DNF at 20%, the storyline sounded promising but at 20% little of anything has happened. I thought the characters would have more dimension at this point. A single returned DM is the only thing to happen so far, I couldn't continue.
My last five stars, and wow it's worth every one of them.
It's been a long time since I read a star/famous romance, much less with a curvy character so well written.
.
I am also very used to reading her sport romances, of which I am a big fan.
.
Olive and Jude were perfect for each other, and the premise of it being epistolary even through dm was what first attracted me. But I couldn't put it down until I reached the end and then I was left thinking and wishing that it was the first in a series because there are so many characters that I want to continue reading.
.
Jude is an actor like his parents and grandparents before him and also like his successful brother Jasper, but after taking some time he is ready to return with the great success he has been recording for the last few months but when the first interview comes out very bad and his agent determines that he needs his brother's help to rehabilitate his image, he ends up entering his dms and is instantly brought in by the person who seems to use his brother's dms as a personal log
.
Olive O'Brien has been writing small daily entries for some time, only instead of having a notebook she sends them to an actor she admires in the hope that he will never read them. Until suddenly she gets an answer and her world turns upside down. What seems incredible turns into a small friendship but Jude doesn't know how to get out of the lie and confess that he isn't Jasper without losing her.
.
I really liked that it is located in New York, and how both characters found themselves in the middle of a city so full of people running from one side to the other, the chemistry and banter in every dialogue was exquisite, not to mention that I love the Rafferty brothers and Annie, excellent characters.
.
Another wonderful book by Teagan Hunter that I will re read soon.
.
Thanks to Teagan Hunter and Montlake for give me a copy of this beautiful book in exchange for my honest and voluntary opinion
As a fan of Teagan Hunter, I knew I was going to enjoy this one.
Olive and Jude were great, and their banter had me laughing out loud and grinning. Not to mention, Jude is probably one of the sweetest MMCs I’ve read about in a while. Olive is also that strong independent woman I love reading about in books (add the fact she’s curvy and you’ve got my vote). I do fee, there could have been a bit more depth in the characters, but I liked them anyways.
I enjoyed the secondary characters and hope we will get more books revolving around them.
The third act breakup wasn’t my favorite (but if I’m being honest, I always have issues with them).
This book definitely makes celebrities seem more like normal humans who are relatable.
The banter in this book is absolutely amazing. I love how unique the story was and how being plus-sized was never a factor for Olive's success or love life. The MMC, Jude, is someone who you wouldn't expect to like in a book but end up falling in love with. This book was fast-paced and made me smile and laugh the entire way through. The conflict and resolution towards the end made it even better!
This was a sweet and funny read. Jude’s the epitome of a cinnamon roll character. He was seriously adorable. They were both a bit of a mess though.
The story was good and I enjoyed the other characters. Laughed out loud a few times. However, I found myself skimming some paragraphs and there was a bit more repetition than I would have liked. Repeated statements and such that I hurriedly read past to get on with the story.
Overall, I liked it.
The DM Diaries
Teagan Hunter
4☆
Synopsis:
Olive O’Brien is a plus-size influencer with half a million followers and big dreams. And she’s feeling the pressure to stand out while staying true to herself. To cope, Olive finds solace in an unexpected place: the DMs of Jasper Rafferty, the world’s hottest movie star, where she feels safe to share her hopes, fears, and secrets because it’s not like he’ll read them. Until he does. Kind of.
My Thoughts:
This was such a fun read. While Olive and Judes relationship was a bit of a whirlwind, Teagan’s writing and LOL banter had me thoroughly entertained. I love stories that involve anonymous penpals and this one did not disappoint.
What I enjoyed;
✨ Celebrity Romance
✨ Strangers To Lovers
✨ LOL Banter
✨ Curvy FMC
✨ Mrs. Hammish
If you’re in the mood for a cute celebrity romance the DM Diaries will hit the spot.
A huge thank you to Montlake and NetGalley for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review. So exciting to see Teagan getting traditionally published.
