Thank you for the Advance read copy! Two needles, many knits is a great book for the beginner. The book shows how to come up with a supplies list. It is easily understood, and someone with no understanding of knitting can pick it up and learn the skills. The pictures correspond with patterns. I really enjoyed the patterns despite the difficulty of the pattern it is able to be read. The pictures are colorful. The glossary explains the abbreviations and how to complete the patterns. It explains how to read the yarn label. I will be purchasing a copy of the book when it becomes available.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and really wish it was available when I started knitting. I am a self a taught knitter (aside from three weeks' instruction as a Blue Bird at age 7 - more then a few years ago). Knitting terms were well written and explained. The three sections of patterns at varying levels is a great introduction to knitting, allowing one's confidence to grow as projects fly off the needles. Thank you, NetGalley, for providing this advance copy.
Not a bad beginners knitting pattern book, some of the photos did feel a bit stock. Could have a bit better photos of the patterns and the steps.
Two Needles, Many Knits is a knitting book for beginners that teaches the very fundamentals of pattern reading, yarn selections, and basic stitches, then builds on that knowledge to offer projects that combine the skills. What sets it apart from many other introductory books is that it presents more advanced skills like cable knitting and knitting in the round and also demonstrates both continental and English knitting. This makes it a useful reference, even for more experienced knitters. Additionally, the projects are thoughtfully designed and attractive, and written clearly enough for beginners but with enough interest for intermediate knitters. Thank you to Callisto Publishing and NetGalley for digital review copy.
This is a solid, basic knitting book. Brand new knitters will learn skills and stitches as they progress through the patterns as each pattern builds on the one before in an organic fashion. The patterns are fairly basic, but experienced knitters may find variations of old favorites to try out. (There’s a lovely sweater pattern I’m saving for later!) Clear instructions and pictures make this a good addition to your knitting library.
I would recommend this to anyone who wants to learn to knit or anyone who is looking for patterns.
For beginners
The book is made for beginner knitters. it has the instruction section about the yarn, needles and knitting lessons in the first part, and a few simple projects to knit. It shows both English and Continental instructions, but it is hard for me to judge if they are any good because I already know how to knit. The projects seem quite simple, starting with a little dishcloth, but there are also a sweater and a shawl later in the book. They use Berocco yarns throughout, so probably sponsored by Berocco? I am not sure.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley
Extremely informative for beginners in knitting. Easy to read. Simple to follow. Highly recommend for beginners and seasoned knitters.
Two Needles, Many Knits is a fantastic tutorial on knitting. It covers all the basics and would be great for new knitters, or those knitting again after some time. Overall a great book. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced copy.
Boy oh boy am I glad that I got this book, knitting has never been easier!
I used to knit probably almost 15yrs ago and the knowledge felt like it was long lost. I just recently tried to pick the hobby up again and so I went to the craft store for all of the supplies and I picked up a couple “Learn how to Knit” books from there as well, and I’ll be honest, I almost returned them. I just could not get what was happening, everything from the descriptions to the illustrations were confusing, and there was only so much I could do with YouTube.
And then I discovered “Two Needles, Many Knits”, and it was like finally being able to understand algebra, IT WAS SO MUCH EASIER. From the beginning to end I felt like the Author did a wonderful job of both putting everything in as simple of terms as possible but also doing a really great job of showing you with the illustrations as well. I was able to fully knit a washcloth in UNDER 2 HOURS, the very first project that I have completed since relearning how to knit! 5 ⭐️’s!
Thank you so much to the Author Qualyn Stark, I would have had such a difficult time trying to do this without your work!
Big thank you to Callisto Publishing and NetGalley for my free ebook copy of “Two Needles, Many Knits”
I received this advance review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Two Needles, Many Knits is a comprehensive tutorial book with patterns for knitting a number of projects including clothing, accessories and soft furnishings written and curated by Quayln Stark. Due out 3rd Sept 2024 from Callisto, it'll be 152 pages and will be available in paperback and ebook formats.
This new collection delivers precisely as promised on the cover: a collection of up-to-date, attractive, beginner to intermediate accessible projects that readers will *want* to create. It includes a basic learn to knit tutorial guide, followed by the patterns. They're a varied lot and they're divided into three groups by difficulty: level 1-3.
