This is a fantastic cookbook! The recipes are easy to follow and the photos are wonderful! There are recipes for every occasion and I think there is something for everyone in this. I would recommend this! Special Thank You to Alyssa Rivers, DK and NetGalley for allowing me to read a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.
A great cookbook. I love that it features ways to maxamize your time and budget while still making filling, healthy, enjoyable meals.
Beautiful images and so many recipes. I am always looking for quick and easy recipes and through this cookbook I found so many! I received an ARC through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
If Pioneer Woman and Sandra Lee's semi home made made a blog baby this would be it. For me it was not a great success in terms of cookbooks. There were no themes to the food, nutritional guides, substitutes listed which in the modern cookbooks should be fairly normal. I could understand if there was a website link to gather those but alas, no. There was a common usage of prepackage/processed foods, heavy on the meat, wheat, oil, butter and cream recipes. What I did like is each recipe has a photo and its very professional. It would be a fun cookbook to have around to just pick a random page and make it because it has such an array of food.
I will be doing her spatchcock turkey and most of her recipes you can get your kids/new chefs inolved to make things ike g tair fryer turkey burgers and fries or making a steak marinade(which is delicious) and a veggie charcuterie.
I absolutely enjoyed this cookbook. When you want to test and try a bit of here and there, this was great to get into. The recipes were enjoyable and not complicated, which is fun to get to when you just want to check out a good cookbook. I loved the writing, the comments throughout, and the simplicity of most of the recipes listed.
I'm glad I can finally get to the recipes, because the blog site of her recipes is littered with ads that it can get really annoying. So to get to her recipes easily with this, it made me wanting to test out her recipes more and more. I like that I wasn't confused with all the ingredients (looking at you, Nourish Bowl) and wasn't weary if I had that kitchen tool or not. This was like a basic food elevated cookbook with yummy yummy dishes.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an eARC of this cookbook! All opinions are my own.
IF you're looking for the perfect cookbook with simple directions and everyday ingredients this is it. We are in love with this book! We received this as an ebook ARC and were so impressed. My mom and I couldn’t wait to rush out and buy a copy for ourselves. You are going to love this book. This book has over 150 recipes that are perfect to help you create great meals for your family. The author gives a variety of recipes from appetizer to dessert and everything in between, and most of them ready in 30 minutes. It is perfect for our busy families and lives. I love that the author also includes budget-friendly ideas for those of us on tight budgets as well as using everyday appliances, like my slow cooker, to make life easier. It is packed with helpful tips and ideas for substitutions when needed. We found our favorites like Taco Stuffed Avocados, Chicken Alfredo Roll-ups and The Best Chocolate Chip Cookies. We know you will love this and it will soon become a household treasure. Enjoy. We give a 1000 Stars.
This cookbook contains helpful kitchen tips and basic recipes most seasoned cooks will be familiar with. I think this would be good for those just starting out cooking.
This is the second time, since I’ve started reviewing cookbooks, that I didn’t even finish before I was ordering a physical copy! The recipes are easy and delicious! Highly recommend!!!
This cookbook has a little of everything for everyone. The recipes sound amazing, the dishes look good, and it's well-written so that you can easily follow along while making them.
This cookbook has quick and easy recipes for busy families. From classics such as French Toast to more creative recipes such as Sushi Nachos, this has you covered for all meals and holidays. It's creative and useful.
Good recipes and some interesting ideas for what to eat. Some weren't my taste and didn't look that great, but overall this seemed like a solid cookbook that I'd like to see a physical copy of to truly get a good feel of the book itself. 4 stars since it's not perfect, but still a good cookbook with lots of good options.
I was excited to review this title, I follow The Recipe Critic Blog and was excited to see she had a book out! The book is appropriately named as these are the "Tried & True". I made "The Best Swedish Meatballs, and thought they lived up to their title. This book has something for everyone, the recipes are easy to read and understand and the ingredients can be easily found in the grocery store. I loved the book!
