Starting in September, Pizza and Taco are being EXTRA GOOD all in the hopes that Santa Slaw brings them everything they want for Christmas. This is a cute, fun tale about materialism, and realizing that all your really need for the holidays is the company of your best pal.
It may seem odd to read a Christmas book in October, but this book actually starts in September so it’s perfect read. Pizza and taco need to get ready for Christmas if they want to get there super long list ready. They must remember to be good and help others with the hope of possibly getting anything on their lists. This of course is an early reader’s chapter book. It’s quite a lovely and fun read that kids are going to enjoy.
Best Christmas Ever! (Pizza and Taco #8). By Stephen Shaskan. 2024. Random House Children’s (ARC eBook).
It may be September, but that’s not stopping Pizza and Taco from preparing their Christmas List to Santa. How fortunate that they still have time to make sure they are on the Nice List. But maybe the best present Pizza and Taco can receive is their continued friendship.
The illustrations were colorful and entertaining. The readability for the graphic novel format is good. But the ending could have had a more meaningful and layered message about being grateful.

My 2nd grade students love reading Graphic novels. This series is a favorite. I think they will love this christmas edition. It was an easy read for my and I loved the ending and how it circled back to friendship.
This was soooo cute!
The drawings are lovely – they are bold, bright, yet detailed and not simplistic – and the added text is perfect for this tiny Christmas-y graphic novel! I’m sure it will be loved by younger readers when the Christmas comes!
Another great addition to the Pizza and Taco series! As always, I love the simple story line and the unique style of illustration. In this installment, Pizza and Taco are gearing up for the Christmas season. What are they going to put on their lists? Will they make it onto Santa Slaw's nice list? Will they get everything they asked for? Kids are going to love this one!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!
Another cute book from the Pizza and Taco duo! And of course, with the holidays coming up, this is perfect for the young readers who are eagerly awaiting presents from Santa! Can’t wait to share with the kiddos!
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Children’s Books for a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
What a cute story for younger kids. I could see my five year old niece loving this and it being a good beginner reader for her. I wish the lesson of loving and caring for each other being more important than getting all the presents on the list was a little stronger but I think it still does a good job getting the point across.
My kids loved this book! It's super cute and wholesome and kept their attention the whole time during reading. I highly recommend this book and will purchase a physical copy.
"Pizza and Taco: Best Christmas Ever!" is the latest in the "Pizza and Taco" series by Stephen Shaskan. Best friends Pizza and Taco are worried that they will not get presents from Santa Slaw (their food world's version of Santa Claus) so they try to do lots of good things. The story is cute and funny and readers of the rest of the series will definitely want to read it. Recommended for youth graphic novel collections.
What a cute graphic novel! My kids are 5 and 7 and they absolutely loved the silliness of this book. As a parent, I find reading graphic novels aloud pretty difficult because for my not-yet-reading child it's hard for her to identify which character is talking (cue ridiculous character voices out of mom). That said, there was an excellent message in this book - there is (a) no need to ask for so much (b) an importance around feeling grateful for what you do receive/have (c) a focus on friendship being the ultimate Christmas gift. Kids are going to focus on the presents, they can't help it, they are kids!!! So I appreciate that Taco is teaching Pizza about these truths. I do feel that the lesson could have been stated a bit more clearly. I found myself prompting my children to answer questions about what was happening in the story to ensure they were understanding that Pizza's behavior was not appropriate. Both of my children said they would read more books in this series, and I agree. The graphics were adorable, the personalities of the characters were funny and we were able to read the book in one sitting which is always a fun surprise now that we are reading so many more chapter books (with illustrations). 5 stars from us!
I absolutely loved this graphic novel! Pizza and taco return for Christmas time! I love that this novel explores friendship, kindness, and gratefulness. This will be a perfect novel going into the holiday season and would make a great gift for a book loving child. The graphics are simple yet intriguing! Easy to follow along and understand. This will be a hit for the upcoming holiday!
Pizza and Taco is gold in my library! This is another fantastic read in a great series. Pizza and Taco are excited for Christmas and have a long list of hopes pinned on the day. When the Christmas gifts don't go completely as hoped, there's some disappointment, but the friends find a way to put a positive spin on it and find gratitude.
This early reader graphic novel series is perfect for hook for early or reluctant readers!
This was such a cute graphic novel a taco and pizza who are best friends and about having the best Christmas ever and making sure they are nice and not naughty. They both make a list and while they don’t receive everything they wanted, they learned to deal with that and be grateful for what they received. Also it was so cute to see how they tried to be helpful and show Santa Slaw that they should be on the nice list. The illustrations are great and easy to understand and perfect for 1st or 2nd graders.
Thanks to Random House Graphic and Netgalley for the complimentary copy of this book. All opinions in this review are my own.
Cheery Pizza and Taco are back making another list - their Christmas list. I loved that their lists were similar, but they also have some differing interests. I also appreciated that they didn't get everything on their lists and learned how to deal with it. The best part was when Pizza's face when he was trying to match Taco's amount of leaf-raking, but couldn't.
I received an electronic ARC from Random House Children's through NetGalley.
Taco and Pizza are back for more adventures. This time they are thinking ahead to Christmas though it's only September. Both create massive Christmas wish lists and then work at being nice and helpful so Santa Slaw brings everything they want. Readers see how hard they try, and the illustrator offers a clear look at what they are thinking and feeling through their expressions. This includes Christmas morning when both discover they did not receive everything they asked for. I appreciate Taco's gratitude and gifts he made for his friend, Pizza. Both figure out friendship is most important in the end.
A delightful light and humorous read for mid-elementary level readers. By now, they know the characters so can appreciate their personalities and see how they work together and as rivals to be their best.
It’s September and Pizza and Taco decide to write their lists for Santa Slaw. One tiny problem- they haven’t been very good this year. They decide that they have from September to December to be good in order to get everything on their lists. While they end up not getting everything they ask for, they become better friends by sharing their gifts with each other.
If you've liked any of the other Pizza and Taco books, you've got to grab this one too! Pizza and Taco are up to their usual antics but this time with a Christmas theme. I love that it addressed the topic of decorating "too" early and it captured the kid excitement of making Christmas lists. I appreciated that (spoiler) Pizza and Taco do not get everything on their lists but they do share what they get and realize that their previous items and toys can have a new life. This is the perfect addition to your Pizza and Taco collection, an early Christmas or especially an advent gift, If you have a child to buy for, this is a good go-to. If you have an elementary library, this will be a great addition to your Pizza and Taco collection.
