Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book!
I have been WAITING for this one! Since I read the first one last year! It did not disappoint! Definitely in my top 5 for the year!
4.5 Book two of the trilogy picked up right where the first one left off with Sonya and Owen stepping through the mirror. It was a good continuation to the ghost story with progress made on understanding the history of the brides and the manor. I love all the friendly ghosts that become part of their family and wish I had my own Molly! 😊 I also loved seeing how Sonya and Cleo fit into their new community and for it to become their true home.
The dialogue can be a little hard to follow at times, especially if you aren’t used to the style the author uses when writing as J.D. Robb. I’m still betting there’s been some marketing money exchanged for using “Coke” 29 times in the book. It’s so frequent, it’s distracting.
The ghost part of the story will obviously continue in book three, but I have no clue who will be the love interest.
Much thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the opportunity to read and review this book prior to publication.
I am new to Nora Robert’s and read this without realizing this was a second book! I am engulfed even so! Ordering the first one as we type.
I absolutely am in LOVE with this trilogy so far. This is the second book in the Lost Bride Trilogy and picks up directly where the first ended, so if you haven't read the first you will definitely want to read the first book "Inheritance" first before diving into this one. I actually went back and re-read the first book just so I'd have the story fresh in my mind when I started the second, and I'm so glad I did because I loved revisiting these characters and their stories.
This book picks up directly where "Inheritance" left off, and it was non-stop until the end with yet another bit of cliffhanger. The story still focused on Sonya and Trey, but this time we got a little bit of romance from Cleo and Owen. The Manor's ghostly inhabitants are all still up to their lovable antics and are just fantastic characters overall (with the exception of the annoying "baddie in residence", as I like to call her). I always love Clover's choice of music and how Molly is so dedicated in keeping the house top notch. In this book we get to learn even more about some of the ghosts' histories, as well as see the progress of all our living main characters. I cannot wait to see where the story will lead us in the third and final book!
One of the reasons I absolutely LOVE Nora Roberts' books is her character development and attention to details. Some may find the everyday details of characters simply getting up in the morning and planning their day as boring or a bit much, but honestly, it makes me feel like I am right there with the characters and experiencing their lives right along with them. It truly is an escape for me.
Many, many thanks to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for my honest and enthusiastic review.
This series. Seriously, I cannot say enough good things about it. When I think back to some of her other, paranormal type trilogies, it's three different couples and one over arcing plotline(if that's a thing). This series is one continuous trilogy, and while she of course, adds in another couple, it's still one, continuous plotline across the two (thus far) books. I love the premise of this one. Read Inheritance first, obviously, and go in with an open mind.
Absolutely loved it!
I have been anxiously awaiting book 2 in this trilogy, book one left off on one big cliffhanger and I could not wait to return to Poole Bay and catch up with Sonya , Trey, Owen, and Cleo and the secrets and mysteries of the manor!
Let me start by saying you need to read book one to get the full story and because book one ends on such a cliffhanger and book 2 picks up immediately after the cliffhanger.
This author has blown me away with this series, and I seriously cannot wait for three to see how this ends up, will good overcome evil?, Will love, triumph, hate, will the light out shine the darkness and who will break the curse of the manor!
'The Mirror", second in The Lost Brides Trilogy is fantastic and provides a much-needed link between the beginning of the narrative and the conclusion. coming in Book Three. At the conclusion of Book One, 'Inheritance', Sonya and her cousin Owen have stepped through a mirror. On the other side, they witness the death of one of the lost brides and return to present day. The Gothic Mansion is the perfect setting and use of ghosts from the past is incorporated in to the story is superb. Sonya, BFF Cleo, boyfriend Trey, and recently discovered cousin Owen are a merry band throughout the book, This work is the perfect bridge to the third and last novel in the series that will be released in 2025 because through Sonya we learn the stories of each of the Lost Brides. If this review is disjointed it is because the book was so enjoyable and it would be a shame to ruin it for any other reader.
Thank you St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this arc in return for an honest review.
Very solid 4.5 read, I know the third one is going to be an absolutely wild ride. I love how many details have been fleshed out over this second book – the relationships with the characters, the detailed scenes with the brides, and the vivid descriptions of the scenes with our big bad really add to the world Nora's created in Poole's Bay. I don't know how I'm going to wait for the third one!!!
The second book in the Lost Bride Trilogy, this is definitely not a stand-alone novel. So much so, in fact, that it seemed to pick up as if it were just a single book with the first one cut into multiple by the publisher. And the ending leads me to believe the third book will be the same way, though I suspect we won't know for sure for another year at least. I really hate reading books like this before they are all available.
In any case, this one picks up where Inheritance left off, not even reminding you of the back story established in the first book. Sonya and Trey are an established couple, with Sonya's best friend Cleo living in the manor with her. The Mirror continues the saga of the seven brides who have died there and while the development of their relationship with the community and surrounding events move the story forward, by the end I was getting a little tired of the repetition of Sonya going into the mirror to see history she can't affect, new portraits showing up, and the repeated tantrums of Hobbs. It really feels like this story could have been told in a lot less than three books.
The Mirror picks up where Inheritance left off, with the mirror. Sonya, the main character is rebuilding a life for herself after moving to the mansion she inherited, getting her business going, starting a new relationship, having her best friend move in, becoming part of the community, and getting comfortable with her spectral housemates, most of her spectral housemates that is. The story moves slowly, showing a level of normalcy that has entered into the characters' lives, but with breaks of spooky discoveries and disruptions. Sonya, with the support of her best friend Cleo, her new boyfriend Trey, and cousin Owen, takes on the mystery of the seven brides. We learn more about the individual brides through Sonya's trips through the mirror and a bit about the witch that cursed the family. Clearly, Sonya is the one to break this curse, and parts of this book are dedicated to the clues to accomplish her goal, but that actual task seems to await us in the final book of the trilogy.
