This book has nice information but for some reason it feels like it should rhyme. Especially because halfway through there’s a song. The illustrations are great. I just wish the writing was redone. There’s nothing about this book that makes it memorable to the children reading it besides the pictures.
A cute and straightforward book about going to the potty. No gross potty humor. I think this book is a winner.
This book is straight to the point! As a first time mom, potty training is right around the corner and I just purchased my little one’s first potty. So I’m trying to find the best books to help me and her learn what to do! I think this book really meets the objective and we will absolutely be using it for our potty book!
I great book for toddlers preparing for potty training. It would make a great gift also.
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC
My toddler and I sat together to read this book in preparation for her potty training journey. We both really liked it and she actually stayed put the entire time to listen. Potty training children can be hard and I am grateful for books like these that help parents and caregivers! Thank you NetGalley and Allison Jandu!
Great book! This book will definitely help kids learn how to go to the potty, but it also helps parents/guardians because it gives them the perfect tool to make the transition from diapers to potties that much easier. The way this book is written is fitting for the intended audience, and it will allow information to get through better. Lastly, the illustrations were accurate to each tip, and the soft green/blue theme fit the book well.
Bravo!
This is my favorite potty training resource for kids. I love the message, illustrations, and simplicity of it. It is easy to understand and encouraging for kids to keep trying. I appreciate that the child is gender-neutral and can be used with any kid. Our family used the paperback copy with multiple children. The new board book edition coming out in September will be sturdier and able to withstand the abuse that toddler books endure, I'm sure. My only negative feedback is that the eARC of the new edition has been trimmed down substantially, I'm assuming to fit it all into a board book format. Most of the trimming didn't make a difference to me, but I really missed the page that says, "when you feel a rumble in your tummy, or you need to squat or squirm, that's how you know it's time to go." This was such a great instruction for what it means to "listen to your body," and was perhaps the most helpful for my kids. Other than that, again, this is a wonderful resource. I hope that the word continues to get out about this book and becomes the children's potty training classic it deserves to be.
Thanks to NetGalley, the author, and publisher for the digital ARC.
Positives:
- gender neutral narrative with supportive language around accidents
- promotes listening to one's body
- encourages singing, reading, and playing while using the potty (also includes a potty song)
- illustrations include hand washing and different toileting options
Negatives:
- not a fan of potty books including "big kid" phrases
Toddlers could benefit from having access to this book in their restroom's potty book stash.
A very cute book with lovely illustrations. It teaches a toddler everything they need to know about using the potty, covering each step involved and also shows the option of using a toilet seat attachment as well as a traditional potty. I liked the positive language that is used and the way the book speaks directly to the child. My two year old liked the pictures of the giraffe sitting on the potty!
Thank you to NetGalley/the author/publisher for the eARC.
