Creepy, dark and suspenseful, I could not put the book down until the end, to see if my suspicions were correct.
Great thriller! Laura and Denise are sisters when Laura is driving, crashes, and Laura and her unborn baby are killed. Now Denise lives with "survivor's guilt" and after being in a coma for a month, Laura's husband, Connor takes her to his home as she's on crutches. After a quick four months he proposes and they marry. And then the "fun" begins! Taking medication for anxiety, Denise is so confused as her memory is flawed: her yellow toothbrush is suddenly blue, her sister's picture has a malevolent grin on it, and she can't seem to remember which house in their new development is theirs--often going into the "wrong" house and finding other people! What's going on? Read it and find out; it's a gem!
Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC!
Once again, Nolon King and Lauren Street have come up with another winner! This is the second book in their Replaced series and, while each is a standalone story, they all deal with a similar theme and ideas. In this book, it became kind of obvious what was going on but the mystery was how it was being done and why. Once everything was revealed, things were resolved a bit too quickly for me. This was a fast paced, suspense filled story and I was rooting for Denise, wanting her to stop being so trusting so she could see what was being done to her. I'm hoping that there will be more books coming out in the Replaced series. I'd love to read more from these talented authors!
Thank you. NetGalley for a very enjoyable ARC!
In Her Place by Nolan King and Lauren Street was a bit of a disappointment to me. I found the book to be completely predictable with little to no surprises. I could have told you from the very beginning what would happen and I would not have been wrong. The writing was
Denise Grady was in a car crash killing her sister and unborn nephew, but she survived to struggle with survivors guilt. With no other family around, her brother-in-law steps and they lean on each other for support and to grieve. The next thing we know, they are living together and getting married and he buys a new house that they can start over with - unfortunately it is in a new development with very few finished houses, leaving Denise isolated with only a couple of neighbors for company. Shortly after, Denise starts to get confused and thinks she is going crazy like her mom did. Is it schizophrenia or is something else happening to her?
I know many reviewers really enjoyed this book and I really wanted to, but I just couldn't do it. I give this book 2 stars. Thank you to NetGalley and Sterling & Stone for this ARC in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
In Her Place is an easy-read, but from the beginning I could make who was the villain of the story. Nevertheless, the book is well-written and kept my interest all along the difficulties faced by Denise in her new home and with her new acquaintances. Entertaining!
I thank the authors, their publisher, and NetGalley for this ARC.

📚MY REVIEW:
Nolon King and Lauren Street are back again, with Book 2 in the Replaced series...This book was the perfect twisted combination of domestic thriller and psychological thriller!
Our main character, Denise, is an unreliable narrator - one of my favorite kinds of MCs. After a terrible accident kills her sister, Denise marries her sister's husband. Y'all, this book could have been titled "Gaslighting," and it would have been an understatement. So intense was the gaslighting, I questioned if maybe I wasn't remembering what I'd previously read accurately. This book was, at times, so baffling that I genuinely felt as if I was the one being gaslighted as I read it.
This book was a twisted story that kept me on my toes as I tried to sort out just what in the holy hell was going on. The story was well written and the terrifying confusion of the MC was palpable.
I loved the first book of the series, Replaced, and In Her Place did a great job of taking the concept even further. I will say, there were parts of the storyline that felt a little over the top to me (she married her sister's husband?!). And I wished the conclusion of the book would have lasted a little longer, because it felt as if the story wrapped up too quickly for me to feel fully vindicated after all the damn gaslighting I experienced while reading the book.
I absolutely recommend this book and this series! Bingeable and captivating, both books can be read as a series or as standalones! This was an entertaining read, especially if you really love domestic thrillers. But settle in for a wild ride...
A huge thank you to NetGalley and Sterling and Stone for this advanced copy in exchange for my honest review!

Denise was bringing her sister, Laura, back from the baby doctor when the breaks failed and their in an accident. Laura and the baby are killed and Denise is badly injured. Her brother in law, Connor, comes to visit her in the hospital and when she’s released, she goes home with Connor. Connor takes care of her and then proposes to her.
They marry and move to a new house. That’s when things start getting weird. Denise is paranoid, seeing different flowers in her sister’s wedding picture. Plus her facial expressions keep changing. Denise is confusing the neighbors up and thinks she hears her sister’s voice. Is Denise having a breakdown or is something else going on.
Told in Denise’s point of view, except for the very end. I myself like at least two or three pov’s. Another thing that bothered me was her marrying him only several months after the death of her sister. It will keep you in suspense. Several errors.
* Voluntarily read and reviewed for Netgalley *
I usually love these two authors but I had to DNF this book at 25%. It just wasn’t for me. I didn’t find the characters at all interesting and I wasn’t invested enough in the story to keep reading.
Oh my goodness! I absolutely loved Pretty Killer by Johnny B. Truant and Nolan King.
So I was thrilled to receive an ARC of In Her Place by Nolon King and Lauren Street.
This was a riveting, page-turning thriller that I couldn’t and didn’t want to stop reading.
Overall, this is a captivating, intriguing, page-turner. Great storytelling and amazing read.
Thank You NetGalley and Sterling & Stone for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Highly recommend this great plot with many twists that will keep you guessing throughout the entire book!!
Quick read with a complex plot; multiple inconsistencies lowered the star rating for me - difficult for narrative to flow smoothly.
You two have done it again! I loved the first book so much and couldn’t want to get my hands on this one and boy this was a treat!
This book was so thrilling and ate it right up. the suspense kept me turning as quick as I could.
I think this author is going to be in my tops each time.
