts. You, you , you….. I really can’t stand that. Luckily it wasn’t too frequent, because I have dnf:ed in the past because of that. I am glad I did t, because this was a brilliant book (with a minor flaw)
⭐️Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for my advanced copy. All opinions are my own, I was under no obligation to review.
If you’re looking for stalker x stalker then you’ve found it! This book definitely gives “You” vibes. I stayed up way past my bed time just to finish this book. I loved how everything came together. This was a amazing read just the right amount of everything was put in this book.
Meredith’s husband is dead and she is spiraling into a string of bad decisions. She comes across Gabriel who is grieving as well and begins stalking him to figure out how he deals with his grief so well. The ending was a shocker that I didn’t see coming. A fast paced thriller full of twists.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC**
The Unraveling is a psychological thriller that had me guessing until the last page. Meredith is struggling to process the loss of her husband and copes with her grief with lots of wine, a little stalking, and getting entangled in an off limits relationship. As Meredith continues to make one bad decision after another and lie to those around her, she finds herself in a dangerous situation with no one to turn to for help.
Thank you NetGalley, Atria Books, and the author for access to this book in exchange for an honest review.
what a good mystery of who is stalking who. Loved that it showed the past and now. I did like the ending. I like that there were references to the TV show of YOU . Loved seeing her relationship with her husband and what happened to it over time. Loved meeting Rachel and Gabriel . I didn't know if she was going crazy or being stalked or even who was stalking who. Good ending and wow .
dark, twisty, seductive, addicting— Vi knocked this one out of the park.
I’m a huge fan of this author’s romance books, and her dabbling into the psychological thriller genre did not disappoint. This had just enough of a romantic side plot to keep my romance-loving self invested.
the pacing of this book was phenomenal and kept me guessing at every turn. & the end had my jaw on the floor, shook to the core. This is a must add to your TBR.
It's been several months since I've had a book that had me from page one!!
Meredith is kind of a mess. She's a therapist fresh off a medical board suspension - in therapy herself, a grieving widow wracked with guilt who feeds her trauma with too much wine. She's becomes obsessed with a man that is tied to the tragedy that took her husband , and it completely turns her world upside down. Suspense, sex, and quite the page turner, this was a very satisfying first time read from this author.
If I had to identify one slight negative - I did expect more from the ending. It was such a build-up and I was anticipated a bombshell at the end; but it didn't ruin the book for me. A solid 4 stars for The Unraveling.
What the hell just happened?!?! I can’t stop thinking about the end of this book nearly 2 weeks after finishing reading it!
The Unraveling by Vi Keeland is a romance/psychological thriller/mystery kind of book which isn’t my usual go-to as I tend to prefer just romance but after reading the books initial description I was instantly intrigued and needed to know more so I couldn’t wait to start reading this book.
The story is about psychiatrist Meredith McCall and a patient that she ends up treating in her practice that she has a connection with (it’s so hard to write a really good review and not give away any major spoilers 🙈😫)
I thought I could predict how the book was going to end though but boy how wrong was I!!! 😮🤯 The ending left me desperate to know if there will be another book (please say there will be! lol).
I would highly recommend reading The Unraveling though.
Unhinged in the best way possible.
This book will have you hooked from page one, and have you needing more. This psychological thriller was soso good. Obsession and stalking never been so *chefs kiss*
a 5 star read, i was in shock and awe many times throughout this novel.
a debut thriller you don’t want to miss, grab some coffee or a glass of wine and prepare to read this one all night long!
Psychiatrist Meredith McCall is grieving the loss of her husband. When she crosses paths with Gabriel, a man who has also suffered a terrible loss, she starts following him, trying to figure out how he has moved on when she's still stuck with her grief.
✨Thoughts✨
Wow, I'm completely speechless with this fascinating story. The ending has left me in such a state of shock and awe that my mind is a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions. It feels like forever since I last delved into a thriller, and Vi Keeland's novel is the perfect gateway back into this genre.
The journey we take alongside Meredith as she grapples with her grief is so vividly portrayed that her immense guilt and anxiety practically jump off the pages. The twists and turns in this novel are nothing short of brilliant, seducing the reader with its forbidden allure and keeping them constantly on their toes. The characters are interesting and somewhat unhinged. Just perfect!
Without a doubt, this thriller will have you turning page after page, desperate to uncover the secrets it holds. If you're a Vi Keeland fan, you won't want to miss this one!
Five stars plus for this psychological thriller, I was glued to every page devouring every word,
The plot is absolutely brilliant and certainly intriguing.
This is Vi Keeland’s debut psychological thriller which is exactly what it is!
