This was such a great story! Very unique and kept me on the edge of my seat. Will definitely read more from this author. I already love her rom com books!
I loved this pacey and suspenseful read. It was so interesting to read about a stalker who is also a therapist, and I love love loved the cat-and-mouse game between her and her patient/stalkee. I can't say much without giving anything away, but the plot is an artfully done web of connections and designs, and I was so invested.
Grateful to Netgalley and the publisher for the arc! Definitely recommend for lovers of suspenseful stories with psychologist or stalker angles.
This book was CRAZY! I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. Definitely kept me guessing until the end! Highly recommend!!
I’ve been a longtime fan of Vi Keeland. I haven’t read anything by her recently, but I used to read her books a lot. I was excited to try out her first thriller. It was.. interesting lol It didn’t immediately hook me like other thrillers tend to do. I was curious enough to keep reading, but it didn’t have my attention right away. I got more interested when Meredith started stalking Gabriel and then of course becoming his therapist. I thought she was nuts for doing this. I felt like the romance portion was a little forced. I wasn’t sure why they liked each other beyond physical attraction. Maybe that’s all it was. I got super into the story once the Verizon store revelation happens. Pretty sure I finished the book after that. Once I finished the book, I feel like I still had some questions. Not exactly plot holes, but I definitely wanted more explanations on certain parts. Or even confirmation about what we are led to believe happened. Overall, I enjoyed my first thriller by Vi Keeland! It didn’t immediately hook me, but it had me in the middle and right up to the end. I did feel like I wanted more explanation, but it didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the story. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!
Lord almighty this book was so addicting!
I was pulled immediately into the world Vi Keeland set out for me, and kept on edge for the entire thing. I loved the dark, twisty themes. I loved the cat and mouse chase. I loved that you didn't even really know who was good and who was bad until the very end.
Did I see the ending coming? Maybe a little bit. But not necessarily in the way it happened. And regardless, I was invested - so I was held in thrall until the very last page. There were moments that made me downright uncomfortable. There were moments that caused me to hold my breath not knowing what was coming. It was compulsively readable and I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Meredith McCall’s life in unraveling. A year after a terrible accident changed her life forever, she’s struggle to cope, to find a new normal, to be a healthy functioning adult. Just when she should be turning a corner, rebuilding her NYC psychiatry practice, Gabriel Wright shows up as a patient - Gabriel Wright whose life was dramatically changed by the same accident. They’re already intertwined but does he know that? And how will Meredith the guilt, self punishment and forbidden attraction?
Vi Keeland will keep readers guessing until the very last sentence and you won’t be disappointed by this twisty, sexy psychological thriller.
The Unraveling by Vi Keeland is the first thriller by this author and I was captivated from start to finish. Meredith is lost and has no idea where her life is headed after a devastating lost. She is a psychiatrist, however, her life is falling apart, so how can she help anyone else. Then Gabriel, a man who shares a tragedy with her, walks back into her life, but does he know who she is? She is falling apart and yet he seems to be doing fine. She becomes fixated with this idea. Is he truly happy or faking it.
This story takes us on a wild ride with twists and turns keeping me turning the pages. Meredith knows she is not making good choices, but she cannot help herself. How will it end? Well it was unexpected and kept me drawn to this story from start to finish.
Happy reading!
What a great psychological thriller. This book was very fast past and kept you reading until the very end. I was quite surprised by the ending as well. I do like the main character, Meredith and was very interested to watch her move through the ethical and moral issues in the story. This was my first book by Vi Keeland, but it will not be my last. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a good thriller.
Thank you NetGalley and Atriabooks for this ARC.
The Unraveling
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This book had me hooked from the very beginning. This book is about psychiatrist Meredith, who tragically loses her husband. She becomes obsessed with a man who is affected by the same tragedy. This was definitely a bingeable psychological thriller! There were some shocking twists that I didn’t see coming…..and that jaw dropping ending!!!
This was such a fun read and discussion with @thrillersbythebookclub.mke
Thank you @netgalley and @atriabooks for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
3.5⭐️s. Overall I enjoyed this book, especially the ending. I do love a good thriller that gives you a gut punch for the finale.
A psychiatrist loses her husband to an auto accident where he was impaired and two people were killed. A young mother and her daughter.
The story becomes about a bunch of different character around this accident. It's a fast paced who dunnit. I kept flipping back and forth. Great story, suspense and spice!
4.5/5!
If you’re looking for an addictive and propulsive thriller read, this is the book for you!
Keeland starts the book off with alternating chapters between then and now, which keeps the reader on edge as they try to figure out what happened in Meredith’s past that has led to where she is in present day. I enjoyed that Keeland didn’t drag this out throughout the entirely of the book, which allowed for the chaos of present day to really shine.
