Let me just start with I loved How to Handle a Highlander by Mary Wine. I don’t think I even turned off my nook before I was posting on Facebook to friends that they need to read this one. It is book #6 in the series and I’ve only read #5 (The Trouble With Highlanders) before it. This story picks up after but it can totally be read as a standalone story.

How to Handle a Highlander features Gahan Sutherland the bastard son to Laird Sutherland but he isn’t treated like a bastard at all. His half brother Norris, the true heir, and his father treat him as equals. I love that he is as important to his father as Norris. Reeling from the attempted murder on his father by the Frazer clan, Gahan is out spying on the Frazers when he notices they are headed out. Crazed Bari Frazer has hatched a plan to marry off his half-sister Moira to old man Laird Matheson in an attempt to form an alliance and then attack the Sutherlands. Frazer hates the Sutherlands for killing his sister Sandra and is set on revenge.

Moira knows her duty and is willing to help her clan because she believes her brother is mad. Repulsed by Laird Matheson she has no choice to go through with the wedding but she meets Gahan and begins to realize there could be so much more. She has no choice but to do her duty, but it doesn’t stop Gahan from meeting Moira in dark hallways and showing her what true passion could be like. Gahan proves to be a passionate man and is doing things he’d never do because he can’t get Moira out of his mind! All of the secondary characters made the story from the Sutherland family to Gahan’s other half-brother Cam.

I have decided Moira is my favorite character. As much as she is repulsed by her choices she is doing what she needs to for her clan, but she is still very passionate. When she and Gahan are together they are hot! The sex scenes are smokin’. I liked the storyline because while Bair Frazer has his own revenge plan, Laird Matheson also has a plan and he’s using Moira to take over the Frazer lands. The story was exciting. I loved the characters, the scenery plus the dynamics of living in that era.

There are so many potential characters for the next story in the series. Hopefully Saer MacLeod will be next although Cam could be great as well as Kael Grant.
