This was a good book although there were some holes in the plot that were confusing and I feel were never answered. I listened to the audiobook and I sometimes got confused as to whose point of view it was. The twist in the end was good.
I like a good psychological thrilIer every now and again, and I enjoyed this audiobook, as I definitely did not see the twist coming at the end.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC.
I’ve listened and read quite a few books by Lauren North and every one of them I have NEVER worked out the plot!! The final twist was completely unexpected and genius, which is what I love and have come to expect from Lauren North’ books. Thank you Lauren North, publishers and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to listen to and review this audiobook. 5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I recommend this suspense novel to anyone looking for unknown twists. The suspense started to built from the very first chapter and kept my attention until the very last. this novel didn't leave anything unanswered, all the pieces connected in the end. The narrator, Emma Woods, was enjoyable to listen to and easy to follow.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bolinda Audio for the ARC.
This audiobook is an excellent listening experience. I was unfamiliar with the author, but I will look for other books by her; her writing is skilled, and her presentation is imaginative and logical. The storyline is fresh, the suspense is built naturally and steadily, and the relevant information is dispensed logically. The ONLY possibly-negative reaction I had was that it became hard to keep the characters straight in my mind as I listened. (There were several young women of similar age, and it became difficult to remember which name went with which personality and character. I think this was at least partially a result of the auditory version. In a printed or electronic version, it would be easier to go back to refresh one's memory about which character is narrating at any given moment in the story.) Overall, this is a story that kept me involved throughout.
I really enjoyed this audiobook. I will look the others books of the author
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC!
Starting off with this is a slow-paced thriller BUT it has some big plots twists! I definitely didn’t expect the ending which I very much enjoyed because usually I can guess the ending of a thriller before it’s even there. I’m not saying I couldn’t figure anything out, I did but I was left with a few questions before the reveal. All this to say, it’s definitely worth reading if you like a slow thriller!
This book immediately makes you start guessing and captures your attention. I love how the chapters are each told in alternating POVs, and each and every character has a secret that hasn’t been revealed yet. While there are four POVs, the narrator is the same. I thought Emma Woods did a great job changing her intonation and inflections to reflect which character’s part she was reading.
If you’re not a fan of cliffhanger chapters, this might not be for you because EVERY chapter ends on a cliffhanger. It really makes you want to keep reading your figure out the many secrets the characters are hiding!
I think you should definitely give this one a shot - especially on audio!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for proving an ALC in exchange for my honest opinion.
This book is told from several viewpoints. The main story of the book is that a substitute teacher is brought in to cover for a teacher who has disappeared with her young son. The missing teacher's husband is the Head Teacher (Principal) at the school. While the story for much of the book focuses on the missing people, it becomes apparent that many people have secrets. As the story continues, each of the secrets becomes teased out for the reader.
There are many twists and turns in the story. And each one becomes a bit more surprising and incredible.
The book takes place in Great Britain so some things described will not be familiar to most US readers, but that won't interfere with your understanding and enjoyment.
I listened to the audio version of this book. The accent of the narrator takes a bit of getting used to, but she is quite good.
Initially I was drawn to this book because of the title and the cover. Overall I think the plot was there, however I found myself getting lost with the character jumps. I was confused by whose point of view we were experiencing and it was really a hard one for me to get through. I listened to the audio book and one of the characters was narrated by someone that seemed to be imitating Moira rose but in a none funny way which I found very distracting. The very end started to pick up, but this one was definitely not for me.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The Teacher's Secret by Lauren North, an audiobook narrated by Emma Woods was full of surprises psychological thriller. OMG, there was so much going on! My head was spinning and I was so confused! Everyone had secrets, everyone was lying, Cate and her son were missing and everyone looked guilty! Like, AAAAAA!
This was so thrilling, so much suspense, anxiety was shooting up and down and the twist was just wow! So all in all, fantastic thriller told from multiple points of view.
When Lexi, the substitute teacher, arrives at a small town to replace the missing teacher, things are intense. Everyone whispers, gossips goes around and no one knows what happened. Lexi feels she is not welcome in this community but she doesn't care, she needs this job.
Oliver can't stay still and tries to pretend things are normal even though he doesn't know what happened to his wife and son. The police are suspicious but he is trying hard to play the right game.
