Often, with the start of a new series, one can expect a lot of world-building, character development, and a plot that will slowly unveil itself through the length of the story. And this is what I experienced reading book 1 of “Cloak of A Vampire.”

Aileen is thrown into a new world after being turned into a vampire. And it’s not an easy one. She is in a specialized training academy where she needs to compete with the other vampires in an “Auction”; however, she runs into people from her past who know more about her than she would like. All the while, she seeks revenge on the one who turned her into a vampire, Lord Ragnor himself.

Lord Ragnor and Aileen have chemistry, and that chemistry runs very hot. “Cloak of A Vampire” is a slow burn for spice and action. However, I found the plot original and entertaining and look forward to Book 2.

Five freaking stars! And that ending!!!! I knew it would be a cliffhanger, but didn't expect that. I absolutely cannot wait for book two!

Very similar to other "firsts in series" that I've read, there is a lot of set-up and world building in Cloak of the Vampire. Don't let that fool you though. The last third of the book is packed with action and will leave you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens with The Auction.

Aileen was an interesting character. She has a tough, impenetrable exterior but inside is still sifting through the traumas of her childhood and is incredibly vulnerable. When she meets Ragnor Rayne, vampire lord extraordinaire, sparks fly and she hates him as much as her body wants him. If all things spice and "enemies to less-enemies-than-before" is your jam then I highly recommend checking this out.

There were dual POV chapters, which I liked, but I do think we could have heard more from Ragnor's side. I am hopeful for a balanced POV in book two.

Thank you to NetGalley, Montlake, Sapir A. Englard and The Author Agency for an early copy. These are my honest thoughts.

It's release day & I finished this baby last night!

What an absolute WILD ride of a first book. There is so much that happened towards the end I am still in shock and confusion because I need answers right now. 😭 I am not okay.

Holy moly. Aileen's past? We only barely scratch the surface of it and I'm still just in shock. That girl has been through the ringer and I feel so bad for her. She's so closed off because of what happened & so she keeps two very surface level "friends" & is barely scraping by but, in her need to protect other women she ends up in a bad situation. She wakes up being told she's now a vampire & has no control over her life once again. I loved the vampire society in this & how it's a different take from what I've read on other vampires. And the betrayals? Jesus this girl cannot catch a break. She thinks she's a monster cause of her father but, she still has this need to protect others & she gets walked all over for it.

I did have some issues with her jumping into bed with Ragnor even when he'd treat her like crap. Girl even would be like "this is a bad idea" then do it anyways & it was irritating. She HAS a backbone so I was floored how she was like "what backbone?" when it came to him. I'm on the fence about how I feel about him. He only get a few POV chapters of him - not enough to see his motivations or who he is/why he is the way he is. And I hope next book we get more of an idea about him & he steps up. He has so much potential I think, for me to adore him he's just gotta give me more! 😂

There is just so much happening in this story & I really enjoyed the world building, the secrets & mysteries that are slowly being revealed. Can't wait to find them all out!

Thanks to Netgalley, Saphir & The Author Agency for letting me review this early. ❤️

This was surprising.

I struggled to start with and almost DNF at about 16% because nothing made sense and the words “noob” and “newbie” were used soooo much it was driving me insane. But I put it down and came back to it and I’m glad I did. Once I got to about 20% I couldn’t stop reading.

The premise is like a school to learn how to be a Vampire but you’re in leagues. The secrets and betrayal really hooked me.

There were some tense moments and also some heartbreaking ones that actually brought a tear to my eye.

I still have a lot of questions though as the ending was left on a major cliffhanger. I will say don’t give up on this because once you get past those first few chapters, the writing improves and the plot does pick up!

Thank you to the Author Agency for my copy.

I ultimately had to stop reading this book, because the story felt a little immature (like a wattpad romance). I expected more from the main character, Aileen, but she read like a Mary Sue. I would have enjoyed this book more if I were still in my Twilight era.

Cloak of the Vampire by Sapir A. Englard was definitely a good story.
The world building was done perfectly.
The characters were extremely well developed.
This book was fun and worth the read.

Thank You NetGalley and Montlake for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!

