I have been wanting to incorporate more creative hobbies into my free time and I’ve always wanted to take up macrame. Sweet Home Macrame has been the perfect guide to learning the craft. The instructions are very clear and thorough and I really appreciated the guide of tools and materials you will need to get started. The photos are so vibrant and provide wonderful inspiration. Each project is more beautiful than the next - it’s hard to pick just one to start with!
My ARC was provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This was a great book with beautiful photos and detailed instructions. I thought I might be interested in learning macrame and while I enjoyed this book and it was beautifully made and well written, it helped me realize I enjoy other fiber arts more and already have the materials. I might be able to use some of the macrame skills and knots in those other fiber art hobbies in the future after they have a chance to sink in and percolate a bit. You never know, maybe I’ll circle back around lol.
Finally an inspiration for macrame art that is not beige!
The first thing that caught my eye was how colorful the art is in this book. Her designs are wonderful.
The book is clearly structured explaining the different knots with short decriptions and pictures. It has a variety of different projects from the classic plant hanger to lamp shades and ear rings. Including links to the materials and suppliers was very thoughtful.
I would have liked to see even more designs in this book for this price point.
Thanks for the advance reader copy of this book
Thank you to the author, NetGalley, Walter Foster Publishing, and Quarto Publishing Group for a temporary e-ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This book is visually stunning. Sharp, clear, bright, colorful images everywhere. I've already tried my hand at macrame, but I wanted to see her designs and read through her way of explaining the process. The instructions felt very clear to me, and I think they would also be clear to a beginner, especially with the accompanying images.
The only thing that I wasn't a fan of (and it honestly has no impact on the quality of the book) is that she says early on that there will be a lot of color and that if you are more of a neutral person, you can just adjust the designs to your liking. This is so true! However, it seemed that all of the designs were then named after the colors they featured. Personally, I would have tried to name them without the colors in order to continue facilitating the idea that the artist gets to decide what colors to use. Again -- this has no bearing on the quality of the work and is a personal nitpick.
It was a little on the short side, but it also didn't over-explain all of the supplies and equipment which can be a pitfall of some crafting books, presumably to give them length. I think this one had a good amount of projects included without overwhelming the reader with in-depth information they may not even need.

I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the ebook.
This was a great book on how to do macrame. This book has beautiful photos and easy how to guide to do some really amazing macrame art. Highly recommend.
I received a copy of this eBook from netGalley for a honest review.
So colorful and creative! I loved the pictures and projects in this book. I look forward to trying to make some of the projects. The step by step knots was very helpful. I definite beginners guide to Macrame.

I was very interested in checking out this book, but I have to say that for the most part I was disappointed.
There are few projects and many are dedicated to hanging plant pots. The description of the various steps is quite clear, but also a little hasty. I would certainly have appreciated links or QR codes that refer to the videos with the various steps.
Furthermore, there is no clearer explanation on where to start, how to measure and how to take care of the completed project over time.
It's a good book for those who are already familiar with this technique, but it lacks many of the basics.
Thanks Netgalley for letting me preview it.
Great book. Descriptive & informative.
I’ll be trying harder to get the knack of this craft & this book will definitely help.
Photos are great to follow, easy to find and much better to stop & start and catch up as I go.
Whilst 'Sweet Home Macrame' by Casey Alberti advertises its self as a beginners guide, this is only partially true. The first half of the book absolutely meets the brief, with descriptions of the different twine used to make projects and very detailed instructions on how to tie the knots. However, the projects in the second part of the book are far from beginner, with multiple strands being used from the get go, and multiple different colours. For me a beginners guide should let you slowly build up confidence with a craft, and start by using the minimum of materials so that you can decide if you like the craft before spending large amounts of money. I can see myself returning to Alberti's knot instructions, whilst following other people's simpler projects for a while.
Having no prior experience with macrame I found this book an excellent beginner's guide. It starts with a comprehensive list of must have and nice to have supplies followed by a tutorial on the various knots involved in the craft. There is a wonderful array of projects including plant hangers, wall hangings and a lampshade. The knot tutorial and the various projects includes clear and concise written instructions accompanied with photos.
Macrame reminds me of hippies but this book brings it up to speed. The first thing that caught my eye was how colorful this book is. Most macrame patterns I see are a neutral tan color and just seeing some projects in color was so inspiring. I'm pretty experienced with macrame and I still got a lot of this book. The patterns were very detailed and it was clear that you could take them and customize.
Great explanations to various stitches and projects build skills.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC.
Sweet Home Macrame: A Beginner's Guide to Macrame by Casey Alberti gives you instructions and inspiration through a variety of projects.

