Wow, this is a good YA! I had so many theories throughout the book and by the end, I was shocked by the truth. I listened to the audiobook and both narrators were great. I will definitely read more by this author in the future!

YA books can be hit or miss for me but the synopsis sounded too good to pass up this debut novel by Trish Lundy.

Lauren has had a hard life - so hard that a tragedy has forced her to move to a new state during her senior year in high school. But the reason of the move was supposed to stay quiet….but her secret doesn’t stay a secret for very long because she falls for a boy. A boy that is considered dangerous, a boy that her entire soccer team warns her against. The boy: a Crestmont brother; these brothers have LOST girlfriends due to very strange and mysterious circumstances…but money and influence reign supreme and the missing girls were never investigated.

This thriller will keep you guessing - and if you’re a fan of audiobooks the narration was great!

Wonderful debut novel. Thank you to the author, @henryholt and @macmillian audio for the change to read/listen to this book!

Thank you so much to netgalley and Macmillan Audio for the arc of this book in exchange for an honest review!

I enjoyed this audiobook! The narrators were good and the story was told well.

However, I was not enjoying the story so it was a DNF for me. I couldn’t connect with the characters and they all acted so badly. I don’t like YA that seems older than it should be. I also wasn’t enjoying the mystery of it.

I hope others love this one. I’m giving it a three star since I did like the audiobook.

Thank you to NetGalley, Trish Lundy & MacMillan Audio for an audio ARC of The One That Got Away With Murder in exchange for an honest review.

I was not previously familiar with this author, but the cover & synopsis of this one sounded good!

This was a solid, quick-paced suspense/thriller that I think will resonate will with the YA audience & even some adults.

In a nutshell, Robbie & Trevor Crestmont are believed by the town to have had something to do with their each of their girlfriends' deaths. However, they belong to an uber wealthy family & everyone thinks they got away with it. Then Lauren comes to town & starts up a relationship with Robbie. As Lauren & Robbie get closer, Lauren also becomes closer to figuring out what really happened to those dead girlfriends.

This was a solid 4-Star read that I am happy to recommend.

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC!
This was a fast paced, action filled, multiple murder mystery that kept getting more deadly as time progressed. I absolutely devoured this book and couldn't stop listening to it (audiobook). The main character, Lauren moves East with her mom after something traumatic happens to her in California. Her mom has a new boyfriend, and they move out East with him so Lauren can start fresh for her senior year, or so she thinks. She gets wrapped up in a multiple murder situation with two brothers who may have murdered their girlfriends. This story was absolutely fantastic and the twists and turns were surprising!

Lauren’s move to Happy Valley may not be as happy as the towns name may make you think, but she’s trying to make the best of it, by keeping her new hookup at an arms length.

When school starts, she quickly finds out that her hookup might have killed his former girlfriend, and that his family has a history of the women in their lives meeting some grisly fates. Will Lauren end up the next victim of this family, or are they being framed???

I did not see the ending coming, my guesses were so far off until the last moment. Definitely recommend this read to anyone interested in thrillers!

Thanks to NetGalley & MacMillan Audio for hooking me up with a preview of the audiobook!!!

Who really did it?
Several different times I thought I knew who did it….. and boy was I very wrong! I did not see that one coming.
I really enjoyed this book. It was very easy to listen to and very well written. Until I was in the last couple chapters. I felt like once everything really started happening it was rushed. Still very interesting, but I felt like it could’ve used more detail.
All together, it was a really good book and a great read! I love a good small town, murder mystery, who done it book.

The narrator did a fantastic job & I really enjoyed listening to them!

Thank you NetGalley, Macmillan, and Trish for this ALC of The One That Got Away With Murder!

Really torn with how to rate this book. Topic overall was very disturbing as well as several smaller topics thrown in but it was well written and kept me engaged trying to figure it out but overall in the end- disappointed. Thank you to NetGalley for the advanced copy of this audiobook. I enjoyed the narration - probably what helped keep me engaged.

Lauren is the new girl at school hoping for a new start however her dark past and friend choices don't make that possible. Without knowing it, Lauren gets romantically tangled up with the wrong boy, Robbie Cresmont, who has an infamous past of his own. Girls who date Robbie and his brother Trevor seem to end up dead. Despite being warned off, Lauren can't seem to decide if she trusts Robbie or believes the rumors. She can't seem to outrun her own history and now a possible killer. Will she end up next?

This was a great new adult fiction/young adult story. If you like Holly Jackson books then this is def your vibe. It was a fun, quick read that kept me guessing til the end!

