I am a fan of Mary Higgins Clark and am happy to see that even in her death her stories and style of writing have continued. Thank you Alafair Burke for continuing her awesome series for us to enjoy. This is book 8 in this series, I have read one other but this book can be read easily without reading any others. I love the clean, slow, easy style of Mary Higgins Clark's books. You get a real chance to get to know and love the characters.
This book has Laurie Moran the producer of "Under Suspicion" a TV true crime show that has had great success with solving cold cases or finding the true murderer. This case is 10 years old and has driven a family apart. It is time to heal the past and get down to the truth. So Laurie is called to see if she would help.
I want to say what a privilege to have gotten to read this book. Thank you, NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for an ARC copy. This is my honest review.
Gosh I should have been reading these authors sooner! I’ve read them separately and loved them but never together. Thank you NetGalley! I sped right through this book, it had me hooked from the first page. It’s part of a series, but not a must to read the others first. But I will be reading them all now! This was such a great story about twin brothers who supposedly murdered their parents. A true crime show wants to find the truth. A lot of dark family secrets. A must read!
Well written characters and a great story. Excellent mystery that makes it hard to put the book down. Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book
This story is about a cold case with twins who are suspected of killing their parents with each brother blaming the other of the crime. If you like mysteries where you are guessing who is guilty throughout the book you’ll like this story. It was slow moving in the beginning and it had many characters to follow, which in turn made it a little difficult to initially get into. There was also some dialogue that was a little unlike how people would talk in real life, but the anticipation of finding out who was guilty was enough to look over these minor details.
Many thanks to @NetGalley and @Simonbooks #simonbooks for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
It Had to Be You continues the legacy of Mary Higgins Clark’s deft storytelling through the very capable hands of author Alafair Burke. Opening this book felt like returning home to an author who I grew up reading, and the Under Suspicion series has been a delight for this longtime Mary Higgins Clark fan.
In IHTBY, producer Laurie Moran is investigating a decade old murder that pitted two brothers against each other. At seeming odds with her boss and host, everything hinges on the developments in this case. As new facts emerge and old ones are examined, will she and her team finally get to the bottom of what happened? Or will a killer continue to get away with murder?
This was a one-handed read for me that provided some interesting twists and turns. And, while I did predict most of the aspects of the ending, I greatly enjoyed the ride.
Thank you to Simon & Schuster and NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
I just finished this book and I was so sorry it was over. I guess I missed some of the earlier stories but I will go back to read them all. Laurie had a great interview with the guys accused of the murder and I have to saw it kept me in the dark till the end. All the characters I thought could be the one turned out to not even be close. You will not be able to put this book down.
5⭐️s! This book had my attention from the beginning! I read it in one day! Mary Higgins Clark definitely knows how to tell a murder mystery. Young adult twin men are the original suspects for the murders of their parents. Then a podcaster, takes the unsolved murders on ten years later. The suspense kept building! Make sure you put this on your TBR list.
Thank you to Net Galley and Simon and Schuster for an advanced copy to read and review.
The story involves a cold case of twin boys that were suspected of killing their parents on the night of their graduation party ten years earlier. There was not enough evidence at the time to prove whether one or the other was responsible or maybe both of them had done the deed. Their little sister wants the truth and asks the tv crew of Under Suspicion to find out what really happened. This story has corrupt a police officer, crazy friends and a lot of grudge holding people. “It Had to Be You” thrives on unexpected revelations and plot twists that kept me engaged until the final reveal! Fans will enjoy this book. You do NOT want to miss reading this book when it hits the shelves. You will not be disappointed.
Thank you NetGalley and Simon & Suchuster for an ARC copy in return for an honest review.
I absolutely love this series! This is part of the Under Suspicion Series BUT can definitely be a standalone book.
Laurie Moran has a top crime solving tv show that gets her in a lot of scary situations but she doesn't let her stop her from digging deep to get these "cold cases" solved. I just love all of the characters. I like that each recurring character just fits. Its not that cookie cutter / cozy mystery feel.
