Fatal Intrusion
By Jeffery Deaver & Isabella Maldonado
Release date: 06 Aug 2024

This novel turned out to be a long drawn out some type of romantic cozy narrative with too many characters disguised as a
thriller/suspense/crime/drama/police procedural.

After an attack on her younger sister, Carmen Sanchez gets caught up in a jurisdictional battle.
So this know-it-all Homeland Security agent teams up with a notorious security computer expert to help solve a series of murders and an online conspiracy.

Overall, a collection of almost interesting pieces that did not result in a riveting or gripping grand scheme.

If Fatal Intrusion is any indication, Sanchez & Heron will be a scintillating series. This was truly a dazzling debut. I guess that's not a surprise given the terrific team behind this tale. This writing duo lives up to the hype. Great characters. Great villains. Great plot. And, as someone who is a longtime fan of Deaver, it had the terrific twists and turns I've come to expect in a book from him. The authors give Sanchez and Heron a nice backstory too. There's never a dull moment in their storytelling. This is a book which will be a contender for the "Best of 2024" lists. Yes, it's that good. Thank you to Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley for the advance reading copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

An action-packed high-octane thrill ride of a novel that grips you from the first pages and does not let go until the frantic and twisty resolution. Sanchez and Heron easily stand beside these authors' other memorable lead characters like Lincoln Rhyme and Daniela Vega. Well researched and credibly plotted. I'm looking forward to the next installment in this 'sure to be a hit' series.

Modern, complicated and clever, this book introduces a duo which matches Carol Jordan and Tony Hill (Val McDermid) in terms of appeal and chemistry. How the authors made their interactions leap off the pages the way they did is impressive beyond even the twisty, turny plot which leads you first down one track and then rapidly down another. I loved the detail of the technological analysis and investigatory processes as much as I enjoyed getting the perspective of the killers who thought they were staying one step ahead of the law. Just fantastic.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book.

Carmen is an agent for homeland security. When her sister is targeted by a serial killer, Carmen calls in Jake Heron computer hacker to help with the case. The details lead to other cases and all over the country.

I can’t describe the plot line of this book without giving anything away, but boy this was exciting. I loved reading g the highly detailed descriptions of the hacking, and of the law abiding. The characters were real and full of life. It was fast paced, going from twist to turning the blink of an eye. I really enjoyed this and I’m gutted I’ve finished it. I hope the next installment is out soon!

I've reached the point where I will read anything Isabella Maldonado writes, so I was so excited to see the start of a new series with Jeffery Deaver -- and it did not disappoint!

Carmen Sanchez is a member of the little known investigative unit at Department of Homeland Security. She's a solid and smart law enforcement agent who gets caught in a jurisdictional battle when her younger sister, Selina, is the victim of an attempted murder. Thanks to the skills she was taught by her older sister she survives and gives an excellent description of the perp, even managing to get away with his burner phone. But in order to utilize the burner in her ongoing investigation Carmen will have to call someone she does not like and that does not like her -- notorious security and computer expert Jake Heron. The two fight their way on to the case and are reluctant partners, connecting Selina's attack to a series of other murders and an online conspiracy that brings back dark memories for them both.

This unlikely duo are smart and work great together, despite their differing opinions on the best way to get things done. Another fantastic crime drama/police procedural with lots of great action -- the pieces came together so well at the end and left a big juicy hook for the next book too. Excited to see future adventures with these two!

Fun read overall, but the book lost me about 2/3rds of the way through - too long, too many characters, too much detail. I don't want to get into writing spoilers out, but I guess overall it felt like a bunch of interesting bits of story, that didn't add up to a particularly compelling bigger picture.

Jeffrey Deaver knows how to craft a thrill, and the prose in this book shows that clarity and suspense building. From the get-go, it’s a twisting and enjoyable narrative.

What a duo - Deaver and Maldonado - a masterpiece.

The authors of Fatal Intrusion have written a story of a female agent who seems to play by the rules. However, when her sister is attacked, the protagonist Carmen she steps out of her comfort zone. In trouble, she seeks the help of Professor Jake Heron.

Together, they race against time to stop more killings.

I can tell you that the novel has all of the ingredients to keep you captivated and entertained throughout the entire novel leaving you at the end with the thought that you want more.

I hope they collaborate again in the future!

Excellent novel - one I highly recommend.

As a wave of murders grips Southern California, an unlikely pair must untangle the mysterious patterns of an elusive killer!!
Carmen Sanchez is a tough as nails Homeland security agent, who always plays by the rules! But when her sister is attacked, and it seems connected to a string of murders, she realizes she might have to bend the rules a bit! She enlists a private security expert, professor Jake Heron who definitely doesn't play by the rules! They have a bit of a troubled past but he owes her a favor! The two team up, all they have to go on is a man with a distinctive tattoo and a creepy fascination with spiders! This case turns into a crazy chase of a serial killer that does some different and gruesome murders! As they race to catch him they realise that things could be deeper than just a serial killer! This book was definitely a good read! I would recommend reading this book as it was well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
