The story in this fell flat, and lacked some form of depth. It follows the two characters on the cover. The ending of the manga added a surprise element, so it is very possible the series could be redeemed with a later volume.

I went into Let’s Do It Already! holding my breath. Normally, I approach new books with an open mind but something about the synopsis made me nervous. It describes the male character as “straightlaced” and says he cannot engage in any “sexual relations” until he is 18. Was this just a story of a girl trying to get a boy to break his rules and sleep with her? Something about that premise made me uncomfortable. Nevertheless, I persisted and I am so glad I did.

Let’s Do It Already!, by Aki Kusaka and published by Viz, is the story of two students from completely different worlds dating. Yuri Hasegawa is a reformed delinquent who could not be more excited to start dating Keiichiro Katsuragi. The two meet on their commute to their schools, which happen to be across the street from each other.

Once they start dating and Yuri leans in for a kiss, Keiichiro blocks the kiss. Yuri learns that he comes from a super-elite family and cannot have any sexual relations before he is 18. Yuri is distraught to learn this as she wants nothing more than physical affection from her love! However, she resolves that their love is worth waiting for. This is all in chapter one.

The premise at this point almost feels like a red herring. Yuri does want physical affection from Keiichiro. The main overarching theme is that they are limited in how they operate in their relationship due to Keiichiro’s family. But, what follows the first chapter and carries the story is how those limitations allow them to explore how they can be in a relationship.

Something we see often in the story is Yuri venting to her friends about the situation with Keiichiro. Because Keiichiro's family situation is unique, the advice her friends give her doesn't work for Yuri. Yuri has to navigate her feelings of wanting a normal relationship but wanting to be with Keiichiro, despite the limitations.

Keiichiro on the other hand knows his family path and does not want to stray away from his path. He realizes that to be with Yuri he has to get creative. He starts doing new things and going outside of his strict life in little but important ways.

It's still early, but if Let's Do It Already continues this theme of "our relationship is how we make it," I am in. What I especially find endearing is how realistic it is to teen romance. Yuri and Keiichiro are both 16, which naturally is a time of feelings, wanting physical affection, and comparing your love life to others. It's on par with the worries of teenage love. Let's Do It Already! acknowledges that without shaming the characters and instead, finds ways for them to work those feelings out and create a relationship on their terms.

A super cute, engaging, funny, and sincere manga that takes a slightly over the top look at first loves. I really was cheering for Keiichi and Yuri the entire time I was reading! The portrayal for two high school students trying to navigate a relationship with various family expectations and pressures is well-portrayed, even if it is a little over the top. I am so excited for the next installment!!!

VIZ Media provided an early galley for review.

The combination of raging teen hormones and the barrier of forbidden fruit makes for a very tense romance that will instantly pull in young adult readers and those older adults who are still young at heart. The twist here is interesting in that it is the young man who is the one saying "we must wait".

Kusaka's artwork and story carry all those classic manga elements that make this illustrated storytelling so popular. I particularly liked the various shots that include detailed architecture and layouts in the background. Everything is very cinematic.

I am hoping more of the secondary characters are developed further as the series progresses. I would like to see another female character that is a counterpoint to Yuri's ways, someone more reserved to offer an alternate viewpoint to the situation. And, of course, the last few pages of this volume clearly are setting up a potential for rivalry in the Yuri-Keiichiro dynamic. That is always welcome.

Cute story about a high school couple who are restricted by his political family's very strict expectations of propriety. Yuri just wants to hold hands, kiss, and do other couple-y things, but Keiichiro is committed to following the rules and seems to enjoy structure. Yuri must decide if she loves him enough to wait until he is old enough to give her the affection she wants.

Okay, I couldn't resist requesting this one after reading the description, and it certainly delivered. I may have made a "squee" noise once or twice while reading. It's pretty obvious where this is going, yet I'm still compelled to read more of it.

This digital ARC was obtainable via NetGalley for an honest review.

