This was such a great follow up to The Which is Back!
Loved getting back to these characters and the witty banter. Just a light & easy read with some magic sprinkled in. Highly enjoyed this romcom.

Thanks to Netgalley and Harlequin Books for an eARC. Leah, a human, is friends with witches but must act like she is unaware of witches. Gabriel, a warlock, is working to take over his deceased parents company but must live among humans with little magic for three months to get the company. Leah and Gabriel meet and there is a spark. Leah ends up helping Gabriel adjust to the human world. Along the way of falling in love they both face feelings of not being accepted by others and family trauma. Included slow burn, banter and pushing each other out of their comfort zones, found family and a few spicy scenes. A cute witchy romance that made me smile.

4 Stars When I first read The Witch Is Back by Sophie H. Morgan, I was surprised and delighted by the fun witchy romance. In the second book from the Toil and Trouble series, De-Witched, I expected to be delighted once again and I wasn't wrong.
As a human, Leah Turner isn't supposed to know that witches exist. That doesn't mean she doesn't take some risks, like attending a masked witch high-society ball with her friends where she shared an almost-kiss with a warlock. Six weeks later, said warlock is the newest employee at the bar Leah owns with her witchy best friends. In order to become CEO of his family company, Gabriel Goodnight must give up his powers and live amongst humans for three months to prove his merit. Leah immediately recognizes Gabriel when he walks into the bar, but he has no idea who she is or that she knows about magic. The two grow closer as Gabriel's time with the humans ticks by and just because they can't be together doesn't mean they can't have some fun while it lasts...right?
This was such a fun, light read! A little predictable at times, but the perfect read if you are looking for a light-hearted, fun, and romantic read with some witchy vibes.

I absolutely loved this book! It was such a good slow burn witchy romance! The broodiness of Gabriel was the perfect companion to Leah’s happy sunshine personality. Gabriel’s character development and the growth of their relationship was heartwarming and so satisfying to see unfold. There were also many funny moments that made this thoroughly enjoyable to read. I highly recommend this to fans of cozy, slow burn romance with grumpy/sunshine and all the witchy vibes!

Sophie H. Morgan brings all the feels in this grumpy/sunshine, opposites attract witchy romance! The second book in the Toil and Trouble series features Leah, ray of sunshine, animal lover, and part owner of the human bar, Toil and Trouble. Leah's cheerful positivity is tested by Gabriel, known in magical society as the Warlock of Contempt, when he is forced to live for three months in the human world to be named CEO of his family's company.
I loved these characters! Leah is the sweetest! Gabriel's disdainful persona is no match for her determination to help him through his time in Chicago. Closed off emotionally to everyone except the younger sister he raised, Leah quickly gets under his skin with her selflessness and determined optimism. Gabriel's character development through his growing relationship with Leah and his work at the animal shelter she has dedicated so much of herself to made him an unforgettable mmc.
While you do not have to have read The Witch is Back in order to enjoy De-Witched, characters from that book play important roles in this book.
Trust, forgiveness, loyalty, determination, and risking it all, this book is everything I love in a romance. Put this on your tbr now!

Super cute! Dewitched follows Leah is a human but has friends as witches! The issue is she’s not suppose to know about them. She meets Gabriel at a ball but was disguised and quickly sees him again when he’s working at her bar. In order to inherit his family’s company Gabriel has to work among humans for 3 months and limit his use of magic.
This is a slow burn witchy romance, and pretty soon the two have to make a choice of what matters to them and can they balance both worlds.

