Thank you NetGalley and author Sapir A. Englard for the copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

"Aileen Henderson’s unassuming life conceals a dark past. Outside of work, she hides behind her larger-than-life best friend, Cassidy, whose constant need for attention suits Aileen—and her secrets—just fine.

Until the night Aileen dies.

Awakening to a new world of brutality, bloodlust, and betrayal, Aileen plots revenge against Ragnor Rayne, the monster who cursed her with the Imprint. The demon who turned her into a vampire. The man whose eyes haunt her dreams.

She is going to make this vampire Lord regret the day he kissed her with the curse of immortality and made her his. If she can survive the Auction, and resist temptations of the flesh…"

I was drawn to it based on the description. It took me a little bit getting into it, but the more I read, the more I find it enjoyable.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Spice Level: 🌶️🌶️
Tropes: Vampires, enemies to lovers, secret societies

I was totally hooked by the cover of "Cloak of the Vampire" – I'm definitely the type who judges books by their covers. Sure, it took a bit to get going, and there was a ton of info to digest at first but once it got rolling, oh boy, did it pick up speed! This novel offers a refreshing twist on the vampire genre, and it was a great storyline with a few issues along the way.

So, we meet Aileen, who's basically just cruising through life until she gets turned into a vampire by Ragnor Rayne against her will. The narrative unfolds within what feels like a Hogwarts-like academy for freshly turned vampires. It may be dnf for others because the wriitng and general vibe does give wattpad and fanfinction vibes - but that being said, it was one of those quick and easy, fun reads if you are able to get past that.

If you're into Alyson Noel and Stephanie Meyer, you're probably going to enjoy it.

All you wanted was to be free but someone has taken choice away again. Aileen thought that she was free from her horrible childhood and that she could just be a nobody. But that all changes when she tries to help her friend. She wakes up as a vampire and she is so angry but will Raynor change her mind about her new life. To matter things worse the one person that she loved is also here and he hates her even more now. How will she find a way to escape? Raynor knew what he did was wrong but he couldn’t leave her there. But no matter how hard he tries she doesn’t let up. So they strike a deal to be lovers but that doesn’t change the fact that Aileen could be sold at the live auction.
Will he save her in time or will someone else leave her alone again?
A great read not for the faint hearted. Can’t wait for the next book as it is going to answer so many questions that I have about Aileen & her past.
Thank you Netgalley for the copy. This is my voluntary review.

3.5* Couldn't connect with the romance, but intriguing enough that I'm up for book 2.

Several things seem embellished about this book - 1) the female lead herself. We know there's some kind of deity connection in her past but we don't get to see her as a person, just as someone thinking with their libido. She's portrayed as having backbone and courage in the first few pages, but then the aforementioned kicks in and we dont get to see her personality. And just as the reveal comes, the book ends on a cliffhanger 2) the so-called friendship? Doesn't exist and neither the female lead nor the supposed friend seems bothered about it 3) the male lead? A pale version, no pun intended, of any number of vampire males from any number of vampire novels. BUT...there was potential.

I liked the world that the author was describing, so I think book 2 might be worth a read. I'm not sold on the romance, nor am I sold on people, which the made-vamps essentially still are, being sold at auction, again no puns intended, especially when some of the vampire clan leaders are autocrats and abusers.

Arc courtesy of Montlake and NetGalley, for my reading pleasure.

This book gets into the action within the first 5 chapters, which is nice. The world-building happens over time as you discover places the FMC has never been to before. A little more background so I would care more about what happens next would have been better in my opinion, but I can see why it was not done seeing what kind of relationship the FMC has with her friends.
The plot overall was good, the book was entertaining, although towards the end the back and forth between the FMC and her lover got a little annoying since it wasn’t going anywhere (in the sense of they didn’t get more angry/horny/*insert other feeling here* at each other, it felt a little stagnant.
I am a little confused about the FMC backstory: we learn about some of it but I didn’t understand all of it. There is mention of some gods and it feels like there’s a whole story there to dig into but it was barely touched on in this book. I feel like learning more about them during the book would have made the ending have more impact than it did.
Overall this was an entertaining read. The chapters are short and it reads like an adult wattpad fic. The spice is present but not the centre of attention. However it lacked some backstory about what I feel should be main elements of the book. This is a series but I don’t think I’ll be reading the rest of it.