Patterns contain a description, materials list with yarns notions and supplies needed, followed by step by step instructions. Written directions are clear and easy to understand. Each pattern is also accompanied by one or more color photos.
Four stars. Nothing absolutely ground-breaking here.. but the projects are all simple enough for beginners, with clear directions, attractive finishing, and nice color choices. Working through some of these projects will give new knitters the skills and confidence they need to move to the next level.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
I found this to be a great book for beginners and those of us, like me, that need a refresher course. I liked that Continental and English style knitting were both explained. I learned English style from my mom long ago. Now I plan to teach myself Continental style also. Thank you to NetGalley and Callisto for the chance to read this book so that I could give my honest review.
Wow, this is just the most perfect beginner knitting book! I love how the instructions at the start of the book progress slowly from the basics of choosing pattern/yarn to various stitch types. Though I've been knitting for decades (off & on), there are times when I'd make use of a book like this to do a particular technique I've not done in awhile. And the instructions for each technique are so clear and the photo illustrations make it so easy to follow, even down to the choice of a bright yellow yarn for the samples. That makes it super-easy to see the stitches. Not all instructions think that carefully about how they stage their illustrations. This is great! And, the patterns are very nicely progressed from very simple (washcloth) to more advanced (sweater). I found a few that I'd definitely try.
I really can't find anything wrong with this book. I'd highly recommend it and would definitely buy it myself! Thank you to NetGalley and Callisto Publishing for providing an advance review copy of this book. My opinions are my own.
Great for beginning knitters, or ones who haven't pick up their needles for a few years and need a refresher.
The first half of the book explains the basics of knitting and the different techniques, while the 2nd half is a collection of beginner friendly patterns that build upon skills into harder patterns as you go through the book. I loved the cute patterns, and bright colors, as well as the instructions that were clear and none of the patterns had overly hard to understand abbreviations. I am not a particularly skilled knitter, but I can pick out a basic pattern pretty well and do it justice. And I found that these patterns were perfect for that, and a wonderful collection of lovely patterns that were cute, but not overly intimidating.
Again great for the casual knitter, beginners, or people that need a refresher!
I thought this was a good book especially for beginning knitters. Even as someone who has been knitting for a while, I found this book to be useful. I especially found the guides on yearn material and yarn weights helpful. The first part really has all the information you need to beginning knitting. The patterns were my favorite part. I thought there was a great assortment of different patterns. It was particularly helpful that the patterns were arranged by difficulty. I would definitely recommend this book especially to beginner knitters.
When I was young, my mother taught me a lot of crafts, from knitting to sewing my own clothes. However, as an adult I gradually stopped doing them. I still retain some knowledge of sewing and can do simple tasks like hemming, but I have essentially forgotten everything about knitting. A few years back, I did take up crochet, then this month my mother-in-law passed me her knitting needles when she moved house, as she didn't plan to use them anymore. At that time, I saw this book available for review and decided to take a look.
Reading through the initial information, I did start to feel a little familiarity with the stitches, a hazy memory stirring. This book is aimed at complete beginners, so it offers careful explanations, accompanied by photo illustrations, of all aspects involved, from choosing a needle to casting on and off. I found the text clear and easy to understand, especially with aid from the pictures. After imparting basic knowledge, the book offers three levels of patterns. In Level 1 you commence with a simple square washcloth, but by Level 3 you are making jumpers. I particularly enjoyed how, with just this one text, you can go on a journey through the book, gradually increasing your skills. As such I am giving it five stars, and when I get a moment free, I will give knitting a go again. Highly recommended to those looking to learn how to knit.
Wow, what a fantastic knitting book! I am a seasoned knitter and was very impressed with the explanations/pictures and variety of projects presented. I love how each project adds another technique and consecutively takes you from dishcloth through sweater. I wish I had this book as I was learning to knit! Excellent book!
This book was beautiful!! It was absolutely filled with beautiful pictures, and the most creative way to knit. I loved the simple step by step way. I cant wait to gift this for friends.
A good starter book with good terminology and how to sections. I liked that both english and continental were touched on as this isn't always the case and some people have easier time with one or the other Only about 40% of the book is patterns They are good beginning projects to try new skills without just being squares!
