Paige Walsh shockingly witnesses her boss’s murder. His name was Donald Lessing, a federal prosecutor who was doing his best to keep an arms dealer in prison. This not only places Paige’s life in danger, but also that of her son Kenny as well as his therapy dog Aslan. Deputy US Marshal Lucas “Caveman” Cavendish has been assigned to get Paige and Kenny to a safe house until they can be placed in the Witness Protection Program. A never-ending nightmare has begun for all of them.

This book was an absolute rollercoaster of danger and action, but it also had a strong faith system that really added depth to the story. The characters were so well-developed, and Aslan made me want a dog of my own! Kenny idolized Lucas from the beginning, his “Cowboy”, and his instant trust in him was so heartwarming. Meanwhile, Paige knew that Lucas was just doing his job to protect them, and he knew it too. But as they spent more time together, a warm feeling started to grow between them. This touching story was an easy read, one that I enjoyed from beginning to end.

Many thanks to Love Inspired Suspense and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

Shielding the Innocent Target is written by Terri Reed. Shielding the Innocent Target is the final book in the author’s U.S. Marshal series. Despite Lucas being introduced in Forced to Hide. This book can be read as a stand alone.

This book will draw you in within the first few pages. Paige Walsh witnesses her boss's murder. Deputy US Marshal Lucas Cavendish to bring her and her son to safety. There is a problem, the killer seems to know their every move. Lucas and Paige are set on a race for their lives. The author does a great job in bringing God to the forefront. You will see the characters praying for God's intervention while dodging and running.

The author has created some realistic characters. The action and suspense in this story does not stop. I read this in one sitting.

I enjoyed this book from the beginning to the end. There were lots of twists and turns that kept me guessing clear to the end. Lots of fast paced action. And of course the attraction between Paige and Lucas throughout the story. I've always enjoyed reading books by Teri Reed and this one did not disappoint.

After Paige witnesses her bosses murder and an attempt at her own life now she's on the run with her son under the protection of Deputy US Marshal Lucas. Now the case she and her boss was working on is in jeopardy as a person behind it might be set loose and with her testimony and possible evidence to put the person behind bars it's clear that person doesn't want that information out.

I really enjoyed this fast-paced read. This book really kept me on my toes and I enjoyed watching following along as these two were on the run with many close calls happening. Then the fact that the son has epilepsy made things all the more tense because the stress of it all can trigger her son epilepsy. I just really enjoyed this book and had a hard time putting it down if you're looking for a quick mysteries suspense novel to read I would suggest you check this one out. Kind of perfect for a poolside read if you ask me.

After witnessing the murder of her boss, Paige Walsh finds herself and her son the target of a murderer, and under the protection of Deputy Marshall Lucas Cavendish, as they race against time to stay alive.

A fast paced adventure, with great characters and a gripping plot. Kenny is a great kid, and I loved how he and Lucas bond while they are on the run. Getting caught up in witnessing a murder is the last thing Paige expected, she does a great job of putting one foot in front of the other in the face of all the what ifs. I liked how she and Lucas worked together to keep Kenny safe, and how they bonded over shared faith.

A thrilling adventure that kept me guessing, with great characters, an engaging plot, and solid themes of faith and trusting God to provide. Lucas jumps into action to keep Paige and Kenny safe, I admired his taking time to understand Kenny, and his strong faith. A satisfying action-packed read, highly recommend!

(4.5) Romantic Suspense with faith! I love a book that can pull me in and still be inspirational in faith. Terri Reed does that. Right out of the gate we are with Paige at her bosses office. He is murdered, she is spotted and we take off. U.S. Marshall Lucas is called into protect her and her son Kenny. This is fast paced, lots of action, suspense and slow burn romance. Things keep happening and its brought up a couple times, that you are not promised an easy life on earth, there will be trials We have numerous perps, and I knew who the main "big reveal" was from the get go,. Though I have not read the complete series, and this is the last in the US Marshall series, I was not lost. Fabulous read. Thank you for the opportunity to read and review. I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions #ShieldingtheInnocentTarget #USMarshalls #TerriReed #LoveInspiredSuspense #Harlequin #NetGalley

