I really really wanted to love this book. It came so highly recommended and effusively, and I read the whole thing so fast, just waiting to be wowed. And it never really happened. I was weirdly dissatisfied with the major plot twists in the story, I think because no one actually seemed innocent, so it wasn't a surprise when the secrets came out. I can't really say much else without putting spoilers in this review, but I was left wanting at the end of the story.

3.5 stars! I’ve been a fan of Vi Keeland’s for quite some time as she was a go to author for me when it came to the romance genre. I was shocked to see her name on the cover of this especially after reading the blurb. I must say that this was actually such a fun thriller to read. I thought the writing was great and very easy to follow. It reminded me of You by Caroline Kepnes in a way. There were some predictable twists but the ending I DID not see coming. Keeland managed to catch me off guard and I actually ran to Goodreads to see if I misinterpreted or THAT actually happened. I’ve been struggling with reading for quite some time so I really appreciate what a breeze it was to read. Welcome to the thriller genre Vi Keeland.

Fast paced psychological thriller. A psychiatrist develops an unhealthy obsession after a tragedy occurs in her personal life. One day while walking aimlessly through town as she does daily, Meredith spots the man whom she shares a tragic connection with and begins following him. As she starts habitually following this man he inexplicably walks into her office as a new patient. What Meredith doesn’t realize is she may also be the subject of someone else’s obsession. Dark twisty thriller, not to be missed.

Well that was a wild and fun ride! You know how every one in a while a book comes along that totally consumes you while you’re reading it? The kind that has you totally addicted and you basically don’t put it down until you’ve finished? That was exactly my reading experience with this one. It had me in a chokehold from the very beginning and it never let up for me until I finished it. The synopsis of this one is pretty vague and brief and that’s purposeful because you don’t really need to know more about this one before you start it. If it sounds at all good to you give it a try. Or if you like fast paced and intriguing reads that make you question everything try it. It’s so good, I had so much fun with it and I think if you enjoy domestic thrillers about obsession you will too.

Thank you NetGalley, Atria/Emily Bestler Books, and Vi Keeland for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review! I loved this book and found it addicting. It’s a mystery/thriller that follows Meredith McCall after a painful experience as she crosses paths with Gabriel Wright - who shares some of her pain. There’s a lot of questions in this one and I loved seeing how things played out. I highly recommend it! Fast-paced, entertaining, and unique.

4-4.25 STARS

Author Vi Keeland takes a detour from her tried-and-true romance genre to try her hand at something new, and she doesn’t disappoint! Delving into the realm of psychological thriller, she takes readers on one crazy roller coaster ride in this compelling story of obsession gone too far. It’s the story of Meredith and Gabriel, two people whose worlds collide on one very fateful night, and the disturbing, compulsive events that ultimately transpire. As the story slowly unravels, so does Meredith, who finds herself caught in a dangerous game of cat and mouse. However, as the story spiraled toward its unexpected, twisty ending, the main pivotal moment simply dangled out there--vague and obscure--making it less impactful for me as might have been intended. That said, “The Unraveling” still delivers one riveting, suspenseful ride from start to finish, so just hop aboard and enjoy this intense, emotionally-charged journey.

WOW, WOW, WOW- Holy plot twist!

If I could give this book 6 stars I would. Ms. Keeland had me on my toes from the first page and the suspense was non-stop. I literally read this entire book in one day because I NEEDED to know what happens. I was also SHOOK to my core when I realized this book is the author's first thriller book because she absolutely hit it out of the park.

As a reader of 200 books per year, it takes a lot to get my motors revving, but this book took me into third gear.

We start with Lauren, a grieving widow who is consumed by guilt. I appreciated the running dialogue she had with the deceased because it felt like we were inside her innermost thoughts. Her aimless wandering leads her to Gabrielle Wright, husband and father of her husband's drunk driving road fatality victims.

The catalyst of the story is Laurens's burning desire to understand how Gabrielle is so seemingly happy while she is constantly drowning in despair. The twists, turns, flips and overall rollercoaster of a ride are gripping.

The shocking truths that come to light will shake you to your core.

I don't want to give too much away except to say, don't think twice. just read it!

