I might have to do a full video review this finale because I have many thoughts.

As an installment, I think this was action-packed, exciting, and gripping. However, part of it didn’t feel like the end of this series probably because of how disconnected this conflict is from the conflict in book 1.

As for the plot, it is very fast-paced. This book is segmented into five parts and you can definitely feel the ebbs and flows of the story. Overall, I think it’s well-plotted with interesting twists and a cool storyline running throughout. I also think the ending is very very rushed. Like literally we go from the end of the battle to everything was perfect and fine! There’s a LOT that happens in the last fifty pages that in a different book would have been expanded.

The characters were better in this book than in CVV I would say. They felt more similar to their CBB selves which made their arcs and development in this conclusion feel more natural. I’m glad we finally got the introduction of Tzain’s point of view and I liked the balance that was struck between the four perspectives. In the end most of the characters got the ending I think they deserved, but not all (hence why I will probably make a video review lol).

The writing was also very lush and I greatly enjoyed the new world(s) we learned about here. Again though, for a finale, I wish more time had been spent/dedicated on Orïsha as opposed to these new worlds regardless of their individual coolness factors.

Overall, this was a solid entry into this series but a little wonky as a conclusion/send-off for this 7-year journey. I will most likely do a video review so if you want some of my more spoilery thoughts, definitely check out that video TK!

I’ve been waiting to get my hands on the next book in this series for forever.. so when the sample was available I jumped on it. Unfortunately I feel like the beginning of the story and the world building connection from the last book to this one took up majority of the time in this sample.

It took me a while to process the sample as the beginning what the main characters are enduring is very triggering. I did not expect it to affect me as much as it did but the writing was so vivid that you were truly embedded in the story just as the characters.

This did entice me and provided much anticipation for the upcoming novel.

I have been waiting for years for this book to be published. I can’t wait to read the whole novel as soon as possible.

I personally appreciated this sample chapter. The author's writing style was engaging, and they skillfully brought the beginning characteristics of the characters to life. It left me eager to delve deeper into the story, wishing I had the entire book to devour.

I have been so very excited for the third installment of this series!! When I saw the preview I knew I had to read it, and it was a great taste for what is to come!

I loved the first two novels but this one felt all over the place. The pacing felt really off. They introduce a new land, magic/goddess, and people without really the time to give it justice in a final installment of a trilogy which is just a wild move. Soooo many vines haha. Like is half the book just descriptions of the vine weaving because it felt like it.

Amari has a new queer love interest that is not even explored.

This book felt like it was over before it began and the ending is so abrupt followed by an epilogue that l doesn’t feel like it actually helps tie anything up.

I don’t know this just felt like the book was rushed even though there was a longer wait for this book than the previous two.

What an ending to this series! I fell so in love with Zelie and Amari throughout this series and this was such a triumphant ending for Zelie!! Although the new setting threw me off a bit, and it seemed like we had to do a lot of extra world building in this final book which is unusual, I was really happy with the ending with Zelie received. I cried a lot (if you know you know), was so happy for Amari and the growth she had, and watched so many of my favorite characters fall in love and grow as humans and leaders. This will forever remain one of my favorite YA fantasy series, with such unique characters and a world, and a terrific reflection of oppression and injustice in minority communities! I received and sample of the book from the publishers. I don't think it was enough to formulate an opinion on the book. But it was enough to make me want to keep reading and finish the series, I can't wait to get my copy!!!

Children of Blood & Bone is one of my all time FAVORITE series, and having the chance to read this sampler only made me more excited to get the final copy in my hands. I can't wait to see where Zélie, Amari, & Inan end up. So far, Amari's character arc has been my favorite.

Of course the final installment of this amazing trilogy will be a 5 star!

This chapter sampler has me on the edge of my seat already! I can't wait to dive into the world of the Orishia and continue to journey with Zelle on her quest for freedom!

This sneak peak into Adeyemi's finale to this wonderful series is fantastic. In just the first couple of chapters, I am already enraptured and hope I can get my hands on the third book soon!

I was really looking forward to the conclusion of this series. Unfortunately I was a bit disappointed. The conflicts of the first two books seemed like afterthoughts and there were so many new things introduced in only 350 pages. It was hoping to see Zelie really come into her own and master her powers and it really didn’t happen in this book. When it somewhat did there were only 2 pages left. The ending seemed so rushed and we only had a few pages to say goodbye to these characters that we’ve been rooting for for so long. This wasn’t a bad book by any means, but it seemed a bit disjointed and not the best conclusion for this well loved series. I will still continue to love this series and read more of Tomis work.

The best book in the series!! The author plunges readers directly into this story, and I loved every moment of it. The pacing is impeccable. I felt as if I were physically present in this world alongside Zelie and the rest of the cast. Every character, regardless of how brief their appearance, is well-developed and feels entirely authentic. Bravo Tomi!!

Only the first 25 pages so it seems unfair to leave a review with so little context. From what I just read though, I'm worried that Tomi Adeyemi is rushing again. The character un-development in the second book is carrying over to this third and final installment, which has me worried. Children of Blood and Bone was a wonder, but Virtue and Vengeance undid it all for me, so I've been anxious about this third book. Her chapter starts and ends are pretty heavy handed with the severity of the situation that's been repeated often throughout the first two books. I'm also wondering if in an attempt to be different from other story structures, this overdoes it too, i.e. the in media res model for these beginning chapters was almost too fast paced and feels like we're cramming a lot in before concluding the series. Not sure yet, but these first 25 pages didn't reassure me I hate to say.