Breathtaking – that's the perfect descriptor for this book! I was so engrossed that I couldn't set it aside until the very end. Paige, after witnessing her boss's murder, finds herself and her young son, accompanied by his service dog, on the run from a relentless killer. Thankfully, Deputy US Marshal Lucas Cavendish is there to offer protection, yet the killer, with seemingly unlimited resources, anticipates their every move. There is non-stop action, and the characters are very realistic. Both Paige and Lucas won me over – it's rare for me to appreciate both protagonists equally. I also liked how they leaned on their faith a lot. And Paige's son, Kenny, is just as endearing! From start to finish, I was captivated by this book, and the conclusion was fantastic!

Shielding the Innocent Target by Teri Reed is a breathtaking mixture of romantic suspense and unshakeable faith. It is definitely not for the faint of heart as it’s a white-knuckle rollercoaster ride where danger lurks around every corner. This book pulled me into the story, and I did not want to put it down. I really loved getting to know the characters in this book, and the mystery in this book kept me guessing. When everything was revealed it made sense, but I did not see it coming.

Paige Walsh just witnessed the murder of her boss, a federal prosecutor, along with files for a major, upcoming trial are missing; putting her life at risk. She and her son Kenny, and their dog Alsan, need to be placed into witness protection and will be escorted by Deputy US Marshal Lucas. Everywhere they go they are met with danger, someone is tipping off the murderer; meaning there is a leak somewhere down the line of command. Lucas has to keep Paige and her son safe as well as himself. He needs to keep them all from danger, and try to keep their hearts from getting broken in the process. But the more they come to rely on each other’s nearness, the harder this case becomes. They both know there is no future for them. Once she enters witness protection, all ties to each other will be lost forever; yet neither of them want to consider that reality. They need each other now more than ever. She needs his protection and he will protect her and Kenny, no matter what.

What truly sets this book apart is the pervasive sense of danger. Unlike stories with temporary safe havens, the threat here is a constant companion. No matter the bustling city or desolate highway, the assassin seems to be one step ahead, leaving Paige and Lucas perpetually on edge. This relentless pursuit creates a suffocating atmosphere, amplifying the emotional stakes with every turn of the page. Journey from Florida to Texas as danger, romance, and a crazed killer has you turning pages until you reach the end. This is a definite must-read for suspense lovers.

I loved Shielding the Innocent Target! I know that anytime I pick up a Terri Reed book, I’m not going to put it down until I’m done. That was certainly the case with this Love Inspired Suspense! It had me turning the pages and trying to figure out who exactly was targeting Paige.

The characters in this book are in a state of constant crisis, yet they have faith that God will get them through. After witnessing her boss’s murder, Paige is swept into the protective custody of Deputy US Marshal, Lucas Cavendish. From the moment Lucas takes Paige into protective custody, danger follows them. I really loved that both a child, Paige’s son Kenny and a dog, Kenny’s service dog Aslan, were included. Kenny has epilepsy so Paige also had to be sure to have his medications with her at all times which was hard since they were constantly on the run. All of these elements gave the book heightened suspense, and as I said, I couldn’t put it down!

Shielding the Innocent Target is a must read for readers who love clean, faith-based suspense books! I highly recommend it!

Shielding the Innocent Target by Terri Reed
A child under his protection…
and a hit man in pursuit.
After witnessing her boss’s murder, Paige Walsh must trust Deputy US Marshal Lucas Cavendish to bring her to safety. But when a notorious assassin targets her and her son, Lucas’s short-term assignment turns into a dangerous cross-country mission. For Paige to identify her boss’s killer, Lucas must get the family into witness protection. Except the hit man knows their every move…and trusting the wrong person could get them killed.
This is Paige Walsh her son Kenny and Lucas Cavendish's story.
You’ll do what you’re told. It’s very simple.”
The unfamiliar female voice froze Paige Walsh in her boss’s office doorway. The threat in the unseen woman’s tone was unmistakable.
A shiver of unease cascaded down Paige’s spine and she nearly dropped the manila mail envelope she carried. She resisted the urge to peek around the half-open door leading into the expansive corner office on the top floor of the downtown Fort Meyers Southwest Professional Building.
Deputy US Marshal Lucas “Caveman” Cavendish entered his boss’s office in the San Antonio headquarters of the US Marshal service. Marshal Gavin Armstrong nodded his silver-haired head and gestured to the captain seat across the desk from him.
“Am I in trouble?” Lucas asked, half-joking. Wasn’t often he was called into the boss’s office in the late hours of the evening. He swept the tan cowboy hat off his head and crossed one booted ankle over his knee.
I recommend this book.
Shielding the Innocent Target by Terri Reed is a 5 star book.
I am looking forward to reading more books by Terri Reed .