This book was a very quick read. It was written like an adult wattpad story. I have very mixed feelings on this book and sadly more negative than positive. To start with the positive. I enjoyed the kitchen crew. I liked the way it was a back and forth between the fml and the ml. It was interesting seeing their views and how their sexual relationship led to other things. It was very entertaining and once I started the book I couldn’t stop. Now the negative. The characters all sucked at more than one point. The fml was very annoying at times and hard to understand. We weren’t actually told much about her past with her dad and what happened exactly. There was a lot of context clues to let us know what happened. I do wish her past was explained more. Also I wanted her past with her ex boyfriend explained more because of the hospital scene. I thought a lot of the writing was childish and cringy. The sex scenes were not the best written and some felt a little rushed. I think this book left me with a lot of questions. I hope is explained in book 2. I will be reading book 2 cause I do enjoy seeing if things change in the second book.

Thank you NetGalley and Sapir England for early access to this book in exchange for my honest review.

I’m so torn. I can see where the book was leading and it could be a great story of hardship, revival, and love. I personally felt road blocked by some of the writing choices. That’s not to say someone else would. Someone else who’s read this book could think I’m stupid. Always give a book a try.

I absolutely for some reason could not get past the word noob being used as an insult. The word just rubbed me in the worst kind of way. Some of the dialogue didn’t work for me either. A lot of the times it felt awkward and unrealistic. Which for fantasy it’s not always realistic talking about vampires, I get that but almost all interactions between characters felt…off.

The first 50 pages moves quick. Almost too quick. You’re enjoying bar nightlife trying to get to know these characters and all of a sudden you’re pulled somewhere else, while still having little to no idea about what’s going on. You have beatings, club rats, horrible mean girl behaviors, then pushed into new world.
I just felt lost when reading this book and my opinion is only for the first 100 pages because I did unfortunately DNF this book.

Again, just because I didn’t enjoy it doesn’t mean someone else wouldn’t. Always give a book a try. I loved the idea of this, and could see where it was going but just couldn’t get into it.

What a story!

This is just so good!
This story is a mix of Vampire Academy and Hogwarts sans the magicians, but all about vampires and a bit of magic. There's tension, fight, and spice. It really gets hot.
The writing is fluid and makes it easy to follow the story and the emotions going on. Most chapters are written from Aileens point of view and only a handful from the vampire Lord Ragnor. This gives me a better understanding of how Ragnor acts and how he reacts to certain things.
I like the storyline and the twists. It's not otherworldly, but I could relate to it.
The protagonists go through an evolution that I can only relate to a point.
Aileen went through so much, and apparently, she's so mature, but on the other hand, she's not. It's understandable, but on a view of interactions, I just couldn't follow her.
Ragnor in the other hand is that mature and still acts on certain matters out of line, but then I might understand him, if the little bites we get of him are connected to his past that we haven't jet known fully.
I do understand a view things better by reading both POVs, but there are simply too many open questions that need answers, but a second book is in progress, so I only need to wait for them.

*Conclusion*
It's a different kind of love story with vampires with a lot of emotions going on. It's hot (spicy scens included).

Title: Cloak of the Vampire By Sapir A. Englard

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Stars

I received this book in exchange for an honest review via Netgalley.

Aileen Henderson leads a quiet life hiding her dark past, finding solace in her vivacious best friend Cassidy. However, everything changes when Aileen dies and awakens to a world of brutality as a vampire.

Fueled by revenge against Ragnor Rayne, the vampire who cursed her, Aileen navigates a dangerous path seeking vengeance.

Amidst the temptations of the flesh and the perils of the Auction, Aileen is determined to make Ragnor regret the day he made her immortal.

Sapir A. Englard masterfully blends suspense, romance, and supernatural elements, ensuring readers remain captivated throughout. The world building was great and a little different from your regular vampire romances.

"Cloak of the Vampire" is the opening act of an interesting series that romantasy lovers will be sinking their teeth into! I know I will be!

Started slow for me, but I love all vampire stories. Found myself flying through the book and it’s not a terribly long story.

Full of dark secrets, enemies to lovers and dark romance. Very much look forward to where this story goes.

I do not recommend this book as it is much more graphic and misogynistic than I expected. I honestly could not make it past the first few chapters - did not want to invest anymore time in it than I did.