I’ve been a fan of The Recipe Critics blog for years and this cookbook is such a fantastic representation of the recipes you’ll find there. I’m very excited to try some of these and will be adding this book to my physical cookbook collection.
Wow! What a fantastic cookbook! This book is filled with delicious recipes! They seem easy to make with step by step instructions! I love that there's pictures of the recipes! I'll definitely be trying most of the recipes in this book!!
I was provided a complimentary copy of the book from DK Penguin Random House via Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is a good cookbook for beginners. Seasoned cooks will recognize many of the recipes. It has a nice mix of basic recipes and more challenging ones.
I was so excited to review The Tried & True Cookbook! I’ve been in such a rut with daily dinners, I was really hoping to find some new ideas to mix things up a bit. This cookbook hit the mark and then some!
Every recipe is low-key, but looks delicious. Nothing looks overly complicated so they can appeal to beginners in the kitchen, but also to someone more experienced. There’s many traditional recipes like Pasta e Fagioli and Creamy Zuppa Tosacana (both of which I can’t wait to try!) and fun desserts like Strawberry Cheesecake Salad.
I can definitely see why this is called The Tried & True Cookbook! I could see myself reaching for this book often and making many of these recipes again and again.
Many thanks to NetGalley and DK for my ARC approval in exchange for my honest review!
As a busy FT working mom who prefers to eat and serve fresh, home-cooked meals, I am always looking for cookbooks that allow me to meet these food goals on a time crunch. As such, I'm a fan of books like Cook Once, Eat All Week. This book seemed right up my alley, as it states that it contains "quick and easy recipes for busy families."
Pros:
*Well organized
*Beautiful, detailed food photos
*Family-friendly meals that my kids will enjoy
*There are links for most recipes, which pull up the recipe individually on the author's blog. I will definitely be using her blog when I don't have access to the cookbook!
Cons:
*Many recipes are not quick, per my definition. Going through the dinner section, I saw several meals with total prep & cook time of 1.5 - 2+ hours. This is not going to be feasible when we get home and have less than an hour to prep and make a meal before sports, bedtime, etc. This may not be a big deal to some, but it is the most crucial thing I look for in a cookbook marketed like this one.
*Nutrition info not listed in cookbook, but it is available on the blog.
Great cookbook with a ton of amazing recipes inside. I really liked the simple yet tasty recipes and the layouts were beautiful as well.
Tried & True Cookbook

If the terms, braise, chiffonade, ganache, hollandaise, immersion, infuse, julienne, marinate, meringue, poach, ribbon stage, roux, etc. send chills down your spine and cause you to grab your phone for takeout this cookbook is for you. Some of the best recipes are the ones that are simple and fast to make. Author Alyssa Rivers offers readers/cooks the perfect cookbook for all cooks no matter the level of your expertise. If you are looking for a cookbook with complicated, unique or unusual.
There are times when we want to create a gourmet meal but that’s usually a special occasion, a time when you have planned, shopped and prepared for the meal. That’s rare in most households. Who has time for a complicated meal that requires special tools/equipment, ingredients that are not in your cupboard, and instructions that are complicated.
Most people come home from work tired and looking for a meal that is quick, easy and tastes delicious. There are several small appliances that will help make mealtimes easy: air fryer, slow cooker, and an Instant Pot are suggestions. Pantry staples will also make mealtime simpler: herbs, spices, broth, tomatoes, flour, sugar, pasta, rice, oil, vinegar, soy sauce, vinegar, onions, garlic, potatoes, canned vegetables and suggestions. A list of cooking substitutes is invaluable. There are some really good recipes in this cookbook. Most recipes have a photograph. Many of the recipes involve a convenient processed product such as canned pie filling, canned soup, prepackaged instant Jello, and frozen whipped topping.

My favorite part of this cookbook is the list of items to keep on hand and the substitution list. I am constantly starting recipes and realizing that things are missing halfway through. The photos of the meals are extremely accurate and the recipes are easy to follow as well. There are links in the text that lead to some of the recipes online. This added a nice touch and I will be making more of these recipes soon. Thank you.