I would like to start with the fact that my Mother has always been a very crafty person while she was still able to see (fully) and that she tried to nurture our crafty side… no matter if male or female child.
My older brothers were some of the only boys in class who really were interested in crochet, macramé, origami, etc. …so one day my second oldest brother came home with something he had done for mother at middle school.
It was something made by knotting fiber strands/cords like his teacher told him, tada Macramé!
Years later I loved trying my hands on it, and from there I later went further and started creating Friendship bracelets with my friends which are also a type of macramé. This was an awesome trip down memory lane.
The author was kind enough to go through each step by explaining it all well, which I love in regards to people who have never tried their hands on this type of art.
The images are vibrant and crisp. The overall design and page layout were also well done.
The book is separated into three parts, with the last chapter taking up most of the pages. Tools, materials and the knots themselves are explained first so that a novice of this art does not have to fear unanswered questions while going through the steps.
This is a book filled with easy, beginner-friendly tutorials in the last chapter, Designs. From plant hangers to lamp shades we get some very beautiful projects, which can be used as home decorations or as gifts.

So gorgeous and so inspiring for beginners!
This book was beautifully laid out, clear instructions, and very motivating to begin the macrame pilgrimage.
Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Great book for anyone who wants to start a new hobby! It has lovely projects for your house or for gifts across different levels of difficulties and sizes. It's a good book to add to your crafty collection!
Sweet Home Macrame: A Beginner's Guide to Macrame by Casey Alberti is an incredibly well done craft book that offers updated projects to fit a 2020’s sense of style.
The pictures showing how to make the various knots, along with the very clear text make it very easy to follow along to make the projects. (I didn’t have the right materials and just used some scrap yarn to try some of the options.) Helpfully, there are some beautiful things that only require learning less than half a dozen knots. There are also a good variety of projects from the ubiquitous wall hangings to coasters and jewelry. There is a 4 planter wall hanging that I absolutely love, from the multi-hanger, which is something that I have not seen before, to the color scheme that is used.
Although the author discusses how to customize color, size and design, my only tiny note might be to include pictures of the finished projects in several colorways or with some slight variations to help in inspiration.
I’m planning to purchase this when it is published in May. Thank you to Walter Foster Publishing and NetGalley for the eARC.
Cute projects with beautiful full colour photos of the projects and instructions. Casey Alberti made a modern and easy to follow into to Macrame book. She doesn't gatekeep and names her suppliers in the back so you can actually find the supplies you need to make you diy project just as cute. Most of these are online so it may be tricky to source locally.
Coolest/most unique projects: Moody Lampshade & Black & Rose Gold Wall Hanging
Least favourite project Disco Ball Hanger
This short volume demonstrates the knots and combinations of basic macrame. The photos clearly explain how to control the design with tools, ties, and tension to create macrame shapes.
The 12 projects are diverse and range from jewelry to household items to gifts. If you're starting out or trying to get better at macrame, you'll learn a lot. Follow the pictures for guaranteed success.
As a fiber artist and macrame instructor, my collection is brimming with books on knots, designs, and techniques. Yet, "Sweet Home Macrame" stands out as one of the most visually captivating books I've encountered. I'm immensely thankful for this ebook and eagerly anticipate its release in hard copy. Casey Alberti's meticulously detailed instructions cater wonderfully to beginners and seasoned macrame enthusiasts alike. I'm thrilled to witness more of Casey Alberti's designs in the future. Absolutely stunning work!