I didn’t hesitate to grab this book from Netgalley as soon as I spotted the author’s name. I didn’t bother reading the description or looking at the cover; I just snatched it. Although her hockey stories are my favorite, I’ve always enjoyed her creativity and writing skills, so I knew I would like this. Ohhh, but I didn’t just like it. I fell in love with Olive and Jude!
It was easy to connect with her, and I admired her bravery and strong sense of self. She’s real, feisty, and has built a fulfilling life in NYC. The DM Diary (when you find out what that is) is definitely a mistake, and the anticipation of how and when this thing blows up for her - cause I knew it would - kept me on the edge of my seat. Oh, but until it does, the banter and chemistry between Jude and Olive crackles with flirty, fun energy, practically jumping off the pages. All the characters are so likeable, and I loved how the siblings came together when things got messy.
This read captured my heart, and I cannot recommend it enough - it’s an absolute must-read. Once you’ve read this book, I urge you to explore all the other amazing books by this author. Worth your time, IMO.
I am happy to support this author and voluntarily leave my review.
The DM Diaries by Teagan Hunter is a fun, give you all the feels rom com with funny banter between the main characters. In this book we meet Olive and Jude. Olive is a plus size model/influencer and Jude is an actor who comes form Hollywood royalty. I liked the banter between the two and I liked the plot of the story. Olivia decides to keep a digital journal in the form of DMs to A-list actor Jasper Rafferty. Only his brother Jude Rafferty happens to read them and respond as Jasper. If this plot doesn't sound like a rom-com waiting to happen, I don't know what does.
I liked their connection between the main characters. Both of these characters want to be seen for who they really are and not the facade social media or the press portrays them as. Jude wants a real connection and not something fake or being wanted for your fame or money. Listening and responding to Olivia gave him the realness he was craving from someone. I love how Jude shows how much he cares for Olivia through his actions and not just his words. I like a strong FMC and Olivia was just that. She was a plus sized model who was killing it in the model and fashion world. Her weight was not a plot line and it was clear she was happy in her skin and was confident. Jude only enhanced her confidence and made her feel even more beautiful.
I enjoyed this book and think you will too! Read if you enjoy:
*modeling/fashion influencers
*celebrity romances
*banter between the main characters
*NYC setting
*strangers to lovers
*DMs
Thank you NetGalley and Montlake Publishing for letting me voluntarily read this book and give an honest review.
I absolutely LOVE this book! Olive and Jude are incredible characters and I love them to pieces. This was a bit different from other stories that Teagan Hunter has written, but it was FANTASTIC and still had all of the classic Teagan charm, wit, humor, and heart. From beginning to end I was just so invested in Olive and Jude’s stories, both together and separate. But when they were together…fireworks. Their chemistry was so just so real and authentic, they just truly understood and connected with one another, and it was beautiful. And their banter…top notch y’all, I was laughing so hard. I can’t say enough great things about this book, it was just simply - perfect.
So funny!!
This book was too funny - really. I loved everything about it and I can't wait to read more from this author. I did not LOVE the main guy but the female was jsut amazing!! And the tropes??
Easy to read, addictive and funny - a perfect romcom!
This was such a fun read! I have enjoyed other books by Teagan, but they were her hockey series, so it was a lot of fun to break out of the sports world for a book. Olive is a beautiful plus size model and influencer. As she is breaking into the spotlight finds solace in the DM’s of well-known actor Jasper Rafferty. What she doesn’t expect is to get answers. Jude Rafferty is stuck after an interview goes wrong and finds himself dealing with his older brothers’ social media. When he stumbles on Olive’s DMs they begin chatting. What starts as just enjoying the messages between each other, turns into so much more. But when the truth comes out, will Olive be okay with what she learns?
