Esther is a divorce lawyer who represents women that are being mistreated by their husbands. When a billionaire comes to her and wants representation in his divorce, she has no choice but to agree, as this man is blackmailing her.

This book is a nail biter with some clever plot twists. It’s easy to read in a day because you won’t want to put it down. Parts of it are a bit far-fetched, but perhaps that’s part of the draw.

Thank you, NetGalley and Bookouture for the eARC.

The divorce lawyer was fabulous…,,Oh my gosh I literally was up all night reading this. It was so worth the lack of sleep. I started reading this novel early in the day and could not force myself to stop. It was so good that I wish I could go back and force myself to slow down, reread it and savor every moment. I loved this novel.

"The Divorce Lawyer" immerses readers in a gripping tale of moral dilemma, ethical ambiguity, and high-stakes suspense. Through the eyes of the protagonist, a dedicated lawyer committed to helping women escape toxic marriages, we are drawn into a world where justice and personal integrity collide with fear and manipulation. The narrative unfolds with tension and intrigue as the protagonist grapples with the ethical implications of representing a client she knows to be lying, while also facing threats to her own safety and the safety of her family.

The character development in "The Divorce Lawyer" is both nuanced and compelling, with the protagonist's internal conflict driving the plot forward. As she navigates the murky waters of her profession and confronts the consequences of her choices, readers are kept on edge, questioning where her loyalties truly lie. The supporting cast, including the manipulative husband and the vulnerable woman fighting for custody of her child, adds depth and complexity to the story, further heightening the suspense.

One of the novel's greatest strengths is its exploration of themes such as power, privilege, and the lengths to which individuals will go to protect their secrets. The author skillfully weaves together a narrative filled with twists and turns, keeping readers guessing until the final page. The pacing is relentless, with each chapter ending on a cliffhanger, propelling the story forward with irresistible momentum.

Overall, "The Divorce Lawyer" is a riveting psychological thriller that will keep readers hooked from start to finish. With its gripping plot, well-drawn characters, and jaw-dropping twists, this novel is sure to appeal to fans of Freida McFadden, The Perfect Marriage, and Valerie Keogh. Prepare to be on the edge of your seat until the very end.

Thank you to Netgallery and the publisher for this ARC. The publication date is the 10th May. This is the first book I’ve read from this author and now I am a fan!

This book had many twists and turns that kept me intrigued until the very last page the ending took me by surprise as I had so many theories in my head of what would happen!

My favourite character was Esther as throughout the book I felt like she was trying to make everyone happy and protect her own family despite the circumstances.

Overall, an intriguing plot that was impossible to put down!

I thought this book would have more lead up to the court hearing. I think that would have made a much better story. It was kind of rushed in that aspect, but none of it was that good. Peter is holding something over Esther's head, therefore making her represent him. But it seems like a lot of people think Peter is a jerk; then he ends up dead. Who did it? Who is stalking Esther? Now the ending was def a surprise to me, but overall very average and not for me.

Thanks to NetGalley and Bookoutre for this Advanced Reader’s Copy of The Divorce Lawyer by Ellie Monago due to be published May 10, 2024.
I had previously read The Custody Battle by Ellie Monago (and loved it) so I was thrilled to get this one!
Esther Kahn is an intelligent, hard-hitting, ruthless lawyer who works for women divorcing their husbands. Esther usually gets her clients everything they want and more. This time, though, she must work for Peter Tramboni instead of his wife, Bianca, and it’s killing her. The only reason she is representing Peter is because he knows her secrets and is threatening to tell them. How far will Esther go to protect her family?
In her own words, Esther “might not win every battle, but she wins the vast majority of the wars.” Esther is indeed ruthless, sometimes to the detriment of her clients. Her attitude to want to win is so extreme she ends up hurting even her clients.
Someone is stalking Esther and she has to find out who – Peter’s wife, her “boyfriend”, Hugh or someone else? Esther is a somewhat likeable character, but goes at her opponents with sometimes sinister motives.
The Divorce Lawyer was fast-paced and suspenseful until the end!

Esther is a divorce lawyer who represents women and their children who she feels have been wronged by their husbands. She is righteous in her cause to work on behalf of these women whose husbands are what she considers horrible. When a powerful Silicon Valley tech giant comes to her to represent him in his divorce, she can’t say no. She’s great at her job, but at what cost?

I was drawn to the title and the first few chapters had me intrigued. As the story went on, I found the protagonist unlikeable and insufferable. The cast of characters were a bit all over the place, at times coming out of nowhere in the middle of the story. While the story came together, I was hoping for a plot twist or surprise.

The Divorce Lawyer by Ellie Monago is a psychological thriller. It did have some good twists, but I'm still on the fence if I liked it or not.

I couldn't really connect with any of the characters, and the story felt like I've read this plot before.

It was an okay read for me. There is definitely an audience for this book.

This story is mysterious and intriguing. Red herrings kept me guessing. The fear of the protagonist was almost overpowering…the distrust…the characters were realistic which kept the story moving quickly…thanks Netgalley.

This is a great read, an interesting and fresh take on women standing up for women. It was hard to know where it would end and it's defintely worth a read. It was tense and twisty and i thoroughly enjoyed it!

It is hard not empathize with someone who has - for very personal reasons - become a lawyer, in order to fight for the rights of downtrodden women, and then finds herself on the wrong side of that equation. But like most people, she will go (is going) to great lengths to protect her secrets, and her entitled male client is using that against her go order to make his ex suffer by taking their child away from her...

Ellie Monago has written a gripping story, which keeps the reader fully engaged throughout. You know this cannot end the way it's going, namely badly. So how will the situation be satisfactorily resolved? Well worth a read, it gets 3.5 stars.
