‘The Long Nights’ by Tom Mock is quite a STUNNING debut by all means. Exquisitely written from start to finish, with superb character work, a fast-paced plot, and an incredibly well-realized setting to top it all off. Loved the horror/supernatural element, alongside the deadpan humor at the right moments. With a solid start like this, I honestly can’t wait to return to these characters and this world. Dark, horror, urban noir fantasy done right, I would most certainly say (the awards and accolades speak for themselves). This is no doubt going to be on my top reads of the year for sure. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you give it a look, and add it to your TBRs without further ado. NOT TO BE MISSED!

I did my best to finish this book but I just can’t for many reasons.

1) The writing is overdone and flowery almost to the point of unreadability. This reads like a high schoolers first draft of an edgy horror novel.
2) The women are terribly written. At the point I stopped I got an unemotional robot and an overly flirtatious man wrecker.
3) The gore and violence are lackluster.
4) The male MC is boring and bland.

This book is trying its best to be the Dresden Files and just falls flat for me. Do not care about how this ends and do not recommend it.

Thank you Tom Mock and Netgalley for this ARC! This was dark and deliciously spooky. I cannot even imagine having to deal with the...trances? Dreams? The main character has to deal with. I'm so happy that I read this!

Honest Opinions.

I was confused throughout this book, not sure if I missed something, it took me too long to read because I had to keep reading chapters over and over again, and the time jumps and memory jumps were all over the place and just confused me.

It was a good book overall, but just super confusing.

It’s been a long time since I’ve read a dark/horror fantasy.
This was absolutely gorgeously written. The characters were complex, and the story was engrossing. This is how I really enjoy my fantasy and it is so hard to come by.

Dont miss this if you want your fantasy on the darker and deeper side.
