So I give this 4.5 stars. I would have done 5 but I wasn’t a huge fan of the main character. She fell kinda flat to me And the end well you will just have to read for yourself!
This is definitely a book I will commend to someone who enjoys a good twist and turn.
But the story itself was so hard to put down. A psychiatrist who has obsessive tendencies who meets her match!! It doesn’t keep you guessing but it keeps you glued to the pages. It seems pretty straightforward but nothing is ever how it seems.
Definitely a good summer read.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC. I will definitely recommend this book.
I love Vi Keelands romance books, but I didn't know what to expect going into her debut thriller. It did not disappoint!
A psychiatrist lost her husband in a car accident when he was driving under the influence. The accident also took the lives of a woman and her daughter. The psychiatrists life starts to unravel. This book is full of twists, turns, suspense, and just when you think it's all tied up in a nice neat bow, another bombshell drops.
All right, I started this and was all in, but… while this was well written, I found it painfully anticlimactic, and it required more suspension of disbelief than I was capable of providing.
Ultimately, I’m rating this up to 3 stars, because although I wasn’t the right reader for this, it did keep me turning the pages.
Thank you to Atria/Emily Bestler Books and NetGalley for the DRC
okay okay not my usual book taste but i liked it! the premise was. interesting and the romance subplot was extremely compelling. i thought it was fairly well written and have heard nothing but good things about vi keeland. i may just have found a new author to get into
‘After experiencing a terrible loss, New York City psychiatrist Meredith McCall feels painfully adrift. When she crosses paths with a man with whom she has a tragic connection, she follows him, sparking an unhealthy obsession with Gabriel Wright. How is he doing so well while her life is in shambles?’
The Unraveling is chock full of obsession so fierce, heavy and palpable, I had to shake myself from time to time as a reminder that the infatuation was not my own.
A quick paced page-flipper that was both intense, twisty and enjoyable!
Thanks to NetGalley and Atria Books for this arc in exchange for an honest review!

FIVE IMMEDIATE STARS!!!
This was my first Vi Keeland book, I had never heard of her before this book, and my oh my...I need more thrillers from her immediately!
This was truly a psychological thriller - actual psychological and actually thrilling. This was a very slow burn until about 52% and then BAM it took me on a rollercoaster ride - one that had its total hooks into me and didn't let go, long after the final page was over.
Everyone was untrustworthy, not just a female MC...loved this! The ending?! Did we leave this open for a sequel? I would read it, no questions asked!
Thank you so much for this ARC!
WOW, this was an unexpected 5 star read. I was totally obsessed with this, reading whenever a free minute was available. So many twists, so many uncertainties. Who is the victim?
This was a TRUE psychological thriller. It doesn't get any better than the main character being a psychiatrist battling her own demons. The connection between Meredith and Gabriel was so dangerous with some really intense scenes. I loved that the "twists" were discovered with enough time for the reader to digest and understand. HOWEVER, there is one that you definitely will not see coming.
Please write more psychological thrillers, Vi Keeland!
Psychiatrist Meredith McCall experiences a tragedy that tips her world on its axis… but does that really excuse the behavior that follows?
I enjoyed the story but also had some issues with it - from the feedback I’ve read I am definitely in the minority with my opinion so take that into consideration as well. The slow pacing of the story didn’t bother me but what I struggled with was connecting with the main character. Even before the big tragedy that occurs I found myself disliking her choices. She’s a psychiatrist yet when her husband starts turning to drugs and alcohol her reaction is to bury her head in the sand and not address it? She also self-medicates with wine heavily throughout the book. For a supposedly intelligent woman, every decision she makes is rather idiotic. I understand that people don’t always act logically when they are grieving… but from the very beginning of this book I did not care for Meredith and that’s why I ended up just liking the book, not loving it. The idea for the story was great, the twist was unexpected for me (I had expected someone else to be involved the whole time and… nope) and overall I’m glad I read it and would read more by Vi Keeland.
Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for allowing me to read an early copy!
I PLOWED through this one! Impossible to put down, and the author does such a good job of keeping an eerie sense of distrust throughout - I found myself on the edge of seat, looking at so many characters with a bit of a skeptical gaze. The book itself is so good and the ending (like literally the last few pages) have such a wild twist! Would highly recommend for anyone looking for a slump-busting thriller.
Thank you @netgalley for the ARC of The Unraveling by Vi Keeland. Wow! This was a wild ride. It was so twisted and creepy. The characters were generally unlikable, but also tried to illicit compassion from the reader. They were all unreliable and you didn’t know who to trust. The question throughout the book was who is the stalker and who is being stalked. You don’t know and the characters don’t know as well. It was creepy made me uneasy through the whole book.