This was my first time reading from the YA category since my journey back into reading in 2024. The writing is well done and I think Trish Lundy has captured how modern teens speak and carry themselves, even when their parents aren’t around.

The reason I’ve rated it two stars (more like 2.5/2.75) is because it was a fine book but there were times where it just didn’t hold my attention. I did find it predictable so I did not have any “gasping out loud” moments of shock. Those moments are what push me to give other books an automatic 3+ star rating at minimum. I was not a fan of the relationship between Lauren and her mother. Their conversations were at times frustrating.

The Narrator spoke very well and she has a lovely voice. I listened at 1.75x speed and everything was still perfectly clear and easy to understand. I found it distracting at times though, as her voice (although lovely) was a little unbelievable that she was in her teens, sharing her point of view of the story. I was also not a fan of Joshua Quinn’s narration near the end of the book. It felt a little disconnected because the rest of the book is all told from the female main character’s point of view.

Thank you to Trish Lundy, NetGalley, and MacMillan Audio for providing me with this audiobook ARC in exchange for my honest review.

What a fun and twisty read. This author truly kept me guessing and that's not easy to do.

When Lauren moves to Happy Valley, she starts on the girls soccer team and begins to make friends. One day they warn her not to be friends with Robbie Crestmont. Given that he's one of the few people she met when she first moved to town and has been her hookup since then, she's hesitant to tell them. When they go on to tell her he killed his girlfriend, Lauren is thrown off. But Lauren isn't innocent either. She's got secret stories that she's not sharing.

There's so much more to all of these stories than you first anticipate. As the story unfolds and the information is gradually parceled out, it's eye-opening. I was intrigued and hooked to this story from the beginning.

Since I listened to the audiobook, I'd like to say that the narration was well done and helped me to stay immersed in the storyline.

Thank you to NetGalley for the early copy of the audiobook.

I enjoyed this YA mystery book. It was hard to get into at first, but the twists and turns were sufficient to pull me back into the story. I was not even close to solving this mystery. The announcement of the murderer was shocking and very unexpected. I have to say that I guessed wrong more than three times! I think the storyline was great and loved the fact that the author didn't leave me wondering as to what happened to the main characters and why some things happened the way they did. Great book!

3.5 stars
I enjoyed this book, but it just didn't immediately pull me in like a lot of other thrillers/mysteries have.
Main character Lauren has moved to a new school after a fire where her and her mom used to live drastically injured her ex-boyfriend Clint. This new town has recently gone through the death of 2 young girls, both connected to one family, the Cresmonts. Lauren forms a no strings attached relationship with one of them, Robbie, and ends up finding evidence that he may have been involved in one or both deaths.
The characters didn't really jump out at me. Lauren was the typical mystery/thriller MC who pushes everyone away, or tries not to form lasting bonds because of something that happened in the past. She had a strained relationship with her mom who has a new boyfriend, the girls on the soccer team didn't like her. Robbie was kind of bland and the other characters didn't stand out, besides Lauren's mom's boyfriend's daughter Ainsley who secretly did coke.
The plot moved along well, there is another pretty shocking death maybe halfway through with a lot of clues found that could potentially point to a lot of different people. It really seemed plausible that all of these people could have done it too. The person it was, was someone I was not expecting. One thing I did like was that with a lot of books that has a traumatic past event, it gets alluded to a lot with no information. In this one, we knew that there was a fire, and that Lauren's boyfriend had gotten extremely hurt. We didn't know why, but that partial information actually made it more enjoyable when we found out what actually happened because I wasn't super annoyed about the "no information, alluded to" *thing* that happened.
There were 2 narrators of this audiobook, a female for Lauren and then a few chapters with a male narrator for an -unnamed character.- I really liked the female narrator, she narrated probably 90% of the book. I think she was a great choice, she sounded like Lauren's character would sound if she was a real person if that makes sense. The male narrator was great as well, it was surprising in a good way when he showed up. It was a perfect POV switch.
Overall, this was a fun and quick mystery/thriller for anyone who enjoys this genre!

New girl at a new school kind of story…Mystery, thriller, suspense, it has it all! Lauren just moved to Pennsylvania and was wanting to start over but things won’t be quite what she has in mind. This book was not like anything that I’ve read before where I thought I knew immediately who had committed the ‘whodunit’ thing but I’m so glad that I was pleasantly surprised to be wrong. I can’t wait to read more by Trish Lundy in the future!
