I didn’t realize this was a series, and as I haven’t read the others, I don’t want to start a new one. It’s not clear it is except on Goodreads. Love the cover!

I have learned to love a good mystery, and going into this book, I wasn’t aware it was the third installment in a series but thankfully I didn’t feel like I missed a beat.

It was easy to get pulled into the story with the narration from 13 year old Bly. The author did a great job describing situations and experiences from a young teenagers eyes. In their quest to find her step father who’s like a dad to her - Bly and her mom (Gus) set off to finally discover what happened to him and boy what a twisted town they arrive in.

You’ll love characters, You’ll loathe characters and you won’t expect the ending when it unravels.

Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Perennial and Paperbacks for the advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Publication date is set for Dec 3 2024

Thank you to Harper Paperbacks and NetGalley for an ARC of this book. Buried Road is the third installment in the Gus Money series but reads easily as a standalone.
Three years ago Gus Monet’s longtime partner Howard, a journalist, goes missing when going to meet a source for a story. Gus and her young daughter Bly are devastated. Now Howard’s camper van has just been found, and Gus and Bly are determined to find out what happened to Howard.
I thoroughly enjoyed the first half of this book. The story pulled me in right from the start and the writing is strong. I loved the mother-daughter bond and Gus’ strong female character. Yet I struggled when I found Gus to be putting her 13 year old daughter in some dangerous adult situations. However this book was full of twists and turns and interesting characters.

Really enjoyed this book! Read an advanced copy and didn’t realize it was the third in a series; but it reads great as a stand alone as well!

This was a fast-paced story full of twists and turns. I wasn’t sure it would all tie together in the end but it did! A daughter and her mother go back to search for their missing father figure/boyfriend three years after his disappearance and the book leads you through their journey and keeps you guessing until the end.

A camping trip gone wrong, a journalist’s disappearance, and a haunting trail of clues all lead to a thrilling journey of uncovering the truth. As Gus and Bly delve deeper into the shadows of Prince Edward County, they unearth hidden secrets and face adversaries determined to keep the past buried.

This is the third book of the series but reads as a stand alone.

Thank you, NetGalley and HarperCollins Publishers, for the advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

The setting: Gus and her young daughter Bly search for Gus's boyfriend of many years, Howard, a journalist who suddenly disappeared one day after driving off in their van and promising to be back soon.

This seemed like a more traditional mystery, with traditional villians and traditional reasons for the crimes being committed. I liked the gustiness of the determined and feisty mother, Gus, who goes to great lengths to find her boyfriend. I also enjoyed the personality of the daughter Bly. and how she sees her mother, their quest for Howard, and their entire search.

An enjoyable mystery.

I really enjoyed this as a third book in a series. The time jump was an interesting choice, but I really liked having the viewpoint of Gus' daughter throughout the story.
