I loved how fast paced this one was and the homage to early 2000s television. I wasn't expecting the magical realism and while it took me a bit to catch on, I ended up getting hooked. I feel like if you grew up watching shows like Gilmore Girls or Dawsons Creek you'll enjoy reading this book.
Okay, this was such a cute read. It was a little slow at first, but once I got started, I couldn't stop. I love me a book with some magical realism and this book had such a cute concept. I really loved the ending and the message that came with it. 10/10 would recommend.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC! I absolutely loved Prime Time Romance. The concept was incredibly unique, and I found it thoroughly entertaining from start to finish. Brynn and Josh were such adorable main characters with great chemistry, and their journey had me hooked the whole way through.
I've never seen Dawson's Creek, which this book is loosely based on, but after reading this, I definitely want to check it out. I loved how the author transported Brynn and Josh into the world of Carson’s Cove, blending reality with the fictional drama of a beloved 2000s TV show. It was so fun watching them navigate the chaos of the show's plot while dealing with their own budding feelings.
Brynn’s journey from heartbreak to finding herself—and maybe even real love—was a joy to read. And the dynamic between her and Josh was the perfect mix of sweet, funny, and romantic. I loved the unexpected twists, the meta feel of being inside a TV show, and the way things unfolded in surprising but satisfying ways.
If you’re a fan of lighthearted romance with a touch of nostalgia and a clever plot twist, this book is a must-read. Highly recommended!
Y’all. I absolutely loved Prime Time Romance by Kate Robb. I started & finished reading it in one sitting, which wasn’t my plan but I was immediately locked in after the first couple of chapters. I legit started writing my review in my notes app the second I finished reading it >>> It’s 2:27 AM & I have just finished reading Prime Time Romance & I am immediately writing this because I feel so giggly & giddy & I want to hold on to these happy, fizzy feelings for a bit longer before I go to sleep. (And who knows if I’ll wake up in a whole new fictional universe??) This book is so dang cute; it makes me want to flop on my bed & kick my legs in happiness, like a TV show teen who was just asked out by their longtime crush.
This book is perfect for any millennial raised by teen TV dramas. (Hi, hello. That’s me. Raised on the Hellmouth & conditioned from an early age to require ridiculous levels of angst with my TV dramas.) I love the main characters - Brynn & Josh - & their romance journey from basically strangers to friends to lovers. All while also being the pawns in the strange game of Carson’s Cove. (Other tropes include: forced proximity & a dash of forbidden romance.) We also get heaps of the whimsy, wonder, & magical realism that I am quickly learning to expect from Robb’s books. Page to page, chapter to chapter, I read this book with a silly smile on my face the whole time.
Bonus: This books is stuffed with teen TV show easter eggs, giving nods to Riverdale, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Friday Night Lights, One Tree Hill, Gilmore Girls, &…of course…Dawson’s Creek. I tried to keep a list of the references, but I am sure I missed so many. Oh no, I guess I’ll just have to reread the book!
Thank you to NetGalley & Random House Publishing Group for providing a digital advanced copy for review. All thoughts & opinions expressed are my own.
I DNF’d this around 40%. I just could not connect with the characters or the story. I found the premise interesting but the FMC was so immature for the age she was supposed to be
This was a very cute book! The premise was really unique.. I loved the whimsy and nostalgia in this story.
The characters were well written. I really enjoyed that the story was told from dual POVs. It really allowed me to get to know each of the main characters.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review!
Thank you to NetGalley, Kate Robb, and The Dial Press for an advance reader copy of this book. Below is my honest review.
In the tradition of 1990's teen/young adult TV dramas we have Prime Time Romance. The author even ends with a series of Easter Egg Hunts the reader might have caught throughout the book. I confess I haven't watched one of those shows. I did see the movie Pleasantville and recognized the basic plot of going back in time to a beloved TV show. I was able to enjoy the story with only the one reference, but would another reader appreciate the multiple scenarios from so many shows?
I'm left wondering about Sheldon, the uncredited extra from the cancelled TV show. How exactly did he make all this happen? Was he the devil or just an actor with an unusual talent? The main characters from the real world, Brynn and Josh, are nice enough but Brynn wore thin about halfway through the story. The people of the town are more Hallmark movie types where everyone somehow knows how to waltz. The main TV show love interest, Spencer, is a cardboard cutout who spews amazing monologs, and his hair is always just so, perfect for a teen TV show. He's annoying in real life but I get his appeal to an audience of girls. I applaud the idea and the work that went into the story but it fell flat.

This is my first time reading Kate Robb and I was so excited to read this Prime Time Romance- the description alone makes it hard to resist! Just imagine wanting waking up and being transported to your favorite character in the series you are watching and the only way to get home is to finish out the ending (you and main character together).
I enjoyed this book it was cute and the concept was enjoyable. Carson's Cove reminds me of the types of shows I enjoyed.
If you love: friends to lovers, small town romance, and magical realism type of books then I would recommend this book.
All the stars in the world to this book! 🥹 I absolutely loved every single thing about it…and that is not something I say often. The story as a whole was just so inventive and I was sucked in immediately. It gave me all the feels and all of the emotions. I laughed out loud quite a lot (especially when Josh and Brynn couldn’t curse 🤣), and I even shed some happy tears at the end…after my heartstrings were tugged somewhere in the middle. The setting was a dream for anyone who grew up watching 90s prime time shows, specifically Dawson’s Creek, and the characters were well developed, lovable and relatable. Pretty sure this just landed the top spot on my list of favorite romances this year. Bravo, Kate Robb! 👏🏻
Thank you NetGalley for sending me the EARC of this book!
