Plot: The Mirror picks up where Inheritance left off, with Sonya and Owen through said mirror. And that's all I'm going to say about the plot because I don't want to spoil y'all for anything since this is the second book in the series!
What I Loved: I'm really obsessed with Nora's paranormals. I love the way she crafts characters. This is, however, a book you need to pick up when you're definitely ready for the way Nora Roberts does slow and soft interspersed with intense paranormal moments. There's a party being planned in this book and there is so much party planning, while you're also dealing with Dobbs stuff (ghost). What's killing me about this is that I want to be able to binge the entire trilogy, but as I'm reading them technically before they even come out, that's not really possible. But honestly, such a good time!
Who I Would Recommend The Mirror To: Well, first of all, people who've already read and enjoyed Inheritance, obviously. But more seriously, someone who wants a cozy spooky read. Basically, if you like getting to really see someone's day to day life and you want a realistic feeling slow-building romance, I would definitely recommend this trilogy. I'm honestly so excited to reread this one via audio when it comes out!
A wonderful followup to the first book in the series. Ms Robert's 2nd book is stronger than the first, filling in holes from the initial tome. Multiple characters come into better focus, creating new depth, and the friendship between the two main females feels genuine and warm. The leap from acquaintances to lovers seems a bit abrupt, but perhaps that's because the story occasionally skips past chunks of time in which the relationship could grow. As always, Ms Roberts has another winner.
I loved "Inheritance" the first book in this trilogy, and was really excited for the second book. It has a lot of great parts with a little bit of filler. That said I am invested in the story, and looking forward to the final book.
Very little plot progress occurs.
I am not exaggerating when I say that the overwhelming majority of the book is dedicated to the main characters cooking and eating dinner together, along with a bizarrely specific audit of each time the dogs or cat were let outside to poop. If you were to somehow remove all of the scenes or sentences that were solely devoted to people eating or animals pooping, the book would be 1/4 as long.
4.25 – 4.5 STARS
In this second installment to Nora Roberts’ Lost Brides Trilogy, “The Mirror” picks up right where the first book left readers hanging. Though I am still fully invested in this unique and captivating saga--as well as the characters I’ve come to know and love--I am somewhat disappointed in the story’s slow and often times tedious progression. The repetitiveness and lack of conciseness only serves to further drag things along. Truly, I think this story could have been better told as a duet rather than a trilogy. That said, this suspenseful, supernatural romance has me hopelessly hooked, and I wait with bated breath for the rest of this spellbinding story to finally play out.
Thank you @stmartinspress @netgalley for my gifted digital copy. My thoughts are my own.
This book continues the story of Sonya MacTavish, who inherits a beautiful mansion on the coast of Maine, only to discover that there is a deadly ghost story attached to the house that involves seven brides, murdered over time, and their missing wedding rings.
Sonya falls in love with the mansion and sets about restoring it to its former glory. In the first book, 𝙄𝙣𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚, Sonya meets and begins falling in love with Trey, a local lawyer. Her best friend, Cleo, a free-spirited artist moves in with her. Sonya is determined that no ghost will keep her from enjoying her home, and when an antique mirror suddenly appears, Sonya feels led to step through it!
While the first book contains more suspense and ghostly visits, the second book concentrates more on Sonya and Cleo as they focus on making the old mansion a home. I enjoyed the descriptions of the home, and the strong sense of family, friendship, and love that is built into the story. Though there are ghostly visions, no real progress is made toward finding the missing rings. The second book, like the first, ends with a cliffhanger. I recommend that you read the first book, before enjoying the second book.
Narrator Brittany Pressley did a lot of heavy lifting for this book. So many uncommon dialects/accents, and she flowed so seamlessly from one to the next. Hopefully she’ll have more to work with for the third book in the trilogy - the substance in this second book was the epitome of filler, unfortunately. If I had to hear about one more meal prep or movie night… ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for the narration, ⭐️⭐️⭐️ for content.
Thanks to Macmillan Audio for the advanced copy.
This is the 2nd book in the Lost Bride trilogy. The first book 𝙄𝙣𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚 was one of my top books of last year so I jumped at the chance to start this one.
