Itty Bitty Betty Blob is a very cute book with a wonderful message. A journey of finding your true self and learning to love and accept it in a way that also encourages others to be loving and accepting, too, I feel that this book will certainly be beloved by many.
The book isn’t specific in any one way about which differences one can accept, therefore I think just about anyone who feels different from their peers can find themselves in its pages. I’m not sure if this was intentional, but I do think it is pretty smart as a result.
The illustrations are cute, with Betty Blob—alongside some surprise friends—being pretty much the only color in the story. Everyone else is rather gray or dark and definitely fit the theme of the story, being dastardly and scary monsters, after all.
I loved the bit at the end the most, when pictures arrive home after picture day. It was an incredibly cute moment.
Short and sweet story about being yourself. You're a monster in a goth world but happen to love pink? No worries! If your picture winds up looking different it is because you may be a bit different, and that is okay.
No rhymes, but I loved the illustrations a lot and would recommend this.
The arc was provided by the publisher.
The artwork is utterly charming. I loved the black and gray color scheme with splashes of pink, then later in the book the more colorful pages were also adorable. The story had a nice message about personality and being yourself. I would recommend this book for public libraries.
Itty Bitty Betty Blob by Constance Lombardo is an engaging picture book that narrates the story of a unique pink monster named Betty. In the book, Betty deviates from the norm and enjoys dancing and playing among flowers, unlike her monster friends, who try to be evil. She tries to fit in by imitating her friends on picture day at school but discovers a place where she can be herself—among friends who look like her, surrounded by beautiful flowers and vibrant colors. Betty realizes that it's okay to be different and learns to embrace her unique qualities.
The illustrations by Micha Player are impressive, with black-and-white pictures that highlight the monster side of the book and colorful, pink Betty who stands out. The book delivers a valuable lesson on self-acceptance, an excellent choice for younger audiences. The story's message is clear: it's essential to be true to oneself, regardless of how others look or expect. Overall, Itty Bitty Betty Blob is an adorable and educational picture book everyone should read.
I just reviewed Itty Bitty Betty Blob by Constance Lombardo. #IttyBittyBettyBlob #NetGalley
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review the ARC of Itty Bitty Betty Blob. I cannot rave about this cute little story enough! Itty Bitty Betty Blob is just what we needed in the world right now. I wish I had this story when I was growing up.
Itty Bitty Betty Blob is a monster unlike any of her classmates. Try as she might, she just does feel like the monster she’s expected to be. That is until one day she meets some new… friends that show her being YOU is the best way to be. I hope every little girl (and boy!) from 2-92 reads this book. It reminds us that you are perfect the way you are and we all need that reminder from time to time.
This is 100%, honest to goodness 5/5 stars for me. I will absolutely be purchasing a copy for our home library and for all the little ones in our family. Well done, Constance Lombardo!
This book was so cute. I loved meeting Betty and seeing her joyful outlook on life, even if she wants to be just like her fellow monsters. But with the help of some new found friends, Betty is able to start loving herself, and embracing all that makes her beautiful. This is a great book for kids to read so they can see and understand that it’s ok that they are a bit different; they don’t have to fit a mold not made for them. I hope all kids have a chance to read this sweet journey. I know I’m glad I did.
The second I saw the cover of this story, I needed to read it! The illustrations are so engaging, unique, and fun, they caught my eye immediately. I love stories that explain such relevant social topics in a way that is absorbable and accessible to all levels.
Betty Blob is who I was as a child, so seeing this bright shiny light stay true to herself, hit home for me. I appreciated that the other characters weren’t put down for their own personal behaviors, instead the book uplifted Betty while keeping the other monsters on the up as well. This one will be in our kids library as soon as it’s published!
“Itty Bitty Betty Blob was not your typical monster,” begins this charming picture book about being your true self. How true! Parents who remember The Munsters will immediately remember niece Marilyn from the 1960s TV show The Munsters.
Betty, while not feeling ugly in her pretty looks, rejoices in rainbows, flowers, singing and good behavior — unlike the other monsters at Ghoulington Academy (love the name!). How can she possibly look good for the camera on Picture Day when she can’t summon up a good enough scowl for the photo? Some new friends help Betty through the ordeal.
From the atmospheric illustrations to the charming words, everything in this picture book proves — forgive the pun — picture perfect. Little monsters and their adults will love every page.
In the interest of full disclosure, I received this book from NetGalley, Astra Publishing House and Hippo Books in exchange for an honest review.
Such an adorable, heartwarming story about a little monster who doesn't feel "scary" or like she fits in. The message of accepting herself for who she is (along with the rest of the school and her family also accepting her) was great and so important!
There are other books that are similar (The Not-So-Scary Monster, etc. ) but the illustrations of this one take the cake and bring this book up to a new level. The bright colors contrasting with the greyscale monster world were just fantastic.
Itty bitty Betty blob was the perfect book to read to my kids, they loved it! She was so adorable and the story itself was great. It showed that you don’t have to fit in, and that you can be who you are and others will still like you. I can’t wait to add a finished copy to my shelves.
This picture book is absolutely precious! I love it!
It has a wonderful message of being inclusive and kind to others who are different, and that it’s perfectly fine to BE different.
The illustrations are so well done, and Betty herself is super cute. The choice to have her be pink against all of the grayscale colors of everyone else is smart. I requested this book because of the gorgeous cover, and I think a lot of people will pick it up for the same reason.
Look for this in June 2024!
My thanks to NetGalley, Astra Publishing House and Hippo Park for an advance copy in exchange for my honest feedback.
A well paced, heart warming story about a little monster who feels like she doesn't belong because she has a hard time being scary/fitting it. It would be a great read to help young kids build up their confidence and be themselves.
Really cute idea and it seems that monsters are really in right now!
This book is delightful. What a great book to read with children!
I can just see them making all the scary faces for picture day. This is a story for everyone!!
A fun and visually striking story about embracing who you are!
Betty Blob lives in a scary, drab world of monsters but just cannot conform. When she finds some like minded puffs on the way to picture day, she finds joy in being her colorful self. Soon every monster is won over by Betty's giggly and colorful ways.
