Well then. This book is Hella hard to get into. The characters supposedly have in dept back grounds but feel very 2d. Two if the characters aren't even likable in the slightest. And nit a single thing in 50 pages makes me want to keep reading.

I unfortunately found that this book and writing just weren't for me, so I have to give it one star and mark it as a DNF. This doesn't mean I think the book is bad, just not something I enjoyed reading at this point in time.
This book truly caught me off guard. Having never heard of this author before, I truly went in blind. Wow. What a journey! I need book two right now!
Aileen Henderson lives a normal life, with a mysterious past. That is, until she dies and wakes up to find she has become a Vampire. Aileen vows to get revenge on Ragnor Rayne, the monster who turned her into a Vampire.
I really enjoyed this. The plot is like nothing I have ever read before. The character development for Aileen was done so well. I also really enjoyed the angst and tension between Aileen and Ragnor.
The underlying mystery regarding Aileen's past kept me hooked. I mean, I couldn't put the book down! Genuinely.

This story had the perfect blend of romance, supernatural elements and suspense. The cliffhanger was very unexpected for me and I'm eager to read book two.
Cloak of the Vampire was a captivating read with enemies to lovers and dark academia vibes. It was a little slow at the beginning, but offers the reader just enough info to question what will happen next. I enjoyed the plot and the way I never knew what was going to happen next. The relationship between Aileen and Ragnor was an interesting slow burn. They were fighting tooth and nail at the beginning, in true enemies to lovers fashion. Their undeniable chemistry ended up winning and throughout the second half of the book we see them evolving into a new situationship. The twist of events throughout the end of the book really had me in a choke hold, and I was left reaching for more at the end of the book. I canโt wait to see how the next book unfolds.
This book is such an interesting take on Vampire Romance!
This book focuses on Aileen, and her journey as she becomes a vampire. In this reality, vampires are turned and there are even humans on a waitlist to be turned. She is turned against her consent, or knowledge by Lord Ragnor Rayne, who is a high ranking royal Vampire.
We follow her story as she is struggling to adapt to this new way of life and find answers for as to why she was turned. She begins a budding romance with Ragnor, whom turned her. There are many plot layers to this book. Aileen knows some of the vampires she meets after she is turned, leaving her vulnerable to Ragnor learning her past. So many questions that have yet to be answered.
This book ends on cliffhanger, leaving you wondering what is in store for Aileen & Ragnor next! There is romance, suspense, and plot for days. Thank you to Net Galley and the Author Agency for the early copy!
Fascinating is all I can say! Beware it is a cliff hanger! When Aileen follows a friend into a dark alley, she is sent on a journey that she could never imagine. She was turned into a vampire but not just any vampire but a common vampire.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. Thank you for allowing me to review
Thank you for the ARC copy from Netgalley to review.
I love the beginning of a new paranormal/fantasy series. I love good world building and setting the stage. Aileen and Ragnor were great characters and I canโt wait to see what Book 2 holds for this series. I feel like the back story was just starting to build and give more details towards the middle to end of this first book. The tour of the different vampire houses was such an entertaining part of the story and the endingโฆ๐ฉ๐ณ
I really thought this was going to be another cheesy vampire romance but boy was I wrong. I can't imagine how much research went into writing this book, as it was so complex but not confusing. I've never wanted book 2 of a series as much as I want this one. Prepared to sell my left kidney for the next book but I think I'll just wait lol. Aileen's story is captivating and Ive never come across a book about vampires such as this one that held my attention as much as this one has. The cover did nothing to pique my interest that ,icy but I thought ooo vampires. I love vampires. But it was so much more. Sapir has such a way with words that captivate the mind and have you focused on nothing else but the story. Eagerly awaiting book 2.
This was a little hard for me to get into at first but then it picked up. It did have an interesting plot. There was good world building. Lots of secrets were revealed. Overall it was a good read and I'm interested to know what happens in the next book especially after that cliffy.
I'm really intrigued by the magic system within the vampires and certainly interested in the "religion" that the main character seems to be a part of, but highly disappointed in the lack of it that we did get to see.
I think most of my issues with this book stem from the main character. She couldn't decide if she wanted to be some sort of cold bad ass that can handle on her own, or she was a whiny little girl who couldn't stand on her own two feet. Every time I started to like her for standing up for herself she turned into a sniveling baby and made ridiculous choices. Hopefully in the next book she'll have grown a spine.
This was an intriguing take on vampire romance and I was immediately sucked (no pun intended) into the world and lore of this book. Aileen is such a strong and fierce FMC and her relationship and dynamics with Ragnar, the vampire who turned her, were my favorite parts of the book. The lore and the academia setting were really great and unexpected and the enemies to lovers trope that the two main characters exhibit was amazing. Would highly recommend this if you enjoy PNR, mystery and enemies to lovers tropes.
Often, with the start of a new series, one can expect a lot of world-building, character development, and a plot that will slowly unveil itself through the length of the story. And this is what I experienced reading book 1 of โCloak of A Vampire.โ
Aileen is thrown into a new world after being turned into a vampire. And itโs not an easy one. She is in a specialized training academy where she needs to compete with the other vampires in an โAuctionโ; however, she runs into people from her past who know more about her than she would like. All the while, she seeks revenge on the one who turned her into a vampire, Lord Ragnor himself.
Lord Ragnor and Aileen have chemistry, and that chemistry runs very hot. โCloak of A Vampireโ is a slow burn for spice and action. However, I found the plot original and entertaining and look forward to Book 2.
Five freaking stars! And that ending!!!! I knew it would be a cliffhanger, but didn't expect that. I absolutely cannot wait for book two!
Very similar to other "firsts in series" that I've read, there is a lot of set-up and world building in Cloak of the Vampire. Don't let that fool you though. The last third of the book is packed with action and will leave you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens with The Auction.
Aileen was an interesting character. She has a tough, impenetrable exterior but inside is still sifting through the traumas of her childhood and is incredibly vulnerable. When she meets Ragnor Rayne, vampire lord extraordinaire, sparks fly and she hates him as much as her body wants him. If all things spice and "enemies to less-enemies-than-before" is your jam then I highly recommend checking this out.
There were dual POV chapters, which I liked, but I do think we could have heard more from Ragnor's side. I am hopeful for a balanced POV in book two.
Thank you to NetGalley, Montlake, Sapir A. Englard and The Author Agency for an early copy. These are my honest thoughts.
It's release day & I finished this baby last night!
What an absolute WILD ride of a first book. There is so much that happened towards the end I am still in shock and confusion because I need answers right now. ๐ญ I am not okay.
Holy moly. Aileen's past? We only barely scratch the surface of it and I'm still just in shock. That girl has been through the ringer and I feel so bad for her. She's so closed off because of what happened & so she keeps two very surface level "friends" & is barely scraping by but, in her need to protect other women she ends up in a bad situation. She wakes up being told she's now a vampire & has no control over her life once again. I loved the vampire society in this & how it's a different take from what I've read on other vampires. And the betrayals? Jesus this girl cannot catch a break. She thinks she's a monster cause of her father but, she still has this need to protect others & she gets walked all over for it.
I did have some issues with her jumping into bed with Ragnor even when he'd treat her like crap. Girl even would be like "this is a bad idea" then do it anyways & it was irritating. She HAS a backbone so I was floored how she was like "what backbone?" when it came to him. I'm on the fence about how I feel about him. He only get a few POV chapters of him - not enough to see his motivations or who he is/why he is the way he is. And I hope next book we get more of an idea about him & he steps up. He has so much potential I think, for me to adore him he's just gotta give me more! ๐
There is just so much happening in this story & I really enjoyed the world building, the secrets & mysteries that are slowly being revealed. Can't wait to find them all out!