Life in a small community is not easy, everyone knows everyone's business but not everyone knows each other secrets and some of them are dangerous!
Who is behind Cate and her son Archie's disappearance? Who will be the next victim?
Emma Woods opened this audiobook so beautifully! I gasped "OMG I love it" even before I knew the storyline! Perfect choice of narrator! She was entertaining and so many voice changes and intonation!
I liked the musical effects in between chapters! It was so refreshing!
Thank you, Bolinda Audio and NetGalley for the copy of The Teacher's Secret!
"The Teacher's Secret" by Lauren North is an interesting thriller with multiple points-of-view and lots of twists. Can a book have too many twists? After reading this, I think maybe it's possible.
The premise is that a beloved teacher, Cate Walker, and her young son are missing. They are the family of the headmaster (principal), Oliver. A substitute teacher named Lexi is called in to take over the class of the missing teacher. Lexi starts getting threatening notes in her rental apartment.
The audiobook is narrated by Emma Woods. She did an excellent job, but with so many POVs I think at least one other male narrator would have helped. Sometimes I couldn't tell who was talking except for the note right after the chapter number that said whose POV it was from. (Ie. Ch. 8, Lexi).

The Teacher’s Secret had lots of action and twists and turns, just when you think that you know who, there is a plot twist! This novel is told from many different perspectives which is different from most novels. I will read more books by Lauren North as her characters are developed and the story kept my attention well.
This audio book was narrated well by Emma Woods. I wish that each of the main characters could have their own voice or that they are narrated differently as it would make understanding even easier. This is a British book so some of the phrases and pronunciation is a little different but does not take away from the story.
The audiobook is now available.
Thank you to Net Galley, Lauren North, Emma Woods and Bolinda Audio for the opportunity to preview this audiobook and the opinions shared are my own.

I started out iffy about The Teacher’s Secret by Lauren North. My main issues were with the slow progress for most of the beginning and middle and the narration (!). The narrator killed me by not doing a different voice for each of the POVs, of which there were many. It made it hard to keep track of whose eyes we were seeing through in the middle of the chapter, especially when I paused and came back after a while.
Outside of the narration, the novel got infinitely better around the 70% mark when twists, turn, and reveals began. I gasped when characters came out with their motivations and when we finally (and we had to) found out what happened to Cate and Archie.
The Teacher’s Secret follows several characters with secrets who are either involved with or trying to solve the mystery of the disappearance of Cate and Archie. Signs point to the husband, which is a typical trope, but as the novel progresses we learn things might be more complicated than that. And what is the substitue teacher’s motivation for coming to town…?
I am interested in reading more novels by Lauren North now that I’ve made it through my first with her.
Thank you NetGalley for giving me this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
The narration was amazing for this book. I loved listening to the story. The pacing of the book was good, and I found myself intrigued by the missing mom and son. I love domestic thrillers and books involving students and teachers. So happy to have found North's audiobook. Thanks to NetGalley for the copy.
A lot going on at the beginning of the book it was a bit hard to follow for me. A different book than I’m used to. The twist at the end was totally unexpected which is what I like! Thank you !
I love Lauren North's book, they are sooooo easily digestible and her book 'Safe at home' will always be my fave from her. Unfortunately this one didn't blow me out the park.
I'm not used to Lauren writing multiple POVs in her books and there was a LOT of POVs in this one. Listening to the audio version i found myself confused at times. There is only one narrator, narrating different POVs so it was hard to distinguish who was whom. Although kudos to her she did do a good job.
With Lauren's book i always know the final plot twist is going to be wild and unsuspecting and this one delivered. I had my suspicions and only got a couple right.
I wish the book wasn't as long as it was, because it did feel like some chapters were unnecessarily added in and just dragged the storyline.
This is not your typical thriller, it is more of a domestic drama.
Overall it was an OK read.
Thank you to Negalley and Bolinda Audio for a copy of the audio. All opinions and views are honest and entirely of my own.
A fast paced domestic crime thriller told from multiple points of view along a continuous timeline with some glimpses back in time, but in a way that is easy to grasp and adds momentum and suspense to the story and the bonus is that I didn’t guess the ending.
I was absolutely enthralled in this audiobook, the narration was excellent and added to the suspense. I think this is only the second book by the author that I’ve read, but I’ll definitely be in the hunt for more.