This story is about forgiveness and redemption. Identical twins Ethan and Simon accuse each other of murdering their parents, it takes Laurie and her team to find out which twin actually did it OR if someone else was there the night their parents were murdered. Their little sister Frankie is desperate to find out what happen that night. She has been estranged from her brothers and as she has gotten older she is not sure who to trust. Once she reaches out to Laurie, she is in for the long haul.
This story has several twists and turns! It kept me guessing until the end! I would love more from this series. If I could give it 10 stars I would!!!
The book has solid characters who continue to grow throughout the series and enough clues to move the story along but not give away the ending,
I am a huge fan of Mary Higgins Clark and Alafair Burke and the Laurie Moran series. I've read every book in this series, and It Had to Be You did not disappoint. It has the same great characters with an intriguing plot and excellent writing. Tim is getting so grown up, and it's nice to see him evolve. I love the banter between Grace and Jerry and the team. At first, I wasn't sure about Ryan, but his storyline was explained.
The characters were well-written, intriguing, and believable. The plot made sense and kept me guessing until the end. A good crime mystery with a good resolution, false clues, and heightened tension.
An overall fun read and a great way to escape life for the few hours to get through the book.
I look forward to the next adventures in Laurie's and Alex's lives.

Mary Higgins Clark lives on thanks to Alastair Burke with the latest install, ent of the Under Suspicion series. Laurie Moran and her team work to prove or disprove that one or both of a set of twin sons murdered their parents. Simon and Ethan Harrington, dubbed the “Deadly Duo” by the -press, each accused the other of the murder which occurred at the twin’s graduation party. They haven’t spoken to each other in the 10 years following the murder and have harbored deep anger towards each other. Since the police could not determine which brother was responsible , neither was ever charged. However, the pall of being under suspicion all those years has taken a toll on their families, most of all, their little sister, Frankie, who at 22, has come into her share of the inheritance and is desperately seeking to find answers as to what happened that night 10 years ago. It is Frankie who contacts Laurie and starts the ball rolling to reopen the investigation.
The usual suspects
are here and accounted for, but this time around, Alex, Ramon, Leo, and even Timmy (now Tim) are mostly in the far background, which is too bad. Still Grace, Jerry, Ryan, and Brett are front and center to delve into the mystery surrounding the murders. Even though you know everything will come out in the end, the journey is always fun and Alafair Burke continues the legacy of Mary Higgins Clark in a manner MHC would be pleased with. I couldn’t wait to read this, and once I started, I was reluctant to put it down. “It Had to be You” should be a must have for every lover of the Under Suspicion series. Thank you to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for the advanced copy in return for an unbiased review.
do not be intimidated by the fact that this is book 8 in a series! it was so easy to pick up and understand. this was a good, solid mystery and i fully enjoyed it. the characters were interesting and so was the storyline (that's what made me jump in to book 8!). i was expecting a bit more suspense, but am absolutely planning on checking out other books in this series!
Another exceptionally well written story from Mary Higgins Clark and Alafair Burke. This story is the next installment of the Under Suspicion series and it does not disappoint. This story gets you in right from the start and keeps you reeled in throughout the whole story. The characters are well written and relatable and the storyline is intriguing without being overly complicated.
The topic for this next installment of the Under Suspicion show is about a well to-do family that has a lot of secret. When the parents are murdered, one of their twin son's is said to be the killer but no one could ever determine which one was the killer and the evidence didn't add up enough for their arrest. The sister, Frankie, is set to finally find out who killed their parents and bring her family back together again. This story has corrupt police officer, crazy friends and a lot of grudge holding people.
You do NOT want to miss reading this book when it hits the shelves. You will not be disappointed.
Thank you NetGalley and Simon & Suchuster for an ARC copy in return for an honest review.
The combination of Mary Higgins Clark and Alafair Burke makes fantastic reading for me every time.