3.5 stars
This was surprising.
I struggled to start with and almost DNF at about 16% because nothing made sense and the words โnoobโ and โnewbieโ were used soooo much it was driving me insane. But I put it down and came back to it and Iโm glad I did. Once I got to about 20% I couldnโt stop reading.
The premise is like a school to learn how to be a Vampire but youโre in leagues. The secrets and betrayal really hooked me.
There were some tense moments and also some heartbreaking ones that actually brought a tear to my eye.
I still have a lot of questions though as the ending was left on a major cliffhanger. I will say donโt give up on this because once you get past those first few chapters, the writing improves and the plot does pick up!
Thank you to the Author Agency for my copy.
I ultimately had to stop reading this book, because the story felt a little immature (like a wattpad romance). I expected more from the main character, Aileen, but she read like a Mary Sue. I would have enjoyed this book more if I were still in my Twilight era.
Cloak of the Vampire by Sapir A. Englard was definitely a good story.
The world building was done perfectly.
The characters were extremely well developed.
This book was fun and worth the read.
Thank You NetGalley and Montlake for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!
I started this story without knowing what to expect. All I knew was that it was a spicy romance
about vampires. And this book surprised me in some aspects.
Aileen lives under a changed identity, all we know about her past is that it was traumatic and bloody. And by accident, she is turned into a vampire by one of the Lords, Ragnor, and being sent to a three-month course preparing for life in the vampire League.
The author plays with what we know about vampires and transforms it into myths. And the idea itself suited me very well. It's clear that the first volume is an introduction to something deeper. I was surprised by the course and academic vibe, I didn't expect it at all (and this is one of those elements that I consider good but a bit too long).
There are also some clues of a much larger and stronger plot here, related to the past of Aileen and (probably) Ragnor, which the author will certainly develop in the sequel, and it looks really good.
The chemistry between Ragnor and Aileen was sparkling. Enemies to lovers trope refers to several aspects of their relationship, so maybe it's not entirely typical but still have the elements of that trope. However I expected a darker love story, it was supposed to be dark and very spicy, but the spicy scenes between them were quite few and rather light. It was good but maybe I expected too much.
I'm impressed by how many bad people/vampires Aileen meets in her life and how much unpleasantness she has experienced over the last 20+ years. The author has a lot of potential here for the heroine's development, especially mental and I'm curious about what direction certain relationships will take.
It was really smooth read and I had no difficulty understanding the laws that rules the world. There was also a lot of emotion, especially considering how much injustice Aileen suffers, and the ending left me with a lot of anger (that's a plus).
Cloak of the Vampire is not a perfect novel, but you can tell that it is an introduction to the series and I feel that the next volumes will be even better.