⭐️3.25 stars rounded down⭐️
What would you do if you got stuck in your favorite show and learn that life in that town isn’t as perfect as it seems? Well, Brynn finds out exactly what that’s like. Throughout her time in Carson’s Cove she realizes she doesn’t want the perfection of the town, but she find her version of perfection.
The story was intriguing and different for sure, but I really didn’t feel too connected to the characters. It was a cute enough read with a HEA so what more could you ask for lol
This was a nice rom-com, with good writing and a cute plot. I am of a certain age where I also was addicted to early 2000s teen dramas, and the homage and references to Carson's Cove that I could attribute to a handful of shows in real life was super entertaining. Super nostalgic and the author did a great job, I liked the main female character, but the execution and comedic aspects fell a little flat for me. I didn't "feel" the romantic plot as much as I wanted to. Otherwise, it was a fun read.
Loved this one. It was just as good as her debut. It reminded of Ashley Postens Novel Love story mixed with Dawson creek. I love that we are seeing more magical realism instead of just Ashley Posten. Kate Robb is now quickly becoming anew favorite.
If you ever wish you could fall into a TV show, and have a HEA this one is for you!
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the eArc on this book for my honest review.
Prime Time Romance will bring you back to all the shows you watched and LOVED in your teenage years (and probably beyond)! They are the shows that there is always a lesson to be learned, but everything ends of working out in the end. In this book Brynn makes a wish on her30th birthday and it takes her and her roommate Josh into Carson's Cove (her favorite show). They are told that Brynn, now the main character Sloan, has to finish her story in the way the show should have ended. Brynn quickly realizes that there are so many things different when she is living the life of Sloan than she though should/would happen. Does Sloan make it back into her real life? Read Prime Time Romance to see.
Have you ever been watching a show and wishing you could step into your favorite character’s life? Did you ever have your favorite show get canceled and it never got the ending everyone was waiting for?
Kate Robb amazed me again with this one. Definitely an auto buy author for me now. I loved the nods to all of the classic teen dramas but with a slightly sinister twist. Such a fun concept and ai loved Brynn getting her second chance at love when she felt like love let her down. Hits home a little but gives me hope.
Thank you to NetGalley, Kate Robb, and Random House for allowing me to read an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This was a feel-good read that reminds me of Dawson’s Creek meets The Good Place.
After making a 30th birthday wish, Brynn ends up in Carson’s Cove, the set of her favorite 2000’s teen drama, with her roommate, Josh. However they aren't there as themselves: she is playing one of the characters, Sloan, who fans believe never got the happily ever after she deserves, and he is playing the bad boy Fletch. So what happens when Brynn (now Sloane) begins to fall for the wrong guy?
I love how Kate Robb always puts a unique magical twist in her books, and the concept of this was unlike anything else. She made the story of Carson’s Cove come to life with fully developed subplots and a full cast of dynamic characters. I loved Brynn and Josh together, but I would have loved even more angst and heartfelt moments between them as their love story moved pretty quickly.
Read if you like:
-2000s TV nostalgia
-Magical realism
-Lighthearted reads
-Friends to lovers
Ahh! I loved this book so much! What a fun story to follow! I feel like I was watching a tv show myself instead of reading it. Kate Robb does an amazing job of making you feel like you're living the story. Prime Time Romance is about Brynn and her roomate Josh who get stuck in a well know tv show Carson's Cove, a comfort tv show just like Dawson's Creek or Riverdale. It's up to Brynn and Josh to give Carson's Cove the ending it never got. Such a unique story and I had so much fun reading it. Thank you to Random House Publishing and NetGalley for this advanced copy!
I think this was specially engineered to appeal to me, so it would have really needed to miss the mark for me to not have a good time. I loved her last book, This Spells Love, and this was a great follow up. I absolutely loved Pleasantville, and grew up on Dawson’s Creek, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and even Vampire Diaries, so I enjoyed all the homages to my favourites. I will say I don’t think this version did the Pleasantville concept as well or as in-depth, and some would say you should never do the same thing unless you can do it better, but I nevertheless had a fun time with this one.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
Prime Time Romance by Kate Robb has such an interesting premise. For everyone that enjoys teen soap shows and if you've ever wished you could wake up in your favorite show, this book is for you. Even though this would be an amazing thing for so many people and it is such a thought-provoking storyline, I never fully connected with the story. The "real-life" experienced by Brynn and Josh in Carson's Cove didn't correlate to the episode they watched at the beginning of the book, I had so many unanswered questions. But, that aside, there were a lot of really cute and fun moments in the book that I enjoyed, I just wish some things were explained fully.
This was such a fun and unique read filled with the whimsy and throwback feels. The story will remind you of the 90's movie Pleasantville by being thrown into your favorite tv show premise and then you have all of the references my favorite tv shows growing up made this story that much more enjoyable because it was my own little easter egg hunt as I read realizing what shows were being referenced. I liked Brynn and Josh together, I just wish the book was a little longer to be able to see the relationship develop better as it felt a little rushed, but I loved seeing how Brynn evolves in the story. Definitely recommend if you're looking for a little 90's/early 00's nostalgia.
What would you think if you found yourself in the middle of your favorite TV show playing a character you know and love in a world that means the absolute world to you? Your job should you choose to accept it is to give your character the happily ever after with everyone on pins and needles waiting for before it got canceled..
This is what happens to our main character Brynn makes a wish on a birthday cake and gets herself and her gorgeous roommate Josh pulled into Carson's Cove. A fictional place that has given Brynn so much comfort through all the hard times. She is excited to play her part and get that HEA. Josh while having watched a few episodes has no idea what he's getting into. Both Josh and Brynn have no idea how much they need this, and watching them fall for each other along the way while trying to fulfill the purpose of the show was so much fun, and had me kicking my feet in glee at all the moments between our couple, and I thoroughly enjoyed this from beginning to end.