3 stars - a slow start that feels a tad ridiculous and perhaps even as a spoof transforms into an interesting story that I really got into. It take a while to get there, but the last few chapters do give the promise of something more. The writing is well done and engaging, I found myself almost compelled to finish reading. It's an easy OK read that perhaps needed more context - maybe if I read the other series by this author? But, I enjoyed it

First time with this Author and first ARC. Easy to read, great flow, The beginning was a lot of filler at times but passing that it’s a great vampire story. This is good for readers who likes vampire stories. The main characters had some great chemistry. Love their scenes together. Looking forward to reading more in the future!

This was such a fun and quick read! Looking forward to seeing what's next, I have so many questions and the author has set up a lot of potential for growth of characters and lore alike. Aileen was a complex female lead that I really liked. Eagerly awaiting the sequel!

Aileen Henderson is a young woman whose only ambition is simple: to maintain her freedom and keep herself safe. In an effort to put a treacherous and traumatic past behind her, she keeps her head down with her limited social circle and her simple, albeit unambitious, job. But when she tries to intervene during what seems like a dangerous encounter between her friend and a handsome stranger, everything changes, and Aileen's life is thrown into chaos. Everything she has ever believed is turned on its head as she attempts to navigate the new realities of her life as a newly turned vampire, including the strange pull she feels toward the one who turned her.

I found "Cloak of the Vampire" intriguing and potent. A great deal of detail and backstory was provided for Aileen, and who she was made sense based on the exposition provided. Logan and Ragnor, as well, were layered and compelling, particularly once aspects of their history were peeled back.

While I found this story a little tough to get into, once I did, I was invested in Aileen's journey. Some of the conversations felt a little awkward - some dialogue didn't flow quite naturally for me - but I cared about uncovering her past and understanding what was important to her. My biggest criticism apart from some of the dialogue not always feeling quite believable is perhaps that there were elements that reminded me a little too strongly of other books, but that said, enough was different about each that it didn't entirely put me off of the story at large.

Overall, this is an engrossing contemporary vampire story with what I would consider a high level of spice and a few not to be overlooked trigger warnings. Both main characters are, in my opinion, somewhat morally gray.

3.5/5 stars

This book starts off strong in the prologue and only continues to increase its pull of attention through the entirety of it. Very well written and fun to read but while making points on various sensitive topics which are all handled very skillfully and respectfully. This is a good book.

I enjoyed this story. I was sucked into the world that was created and thought it was an interesting concept. At first, I wasn't quite sure what to think of Aileen. She was a bit mysterious and her personality wasn't clicking for me. However, I liked her a bit more after she became a vampire and we got to learn more about her. I felt for Aileen and was rooting for her. Her so-called friends at the beginning of the book were terrible. I hope she finds some good friends in the next book or at least develops some more friendships. Speaking of the next book, this story ends on a cliffhanger. It’s not a terrible cliffhanger and doesn't end abruptly but it doesn’t tie up the story meaning there’s no HEA yet. It does include the prologue for the next book and does give a bit more background information. Which was to have after that ending.

There are some things in this story that can be pretty uncomfortable to read. I would recommend checking out the trigger warnings. There’s not anything written that is very graphic but this story does include sexual abuse of children, cutting, noncon, and physical abuse.

Overall, I thought this was an entertaining read. It's a story that by the end you will be begging for the second book.

Thank u netgalley for an advance Arc on this book

Unfortunately I had to DNF at 45%, I could not get into it and I didn't care about the characters + the love story doesn't feel real enough for me to want to follow....

This series (given the cliffhanger, I am assuming this is a series or at least a duology) has a lot of promise. While there was a little unevenness in the pacing, I was fascinated by the premise and blew through the book in a day, which says a lot about the overall arc. While I am not certain where the title of the book fits in, the FMCs backstory is mysterious and sad, the MMC is not who he seems to be, and the peripheral characters are unique in how they are molding the overall tale. The book is spicy which I appreciate, but I always look for an emotional connection the characters, which makes it even hotter. Due to the trauma in their pasts (as hinted at but not explicitly stated), that connection was missing for me in this book, but I hope the next book opens that up a lot more. On the whole, a solid first book in a series, and a world I will be revisiting to get answers to the lingering questions.

I didn't see the ending coming. I did however think Aileens woe is me attitude got a little repetitive. I'm looking forward to the second book to see where it takes us.