De-Witched is the second book in the Toil and Trouble paranormal romance series, and features Leah Turner, the human friend of Emma and Tia, and part owner of the bar Toil and Trouble, and Gabriel Goodnight, a warlock who is thrust into the human world, without full use of his magic, in order to satisfy a condition in his parent’s will that would enable him to take over the family company.
Before I get any further, I’d like to mention that this is one of those books where the cartoonish cover really doesn’t convey the contents within the book. This book is darker, and sexier, than you’d expect if you were just to pick it up based on the cover art. There are several spicey open-door love scenes, and the backstory of one of the main characters has repeated mentions of parental death. Just a heads up.
When I finished the first book in the series, The Witch is Back, I kind of expected Leah and Kole, Emma’s warlock brother, to be paired in the series. So, imagine my surprise when I read the blurb and discovered that a new character would be introduced as Leah’s love interest. If you enjoy the opposites attract or grumpy/sunshine tropes this will be right up your alley.
Gabriel and Leah first meet on a balcony at Emma and Bastian’s betrothal announcement ball, where Leah is disguised so that the witches and warlocks attending don’t become aware that there is a human amongst them. She is quite aware of the magical world, but always kept on the outside (apart from this one occurrence) and protected by her BFFs since humans are forbidden from this knowledge. There is a connection, but Leah doesn’t expect to see the intriguing man again.
Gabriel Goodnight is a product of an old magical line, and heir to a company that is unique in his world as it employs and caters to both humans and magic users. He is uptight, cold, and pretty much hates humans when the book opens. Readers will learn the reason for this as his backstory unfolds. He has spent years working his way through the company, department by department, in order to gain the board’s approval and move into the role of CEO. Gabriel is blindsided when he is notified there is one last step he must complete before proving himself capable–live and work in the human world for three months, with limited use of his magic, without breaking any of the rules imposed. Despite his absolute disgust at being put into this position, he asks the owners of Toil and Trouble, for employment, unaware this this would put him in contact with the woman he met on that balcony months ago.
As someone who does enjoy the above-mentioned tropes, this book worked for me. I was already familiar with the world-building and character’s personalities and relationship dynamics, so it was easy to just dive right into book two. I do think you could read as a standalone but do think reading the first book in the series will enhance your enjoyment.
Leah and Gabe are a good match-up, one I enjoyed immensely. She is bright and sunny, a people and pet person more intrigued by than afraid of the magical world. Gabe is broody and aloof, determined to stay in his tight little bubble, despite being thrust into a world surrounded by humans. He wears suits to work, speaks only when spoken to, and doesn’t laugh or smile. Let’s just say his unraveling as he falls for Leah is a joy to behold. Their HEA is hard won, but lovely.
I am so intrigued by Tia and Henry. I’m convinced their second chance love story, because surely this author is saving them for the finale of the series, will be glorious. But first, I do believe Kole just might meet his forever person in book three. Regardless, I’m looking forward to whatever comes next.

We’re back in Sophie H. Morgan’s witchy world, but this time we are following Leah Turner, the human owner of the bar and Gabriel Goodnight, a legacy magical being. After an ultimatum makes him lose most of his powers, Gabriel is forced to live on the human world for 3 months in order to gain back his family legacy. Now, if only that odd human would leave him alone…
What I liked: this book was funny with some great romance. This book has so many moments where I just laughed out loud. The amount of shenanigans that Gabriel had to go through was so worth it. Leah was a great character who showed that even while being jealous of being an outsider, she would still do anything to help her friends. I liked that there was a medium burn to the couple’s relationship while also seeing fantastic growth as characters. The characters were multi dimensional and just so much fun to read. It was great seeing some familiar characters, learning where they are now and digging deeper into who they are.
Rating: 4.5 ⭐️ This book was such a fun read just in time for Summerween. I especially love Morgan’s writing when it comes to characters and I cannot wait to read what she writes next!
Thank you to NetGalley, Morgan, and Harlequin Feature for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. De-Witched comes out 8/20!

I really like this book. I felt like she has a unique writing style that I wasn't completely sold on at first. I appreciate the change in pace because of reading a lot of romances they can get very repetitive. I was given a ARC to the first in the series and liked it okay but the second book really felt like she hit her stride. Theres more tension and more banter that I as a reader crave. Don't go into this book looking for a bunch of sex scenes because honestly they are few and far between. The characters are the gem in this book. I loved the main character and her sassy energy with a love for animals. The grumpy/sunshine is a treat and makes you laugh through out. Gabriel isn't not unlikable just very oblivious to what the human world is like. I like that the author didn't make him perfect at his jobs and that he really did have to grow into his own character for him to understand how to love.
I appreciate that friendships were upheld and also placed as important in the series. It didn't feel like they were just side characters to help the plot move forward. But they had depth and their own arcs to accomplish for the story line to progress. Romances that have good friends just feels more developed to me. It doesn't feel like a pick me girl story. As well as the excitement to read the next story and figure out who the new couple will be. Overall its a great read for the spooky season curled up on the couch with a hot drink in hand.

De-Witched by Sophie H. Morgan is a delightful blend of grumpiness and sunshine, making it a perfect example of feel-good literature. This cozy enemies-to-lovers story is filled with mystery, witchcraft, and a touch of adventure, making it a charming read for anyone looking for a bit of magic in their lives. As a fan of all things witchy, I thoroughly enjoyed diving into this enchanting tale.

The second book in the Toil and Trouble series follows the third (and human) owner of a witchy bar in Chicago, Leah Turner, and the super serious Gabriel Goodnight. The grumpy/sunshine vibes were wonderful and you know I love anything that makes me giggle! The relationship between Leah and Gabriel blooms naturally even though he tries to fight it. Leah notices his hot and cold behavior immediately and calls him out on it! She set her boundaries and stuck to them. After his reality check, Gabriel is able to slowly let down his walls and form a stronger bond with Leah.
The theme of teaching a warlock about the human world made the story even better, specifically when Leah taught him about baseball. I was with Tommy while reading portions of this book and would say “THE WARLOCK IS LEARNING ABOUT BASEBALL AGAIN”…and he would look at me like I had three heads.
Sophie H. Morgan did not disappoint with this one and I’m so excited for yall to be able to read it. Thank you to NetGalley, Harlequin, and Sophie H. Morgan for the opportunity to read this wonderful book!

