This book was absolutely insane and I'm here for it. My heart hurt for everything these characters have been through and the absolutely twisted decisions that they made just had my jaw on the floor.
This was absurd and enjoyable. It was propulsive - I couldn’t stop reading but also deeply hated all of the characters besides the secretary, who was a gem.
Unraveling is right. Whew.
The Unraveling starts out with a FMC who’s already a bit off the wall, and she only gets more out of touch with reality in her obsessive thoughts and behavior from there. It definitely kept me on my toes, but it also felt incredibly difficult to her relate to her, which kept me from enjoying the story as much as I might have otherwise. Still a quick, tense, thrilling beach read.
Thank you Vi Keeland, Atria Books, and NetGalley for providing this ARC for review consideration. All opinions expressed are my own.
After reading this, I searched to see if Keeland had written any more books. After seeing her extensive backlist, a few scenes made more sense! She's a romance writer. I will definitely pick up her books if she writes more in THIS (thriller) genre. This was a very good read. I didn't want to put it down. (4.25/5)
’m always intrigued by a book that involves a therapist. This one really delivered !
Synopsis:
Meredith Mcall had developed an unhealthy obsession with one of her clients. They have a tragic connection from the past. She knows it, but does he?
Gabriel appears to be doing fine from afar and this perplexes her. When he walks into her office after a chance encounter she can’t seem to turn him away. In fact she can think of little else. Her obsession seems as delusional as some of her most unhinged clients. Will she continue this dangerous game and risk her career?
My thoughts:
This was a compulsive thriller! I’ve had therapists that have crossed the line, most recently a marriage therapist so I can definitely see how something like this could happen. I particularly liked the twists at the end-very unexpected!
The less you know going into this book, the better! The Unraveling by Vi Keeland is her debut thriller, which tells the story of a dangerous game of cat and mouse. I found some of the plot predictable, but as an avid thriller reader, I still enjoyed the psychological thriller aspects and how well-written this was for a debut. The fast pace, short chapters, and suspense kept me intrigued, and it’s easy to read in one sitting.
If you like the book or TV series You, this will be one you want to pick up. It has some detailed spice, so keep that in mind!
Thank you to NetGalley and Atria/Emily Bestler Books for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
This one was so dang FUN! I was captivated and just had to keep reading. Every time I put it down I wanted to pick it right back up.
When I requested for this book I thought it was another smut fest of the fantastic Vi Keeland. It is not BUT boy oh boy this book was FIRE. It was a riveting, addictive page-turner that pushed me out of my comfort zone. I highly recommend this book
An odd thriller that I had a hard time getting on board with or taking seriously. No one in the book has any sense of boundaries or ethics, which I guess is the whole point.
I wouldn't really describe this as twisty since nothing really shocked me or blew my mind. It was all just too preposterous with no real depth. Between Meredith or Gabriel, I can't decide who comes across as more ridiculous.
I don't really get the hoo-ha or glowing reviews. Overall, it's a fast and easy popcorn thriller if you just want some light entertainment, but don't expect more than that.
I read a lot of romance but somehow never have read Vi Keeland’s books, even if they have been on my TBR list for years.
So when I heard she wrote a thriller, I thought why not start with the genre I prefer the most? And it was a wild ride!
I enjoyed it so so so much! The characters, the plot, and the twists are all well-made and well-written.
And it all felt logical and reasonable, even at the very beginning I was kinda skeptical about the MC’s behavior. But the more I got into the story, the more I understood the feelings she had and the motive of her actions.
The ending made me first upset, and then after the last twist I started to double-guess everything I just read.
4,5 stars for me. Definitely will read other Vi Keeland books and highly recommend “The Unraveling”.
Thank you NetGalley and Atria Books for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed the “You” vibes from this one and the spice! However, the main character did multiple things that I found incredibly stupid which ended up bringing the rating down for me. I liked reading it but it might not be a book I recommend.
Vi Keeland’s The Unraveling offers an intriguing and emotional journey, blending romance with personal growth in a story that kept me turning the pages. The novel centers on a complex and well-developed heroine, who is grappling with life’s unexpected twists, while also finding herself drawn into a complicated and intense romance.