Sonya has inherited a mansion in Maine that is haunted with the ghosts of brides who have died in the house on their wedding day. Sonya is trying to break the curse set upon the house in order to free the spirits.

I have mixed thoughts about this book. I found it to being an engaging read overall and I enjoyed the use of the mirror to get to know more of the past generations of Poole family members and their back stories. I also love the friendship between Sonya and Cleo – both strong women not afraid to speak their minds.
However, this was a slower paced book compared to the first, and I was somewhat disappointed that the main storyline involving the cursed brides and the antagonist, Hester Dobbs did not really move forward. Dobbs is such a polarizing character but she was very repetitive in her behavior and I was looking for more from this character. There was also a lot of detail given about mundane activities such as cooking dinner and what each character was working on. The book could have definitely been paired down to make a more concise read.
Despite this not being the strongest book, I do plan to continue the series as Robert’s is a trusted author for me and I look forward to how it will all come together!
The long awaited sequel to inheritance! This is listed as a trilogy so I knew to not expect full answers going in. I am VERY impatiently awaiting the last book in this series and the answers to it all!
The Mirror picks up exactly where Inheritance left off. There is a ton of character development in Sonja, and Cleo, who is my favorite! There is nothing in this life like a Nora Robert’s Trilogy. I absolutely can not wait a year for the next installment
The Mirror picks up where Inheritance left off (with a cliffhanger). Readers will want to read Inheritance first.
Sonya and her best friend Cleo live in a remarkable cliffside home in Maine. The same spirits encountered in the first book continue to haunt them as they try to solve the mystery of what’s keeping the spirits in the confines of the home. They’d like to free them but that’s easier said than done.
As in any Nora Roberts book I’ve read there are primary female characters who are the epitome of girl power and the men who gravitate to them – enjoyable and not at all eye roll-inducing. I liked the secondary spirit characters most of whom made me laugh as they displayed their unique and helpful gifts. I look forward to seeing them all again in the next book.
This book was weird. I mean it's fantasy but some was super far-fetched. Anyway, I also hated the ending. It wasn't a cliff hanger...it was just a hard stop.
The Mirror is the second book in Nora Roberts The Lost Bride Trilogy picking up where the first book The Inheritance left off. For all those on pins and needles waiting for this book to arrive, you will not be disappointed. If you’ve heard about this latest book, I highly recommend you go back and read The Inheritance to truly enjoy the second book. It will be worth your time. The story is fast paced and hard to put down. Sonya MacTavish and her friend Cleo have settled into the Maine mansion Sonya inherited from an uncle she never knew existed. Their lives are full, setting up their home, working, enjoying the company of their friends Trey and Owen, along with helpful ghosts. Not to mention the ghost of Sonya’s great grandmother Clover and her musical playlists and the antics of their pet menagerie.
However, it is the paranormal that brings suspense and intrigue to the story. Sonya’s dreams and the appearing mirror she can step through to the past appear frequently, providing more clues about the family curse. She learns about the deaths of each of the 7 brides who died in the mansion on their wedding day with their wedding rings stolen by the ghost Dobbs who haunts the mansion but dies every night. Where are the rings? How do they deal with Dobbs, end the curse, let the ghosts sleep and all find peace.. Nora Roberts for the win once again and now I will impatiently wait for the final book in the trilogy. I thank St Martin’s Press and NetGalley for the honor of reading this ARC. Nora Roberts does it again with another fantastic story and Now I impatiently await the final book of the trilogy. A big thank you to St Martin’s Press and NetGalley for the honor of reading this ARC.
Great new book in The Lost Bride Mansion trilogy! Nora Roberts proves again that she is the master of the suspense-filled trilogy with The MIRROR. As Sonya McTavish settles into life at the historic Poole mansion with her best friend Cleo, she's continues to build her new business creating marketing programs for her growing list of clients. She also focuses on solving the eerie mystery of the venerable Victorian mansion and dedicates herself to evicting the evil spirit whose curse holds the family home in its thrall. Embracing her new life and the family she never knew but has come to treasure, Sonya boldly engages the evil spirit that has controlled her ancestral home for centuries. In true Roberts' style, the second of the three novels moves the story forward, offering insights into Sonya, her love for Trey, her strong friendship with Cleo and her newfound friends and family in the small town on the coast of Maine. The finale is one of the best cliffhangers I've ever read. Highly recommended for Nora Roberts' fans and any other readers who love a good novel filled with friendship, love and the menace of a spine-chilling spirit.