I received an eARC of this book thru NetGalley (for which I want to thank NetGalley and the publisher, St. Martin's Press) for an honest review. The opinion expressed here is my own.
I cannot believe this book is a Read now!!! I felt so lucky getting to read The Inheritance and now this one I can just read? Crazy!!! But I am so very happy and grateful for it. Nora Roberts has been a favorite of mine for almost 30 years. She is consistently so well written and developed characters! There is nothing wrong with this book! It picks up with Sonya where the first book left off. Definitely recommend the first book first but you will want to go right into book 2.
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book provided by NetGalley.
Yet again, we’re all reminded why there is a gold standard in suspense with a dash of romance when it comes to the paranormal. And that standard is named Nora Roberts. She gives us such normalcy. The friendship and love as it grows. The “food is love” feelings of togetherness that resonates so clearly with me because I, too, love the kitchen. The heat as people click even more. And the joy of those souls long since passed in having a purpose for the alive people they now share space with in the manor. But then she sprinkles some fear on top and thrusts us into mystery and I already need the final installment!
The spirits are talking. A lot. And these four are definitely listening. They know that Hester needs to be stopped in a way that she cannot recover from, but they need help from both the living and the post-living to figure out how to best her. Every single puzzle piece that clicks into place has everyone scrambling to find the next one or to maybe add theories up now that we have another clue. And Hester? Well, she’s definitely building for something big. Something awful. I do have faith that she’ll be defeated, so I have to wait patiently for the time that we learn exactly how and what all comes after her, since it won’t just be Sonya and company. I’d bet that so many others are ready for her end also, and I can’t wait to see how it all plays out!
Nora Roberts continues to enchant the reader in THE MIRROR, Book two of The Lost Brides Trilogy. The series must be read in order as each book builds on the last and ends with a cliffhanger. Sigh, I have difficult relationship with cliffhangers since I hate the abrupt ending but love the suspense and anticipation they leave behind. With the third book not being released until possibly Fall of 2025, the wait will be tough. The story began in INHERITANCE with an uncle she never heard of leaving graphic artist Sonya MacTavish a house on the coast of Maine. At a turning point in her personal and professional life, she relocates to haunted Lost Bride Manor that holds it's share of tragedy and joy. Sonya starts her new business and finds a relationship with lawyer, Oliver Doyle III (Trey) and his family. As with all other Nora Roberts books, you fall in love with the characters, scenery, and history while she skillfully draws you into believing in the unbelievable. I'm grateful to Net Galley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. When can I get my hands on the, as yet unnamed, third book?
Nora Roberts has a way of making you know the characters in her stories so that you rejoice when they’re happy and saddened when something goes wrong. This story has romance, family and a bad character along with all the good. A must read.
Loved it as much as the first book in the series. It will seem like forever until the third book is released!
More secrets are revealed and more things are left unanswered with this second installment in the trilogy. Sonya and Cleo are becoming stronger in the mansion as things get wilder, but with each bride's story things are clicking in place. This is a book filled with intrigue and mishaps but at the same time the readers are left with a sense of peace and love. I cannot wait to see where the last book takes us. Good vs. Evil has never been so entertaining.
I went back and reread Inheritance before I read this one and I'm glad I did. The Mirror picks up exactly where Inheritance left off. I admit being trepidatious that Owen and Sonya would stay in the Mirror for the whole book. Let me reassure you that is not the case. Sonya and Owen come back fairly quickly.
There is a lot of description of how Sonya and Cleo make the Manor their home. Sonya and Trey's relationship deepens. Owen and Cleo's flirtation continues. Lots of things happen to move the story about the Lost Brides along.
I still love Clover and her music. I created a playlist on Spotify for the songs because most I knew, but there were some that I didn't know. There are well over 95 songs mentioned in the book. Talk about eclectic tastes.
The story does leave on a cliffhanger once again so be prepared. Well worth the wait to read. Can't wait for the final installment. Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Publishing Group for the eARC.
After reading the first book in this trilogy I was hooked ! So after seeing it available as a read now I eagerly downloaded it and literally read it as fast as possible . This series is by far some of Nora Robert’s best work . If I could give more than 5 stars I would ! I cannot wait for the third book to come out .
As the second book in the trilogy, The Mirror takes us farther into the haunted happenings in the Lost Bride Manor that Sonia McTavish has inherited from her uncle. As Sonia and her best friend Cleo make the mansion more their home and learn more of the history of what happened to the new brides, they are more determined than ever to break the curse of Hester Dobbs, the evil force in the manor. A book you can put down and an absolute pleasure to read. Once again Nora Robert's has not disappointed.
This book jumped ahead of my TBR as I was too impatient to wait. I LOVED it! Sonya and Cleo are settling into the Poole mansion and making friends with all the spirits (except for the one evil one). Trey has become very important in Sonya's life and Owen is patiently waiting on Cleo. More and more of the brides appear (or their portraits) but they can't be saved. They have not figured out how to get to the wedding rings, which the witch has in her possession. They believe they need to recover those to break the curse. Lots of drama, of course, and romance happens here. Hester Dobbs continues to haunt the mansion, but the 4 of them try their best to ignore her. Sonya is working on her new business and trying for a big account that her old company is also vying for. Her ex-fiance is scum and tries to spook her into ruining her presentation. It doesn't work, but he tries. I love how Trey and Owen support the women and help them find answers about the mansion.
It's a wonderful 2nd chapter and I will impatiently wait the the final installment
I got this book from NetGalley and am voluntarilly leaving a review