Paige is a hard-working paralegal employed by a federal prosecutor. In an encounter with an assassin her life changes in an instant. U. S. I received an e-copy of Shielding the Innocent Target by Terri Reed from Love Inspired through NetGalley. This is a story of suspense that kept me guessing who was behind the threats to life for the main characters. It's also a romance story as Paige and Lucas notice things that each one appreciates in the other. This is my own unsolicited opinion. It is an enjoyable clean read filled with action and attraction. I enjoyed this book very much. I really like fast paced suspense stories and this one did not disappoint. I prefer characters that have not been divorced and this meant the criteria. I also like the inclusion of a child or children in the story. I was given this book to review and always try to be honest as I can.

Terri Reed delivers an intense romantic suspense with great twists and turns.

It was inspiring to see both Paige and Lucas turn to God during the crises. As a US Marshal, Lucas preferred a more active assignment so when he’s assigned protective detail for Paige, her son, and her son’s medical therapy dog, he isn’t thrilled. Paige is fiercely protective of her son but must rely on Lucas’s wisdom and experience to see them to safety.

In the middle of it all, sparks fly between Paige and Lucas. I liked that the author seamlessly wove the romance into the story at just the right time and that she acknowledged emotions were heightened due to the trauma unfolding.

Including Paige’s epileptic son was a brilliant move by the author. His medical condition added to the suspense and his dog provided a wonderful element. My favorite part of the book? The ending drama. Amazing!

Fans of inspirational romantic suspense will enjoy this page-turner. Expect to lose some sleep because you won’t want to put it down!

Romance: Squeaky clean with only light kissing.
Faith: Both characters relied on God through crisis.

4.5 Stars!!

Get ready for a non-stop action in this romantic suspense!! From the very first opening scene, Terri Reed does an excellent job in hooking the reader in. The book opens up with Paige Walsh witnessing her boss's murder. A well renown and elusive assassin sets his mark on Paige and her son. When her boss's files for prosecuting a high profile arms dealer, she is the only one that has information and can identify the killer. Deputy US Marshal, Lucas Cavendish, becomes assigned their protector and vows to get revenge on the assassin he has had a history encounter before in the past. Once he meets Paige and gets to know her and her son, Kenny, more, the line between personal and work relationship begin to blur. Knowing she is being hunted, he vows to do whatever he can to ensure their safety. Their journey for witness protection has them going from Florida to Texas, however, the assassin always seems to be right where they are....could there be a mole somewhere??

I couldn't put the book down. I read it all in one day! The characters were fantastic. Paige, a single mother raising her medical needs son, has an inner strength you just love and admire. She puts herself behind the needs of her son and will do anything, even sacrifice her life to ensure his safety and well being. She is honest and genuine as well as considerate of others. It is unfortunate her circumstances develop from a wrong place at the wrong time scenario. Lucas, handsome, bit of a lone wolf mentality because of his line of work. He is an "all in" for his job; selfless and willing to risk his life for complete strangers. His carefully constructed walls begin to crumble the more he gets to know Paige and her son. Kenny is adorable....so sweet and his companion dog, Aslan, plays several important roles in this story. I loved the faith elements weaved into the story as well and the dependance on God to persevere through trials especially one like this. My only complaint was that the romance wrapped up very quickly at the end and would've like to see a little more build but other than that well done!!

I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley and all thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you to Harlequin - Romance!