I loved The Mirror by Nora Roberts! All of her books, but especially her trilogies, always fall into my favorite books of the year and this book didn't disappoint. This is the second book in the trilogy and was a continuation of the story that Roberts created last year. We continue learning more about Hester Dobbs while those living in the house seek to end her terror, once and for all. Sonya and Owen, being direct decedents, have the true "insider" look into what occurred with each of the rings that were taken from the brides. We also have the simmering romances building (or not so simmering!) which Roberts is a master in crafting the slow burn! I loved everything about this book and can't wait for the finale of this tale. Thank you for NetGalley and the publisher for an advance review copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
This series is a wonderful story. I warn others - its a true series. The first ended on a cliffhanger and this picked up where it left off so I wouldn't recommend this to anyone who hasn't read the first in the series. The plot and pacing are perfect. I love the descriptions of the manor. Roberts has another winning series here and noe I'm stuck waiting for #3!
Oof, well, I think I'm done with this series and with this author, which makes me so sad. I credit Nora Roberts with kindling my love of reading and will always think of her with fondness, but in more recent years, her books have left me so underwhelmed and disappointed. This book is no exception.
After reading Inheritance, which had me intrigued by the storyline but annoyed with the choppy dialogue and weird pacing, I was interested enough to request the ARC for this one, which is the second in her latest trilogy. The pacing wasn't weird this time, just slow. Achingly, boringly slow. The choppy dialogue remained and continued to annoy me.
The perfection emulated in the relationships between Sonya and Cleo, Sonya and Trey, and Cleo and Owen felt too perfect and trite, and again, boring. There isn't even any spice to make it interesting. One scene maybe and everything else is just alluding to spice. There was no conflict there and since the plot didn't move forward much, this had me so close to DNFing this book because what's the point? Sonya and Trey could at least have had words over his use of the nickname "cutie." To quote my teenager: cringe.
Speaking of the plot, it was completely redundant in- and outside of itself. If you read the first book, you've read this one too. If your mind drifted through something while reading this one, don't worry, they repeat it in a page or two. We did at least get to meet Cleo's grandmother in this book, though even that was underwhelming. The most emotional I got with this book was when Sonya's mom talked to Clover.
So, this book was definitely not for me and I won't be reading the third, not even to see how it all ends.
This is the second book in a series and they need to be read in order. This book is full of suspense, romance and has a paranormal aspect. The action in the book starts from the first page nd doesn’t let up. I have loved both books, my only criticism is I have to wait another year for the final book in the series. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.
Thank you for allowing me to read this book as an ARC.
I was so excited for this book to finally come out this year.. I loved the first book in the series and couldn't wait ro get my hands on the 2nd part. I also loved this one even though I felt that not as much happened as in the first one. The characters and protagonist developed much further which was great to see; and I was happy to see that the characters remained the same instead of throwing a ton of new ones into the mix. The storyline was well thought out and built upon the recent happenings, not leaving the story to imagination.
I am already excited for the 3rd book in this trilogy.. This one was a 4 🌟 read for me!

An old, haunted house with history, a curse, and spirit occupants
The Mirror, book two in the Lost Bride Trilogy, is a tale of a family haunted for generations by a curse on its brides. As with book one, Inheritance, this is a fabulous novel which I was sucked into right away. My review remains the same - Part mystery, part ghost story, part romance. The characters are well written and multi-dimensional; I was captivated by all of them – the real people, the ghosts; even the Manor is a character. I loved the plot. I loved the relationships that have been created and are growing, friendships and romance. I loved the strong female lead with her strength, independence, and growth. I love the welcoming of the town. This is a trilogy with a continuing storyline. Book One – Inheritance should be read first. So very well done!