Thanks to NetGalley and Atria Books for this Advanced Reader’s Copy of The Unraveling by Vi Keeland due to be published July 9, 2024.
Meredith McCall is obsessed with Gabriel Wright because of something her husband did that made them cross paths with his family. When Gabriel comes into Meredith’s office as a patient, she crosses every boundary to treat him. Her life and career couldn’t get any worse – or could they?
My first impression was how inappropriate it would be to treat someone as a therapist when your family was involved with them – and not in a good way. Just because that person does not recognize you, I assume it would be unethical to say the least. I spent ¾ of the book wondering how a professional person could throw away their career.
Oh, my – it all comes together at the end of the book – what an ending.
Totally recommend this one!

This was a little slow, and not very twisty. Still, I enjoyed it. The characters were great, and I liked the connections between them. This was a pretty good balance between tense and smutty, which is all I want from my thrillers. I actually really dug the ending too. I've never read any of Vi Keeland's work before this, but this made me want to check out more of her books.

It's difficult to fathom that this is Vi Keeland's first thriller novel. I finished in one sitting and still can't stop thinking about the characters. This book kept me guessing until the very end, and then, <insert my face with jaw dropping to the ground> the twist at the end! Simply brilliant. One of the best books I've read in 2024.

I was so not prepared for this book. I was pleasantly surprised with the whole book. I didn't know where this story was going from one minute to the next. I just couldn't put it down and was bummed when I got to the end, I did not want this book to end. I was thrown for a lo0p with the epilogue, I was shocked and wasn't prepared for that little surprise. This is a book I will definitely be re-reading. Vi did an amazing job with this suspenseful thriller.

This book had my eyes glued to the pages. An extremely tragic, incredibly intriguing, hot as an inferno story.
Meredith has lost her one true love. Trying to move on from him has been extremely difficult. So many reminders of him and her life together.
Gabriel's life has tragically changed the night everything went down. Losing loved ones is never easy. Moving on after is sometimes worse.
The circumstances and chances of these two running into each other in Manhattan are slim to none. But it happens none the less. Drawing you deeper into the tangled web they've weaved.
This story has a unique twist that I think most readers will enjoy. Super edgy and well thought out in all aspects. You will truly love this spinechilling story.
5stars. Grab this book and don't put it down!

Seeing early rave reviews made me want to read this debut thriller from bestselling romance author Vi Keeland.

Meredith is a New York psychiatrist struggling to rebuild her life following the sudden death of her husband in this anxious story of obsession and stalking.

A chunk of the story is told through psychiatric sessions, Meredith counselling clients, Meredith being counselled, I quite like this structure. Meredith’s unhealthy obsession with a client grows, she knows she’s crossing the line into stalking but can’t stop herself.

I found it fairly compelling, but wanted just a little bit more of something, plot or anxiety, I’m not sure. Hard not to make comparisons to the best in the genre, ‘You’ by Caroline Kepnes (which is referenced), ‘If I Can’t Have You’ and ‘Blood Orange’, if you enjoyed those then I think you enjoy this.

I love Vi Keelands romance novels, she’s one of my favorite smut author so I was super stoked to read her first thriller!

It starts out really slow, and had a dual storyline. It starts off in the present with flashbacks of the past. To give you more details about what went wrong in Meredith’s life to make her compelled to do what she did.

It did a bit of bouncing back and forth, only eluding to what *might have happened.

It wasn’t until about 3/4 of the way through did it really pick up speed and get to the juicy details of all the things that happened, is happening and what all the characters been through to get them to this point in time. The present.

I think there could have been more “thriller” aspects and a bit less monologue but overall, it was a good read. And there were a few twists thrown in there

Thank you NetGalley for an ARC and opportunity to review this book.

Our FMC Meredith a psychiatrist in the great city of New York, has just been through a major life tragedy. Her life has completely spun out of control. She's having quite a hard time of it and often finds herself wandering aimlessly through the city. To clear her head, to people watch, to just do something other than sit in her apartment alone with her thoughts.

One day while in a coffee shop she stumbles across Gabriel Wright, who she shares this tragedy with. Except, he looks to be doing just fine, laughing and going on about life like his hasn't flipped upside down. And then, she has to know. Is he really happy? Is he faking it? How can he go about as if nothing has happened? And so she starts to follow him...