Meredith is mourning the death of her husband. He died in a car crash killing a mother and her daughter. She works as a therapist and is getting back to work when Gabriel walks into her office, the husband of the woman her husband killed. He doesn’t know that Meredith has been watching him. A tangled web of deceit begins when she lets him in as a patient.
When Meredith’s life seems to be falling apart, she finds herself obsessed with a man who is connected to her tragedy.
I have been a big fan of Vi Keeland’s romance writing. This is her first foray in the genre of psychological thriller and she did not disappoint. While I had a feeling where this was going, I was still surprised by the twists that kept coming right down to the very end.
I thank the publisher and netgalley the opportunity to preview this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
Hooked from the first chapter. The Unraveling had it all…stalkers, steam and twists. And wow the ending! Loved it
My very first Vi Keeland novel (solo written) and I chose something completely different by the author. This is her first psychological thriller novel and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
The Unraveling grabbed my attention almost immediately and held it throughout. I love that this narrative kept my mind working constantly - considering all the possibilities of what was happening between Meredith and Gabriel, and since I'm no 'Miss Marple', I kept getting proved wrong at almost every turn. The twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat and I found it very difficult to put my Kindle down when real life demanded it.
The ending is 👌 It's been a few hours since I finished this story and I honestly can't stop thinking about it.
I would highly recommend this novel to you to read.
4-4.5 stars.
That was interesting! I had been hearing so much about this book that I knew I had to read it! I love stalker/obsession themed stories and this one has quite a few layers of that! I enjoyed the back and forth with the past and present timeline as well as the main character being the therapist and being in therapy dynamic. I thought I knew where the story would end but I was wrong. That last page!! Wooof! I was caught offguard!

I've been a fan of Vi Keeland for years, what she just created is a masterpiece! The Unraveling is so unexpected. The thriller with so many twists and turns. I love Keelands romances but this is a new favorite!
I really enjoyed The Unraveling. It was a great change to what I have been reading recently, Meredith is a psychiatrist and has suffered painfully and feels lost, She crosses paths with Gabriel who she has a past connection with. She becomes obsessed and starts keeping close tabs on him, Gabriel becomes a patient and while Meredith should turn him away she feels a great need to help him. The ending is gripping!
Thank you to Netgalley for allowing me to read The Unraveling by Vi Keeland in exchange for an honest review.
Meredith McCall is a successful psychiatrist in New York City. She recently suffered a painful lost of someone very close to her. She is trying to navigate her life the best she can when she runs into a man who has a connection to her tragedy. Gabriel also has a reason to grieve however he seems to be happy but Meredith doesn't understand how he isn't suffering as much as she is.
Gabriel walked into her psychiatric office as a patient one day but doesn't seem to recognize her. The morals of this seem to be crossed but Meredith can't help but be interested in him. She gets in deeper than she ever thought was possible.
I wanted to like this book and I found the premise very interesting but I found the book very anti-climatic. The book was fine, the characters were fine, the twists were fine but it didn't have that wow factor. I was hooked in the beginning but was very disappointed in the end. I can't place my finger on what it was. Positives were that I did like the writing and the short chapters. I was very curious to find out how all this came together and read it in 24 hours.
3 stars
Wow
Wait. What just happened? What a thrilling exciting book. With each chapter I was thrown off until suddenly….BAM! Yes! It finally started coming together, when I least expected it. But then the last chapter surprised me again.
The author has given us a great read and the characters were fantastic. Meredith and Gabriel are both amazing, they had my head spinning and my heart skipping beats. I did kinda see some of it coming but that ending, on no, never saw it. Grab this one, you’ll love it!
A very clever, riveting, unusual novel that captured me immediately and I sped read the rest in a day. The plot was a bit convoluted but it revealed most of the mystery at the end. It became a bit of a bodice ripper as it progressed and I felt that was superfluous. A few weak storylines, especially about the insurance money, were not believable. The ending was creepy, insidious and ingenious.. and totally unexpected. All of the above reasons give it a rave!
This was my first time reading this author, and I’m already a big fan! The Unraveling was really entertaining, and while I found Meredith to not always be the most likable character, the story itself was so good! Lots of twist and turns and I felt like everyone was a suspect of something. I was totally invested in this book and flew through it in 2 days. The final chapter was excellent. Love a good cliffhanger!! This was very well written and the author didn’t leave any stones unturned. I would definitely recommend this book to other readers.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC
