This book title is perfect for this read. We are back on our journey to see. What all is revealed in this part of the story.
Nobody can write characters and situations as well as Ms Roberts. The way she connects the characters and the back stories is riveting. I like that Sonya and Trey’s relationship keeps growing with respect of each other and how they handle the ups and downs of living in an unusual manor. The relationship between Cleo and Owen is happening organically, beginning with friendship and respect. I love the interactions with some of the ghosts. Except, of course, Hester Dobbs. It’s going to be hard to wait on the next book to see how Sonya resolves retrieving the seven rings. My only advice is to try to read each book, one right after the other, to get a better and more fulfilling experience.
Nora Roberts is back again with book 2 of the Lost Bride Series and this second book does not disappoint. If you haven’t read the first book, I highly encourage you to read the first book to get a better sense of the story and characters. However, even without reading the first book, the continued story is done well and you can easily pick up the story.
Sonya MacTavish has learned a lot about the Poole side of the family since inheriting the Poole Manor. Along the way, she has found her strength, her determination, drive and her heart has found love. With the help of her best friend, Cleo, her newly-found cousin, Owen and the man she loves, Trey, together as a team, they are working to break the curse of the murdered brides. Well written, the characters and settings are people and places you’d want to meet. The Poole manor is a character in itself, the spookiness and antics of the ghosts are all part of the story. But this isn’t a ghost story for the campfire, this is a story of love and loss, of finding true bliss only to have it ripped away from you. It is ultimately a story about love and how it will prevail. Get comfy and enjoy this read.
I received a free e-arc of this book through Netgalley. I just read[book:Inheritance|65213377] which is the first book in this trilogy and I must recommend that you start with The Inheritance before you read The Mirror which is Book 2 in The Lost Bride Trilogy. It just makes so much more sense to read them in order. I really enjoyed Book 1. I felt there were some good plot points in Book 2 to move the series along, but it also felt a bit stretched out so while I look forward to Book 3 in this trilogy, I think it might've had better timing as a 2-book series. There are good ghosts and a jealous mean ghost to make life more exciting. It made me think about the pros/cons of living in a mansion full of ghosts. Thankfully some of them like to do dishes and pick out your clothes so that helps with the workload. A good read, but I really want to get to the conclusion to see how they out Dobbs from the mansion.
I really enjoyed the first book in this series, The Inheritance, and was looking forward to reading the next one in the series. However, it reads a lot like the first one with some more details about the brides. Hopefully, the third book in the series will be better.
Thank you, NetGalley and the publisher for the e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The Mirror picks up right where the Inheritance left off, so the plot moves quickly and continues this pace throughout the book. The mix of everyday life task with the mystery and hauntings of the house move the book along, and the mix of history as Sonya sees what happened to the seven brides brings the emotional pull to the story. Sonya and Trey continue to develop their relationship. Trey is the best boyfriend material, and Cleo and Owen deepen their flirt. I can't wait to see how this foursome defeats the evil witch.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC of this book. I have been reading Nora Roberts books since I was a teenager and for the past twenty something years she has been an automatic read for me, her trilogies being my favorite.
I am giving this book four stars only because I feel as though it was a little long in places. I enjoyed going back to the story of Sonya, Cleo, Trey, and Owen, but I feel as though some parts were redundant.
That being said, I really enjoyed the book. Learning more about each individual Lost Bride and their thoughts was an important and enjoyable part of the book. I also really appreciated the closure for Sonya in her professional life.
Overall, a very solid and entertaining read!
The Mirror picks up with the story right where The Inheritance leaves off, and in true Nora Roberts fashion, it’s hard to put down. The world she has created is such an intriguing escape. It’s got a great balance of spooky and comedic timing. And the friendships, living situations, and relationships— while hard to believe in real life— are written in a way that makes it easy to suspend disbelief and go with it.
The Mirror fleshes out more of what was introduced in The Inheritance. The reader gets the back story on the lost brides of the manor as well as more details on the evil villain, Hester Dobbs. I was a bit surprised by the revelations on Dobbs, as the foundations for her character seem oddly flimsy, but I’m willing to bet the full arc of her character and motivations won’t be revealed until the third installment.
This is a true middle novel and cannot stand alone, so I’d definitely recommend reading The Inheritance first.
I’d like to thank St Martin’s Press and NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I dove into "The Mirror" with high expectations as a Nora Roberts fan, and I wasn’t disappointed. The continuation of Sonya and Cleo’s journey at Lost Bride Manor, intertwined with the evolving romances of Sonya with Trey and Cleo with Owen, kept me engrossed. While the focus on daily details occasionally slowed the pace, the supernatural elements and the unraveling mysteries surrounding the manor kept me eagerly turning pages. I’m eagerly anticipating the final installment to see how everything resolves. A solid continuation in the trilogy, deserving of 4 stars.
Let me start by saying that this book is far better than Identity. However, this book is far longer than it needed to be.
And, Ms. Roberts is overly obsessed with those blasted dashes. There's not a page without one, usually 3 or 4. Add all the dashes to the awkward sentences and there were some pages I had to read twice to try to figure out what was being conveyed. I wasn't always successful with that task.
Let's not forget the unbelievable perfection of the 4 major protagonists plus their pets and the entire Doyle family. That much perfect is just not possible.