Keeland’s writing shines when it comes to creating raw, authentic chemistry between the lead characters. Their connection is palpable, and the emotional push and pull kept me invested in their relationship. I appreciated how both characters were given the space to grow individually, which made their romance feel more earned and realistic. The dialogue was sharp, often funny, and the emotional moments really hit hard.
However, at times, the pacing felt uneven. While the buildup of tension was strong, certain parts of the story dragged a bit, and I found myself wanting the plot to move forward more quickly. Some of the conflict also felt a bit forced, which occasionally pulled me out of the otherwise engaging narrative.
That said, The Unraveling is a compelling read with a great balance of heart and heat. Vi Keeland excels at creating characters you want to root for, and despite a few pacing issues, the novel is a satisfying and heartfelt story about love, life, and second chances.
This was the first book I read by Vi Keeland, and I'll probably read more from her. The Unraveling is about a woman's slow descent of terrible choices. Meredith is a psychiatrist who suffered a loss and blames herself for it. She's depressed, drinking, and then one day sees Gabriel, who was also a victim of that terrible night. But unlike her, Gabriel is happy and she cannot figure out how so naturally, she starts following him. When her therapist encourages her to stop and create her own schedule that doesn't involve following Gabriel, she gets back to work and then a new patient walks into her office: Gabriel. Too intrigued to end the professional relationship, Gabriel and Meredith's lives become entangled.
Overall, a good thriller. Some details were missing that would have helped the story along, but an engaging read all around.
Always love a Vi Keeland romance so wasn't sure about a psychological thriller from her, but she sure did deliver. Meredith is a psychiatrist who has suffered a terrible loss. She has a tragic connection to Gabriel who she runs into and he appears to be happy. She cannot figure out how this could be which starts an obsession with him, stalking him all the time.
Gabriel shows up in her office as a patient, which crosses all kinds of ethical bounds. She can't turn him away becoming further entangled. This book has all kinds of surprises and twists right up to the very end. Great read!

The Unraveling by Vi Keeland
Meredith McCall is lost! She lost her family, future plans and career in a night and don’t know what to do with herself anymore. After her mandatory counselling meeting one day, she crosses path with
Gabriel Wright who she shares her tragic day with, who actually appears to be okay in life. Unable to process how he has moved, she starts following him by accident and later becomes her unhealthy coping mechanism.
When she thinks she has to change her ways and get her life on track, fate has new plans. Gabriel is now her patient and she doesn’t know how to avoid it without having uncomfortable conversations.
Suddenly her life is unravelling. She is becoming someone else. She doesn’t know who is plying her or if she is going crazy!
The author is know for romance novels so obviously there was romance in the book. But the mystery part also was written well. It’s a slow burn, like slow thoughtful chess moves that each brings one player down with every move. It did resolve easier in the end but it was a good psychological game! If you are picking this book, go in blind. Don’t try to read blurb or reviews with storyline.
This is my first time reading anything by Vi Keeland. I know that she usually writes romance novels, but The Unraveling is a psychological thriller, and I think Keeland really did the genre justice with this one! The Unraveling is so easy to get immersed into and totally bingeable. Just when I thought I knew exactly what was happening, I was hit with an unexpected turn of events.
Read this if you liked Verity, The Golden Couple, The Housemaid, and Never Lie.

The Unraveling is out now!
What in the world did I just read?
This was one heck of a wild, gripping, chilling ride that keeps you on the edge of your seat, delivering sucker punches at the most unexpected moments!
We follow aspiring psychiatrist Meredith McCall, whose license has been revoked for a year. She's seeking therapy to heal from her own grief, filled with guilt, shame, and self-deprecation. A year ago, she was happily married to a rising hockey star, even planning to start a family. But now, she's lonely, fixated on a charismatic English professor named Gabriel Wright—the same man whose life she and her husband shattered. But how? What tragic events led to the ruin of this man's life? And why is Meredith obsessively following him?
Overall, this book is highly entertaining, incredibly addictive, and boasts a fast-paced narrative that I thoroughly enjoyed!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Atria Books for my ARC in exchange for my review.
The pacing was so good on this book and I loved the character development in this book! The ending was 100% worth the read!
Vi Keelands detour from her normal romance books to psychological thriller was a hit. This is a twisy interesting story. You never knew who was doing the stalking and what was really going on. Even at the very end she drops a bombshell. Highly recommend.