I enjoyed this book even more than the first one in the series. Leah and Gabriel made such a cute couple. I really loved reading about their relationship progress from dislike to love. Leah was such a strong character that I loved seeing her stick up for herself every time she did. And watching Gabriel go from super uptight to realizing what was important to him and opening up to new things was so much fun. I can’t recommend this book enough for anyone who enjoys Paranormal Romance that stays light and entertaining. If you liked the first in this series definitely pick this one up. You don’t have to read the first one to enjoy this one, Sophie Morgan does a good job if filling you in on the small part you need to know from the first book, so you wont feel like you missed anything.

I love books about dogs, and although De-Witched is a romance with witches, warlocks, and sex, the addition of the dogs saved this novel. I read Sophie H. Morgan's, The Witch is Back, but did not immediately realize that De-Witched was the second book in the Toil and Trouble series. I did not realize, or perhaps remember, that The Witch is Back was the first book in a series. De-Witched took longer to get into the story, which seemed a bit slow in the beginning. It was not the bar setting that I found to be the grabber. It was the dogs, especially Chuck, that pulled me into the story.
De-Witched is a novel about romance and class. The process of getting acquainted and discovering love was fun and entertaining. There was humor and some graphic sex which was actually well written, but still, readers should be warned. The story moves back and forth between Leah and Gabriel as narrators. There are themes of acceptance and sacrifice that work well. De-Witched is different than my usual novel choice, but I was entertained and I did enjoy this novel.
Thank you to author, publisher Harlequin, and NetGalley for providing this ARC for me to read and review. I do recommend De-Witched. Sometimes, we just want to escape the world outside.

this wasnt really a book for me. im not sure if its because i wasn't in the mood for what but it felt cringe and I didnt connect much

Okay I loved The Witch is Back, so I was really excited to read De-Witched. While I still liked the book, I didn’t love this one as much as The Witch is Back. There were times the book just dragged, and the flow was not quite as smooth as the first book. That being said it is still a lovely story. I enjoyed Leah working with Gabriel to help him integrate into the human world a bit easier and helping him process his negative thoughts towards humans. The growth both characters go through is just lovely. I do think readers will enjoy this second book; it just personally didn’t draw me in as much as the first book did.
Thank you so much to Harlequin-Romance and Netgalley for allowing me to read an advance copy of this title.

The book that broke my book slump! I absolutely adored this one. Dewitched was a heartwarming, cozy read filled with charming characters and an enchanting world. The presence of cute little animals added an extra layer of delight, with Chuck being an absolute favorite, even with his habit of jumping on people.
Leah and Gabriel are the perfect opposites attract couple. Their banter and initial chemistry were off the charts, making their interactions very fun to read. I did enjoy the Cinderella-esk meeting they had.
This is the second novel in the Toil and Trouble series, and it continues to deliver on the charm and magic introduced in the first book. Leah’s closest friends are witches, but she isn't supposed to know. When Gabriel takes a job at Leah’s bar, their connection sparks a fun adventure filled with humor and magic. Despite their obvious feelings for each other, the tension of whether they can overcome the barrier of him being a witch and her being human adds a twist to their story.
I highly recommend this fall read to all lovers of witches, romance, and grumpy sunshine dynamics! Sweet with a touch of heat, this romantic comedy is a slow burner that is beautifully set up and executed. With a cast of interesting characters and magical elements, Dewitched sets the stage for more exciting stories in the Toil and Trouble series.
Charming and adorable, Dewitched is an absolute must-read. I absolutely adored this book and its very much grumpy/sunshine romance dynamic.

Enjoyed this second book in her series. I like the world building here, and the setting of Chicago modern day. I enjoyed the main male protagonist's journey through his own bullshit, and it was a lovely HEA.

Thank you to NetGalley for this arc!
Sophie H. Morgan is quickly becoming one of my favorite paranormal romance authors. Her worldbuilding and characters are cozy, realistic, and make readers want to stay in her world for just a little longer.
Leah and Gabriel are the perfect opposites attract couple. Their banter and obvious chemistry are off the charts. The obstacles they face are real and don’t feel contrived. I eagerly await the next book in the series and I might just go back and re-read the first one again!

A cute, witchy rom com! Just a fun and light read with a little forbidden love action. Aaaaand it’s part of a “series” but you wouldn’t even know it!

This was such a cute book and I’m adding the first book in the series to my TBR. Love a brooding MMC falling for the spunky FMC. You get fun side characters, witches, and dogs too!
I received an arc from netgalley and the publisher.