Creepy suspense. 5 ⭐
The two identical brothers seemed perfect in every way—handsome, intelligent, popular—until a shocking summer night when one brother killed his parents in cold blood while the other brother had an iron-clad alibi. But which twin was where during the murders? And is it possible the two of them planned the perfect crime together? Years later, the twins are long estranged, each of them claiming to be convinced that the other is responsible for the death of their parents. Married now with children of their own, they may finally be ready to clear one name at the expense of the other and turn to Laurie Moran and her team to reinvestigate their parents’ murder. But as the Under Suspicion crew gets closer to the truth, the danger that was assumed to be left in the past finds its way into the present.
Inhaled it in a single sitting.
Thank you to NetGalley and Simon Schuster for giving me an advance copy.
Television producer Laurie Moran investigates the unsolved murder of a beloved couple celebrating the college graduations of their successful twin sons! The twins seemed perfect in every way, popular, handsome, successful, intelligence, until one summer night at their party one of the twins killed their parents! Each blame the other and they become estranged! Each vowing the other did it! Their younger sister turns to Laurie for help and try to put back what's left of her family and find the true killer! What a great read! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one! The storyline was very interesting and kept me glued to my kindle! I highly recommend reading this book as it was well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
Thank you NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for the copy of It Had To Be You by Mary Higgins Clark; Alafair Burke. This can be read as a standalone book even though it’s part of a series, but I would have probably been more engaged in Laurie and Ryan’s relationship if I had read the previous books. It did start off slowly as we got caught up on the characters. The story was really good though and I suspected a couple of people, changed my mind, and changed it back again. If you’re reading this series already you'll love this book. If you‘re new to it, I would probably start with the earlier books first. I might have to read the other books in the series now because I enjoyed this one.

This is another book in the “Under Suspicion” series. This story covers a cold case with two twin brothers accused of killing their parents. Each one thinks the other did the crime. Once the murder is picked up by the tv show, things happen fast. I love these stories. Ms. Burke has shown she is a great writer to carry on these stories from Mary.
Thank you to @netgalley for the ARC
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
My thanks to both NetGalley and the publisher Simon & Schuster for an advance copy of this entry in one of the Queen of Suspense's most popular series, about a murder and the dual aspect of the killers and their story.
My family was never much for traditions, but one we have been doing for as long as I have been in bookstores is that every Mother's day I will get my mother a gift that something she doesn't know she needs or wants, something to snack on, and the latest Mary Higgins Clark book to read. Thanks to Alafair Burke the legacy of the Queen of Suspense continues with this entry in the Under Suspicion series featuring journalist/producer Laurie Moran. It Had To Be You is a story of muder, lies and two people accusing the other of crimes, though both wear the same face.
Laurie Moran is under pressure at work. A co-worker might be scheming for her position, her boss might be losing his trust in her, and her work is starting to sufferer. Laurie decides that maybe a cold case might bring back the impetus Laurie needs to get back in the game. The case chosen, is a muder of a husband and wife on the night that their songs graduated college. What was supposed to be a happy time turns ugly, and the sons are suspected of the crime. The problem, Ethan and Simon are twins, and while one can be proven to be home, one can be proven to be out. As both accuse each other, no real suspect can be determined, and the police do their best by stopping the investigation, though the public maligns them all, including their sister Frankie who begs Laurie to determine what happened to her family. Ethan and Simon blame each other and after ten years are extremely estranged. As Laurie begins to look into things, strange things start happening and a cold case suddenly gets very hot.
One reads these stories not only for the mysteries, but for the character and the cast that surround them. Laurie and her team are fun, along with the people who are giving her problems at work. The idea of twins doing crime is not a new one, but the case is smart, makes sense and as an interesting payoff. There are a few red herrings, and a few suspensions of belief, but that is to be expected. The plotting is good, as is the narrative. Reading this one is in the hands of pros, as the story starts to move and move, speeding like a runaway train to it's finally gotcha moment, before laying everything out cleanly and clearly. A fun little mystery, carefully crafted with characters one wants to come back to read more about.
Fans will enjoy this book, and this book serves as a good jumping on spot for new readers. One doesn't have to have read the earlier books, but one should as they just as good. I know my Mom will be very happy on Mother's Day this year with this story.