This is one that’s hard to talk about in detail because I don’t want to spoil any twists or reveals for readers. I think it’s one of those stories to go into blind and just sit back for the ride. And DM me when you get to the last chapter because WHAT!!
Loved it!
Meredith is a psychiatrist working in New York. She was living the charmed life until a series of events left her…unraveling!
When a new client walks into her office she realizes she knows him! And there is positively no way she should be treating him. This particular client could cost her everything!
But Meredith just can't say no!
Let's pretend I read the whole book and liked it. Or we won't pretend and I got to 46% and then read the last two chapters.
I'm obviously in the minority here as I don't get the high reviews I mean nothing happened apart from Meridith making idiotic choices. I felt there to be no depth to the characters. They are so very flat.
I like a good thriller/mystery and I've read many and as this is the author's first book in this genre it was okay.
I had time to kill today and usually when the book is good I use that time. Here with this book nada!
VK is a hit and miss author for me. Will I ever learn?
Dr. Meredith McCall has been struggling since suffering a traumatic loss. Determined to get her business back on track after serving a suspension of her psychiatrist license, she unexpectedly crosses paths with a man connected to her tragedy. How can he appear so happy and recovered, when she is still devastated? Despite knowing better, she begins to follow him. And then, he walks into her office as a new patient! She knows its against all ethical guidelines, but it’s more than just a coincidence, it’s a sign that she’s the one to help him. As things get even more complicated, life for Meredith begins to totally “unravel”.
As I sit to write this review, I realize there’s just so much to unpack in this story! Is Meredith a likeable or unlikable character? Frustrating in her decisions to say the least, but so guilt ridden that I sympathized with her and could believe her choices. Her isolation turned to obsession. And then the story takes a turn. The whole book has an unsettling atmosphere that will keep you on edge! It’s not a book you’ll easily put down!
Vi Keeland is a new to me author. I understand she’s written romance in the past but this is her thriller debut! And if this is any indication, I think we’ll be seeing a lot more of her in the thriller genre!
This is a psychological thriller as I love it! Plenty of twists and turns that kept me reading until the very end.
I gurss I am in the minority here but I liked Meredith, she is so flawed that even herprofessional ethics can't save her! She is a truely unhinged protagonist.
The ending was satisfying!!
Thabks #NetGalley #Atria/Emily Bestler Books for thus ARC
Read this immediately if you love psychological thrillers! I never rate books 5⭐️ but this was a 5. That ending my mind 🤯🤯 I had suspicions of the ending but it turned a little and I wasn’t expecting that part at all.
This book really wasn’t for me but I definitely could recommend this book to a lot of people because i think it had mass appeal!
4.5 stars rounded up to 5
I tend to enjoy stories featuring therapists, probably because I’m very familiar with unpredictability of that setting & work. The Unraveling was very true to its title - it truly felt like watching a person unravel.
Meredith McCall is riddled with grief, shame and guilt brought on by a recent personal loss. She becomes fixated on a man whose life is connected to hers in a strange way. And we all know that obsessions make for thrilling reads!
If you are comfortable with or even enjoy unlikeable characters or characters doing unlikable things, then you’ll find this story as entertaining as I did. Meredith was a train wreck but I understood her motivations and her isolation. This was such a fun, engaging read and I breezed through it! Perfect for summer or vacation reading!
A huge thank you to Atria for my ARC in exchange for an honest review!
And this just happens to be one of @aardvark July books so you have an opportunity to snag it at a great price!
Vi Keeland is a new author for me as I believe she is primarily a romance author. This is her first thriller and the synopsis had me intrigued. The Unraveling follows NYC Psychiatrist Meredith, who recognizes a new client as someone with ties to a traumatic incident involving her pro hockey player husband. Meredith takes him on as a client and also stalks him. The Cat and Mouse games that follow had me reading into the middle of the night to find out what happens. There are many unexpected and satisfying twists in this novel. If you like Liv Constantine, you will like this author's thriller debut. Thank you to the publisher and #netgalley for providing me with an advance readers copy in exchange for an honest review.
The Unraveling by Vi Keeland is about a woman who is struggling with recently losing her husband and the fallout from that event. When she sees the husband of the woman and child that were killed in the same accident, she is amazed to see him happy. She begins to follow him, feeling a strange connection. When she goes back to her practice, she is amazed to find he is one of her new therapy patients. Even though she knows she shouldn’t work with him, she cannot deny the connection she feels and continues to see him. As their connection deepens, how will she unravel herself from the tangled web she wove?
I could not put this book down! I thought the characters were really well written. The plot was detailed and kept the reader guessing. I liked how it went back and forth from before the accident and after to give the reader the full picture. While I thought I had predicted the ending, I was still surprised at the end and didn’t see it coming. I would definitely recommend this book!