I started this story without knowing what to expect. All I knew was that it was a spicy romance
about vampires. And this book surprised me in some aspects.

Aileen lives under a changed identity, all we know about her past is that it was traumatic and bloody. And by accident, she is turned into a vampire by one of the Lords, Ragnor, and being sent to a three-month course preparing for life in the vampire League.

The author plays with what we know about vampires and transforms it into myths. And the idea itself suited me very well. It's clear that the first volume is an introduction to something deeper. I was surprised by the course and academic vibe, I didn't expect it at all (and this is one of those elements that I consider good but a bit too long).

There are also some clues of a much larger and stronger plot here, related to the past of Aileen and (probably) Ragnor, which the author will certainly develop in the sequel, and it looks really good.

The chemistry between Ragnor and Aileen was sparkling. Enemies to lovers trope refers to several aspects of their relationship, so maybe it's not entirely typical but still have the elements of that trope. However I expected a darker love story, it was supposed to be dark and very spicy, but the spicy scenes between them were quite few and rather light. It was good but maybe I expected too much.

I'm impressed by how many bad people/vampires Aileen meets in her life and how much unpleasantness she has experienced over the last 20+ years. The author has a lot of potential here for the heroine's development, especially mental and I'm curious about what direction certain relationships will take.

It was really smooth read and I had no difficulty understanding the laws that rules the world. There was also a lot of emotion, especially considering how much injustice Aileen suffers, and the ending left me with a lot of anger (that's a plus).

Cloak of the Vampire is not a perfect novel, but you can tell that it is an introduction to the series and I feel that the next volumes will be even better.

I absolutely love Sapir Englard's writing from Millennium Wolves and this book did NOT disappoint! I was so immersed in the world and never wanted to leave. Thank you netgalley for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The plot heavily carried this book for me. I, personally, was not a fan of the word choices to describe the more personal scenes and also reading "noob" on every other page didn't help either. Would still read the next book because I want to continue to see the plot grow.

This is the first book of a new series and I could not put it down. It is different than other vampire books. Communities are underground and You are put on a list for years until you are turned. But Aileen was turned on accident and she had no idea that Vampires existed. This is set in New Orleans and the town is run by Lord Ragnor and there are other towns where Lords live and more vampires live. When you are turned you live and learn with just a small handful of people. All the rules and training. You are asked about your talents and they are used for auction.
I really liked the characters and yes a few times I wanted to smack them but again this vampire story was different than others.
Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake for the ARC to review.

The beginning of the book was a tad slow but then all of a sudden I was hooked. This was a different than previous vampire books I’ve read and I loved it. I really enjoyed the world building and the intriguing plot. I really loved how the vampire world is intertwined with academia. I felt for Aileen because she really had horrible friends. Then being thrown into a new life she didn’t ask for and had to quickly adapt to. The tension and chemistry between Aileen and Ragnor is 🔥🔥. I went from almost DNFing to ready for the second book because I can’t wait to know what happens next. I recommend!

3.5 STARS

Who knew books can have dual personalities too because this book, right here, managed to go from silly and inconsistent to intense and unputdownable..just like that! Cloak of the Vampire by Sapir A. Englard did one h3ll of U turn and now I cannot wait for the next installment. This vampire romance is a mix of academy, enemies to lovers and PNR drama thrown together and that can be a bit disorienting a bit but the author managed to get everything together at the end. Ragnor and Aileen definitely have that scorching hot forbidden connection and by the time the cliffhanger came..I was completely invested in it

Aileen Henderson is an ordinary human now. She has a very complex and dark past that she buried meticulously. And her ordinary existence is everything. Then she is imprinted against her consent by vampire lord Ragnor Rayne while trying to save her friend Cassidy and find herself in the strange world of vampire leagues where the newly turned vampires are trained and auctioned off to different Vampire lords. Aileen is lost and angry and sad and Ragnor is confused about it too...but they do feel the attraction.