Not long after her own therapist guides her to keeping a better, healthier routine and to leave the following/stalking behind her. Gabriel Wright walks into her own practice for an appointment. Shocked, but also intrigued. She knows it's ethically and morally wrong... but she just can't turn him away...

It's not often that a thriller leaves me speechless. I hate to say it, but these days it's the truth. This story left me with my mouth hanging open and I had to sit and literally say WTF for a few mins to myself and actually let my brain catch up to the last twist that Keeland delivered.

My mind was so set on one avenue the author took me down that I didn't even see it coming while I was reading it. I honestly looked to my phone and thought- who can I call or text to talk to about this. Then I realized that no one I know has read it yet. 😩😭

This book was fantastic! It was engaging and it draws you in, you just want to settle in and rip through the pages and find out everything you possibly can about these characters. They're fascinating and damaged, slightly unhinged. There's secrets galore that you uncover, slowly and one by one.

The story is seductive in a forbidden way, sexy, dark and alluring. Secretive and thrilling.

Keeland is a masterful author and this is a spectacular debut thriller! Demanding a sequel! Please write more thrillers Vi, we need more edge of your seat, gripping thrill ride stories!

A huge thanks to NetGalley, Atria Books, and Vi Keeland for the complementary digital copy in exchange for my honest review! 🌺💕

The Unraveling by Vi Keeland is an excellent book. The book is not one of VI’s romance novels. This story takes you on an incredible journey through loss love, grief, mental health struggles and finding one’s self. The book has some surprising twist and turns that makes putting the book down quit difficult.

I finished this book a week ago, it’s taken me this long to finally get over my book hangover and give my review.

WOW! I just, my gosh, I am speechless, this book was beyond amazing. I wasn’t sure how I would feel about the story, Phychological thrillers aren’t usually my thing, but this book has opened my eyes, I need to find more of this trope to read.

Vi Keeland’s storytelling genius was, I had to travel for work recently, and on any downtime I had, I pulled out my iPad and devoured this book. This was an incredible chilling and mind bending ride, that will keep you on the edge of your seat and wanting more. Meredith, trying to get her life back after an awful tragedy, comes across Gabriel, who also suffered the same terrible tragedy in his past, for whatever reason she cannot deduce, he is going through life seemingly just fine. She takes it upon herself to follow him every day to see how he makes life seem so easy, remember, stalking is never a good thing. You may not like what you see.

She finally is able to return to work, and low and behold, Gabriel walks through her door looking for a Psychiatrist, and he becomes her new patient. Lines are crossed and the toss up between what is morally right and wrong is the biggest hurdle to overcome. Lot’s of twists and turns, but the end, well you just have to read it for yourself.

The Unraveling is an intense, mind bending, extremely emotional, mystery with unexpected twists you won’t see coming.

I started this book in the morning and finished before 1pm I could not put it down!! I’ve been a long time reader of Vi Keeland and I was very intrigued when I saw she was dipping her toe into the world of thrillers.

Meredith is a psychiatrist whose license has been revoked for a year due to an accident her husband was involved in. She’s heartbroken, angry, and depressed. Her life has been completely flipped upside down, and she spends her days walking across the city of New York, trying to find some semblance of normal.

One day on her walk, she sees the man she shares a terrible fate with. The other family involved in the accident. She remembers his name and the sight of him breaking down when doctors delivered horrific news, but now he is smiling and happy. How? How can he be ok when she is still in such a terrible place? How can he smile and act like everything wasn’t ripped away from him?

Finally, her license is reinstated and she’s able to practice psychiatry. But what can Meredith do when her first new patient after reopening her office is the man she shares a tragic history with??? She knows she should turn Gabriel away and send him to a different doctor, but guilt mixed with some level of obsession, has her risking everything in the hopes of helping him.

This book had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. It will have your heart racing, your mind reeling, and questioning your moral compass. And the ending… nothing prepared me for the ending.

Thank you NetGalley, Vi Keeland, and Atria Books for allowing me to read an early copy of this book for a honest review.
