Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. Laurie and the team are investigating the murder of a married couple who returned home after their twins sons party. The twins have not spoken to one another after that night. This book kept me guessing until the last page. An excellent book.

This is such a good book! Mary Higgins Clark was one of my favorite authors (RIP) and I have read so many of her books. This book is part of the really terrific Under Suspicion/Laurie Moran series, but is easy to read as a stand-alone novel. Laurie, true-crime podcast producer, is looking at a cold case in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, a double murder from ten years ago. There are familiar and very likable characters and I am so happy to read this book. Thanks to Alafair Burke! Recommended!

I've read all of Mary Higgins Clark and Alafair Burke's collaborations. Always a good read. This time I predicted the killer. Doesn't happen often, but I knew before the end. Still happy I read it and look forward to more.

When my family first set out on a trip to California my Grandmother asked if I was ready, did I have everything? While I thought I did, apparently I was unprepared. She slipped a paperback copy of Mary Higgins Clark While My Pretty One Sleeps in my hand and the obsession began.
This book is yet another Laurie book that I tend to enjoy. I was so happy when I received an email from the publisher group asking me to read this book. While I was an avid follower of crime tv and this book definitely clicked with me as a spin on the famous Mendes Brothers, it was different all in its own.
I couldn’t put this book down, I ignored chores and was very much looking forward to see if I had unwrapped the mystery of who was the real murderer. While I had figured out what I believed to be true in an amazing twist, it was only part of the mystery.

A quick read, part of a series but fine to read as a stand alone. Estranged twins, both accused of murdering their parents are part of the investigation into the cold case for the tv show. It took me awhile to get investigated in the story but I did towards the middle and wanted to see how it got resolved between all the potential suspects.

As usual, Mary Higgins Clark and Alafair Burke knock it out of the park. It was lovely to see some favorite characters as they continue their show. The story always flows with these characters and this one was no different. I finished it in one sitting and am ready for the next one.

Mary Higgins Clark was one of my mother’s favorite authors. Even though both my mother and Clark have passed away, I still rush to read anything associated with the author’s name. I guess I do it to keep up the tradition. I have to admit, though, I do enjoy her mysteries, benign though they may be.

This is the eighth in the Under Suspicion series and I have read all of them. The series centers on Laurie Moran, producer of a true crime television show that tries to solve cold cases. She is surrounded by a cast of supportive characters both at work and at home.

Laurie is contacted by a young woman who would like the show’s help in solving the murder of her parents years ago. Her identical twin brothers were under suspicion for the deaths but not charged and the local police really never looked beyond those two suspects. Now estranged, the brothers agree to participate in the show out of love for their sister and perhaps in hopes of finding out which one of them is guilty. Of course, all is not as it seems and there are twists to the story that Laurie helps uncover.

This is a typical MHC book; light, quick, easy reading and I couldn’t put it down. It is perfect for curling up on a rainy day or saving for a beach vacation. The story is solid; some of the repeating characters are a bit “too perfect”, but what is so wrong with a little bit of saccharin right now?

Thanks to @NetGalley and @simonbooks #SimonBooks for the DRC.

It Had to Be You by Mary Higgins Clark and Alafair Burke is the latest installment of the Under Suspicion series. Under pressure from Brett and concern that Ryan is trying to take over her show, producer Laurie Moran needs to come up with a great idea. Laurie and her team work to get Ethan and Simon, known as the Deadly Duo, and their families to agree to participating in her show's next special. Accused of working together to kill their parents 10 years before, Ethan and Simon suspect each other have become estranged. Their younger sister Frankie is desparate to find out the truth, even if that truth means one or both of her brothers were guilty of killing their parents.

This was the best installment of the Under Suspicion series yet and I cannot wait to find out what is next for Laurie, her family and the show.

Thank you to Simon & Schuster and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC.

Another great read from Mary Higgins Clark and Alafair Burke! It Had To Be You is the next book in the Under Suspicion/ Laurie Moran series. Laurie needs a hit new special soon and chases down a cold case involving the murder of a husband and wife whose twin teen sons are suspects. Never having enough evidence to charge either teen, both became under suspicion by the court of public opinion and each other for years. Wanting to know the truth about her parents murder and hopefully exonerate her brothers, Laurie receives a call from Frankie, the twins’ sister. Will investigating the cold case cast even more shadows on their family or will they finally know the truth about what happened that fateful night?