Dang! Just let the kids date normally already! lol This was cute but drove me crazy with all of the rules they had to follow. I am interested to see what will happen in vol 2!

Thanks Netgalley for my e-ARC!

This is the cutest romance manga I’ve read in so long!! I love that the guy remains steadfast in his values and the girl is trying to get him to succumb to peer pressure but ends up falling harder for him!!

5/5 Stars!!

This was actually really cute and sweet! I enjoyed it a lot. The characters have a lot of sweet chemistry and I like how the dynamic is different from other romance mangas.

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for a review.

Overall there were definitely plenty of bits I found amusing. But for me, even though we got a brief flashback or two in the story, I couldn’t figure out any real reasons why they liked each other. It just felt like there was no foundation. That being said, I guess that’s probably typical for young teenage relationships, so maybe I’m just being picky! I did still really enjoy the humor and art style though.

Keiichiro is very aware of his family's reputation and the standard he must set to uphold their honor - his girlfriend Yuri tempts him to break the rules.

This is a sweetly awkward manga about yearning, love and expectations. The description and title make it sound more mature that than the first volume is. It will be interesting to see where it goes.

I've found in my experience with reading shoujo, a lot of the plot advancement has to do with the "will they or won't they confess" theme, and the growing of feelings of the main leads for one another. In Let's Do It Already, Yuri and Keiichiro subvert this trend about three pages into the manga, where they already establish their feelings for one another and become a couple. The catch? Because of Keiichiro's social status and family lineage, he's held to a very strict set of rules, making being a "normal" couple very difficult. Despite their circumstances, I found the interactions between these two to be super sweet and lighthearted. The first volume does a great job at setting the stage for the couple, as well as giving a sweet insight to the beginning of their romantic feelings for one another. This was a super refreshing read for the genre, lighthearted and sweet. If you are a fan of Kaguya-sama this would definitely pique your interest.

Thank you to Netgalley and VIZ Media for sending me an ARC in exchange for an honest review!

I loved this! Thanks NetGalley and Viz Media for the ARC. I've been impatiently waiting to get my hands on this since I saw a tweet about this title months ago. It did indeed live up to the hype and I can't wait to read the next ones.

We have a rule oriented guy who falls for the "idgaf about what anyone says" type of girl and it works so well because they're both so innocent. Minor spoiler but I lost it when he got his first phone and got addicted and wrote a whole essay about the dangers of cellphones. If you like whacky storylines and characters, this is for you.

My first impression of this manga was that it was going to be a little adult - but that was only based off the title, but I do understand that it's meant to be eye catching. I almost didn't want to give it a chance, but I'm glad I did because the actual content is very innocent. The interactions between the characters was really cute, and I am curious how it will change as their relationship progresses. I'm trying to think of another manga or graphic novel series with the same premise - and I'm drawing a blank. I have seen other comments about it being similar to Kaguya-sama: Love is War, but I don't agree. While the vibe might be slightly similar, the whole idea behind that story is they don't want to tell each other their feelings - the main characters in Let's Do It Already! are a couple and have shared their feelings, but due to circumstances they can't be as close as they want to be. The very end of the volume another character is introduced and I see some drama headed for the main characters. Overall, good first volume and it made me want to read more of the series.

Thanks to #NetGalley for an advance e-copy of #LetsDoItAlreadyVol1 by Aki Kusaka to read and review.

this is a devilish cute story about a girl who’s always dreamed of a lovey dovey relationship with her first boyfriend… and ends up a guy restricted to his family’s tradition as an heir to a policial dynasty! she’s willing to be patient and date him and he’s over the moon for her…. it’s really a funny little story that definitely caught my intrigue within the first few pages. the art style is gorgeous!!! i think yuri is so cute and keiichi is adorable .. love their chemistry and can’t wait for what’s next

Way more wholesome than the title and cover make it out to be. Loved the characters and definitely excited to see where they go from here.
