Thank you to Net Galley and author Steve Berry and Grant Blackwood for allowing me to read this new book.
This is the second Luke Daniels book from Steve Berry, The first is Ninth man.
This book follows Luke Daniels in Russia. He's He's on an assignment and gets waylaid by the CIA. He is asked to provide assistance to them in rescuing an old friend of his from the Russians. This starts an International adventure which is initially just a rescue mission but becomes so much more.
I love this book because there's so much history about Russia even before the cold war back to the Stalin and Lenin eras. Along the way there's an ancient manuscript that must be found and a race against time to prevent nuclear disaster. It was a fascinating book learning about the Russian culture and things that occurred in the past and I still have repercussions for today. Along the way we meet some interesting characters some Russian presidents past and present and many bad men. It is written in typical Steve Berry style and keeps you guessing all the way to the end and there's even a little bit of double-crossing going on. I have also loved the writer's note at the end where they separated fact from fiction and laid out those things in the book that were actually true historical facts and those that were fiction. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a page-turner, keep you on your toes, action-packed kind of book.

Another great thriller from Steve Berry. This has multiple plots that eventually merge. Based in Russia the book provides lots of history and geography. Recommend this great book.

The book is the 2nd in the Luke Daniels series. Luke Daniels is a character from Steve Berry's Cotton Malone series.. I had not read the first book in the Daniels series and was able to was able to understand this book and not feel lost.

The story had an old Cold War feel to it . Luke is loaned out to the CIA to help find a partner from his past. Going into Russia to rescue his former partner gets wrapped up into Russian politics. The book works history into the plot like Steve Berry does.

This is a fun read that I highly recommend. I look forward to more books in the stand alone Luke Daniels series.

As someone who has read every entry in the Cotton Malone series, I was excited when it was revealed that Luke Daniels would be getting at least a three-book "spin-off". The Luke Daniels character is one that I have been eager to follow since his first appearance way back when in a previous Cotton Malone book. His initial standalone "The 9th Man" was a great introduction to the characters' story outside of the Malone series. I felt that this book was an even better telling than the previous one. As always, the book is well researched and expertly written. the tempo of the book flows with the action and the story. it doesn't get bogged down with unnecessary dialogue or detail and it was a quick and easy read. I was hoping for more surrounding the Library of Ivan the Terrible, and on that point I was a little disappointed. However, this book was a fun read and Steve Berry has once again written an amazing piece of literature with Grant Blackwood.

This is the second book in the Luke Daniel series. It works as a stand alone novel, but reading the first one and the latter Cotton Malone series will be helpful in filling in some background. As indicated in the title, the action takes place in Russia and involves some Cold War technology. It is a fast paced and engaging read.

I received a free Kindle copy of this book courtesy of publisher with the understanding that I would post a review on Goodreads, Net Galley, Amazon, Facebook and my nonfiction book review blog.

If you are looking for an action adventure that will pull you in and keep you guessing this will fit the bill. A Ranger doesn't leave a person behind and if they do they are going back. When you read about them asking Luke Daniels to go find out if an old buddy was still alive you knew that it wasn't going to be a peak and return but a full rescue mission. Throw in a Russian asset in love and a former Russian president and you have a recipe for a action and some unexpected twists.

Another book in the Magellan Billet universe. This one feels different from all the others. For a moment I forgot about the “history” parts of what the Magellan Billet does. The book had a lot of action that I loved. I only wish maybe it wasn’t in Russia. I feel that is the safe place to go in these kind of books. But other than that one minor minor critique, i thoroughly enjoyed the next installment of the Like Daniel’s series and cannot wait for the last one! Lots of fun action, twists and history all intertwined.

I received a free advanced copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is the second book in the Jeff Daniels thriller series. Jeff Daniels is a great character, I've enjoyed both books in the series and can't wait for the third. As with all Steve Berry books this one is steeped in history, this time Russian history. Although interesting, I felt at times the foucs on history slowed the pace of the story somewhat I still enjoyed the book and strongly recommend it.

Thanks to NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing for an advanced reader copy

Let me start by saying that I love Steve Berry. However, this book was tough for me. I feel like it got really in the weeds on Russian history and settings. Perhaps if I knew about that area, I would have enjoyed this book more. The storyline was a standard Berry/Blackwood book, so that part was great.

Another home-run in the Luke Daniels series from Steve Berry. Luke is tasked with rescuing an old friend imprisoned in Russia. The Russian history lessons throughout were an added bonus to the thrills and adventure that features prominently. Luke and a Russian agent race to stop a nuclear weapon from destroying the entire Russian government. There’s much to like about this second Luke Daniels outing — good plot, solid dialogue, and a fast-paced story. I read it in a day!

Red Star Falling is the 2nd Luke Daniels book in this series, a spin-off of the Cotton Malone series. The title refers to a long dormant Soviet arms secret, a nuclear warhead that orbits the Earth. The bomb can only be an activated by a series of codes, known to only 2 men, along with an ancient manuscript from the long-sought library of Ivan the Terrible. The plot is pretty straightforward, as Luke tries to locate the men and the manuscript and disable the bomb, while a rogue Russian ex-president also seeks the bomb, but with a decidedly different purpose. As is the norm for author Steve Berry, readers are treated to a history lesson on Russian government, as Berry skillfully weaves historical fact with fiction, while reigniting Cold War fears in this fascinating and intelligent novel. Another winner in this series. I received an ARC of this book from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Magellan Billet agent Luke Daniels is headed home from his last mission when a CIA agent he worked with two years ago on a failed mission makes contact with him that stops his return home and sends him into Russia. Luke's friend John who was captured and thought dead on that failed mission is alive in a secret Russian prison. Luke eventually gets John out of the prison but John dies from the rough treatment and illness but not before he passes information about a Russian nuclear satellite that not many know is still orbiting the earth, and now someone wants to activate and plunge to earth over Russia and the key to detonate or destruct is hidden in the legendary library of Ivan the Terrible and Luke is not the only one after the code. And they don't want the code to stop the satellite but to plunge it into the Kremlin.

Red Star Falling is a Luke Daniels novel, very fast paced and full of action. Luke hears from a CIA contact that someone from a previous failed operation is possibly alive. He has felt guilty for not saving him and immediately investigates.
I love the way Steve Berry adds historical elements to his books. This was a very enjoyable thriller.

I love the Luke Daniel’s novels by Steve Berry and Grant Blackwood, and this is no exception.

Luke is called in to help when the CIA gets word that an operative on his last mission, believed dead, is indeed alive and held in a secret Russian prison. The action is non-stop, and interwoven with history, Berry’s trademark.

Recommended for all thriller fans. #ReadStarFalling #NetGalley #SaltMarshAuthorSeries
