I tried to read this a couple of years back, but kept getting lost in all the ephemera (there are snippets of interviews, news stories, advertisements, etc., sprinkled throughout the book) that interrupts the story. Recently sat down and concentrated on it a bit more and I have to say I really enjoyed it this time around, though it looks like finding a copy of Vol. 2 will be fairly impossible (cheapest used copy on Amazon is $499.99? Really? that's ridiculous). The story follows a group of rock star scientists and their early successes, followed by a falling out. Much of the book follows a group of scientists on a space station who've all been infected with some sort of virus that is creating major changes in each of them. How these two stories eventually intersect is the main focus of this first volume, which reminded me at times of Watchmen, The Manhattan Projects, and even the Fantastic Four. Some really nice artwork throughout, great coloring work by Jordie Bellaire, and the design elements are very well-done, too. I wish I could put my hands on Vol. 2 to see how this all works out, but I'll have to bide my time for now.