The journey down paths and alleyways Meredith takes to find answers is rather scary as a professional psychiatrist she crosses many dividing lines which would put her job in jeopardy.
Gabriel Wright an English professor is Meredith’s obsession.
When Gabriel needs treatment and becomes a patient of Meredith’s everything becomes extremely intense and unpredictable.
I had to stop reading a few times to get a breath, that’s how amazing this story is!
Brilliant!!!
This is a 5 star review for me. Thank you to Atria, Vi Keeland and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advanced copy. I look forward to Ms. Keeland’s next release.
I love a good book about obsession! This was my first book by Vi Keeland and I really enjoyed the writing style. It was a fast-paced thriller that kept me turning the pages to see what happened next.
Wow. I’m a sucker for a psychological thriller and this was *chef’s kiss*. It was so unhinged in the best way.
A psychiatrist starts stalking the man whose wife and daughter were killed by her husband. Yep. Just as messed up as it sounds. And it’s lowkey smutty.
Meredith was a train wreck throughout the book and clearly unstable but the ending was the best part. I was so focused on the direction that the book took me that it actually really surprised me!
Thank you Netgalley and Atria books / Simon & Schuster for the arc!
Overall, I really enjoyed this fast-paced thriller. The middle to end fell a little flat for me in some unrealistic turn of events and unnecessary additions to the plot. However, I liked the references to You and the way she spoke about her husband. I also thought the shift in perspective for the epilogue was really well done.
Thanks NetGalley for the ARC!
I read this very quickly. The story was twisty, entertaining, and unpredictable. I loved it! I just wish the characters were more likable.
Are you in the mood for a psychological thriller that will have you turning the pages as fast as you can, and not quite sure what to expect at the end? If so, you must add The Unraveling to your TBR list. I had never read anything by Vi Keeland before, and it seems she usually writes romances, but I would say she has found her niche here, as I did not want to put this book down. It wasn't a thrill a minute, but it was fast paced, and the feeling of dread built steadily as everything unfolded. I wasn't sure what exactly I was dreading, but I enjoyed the ride to find out.
I don't want to spoil anything, so I will just say that the blurb tells you what you need to know going in: Meredith, a psychiatrist who has suffered a tragedy, sees Gabriel, the other party to the same tragedy, in a coffee shop. She can't understand how he could possibly be happy when she is simply existing, so she follows him, and becomes obsessed. Not long after this, he comes to her for therapy, not knowing who she is...and she pushes ethics aside and takes him on as a patient. There is so much more to this story that that, but again, I wouldn't want to ruin any surprises. Obsession is the theme throughout, in many different ways. Certain things I suspected, but others I did not see coming. 4.5 stars rounded up to 5 for this fun read.
A huge thank you to NetGalley and Atria for allowing me to read an ARC in exchange for my honest feedback.
I've read many romance books by Vi and liked them so when I saw she was coming out with a psychological thriller I couldn't wait to get my hands on it.
The Unraveling did not disappoint, I loved it from start to finish and devoured it in a day.
It's creepy, dangerous, spicy, forbidden, and unhinged.
The story follows Meredith, a psychiatrist and a recent widow who experienced a terrible and tragic loss. We follow her along as she navigates the loss and guilt she feels. Then enters Gabriel who is closely connected to the accident that took Meredith's husband and she can't seem to stop watching him wherever he goes.
Meredith starts on a journey of stalking, unprofessionalism, and troublesome behavior but what she doesn't know is someone else is also watching her close.
Some parts were predictable and others not so much. Keeland does a good job of giving just a tease of details to keep the distrust going. The last bit was explosive and that twisty ending left me reeling and more confused than ever! I have been thinking about it since I finished reading.
I highly recommend this explosive thriller and I hope Vi continues to write them!
Thank you NetGalley, Atria Books and Vi Keeland for the arc in exchange for an honest review.
I wasn't sure about this novel since the backlog of this author's work seems to be firmly planted in romance which is not my thing, but this one was definitely a thriller with a dark romance subplot and I did enjoy it very much, I found it predictable until the last 50 pages which displayed this author's craft with a twist I didn't see coming. I found it heavily influenced by You by Caroline Kepnes, one of my all time favorite books, and found surprising and enjoyable references to the former work included here. The last sentence of this novel is going to be why I remember it, and increased it from 3 to 4 stars. Not many thrillers are able to fool me so easily and I enjoyed the surprise.
The writing itself was a little pedestrian, and the dialogue was wonky and unpolished but overall this was a very readable and enjoyable thriller. If this author keeps writing books like these, I will keep reading them.