I really enjoyed Olive so much in this book. She tries hard to be out and safe in the world and being a model has a very specific brand she wants to portray. I love that she is honest and upfront with that and does everything she can to stay true to who she is. Jude, has been the younger brother of the famous Jasper. Being in his shadow is never easy but Jude is carefree and tries to show that he is serious about his job and loves his family. Growing up in the spotlight, Jude knows what to expect and has been raised with a thick skin. As he witnesses Olive try to wade her way through, learns that there is so much more to being an actor and a person. These two are great together as they really do balance the other out. Olive fits in so seamlessly with Jude’s family that it feels like she was always meant to be. I would like to thank Netgalley for the opportunity to read this amazing book.
Olivia and Jude had a cute meet cute moment. I did enjoy their relationship throughout the book. I like the plus size representation that was shown in the book. The 3rd act conflict was a bit frustrating to read but overall this is cute and quick read.
Thanks to Netgalley & Montlake for access to this E-ARC! It was ok. I didn't really like the main girl very much. I would give this author another chance.
3.25/5 stars! I really liked the premise of this story and I appreciated that the influencer depictions were accurate and engaging. Unfortunately, it felt like the customers lost chemistry throughout the book instead of growing it. There were editing errors and the final "conflict" felt very immature. Overall, a bearable cute story, but lacking in several areas.
I received an advance review copy for free through NetGalley, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
So good! So freaking good. I laughed, I fell in love with the characters(not all) and I was entertained from the beginning to the very end. Fun family moments. This was a fun read with lots of laugh out loud moments. Jude and Olive have such fun banter. We follow along as two people fall for one another but being in the big lights of fame isn’t easy on either of them. A point of self doubt and the power of love. And then there’s always the snake in the grass. They needed to be throttled. This was a fun and fresh read.
Thank you to NetGalley for the book!
I had so much fun reading this. Jude and Olive were adorable. There banter was chefs kiss. Jude was one of the sweetest MMC’s I’ve read about. Olive was a strong, curvy, fun FMC.
It was good to see both Jude and Olive have such amazing characters to support them in Annie, Remi, Jasper and Cait.
This had a little bit of spice sprinkled in with all the cute, fun moments.
I hope that Jasper also gets a book. Because I just loved how he was so protective and brotherly to Jude.
This was also really good at highlighting mental health problems.
Thank you Montlake and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinions.
If there is one thing that Teagan Hunter does really well it's texting conversations within her books - I really love that aspect of her stories and it is what always draws me back to her as an author. THE DM DIARIES was so much fun and everything I had hoped for . I love Olive, but JUDE!! Gosh, he was such a sweetheart - he gives off Golden Retriever energy and I am obsessed with that kind of MMC.
When Olive O'Brien, a plus size model and influencer, started to write to a famous actor her memories and daily thoughts through social messages she didn't expect to ever get a reply, so when it happens imagine the shock.
This is the start of such a nice, humorous read.
I liked the diary entries in the DM of a famous person, even if not too safe, I've enjoyed the bantering between the main characters, and the over the top Hollywood family was a hoot.
Olive and Jude are such sweet and cute characters, they understand each other really well, but at times their indecisiveness and fears are so deep to risk their relationship. I would have liked they trusted each other more, and to show their feelings more.
All in all a good book but a little too verbose and predictable.
This was a very fun book to read.
I loved both Olive and Jude, and their chemistry was great.
This book is a little different from Teagan's normal style. It feels like a Teagan book with a little Lucy Score vibes thrown in, if that makes sense.
Olive is a plus sized model with an awesome personality. Her friends and family are very good side characters. I love Annie and Remi!
Jude is Hollywood royalty, but he is playing second fiddle to his brother.
The way Olive and Jude meet and connect is very entertaining, and I had a perma-smile while reading through their story. Their chemistry was scorching, I lived it.
I got so emotional during the acknowledgments. It was written really well, and I could feel all the emotion in it.
All in all, it is a very enjoyable book. I am so excited for this new chapter of Teagan's career.
It's been a while since I've read one of Teagan Hunter's books and I'm always down to read a book that reminds me of You've Got Mail so I was excited to start this one. The concept was cute and I loved the side characters, but I never really felt connected to either main character and found myself skimming a lot. I'm hoping that Jasper and Dylan get a story next!