It Had To Be You had me hooked from page one. A suspenseful thriller that had me guessing the entire way through with a surprise plot twist ending! Look out for a quick mention of another famous crime series!

Thanks to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for this Advanced Reader’s Copy of It Had to Be You by Mary Higgins Clark and Alafair Burke due to be published April 16, 2024.
Twin brothers Ethan and Simon were celebrating their college graduation when the unthinkable happened – someone murdered their parents. Was it one of the twins; if so, which one? Ten years later, Laurie Moran and her investigating team want to find out if either twin is guilty or it was a totally different person. Who will be the guilty one?
I love both authors and have read several by both as well as several of the “Under Suspicion” books so I was excited to get this one – it lived up to the hype.
I could not put this book down to see who was responsible for the deaths – Laurie and her team have a way of finding things out that the police can’t. It was truly a “page turner” with a twist at the end that I didn’t see coming!
Can’t wait for the next Under Suspicion book!

Reading It Had To Be You is like reclining in an easy chair with your feet up and your pipe and slippers - in other words, it is comfortable. If you have read prior novels in this series as I have, it is akin to visiting old friends - Laurie and her family, her friends and her co-workers and staff at the TV program Under Suspicion. This novel centers around a double murder and the dynamics of several families and business dealings as partners of a successful law firm over a ten year period. The story is interesting and several red herrings make it difficult for the reader to predict who the culprit will be. My sole criticism is some of the unnecessary “cuteness “ used in the writing - such as “criss- cross applesauce,” “yes indeedy” and words such as “doodad.”
I thank NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for the opportunity to read and review this novel prior to publication and look forward to the next installment.

Excellent and quick read from the master of suspense! This is loosely based on the Menendez Twins and does a great job of using that case as inspiration for this novel. Really enjoyed!

As a life long fan of any Mary Higgins Clark book, I was excited to be introduced to Alafair Burke through the series “Under Suspicion”. I’ve read all seven books in this series and had resigned myself to not getting any new novels once Mary Higgins Clark had died. I was so excited when I found out we were getting this eighth book, “It Had to Be You,” and this immediately went to the top of my to-read list. While I highly recommend you read all the books in the series to really form connections to the main characters, each of these books focuses on solving a new mystery so they can be read as standalone. “It Had to Be You” thrives on unexpected revelations and plot twists that kept me engaged until the final reveal! I initially believed I had cracked the case and knew who had committed the murders of Frankie, Ethan and Simon’s parents but found myself questioning my assumptions as I read more. I could not put the novel down and while I was sad when it ended, I’m happy that I was able to join the world of Laurie Moran one more time. I have an immense appreciation for the work by Mary Higgins Clark and Alafair Burke. Their storytelling prowess and knack for weaving intricate plots have made me a devoted fan of their work.

Thank you to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

For the last 10 years identical twins have been known as the Deadly Duo. People suspect one of the twins murdered their parents possibly with the help of the other twin. Now a podcast is trying to look into the case to find out the truth, whatever the consequences. Will the truth come out and clear the twins or are they guilty. This was a good mystery with a twist at the end. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.

Thank you so much Simon and Schuster, NetGalley, Mary Higgins Clark and Alafair Burke for the wonderful honor of being asked to read this book in exchange for an honest review. I feel honored simply because Mary Higgins Clark is one of my all time favorite authors and she has been an inspiration for me so I was doubly grateful to be able to share my thoughts on this newest book of her Under Suspicion series. As with any of her books, the characters definitely make the story truly unique. The story involves a cold case of twin boys that were suspected of killing their parents on the night of their graduation party ten years earlier. However, there was not enough evidence at the time to prove whether one or the other was responsible or maybe both of them had done the deed. Flash forward to present day and their little sister wants the truth and asks the tv crew of Under Suspicion to find out what really happened. She may not like the answers she gets though. Not everyone in her life is as innocent as they have appeared to be and when the truth comes out will come she survive to see another day? You will have to read it to find out! I couldn’t stop reading once I started and I absolutely loved this book🥰definitely a 5 star read for me!!!
