This is a good book. The two main characters are Sky and Jared. Sky and Jared work together, sky is a midwife and Jared is OBYN. There is an attraction. They work together with their patients. They start dating each other. They each have issues but together they work them out and fall in love.

I love the Harlequin Medical romances and this one is no different. The reality TV show aspect is a fun one and a little more lighthearted than a typical hospital drama.

Good start to the new series. Skylar moved to Nashville for a fresh start and is settling into her role as a midwife. She is drawn to serious, uptight Jared, one of the doctors. She enjoys teasing and flirting with him, trying to get under his skin and shake him up. Jared isn't sure what to make of Skylar. Her antics stir him up, but his early life made him wary of getting involved.

Skylar and Jared are assigned to work together looking after a country music star during her pregnancy. This also involves participating in the star's reality show. Spending time together pulls Jared out of his comfort zone and brings his growing feelings for her to the surface.

I grew frustrated with Jared and how much time he spent thinking about his difficult childhood. He believes he is better off not relying on someone else. At the same time, Skylar wants to see where this connection might lead. I could feel her frustration as they moved two steps forward and one step back whenever Jared's fears got the better of him. I liked the ending and seeing Jared finally let go of those fears. His big moment to show Skylar how he felt was sweet and romantic.

I also enjoyed the medical aspects of the book. This line always has intriguing situations, and this was no exception.

"Unbuttoning the Bachelor Doc" by Deanne Anders, the first book in the Nashville Midwives series, is a sweet romance between midwife Skylar and Dr. Jared. Skylar moves to Nashville for a fresh start and immediately clashes with the serious and grumpy Jared. Both characters have tragic backstories, with Jared especially haunted by his difficult childhood, making him wary of relying on others or pursuing a relationship with Skylar, who frequently teases him.

The plot thickens when a pregnant Nashville music star requests Skylar’s services, and Jared is assigned to assist, particularly to ease the anxieties of the expectant father. Their involvement in the star's reality show brings Skylar and Jared closer, pushing Jared out of his comfort zone and stirring his growing feelings for Skylar.

The narrative details the frustrations and slow progress of their relationship as Jared battles his fears and hesitations. Ultimately, Jared overcomes his past, culminating in a sweet and romantic gesture to Skylar. Overall, this book have engaging medical scenarios and intriguing situations, adding depth to the romance.

Unbuttoning the Bachelor Doc by Deanne Anders, book one in the Nashville Midwives series, is an engaging, sweet romance between a midwife and a doctor. Mid-wife Skylar moved to Nashville for a fresh start, she immediately clashes with grumpy bachelor Dr. Jared. Both Skylar and Jared have heartbreaking back stories. Jared, staid and serious, spends too much time thinking about his difficult childhood and how it's so much better not to rely on anyone else. He tries not to spend any time thinking about the cute midwife who is continually teasing him. When an up and coming pregnant Nashville music star requests Skylar’s mid-wife services, Jared is sent along to ease the anxieties of the dad-to-be. Only problem is this country music couple are part of a reality show which will include pieces with Skylar and Jared taking care of their patient. Getting closer as they work together, Skylar just might break down Jared’s walls as he develops feelings for her and sees her in a different light.

DNF'd at 35%.

I don't read a lot of category, but I like the "unbuttoning the buttoned up" dynamic in a romance. Plus it's a medical romance, which has a long history and I haven't read that many of them.

This is not for me, for a variety of reasons. The primary reason is that, over a third of the way through this book, I didn't get a spark between the characters. The buttoned up doc spends too much time thinking about his difficult childhood and how it's so much better not to rely on anyone else and not enough time thinking about the cute midwife who's continually teasing him. The balance wasn't right. If it had tipped in the other direction, I might have been interested in continuing to read it.

Then there's the facts of the book - this is a mid-wife and an OB-GYN and I'm not that interested in book babies, and it's set in Nashville with a country music star situation and I'm not interested in that either. Why did I request this ARC? Because I like to try things out of my usual reading patterns - I'm often pleasantly surprised. In this case... no.

This will very much be a YMMV situation, though.

An engaging sweet romance between a midwife and a doctor. Both have heartbreaking back stories. Some country music folks and reality show stuff add to the fun. I look forward to reading the next one in this new series. Thanks to the publisher for providing a copy via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.
