A teen/college age sexy romantic drama about a girl who fell in love with (and slept with) a handsome, rich guy who has a girlfriend (they’ve been practically engaged since birth), but neither one of them can get over each other (or stop getting under each other). But neither will he break up with his girlfriend. So what’s a girl to do?
Meanwhile, she’s trying to keep it under wraps from her best friend, his cousin, who just started dating a new shy guy who’s a brilliant history major.
For fans of sexy tension and romantic drama between college students, and who love to wonder, will they/won’t they finally be together? Not recommended for fans of her more complex, historical fiction series, or those who prefer multiple simultaneous plot points.
London Falling by Chanel Cheeton is a romance fiction that place at an international school in London. It is your typical soft romance story line with drama between friends. The writing style was not for me and did not keep me entertained. You may enjoy the store if you read book one in this series as it continues Maggie’s and Samir love story. However, I did read this book as a stand alone and was not at all lost as I think the author did a good job filling in the blanks and catching you up with what you missed in book one.
* Thank you NetGally, Harlequin Trade Pyblishing, and Chanel Cheeton for an eARC of London Falling.
The second installment in the International School series, Maggie finds herself facing down her steamy encounter from last year’s first year at one of London’s prestigious universities. She’s from a small town in the U.S. and he’s a Lebanese heir set to return and train to take his father’s place putting the socioeconomic odds clearly against them. Despite efforts to maintain an innocent friendship, the heart wants what it wants with these two and they must decide how much they’re willing to sacrifice at the cost of their relationship.
I really enjoyed the romance of this book along with the sub-stories of the supporting cast however, the pacing of events seemed jet speed fast and the ability for readers to see Maggie and Samir grow in their communication with each other suffered because of this. I also liked the themes of cultural differences and family differences but also wish this had been examined more as it felt only briefly brushed upon without any substantial depth. Additionally, with the book being set in London, I was expecting more development on the location and how Maggie made the city her home but again, only briefly touched upon so really this story could have taken place anywhere since there was nothing truly anchoring it to London.
I’m intrigued by Fleur’s story so I’d like to pick it up eventually if I’m in need of something light and easy between reads!
This is the second installment in the International School Series. Maggie, Fleur, and Samir all come from different places. Maggie and Samir spend time together and develop feelings just to run into the problem of Samir's dad has already planned his life and has him set up in an arranged marriage. This issue is a big part of the whole book, them trying to figure out how to get around the arranged marriage. It was okay, just not my favorite.
London Falling is the second in a series of stories focusing on students that the International School based in London. The story focuses on the lives of Maggie, Samir, and Fleur. Maggie is from the United States and it used to everyone in her life disappointing her. Samir is from rich family in Lebanon who’s life was planned by his father. Fleur is Samir’s cousin. Maggie and Samir are in love, but it cannot work since his father arranged his marriage to someone else. The continue their relationship until Samir graduates. He had to decide whether to follow his father’s plans for him or decide his own future. With Fleur’s help, Samir decided to use in inheritance and enroll in graduate school to be with Maggie.
I was a huge fan of Chanel Cleeton's I See London when I first read it a few months ago. I loved the diversity and I have a thing for boarding school or traveling abroad books. But what I loved most of all was watching the shift in dynamic of the relationship between Maggie and Samir. I was hopelessly addicted to these characters and their story and my heart about broke at the end. Things were left so up in the air that I was desperate to get my hands on the sequel so I could find out what happens next.
And y'all, I was not disappointed in the least. London Falling was fantastic. If I'm honest, I enjoyed it even more than I See London. I don't want to say too much for the fear of spoilers, but what I will say is this – if you loved Maggie and Samir as I did, you want this book now. It's a beautiful continuation of their story and has all the emotion and heart that I loved about I See London. Was it all happy good times? No, of course not. It was realistic. There were painful moments, just like you would expect from characters who were dealing with the things they were. There were a lot of outside factors, particularly family, causing stress for our leading couple, but despite all the emotions it put me through, it was never TOO much. It wasn't overwhelmingly angsty or painful. Sure, I cried. But come on, did you expect me not to?
Both Maggie and Samir really come into their own in London Falling, continuing the development started in I See London. They're living in the present, enjoying every minute they have together, but they're also looking towards the future and trying to figure out how they fit in each other's lives past Samir's graduation. There's a lot of reflection and tough decisions have to be made. I was completely enthralled with their story and the journey they were taking. With each day that ticked by, bringing them closer to Samir's graduation, my heart broke a little more because of the uncertainty of where it would leave them.
London Falling is everything I love about new adult contemporary books. The characters were fantastic and complex. Even the secondary characters wiggled their way into my heart. There was humor and sexy times, and a TON of feels. I was so invested in these characters, I couldn't put the book down, yet I didn't want to finish because that meant I had to give them up. I still keep thinking about this book and Maggie and Samir weeks after finishing. Their story was brought to a solid close, but I still hold out hope that we'll get more of these fantastic characters in the future, even if it's just a glance into both of their lives as secondary characters in another pair's story.
Chanel has something special here. If you're not reading this, you should be.
