This was a fun, cute mystery! I accused pretty much everyone possible in this book but the ending of the whodunit got me - which is fairly difficult since I'm good at sniffing it out. This was a cozier type of mystery, which I also love (Finlay Donovan vibes). I wish Gwen had a more fleshed out personality because there was some good opportunity to delve deeper with the breakup and reasons behind it, as well as the experience of dating apps. You do need to suspend believability for parts of it, but that is always fun for me and not a negative. Overall, this is fun and very enjoyable read. Quick read and definitely would recommend!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I went back and forth more times than I can count on who the true killer was and even though I had thought “maybe them” a few times, it wasn’t a true confirmation until the very end!
I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t read a ton of thrillers (I’m usually a romance/romantasy type of reader) but this one pulled me in right from the start and had me staying up way too late reading as a mom of two lol.
I have never used a dating app but I’ve heard plenty of hilarious tales from friends and reading Gwen’s story and all of the bad dates was just too funny.
Is it weird to say a book about murder was fun? It was, though. Swiped is about Gwen, a 29 year old barista/ice cream van owner who broke up with her serious boyfriend Noah some time ago and is attempting to get over him by going on terrible dates from a dating app. Until one of those dates ends up dead. And so does another. Somehow, someone is targeting the guys she’s seeing, and Gwen is swept into a mystery.
So yes, this is a fairly irreverent book about murder. It is funny and even charming at times. It’s not terrible heavy - surprise! - and there were a few twists I didn’t see coming. A great summer read for the slightly morbid set.
Thanks NetGalley and Simon and Schuster for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. I absolutely loved this book. It was both funny and fast-paced. I really didn’t figure out the twist until the very end. There were some Finlay Donovan vibes with this book, and I love that series as well. Definitely a book worth checking out when it’s published in May. This would be a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 book for me!

Gwen Turner is struggling. She is a thirty-something barista with a failing small business who has recently ended a longterm relationship with Noah, a man she believed was the love of her life. Meanwhile, her best friend Sarah is moving out of their apartment to get married to a rather lacklustre man, and Gwen has been swiping right on an app called Connector to go on a series of either disappointing or disastrous dates. Suddenly the dating situation goes from disappointing to terrifying when Gwen’s former dates start dying violently. The lead police detective is convinced that Gwen is the murderer. Suddenly Gwen’s casual and flippant approach to life is not serving her any longer and she is desperate to stay a step ahead of the murderer and prove her innocence.
This is a fun premise for a novel, and the author definitely takes it and runs with it. Gwen is a likeable, if somewhat immature and passive character who dates a series of complete jerks. They do need to be put in their place, although murder might be going too far! The dialogue that ensues on some of these dates is absolutely hilarious. Yes the plot is a bit unbelievable, but the plot of many thrillers strains credulity these days so I won’t fault the author for that. My only critique would be that I would have preferred a different ending in which Gwen found her own strength and purpose without a man involved in it. If you are looking for a thriller that doesn’t take itself too seriously then this is the read for you. Many thanks to Simon & Shuster for approving a digital copy for me to read.
Thanks to NetGalley & Simon & Schuster Canada for the ARC! This book is a wild ride—a fast-paced mix of romance and suspense that keeps you hooked. Sure, it's a bit far-fetched, but that's part of the fun. I found myself gasping at some of the suspenseful moments. While I enjoyed the concept, I wish the main character, Gwen, had more depth. Overall, it's a decent read, perfect for those looking for a thrilling escape.
Gwen is having a rough go, out on the online dating scene after coming out of a bad breakup. Except all the dates that she's been going on mysteriously start dying. Swiped is part dark humour, part thriller. I really liked the premise of this book, but some of the twists didn't quite hit for me. Part of Gwen's character is that she's meant to come off as this hot mess express (which is very apparent in how she makes herself a part of the murder investigations), but despite that I really disliked how those around her judged her online dating habits and made it seem like she was doing something she shouldn't be (especially when the guys she was getting matched with were the weirdos).
Cool idea, just overall not the best execution for me!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the arc, in exchange for honest review.
I did enjoy reading this book! It was a fast-paced murder mystery laced with humour and sarcasm. The protagonist, Gwen, has become absorbed into the dating app world. But as she swipes and goes on terrible dates, these men start turning up dead.
Unfortunately, in my opinion the writing and characters were lacking a certain depth and uniqueness. Particularly the main character, Gwen, seemed unrealistically immature and almost impossible to like. This is absolutely still a fun and cozy read but it was hard for me to look past some of the issues I had with the writing.
I was excited for the plot when i read the description, but overall, i think the main character’s inner monologue made me not connect to the book fully, i get that she wasn’t supposed to be very likeable and she had lots of flaws and bad decisions but still, i wished it wasn’t written like a millennial woman who just doesn’t know who she is, she was mostly annoying. Although it was well written Gwen just wasn’t a great character and I’m just disappointed that the book wasn’t as exciting as it sounded.
I wanted more action, drama or something that kept on the edge of my seat with the ending, but it was a very short resolution and i didn’t get how she ended up with aubrey after also thinking he was the murderer
Yikes. I thought that this being advertised often with Birding with benefits and The Paradise Problem I would have struck gold with this. Not the case at all. This was quite cringe-worthy. Maybe just not my type of read but I found it so not well-written, and a storyline I couldn’t care to try to like. Unfortunately this was a fail for me!
As always though, thank you to Netgalley and Simon & Schuster for the chance to read this ARC!

I’m thrilled to share my thoughts on this fun read! 📚✨
I can confidently say it’s an absolute gem. The story is woven with twists and turns. Just when I thought I had the ending figured out, the story whisked me away on an exhilarating adventure—an unexpected thrill ride. If you’re a fan of books layered with romance and mystery, similar to books by Lucy Foley and Alex Michaelides, this book is for you. Once you pick it up, you won’t be able to put it down! 📖🔍