The first 10-15% can be a bit cringe-y. The whole concept of making new vampires by imprinting and then the academy was full of inconsistency and the vibe wasn't matching my expectations at all. Ragnor was all brooding and sharp and sharp and edgy but why a powerful lord will make mistake of turning someone against rule? Aileen wasn't getting my sympathy either. But slowly I get to know more of her story. She was an outcast in Outer world and here too..Ragnor was trying to show that she is nothing. She faced her ex boyfriend and useless best friend here and she is truly alone. She kept on fighting though when she didn't have any idea what's in future. She is lost and lonely and scared and while she thought Ragnor has a space for her in his heart..because of their chemistry but the auction broke her heart. She had to take help of the ugly past she tried hard to evade. The author managed to put heartbreak and angst there at the end. And I truly felt heartache for Aileen.

Aileen had a dark past & seeks the thrill of danger. She saved her “best friend” Cassidy from an abusive relationship & now is supportive in this “friend’s” endeavors, even though she acts aloof & like she wants nothing to do with Aileen. Cassidy is the lead singer in a band and one night at her show there’s a strange man there & when Aileen sees him in a dangerous situation with Cassidy, she finds herself attacked by his immortal kiss. She wakes up as a vampire in a place where she must now learn her new way of life & foster her special talent in order to perform at the vampire Auction, where the vampire lords will bid to buy the most talented. She vows to seek revenge on the vampire lord that turned her, but will she be able to do so when she feels so attracted to him?

This premise was such an interesting concept but not well executed in my opinion. I found myself very mad at how the main character was treated & allowed herself to be treated throughout the entire book. I kept thinking there was gonna be an “aha” or “yes finally!” moment, but it just didn’t happen. I was intrigued enough to want to read the next book just to see what happens & how everything plays out, but unfortunately i was a bit disappointed in this one from the start, in the middle & at the end. It was very much “WTF” the entire time.

I struggled with the beginning to get past the introductory chapters but afterwards, I had trouble putting the book down!
I wish there would have been more details about what happened in Aileen’s past simply because if her past is there all of it needs to be shared!
Accidental vampire that’s wanted by the sacred vampire and she ends up being wanted by some of the other sacred vampires due to how she is.

I can't wait to see where this goes! This has so many cool threads that you want to see unravel. There is vengeance and passion, and enemies to lovers. Political and league intrigue. It's like a puzzle, and gathering the pieces is half the fun.

DNF at Chapter 10.

Unfortunately this book could not hold my attention. The whole vampire underworld school set up just seemed a little too immature for what I normally go for. The writing itself wasn’t bad just not my cup of tea.

Thank you for the copy for my honest opinion.

This book was slightly confusing at first but I was drawn in. There is a lot of information but it didn't feel overwhelming.

Aileen is thrown into the world of vampires after receiving the Imprint without her consent. Once waking up she finds out that everyone else had signed up and most were on a waiting list to receive it. She feels as though she is being punished, but things aren't as they seem. Aileen has done a very good job of hiding her secrets, almost as much so as she hid herself.

I found myself really drawn into the story and the dynamic between Aileen, Ragnor Rayne, Logan, and Cassidy. Definitely a satisfying read and listen for me.

i did genuinely try with this book but every character was so insufferable. it has a really interesting premise but i think the execution needs a lot of polishing.

Aileen Henderson’s unassuming life conceals a dark past. Outside of work, she hides behind her larger-than-life best friend, Cassidy, whose constant need for attention suits Aileen—and her secrets—just fine.
Until the night Aileen dies.

A’s review:
Well. I have so many…questions? Like I’m confused. We get two different pov’s in this book. Please for the love of god tell me why one pov is in first person and the second one is written in third person? I was so confused when I started reading the male main characters pov wondering if the book was always in third person? Besides that, the way it was written felt like something that jumped straight out of wattpad 2012, but also the storyline was good enough to keep me curious to read the rest of the book? I’m probably going to read the second one when it comes out purely because I’m hoping to get my questions answered. Even though it is being hinted that the female mc has this big bad dark past, the author never truly delves into it besides a few glimpses, mostly at the end of the book, and I would’ve liked to know more about that, than having to wait IF it’ll get answered WHEN the second book comes out. Thanks to netgalley for the arc. :)