Can you imagine finding the love of your life only to know that family obligations make it impossible to be together forever? Even with the insurmountable odds you will root for Samir and Maggie to have that happily ever after as you take the journey with them through the International School that brought them together.
I loved the entanglement of the story and complexity of the characters. The book had closure, but I hold out hope that there will be a book three that will explore what the future brought to Maggie and Samir.
Thank you NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for my ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts.
Could not get through this one fast enough!! I was so intrigued and on the edge of my seat the entire time. Looking forward to more!
(Unfortunately this title is not eligible for an Amazon review).
This felt like a good conclusion to Maggie and Samir. I felt like the first book dragged it out longer than necessary and finally all. of the miscommunication was wrapped up. This wasn't my fav duology and I thought this could have been wrapped up in 1 book rather than 2.
Thanks to Net Galley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review as always, all words are my own.
I love Cleeton's Historical Fiction books about Cuba. But for some reason her New Adult Romance are just not the same quality or even level. (Almost like a completely different author).
This book releases next month and is the second in the series following the same characters. It was ok, but nothing special.
A New Adult romance novel, so 18ish up.
It is mostly a fun light read with complicated relationships, (steamy) emotional tension and likable characters. I did not read book one in this series and really did not need to in order to jump into the story. Samir and Maggie try to balance their future hopes with the realities of responsibilities, and others expectations. I like how both seem to learn/balance each other, but wish they had grown more throughout the novel (without Fleur's interventions).
There are a lot of complex themes--socio-economic gaps, cultural differences, family dynamics... It was a perfect opportunity for some of those complex themes to be developed more. They were a driving force in the plot but weren't fully examined. I also wish the London setting played a more significant role in the novel adding to the cultural contrasts. Still, it was a fun quick read.
If I want a fun light read then I may read book 3, but I don't feel compelled to pick up the next in the series.
what a great story. loved it. Chanel is an amazing writer and sets a great storyline. loved the characters even if it was sad at times
How did I miss these books 10 years ago? I received an ARC of Chanel Cleeton's novel, See London (Book 1 in the series), and was hooked. I was excited to get my hands on the next one, London Falling. It did not disappoint. Through this story, we follow Maggie and Samir's story, in hopes of a good outcome. Angst, family drama, friendships, and steamy sex add to the mix to create a storyline that will have you flying through the pages and disappointed when you get to the end and the book is over. But wait! There is more to come with the 3rd of this series, French Kissed. I'm looking forward to learning more about Fleur and... which the preview chapter implies we will be doing soon!
Thanks, NetGalley and the publisher, for providing me with the ARC ebook I read and reviewed. All opinions are my own.
Maggie and Samir are in love but Samir’s family obligations loom over them. There is tension and major decisions that have to be made. After Maggie and Samir have meet each others families and seen where they come from, what will happen?
Unfortunately, I can't read the pdf file on my e-reader as the font is too small. As a result, I am unable to review this book.
The sequel in the International School series by Chanel Cleeton, and I will admit I didn't realize this was a "new adult' novel but right away it read like a young adult novel but with more mature topics. This was not a book that I enjoyed, too much angst, just a little too much of everything, but I'm sure the right audience is out there.
THIS BOOK WAS AMAZING!! I read the first one, and than ran to net galley to read the second one. I am absolutely in love with Maggie and Samirs relationship. I needed more and am so glad book 2 is about them. I really liked seeing Maggie grow as a person and finding out who se is away from home. That is a major part of college, is finding yourself. I honestly loved book one, but book 2 was even better. The ending was beautiful but I still wanted a little more from Samir and Maggie and hope we get some glimpses of them in book 3.
I couldn’t wait to read this book after reading the first in the series. Maggie and Samir are magnetic and passionate and heartbreaking all at once. I was so involved in their relationship and the big decisions that they both had to make, that I was almost threw the book multiple times as the story unfolded. The dual POV was paramount and it enabled me to get a more comprehensive view of their relationship as I got to see things from both perspectives. As a side note, loved Fleur and Maggie’s friendship, and I’d love to see more about Fleur’s story in the future.
This book just tore me up inside and out. I just couldn’t get enough of these two here. And the way in which they come together and seeing their story being told in such a phenomenal passionate way just had no choice but strike deep to the soul. Cleeton has definitely won me over with this one here, and this is hands down the best book they have written!
Samir and Maggie's' love story heats up London and leaves them falling for each other. The International School brought this unlikely couple together but their families' expectations threaten to tear them apart. Realizing their time is limited, they make the most of the school year but as graduation approaches, will that mark the end of their relationship?
I spent a year working in London and revisiting the city paired with the protagonists' shenanigans made it a fun read. The title can be read as part of the series or as a stand-alone novel. That being said, Samir and Maggie's backstory has readers rooting for them despite seemingly insurmountable obstacles.
Thank you to #NetGalley and the publisher for the early edition of #LondonFalling in exchange for an honest review. Having read both books, I appreciate Maggie's metaphorical journey.. Leaving home and everything she's known to reinvent herself in London was difficult but now it's her adopted country. Maggie can freely be herself and that attracts Samir. Will the two be able to fight society's expectations and carve out a future together?