The Mirror has a particular peeve for me. It's the andouille sausage. I'm from Louisiana. Grew up in New Orleans and lived in various parts of the state. You can't always find andouille in the grocery stores there. You're surely not going to find such a specific type of sausage in small town Maine.
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an ARC of The Mirror

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.
As a huge Nora Roberts fan, I was excited to receive this book. It picks up right where book one leaves off.
Once we found the mirror, it played a much larger part in this volume and provided some backstory not presented in book one. I don’t feel that the mystery of the lost brides was addressed as heavily here and anticipate that book three will be much more focused on that aspect and will close the loop. I enjoyed seeing the romantic growth between the main characters – both Sonia & Trey as well as Cleo & Owen (I was rooting for that one!). Now I must wait patiently for book three.
While I don’t have the highest praise for this, I am invested in the story and am looking forward to the third book.
“The Mirror” definitely is suffering from second book syndrome. I feel like it is just filler to bridge the gap between the first book and the third. It’s full of mundane day-to-day details that really bogg down the story.
While we get to know more about the ghosts and their stories (I love Clover!) and the romances take a step forward, there are also pages and pages of furniture description, planting and cooking scenes. It does nothing to further the story and just makes you wish that Ms Roberts would hurry up and get to the point. The big scary ghost even got boring. You didn’t ever feel like the characters were in peril. It was all variations of the same scene. Doors slamming, lights going out, etc.
I do appreciate that it’s not her standard formula of three girls and three guys in the trilogy, but does Ms Roberts know that she can just write a book and a sequel and it doesn’t have to be a trilogy?
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
Nora Roberts is an auto-read author for me. She has so many books and they've all been fantastic. This newest in "The Lost Bride" trilogy is no exception.
The ghosts are extremely active in this one while Sonya continues to discover secrets from the past in hopes of breaking the curse soon. The ending was a cliffhanger and I am in need of book 3 immediately. I need to know how Sonya finally breaks the curse and gets all of the past brides a happily ever after as well as getting her own with Trey.
Recommended!
I love Nora Roberts trilogies, and this is another one of my favorites. I usually give most of Nora Roberts books five stars, but I'm going to give this one a four or actually a four and a half. It's the second in the series and about an evil witch that comes back as a ghost to haunt a manor, that the main character Sonya has inherited. It involves a lot of history of the manor and the brides that came before her. The writing as usual draws you in and the relationships are foremost in the book. I absolutely love the ghost Clover and how she plays music that is fitting for the occasion from phones and speakers. While the first book had a lot more action and development of characters, I actually thought this second book was a bit slow, with not a lot happening. If it wasn't for the characters, that I loved and want to read more about, I would say this series could have been wrapped up in two books. But, I will wait patiently for the third book and look forward to reading how they eventually destroy the nasty witch, while hopefully leaving the other beloved ghosts to freely roam the manor.
Another great read from Nora Roberts.
The Mirror followed the continuing story of Sonya and Cleo, along with their new loves.
A wicked witch(who's also a ghost), friendly house ghosts, and lots on mystery make this a great part 2 of The lost Brides Trilogy. Fully fleshed out characters and a wonderful small town atmosphere will draw you in.
I fell into this book as much as I did The Bride. Im eagerly awaiting book 3.
Not often that I DNF a book. I cannot get into this one. I have struggled through 4 chapters. Too many other books to read to persevere with this one.
This book is so amazing and enchanting! I literally cannot stop thinking about it long after the final page. Sonya and Cleo are making the manor quite a home, but Dobbs is determined to keep it. The relationships with Winter, Grandmere and Trey and Owen are so heart warming and you can't help but like them all. I can't wait to see how it unfolds in the next book. This series is Nora at her best!!!!! Thanks #Netgalley for this amazing ARC.
The Mirror is the follow up to The Inheritance, this story continues with Sonya traveling through a time portal mirror that is showing the past of The Lost Bride Manor. With the help her family and friends, the mystery of the curse upon the manor become a little clearer. Along with the time portal, she is finding portraits of the Lost Brides that have been patient by her father and his twin. The more she is shown, the closer she finds to breaking the curse.
Nora Roberts has a great talent for writing serial books that always leave the reader wanting more. Her classic writing of supernatural elements mixed with romance keeps the interest of the reader. And always, I enjoy the adorable pets with quirky personalities. Did not want this story to end, and cannot wait for the finale of the series.
I was given an advanced copy via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
The Mirror is a an example of Nora Roberts at her best! She is a fantastic writer and I didn’t want the book to end. Thankfully we get one more in the trilogy to look forward to. I finished reading The Mirror quickly and was left gasping for more! The ghostly characters are as important to me as the main characters. Very multi dimensional storytelling keeps me coming back.
This series is fantastic! Be warned, you definitely need to start with Book 1-The Inheritance.
These characters are so likable and The Manor is like a character itself. This installment, The Mirror, picks up where the last left off. The Poole brides have stories to share with Sonya and as she uncovers more about her home and the tragedies it witnessed. Sonya is compelled to break the family curse, but she’s not alone, she has a great support system. This tale was filled with paranormal action-I couldn’t stop reading until I came to the ending, and even then I wasn’t ready for that to be the end. I can’t wait for the conclusion to this series!
Thank you to St.Martins press for the opportunity to read an early NetGalley copy-all thoughts and opinions are my own.