In Her Place by Nolon King and Lauren Street was an excellent book from start to finish. Once I opened my kindle and started to read it I was hooked and ended up reading this book in one sitting.......It was fast paced with excellent twists and turns throughout that will have you cancelling your plans for the day and have you sitting on the edge of your seat! Just Brilliant.
I highly recommend this book. I loved it. Looking forward reading the next book by these brilliant authors.
Big Thank you to Netgalley and Sterling & Stone for my ARC.
"In Her Place" is a gripping thriller that keeps readers guessing from start to finish. After a tragic accident, Denise questions her sanity as strange events unfold, leading her to doubt everyone around her. Despite some inconsistencies, the novel delivers a fast-paced plot with unexpected twists that will leave readers hooked until the very end.
Thank you to @NetGalley, Lauren Street, Nolan King and Sterling and Stone for my free arc to read and review!
As soon as I saw this was available on NetGalley, I claimed it as fast as I could! After reading 'Replaced' last month and LOVING it, I knew this would be just as great and I was not wrong! This is the second in the 'Replaced' series but a stand alone with a whole different story and different characters. LOVED, LOVED, LOVED it so much!
This was a very fast read that i devoured in a couple hours! I could NOT put this down and it kept me at the edge of my seat! Very suspenseful and thrilling!
Denise loses her pregnant sister in a terrible car accident in which she was driving. After waking up from a coma, weeks later, Lauren's husband has stayed by her side, day in and day out. He takes care of her during her recovery, inviting Denise to live with him. Friendship turns to love and they marry a few months later. Soon after coming home, Denise starts having delusions, forgets things, gets seriously confused about situations and questions who she is.
Her neighbors in their new neighborhood are very mysterious and have her dumbfounded. She keeps getting them all mixed up. This one married to that one, but no, she's got it wrong again. Then they start calling her Lauren, her dead sister, making her even more confused. She even wakes up in a different house every morning or so it seems.
What is wrong with her? Is she becoming schizophrenic like her mother or is it just grief and her recent head injury? Not everyone is who they seem to be.... who can Denise trust and who can she turn to for help?
Fans of Frieda McFadden and Daniel Hurst will LOVE this thriller!
This was an amazing book! I had suspicions throughout but I kept questioning everything with how believable the suspicious characters were. I had no idea if Denise was crazy, if her sister was back from the dead or if Connor was a villain. I couldn’t put this book down, I was dying to know what was going on. This would have been an easy 5 star for me except 2 big inconsistencies in this book. Denise was said to have an Etsy store she relied on for income and was behind on orders after the accident but then later it states she gets paid from the company and just opened her Etsy store after her recovery. The second one is Denise said how she couldn’t cook, her sister was the amazing cook but later on Denise is happy to get back into cooking again. I thought they might get explained away if the book went a certain way but it seems like just plot error. Overall an amazing page turner.
Thank you to Sterling and Stone, NetGalley, Nikon King and Lauren Street for the opportunity to read In Her Place. Denise is put in a perilous position when after surviving the car crash that killed her sister and and her sisters’ unborn baby she is taken in by her former brother in law. In a few short months he sweeps her off her feet and convinces her to marry him but is he in love with her? Or worse, does he have ulterior motives and she has put herself in grave danger by being with him?
After their wedding they move to a development that for unknown reason has been abandoned and with only three other families they take up residence and the terrible games begin. Someone is gaslighting her but who? Is it her new husband? Is it one of the couples that live in their small circle? Can she find out the truth before she ends up dead?
Did you read Replaced? This one is even better! These two talented authors are a collaboration made in reader’s heaven and this book is a trip. Whose perspective can be trusted is a question which must be considered before you even start to tackled trying to work out the actual plot. Well written, clear and credible dialogue and a knack for description makes this an immersive read.
From Goodreads :
Her perfect life is a lie… but who’s the liar?
Denise Grady is supposed to be dead.
After a car crash claims the life of her sister and her nephew, Denise is ravaged with survivor’s guilt. She finds solace in the arms of the only person as shattered as she her sister’s widowed husband.
Their shared grief turns to love, and the pair restart their lives together. They purchase a house at the edge of a master-planned community. And for a moment, life seems perfect.
But perfection is fragile, and reality has cracks.
Denise’s toothbrush changes color. The expression on the painting above the mantle subtly changes from a smile to a scowl. And the presence of her dead sister lingers… Denise swears she can even smell her perfume and hear her voice.
Her therapist calls it survivor’s guilt.
But Denise thinks something else is happening.
Something is pushing her in a dark and dangerous direction, towards the same path her mother once walked. As the line between reality and madness blurs, Denise must unravel the truth that lurks beneath the shadows of her perfect life.
This book really brought home the topic of Gaslighting. Sure this was an extreme example but I believe most of us can relate. At sometime in our lives someone has tried to pull something over on us..At first I thought, how naive is this woman that she can't see through what her new husband is doing to her. As the story went on she really begins to doubt her sanity. She finally finds someone that forces her to take a step back and really examine things. Me being me I would have like to see more retaliation towards her husband.
This book was far too fast paced for me to really get into it. Within the first few chapters the accident happens and Denise has fallen for her ex brother-in-law and they are married. Then all the strange things start to happen and while it definitely does have you guessing early on, you can tell what is going on before the final twists are able to shock you. Overall a fast and easy read with a lot of twists but was a 2 for me.
This book was a RIDE.
It will have you hooked from the very first page!
Laura and Denise are sisters, very close ones at that. One afternoon together, an accident changes everything.
After Laura’s tragic death, Denise finds comfort in Laura’s husband, Conner. Denise finds herself feeling constantly guilty and selfish.
After many “coincidences”, Denise questions if she is experiencing survivors guilt or losing her mind.
Thank you to netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read this amazing page turner!
