I have to say Kate Robb has easily become one of my favorite authors. Her stories are adorable and creative. I very much enjoyed it and finished it in one sitting because I couldn’t stop reading it. I would definitely continue to support more by Kate Robb in the future. I loved the story line and especially the characters. Both Brynn and Josh were adorable. I enjoyed the concept of being stuck in a romance/teenage drama tv show. I was very content with the ending. Thank you to NetGalley, Random House Publishing Group and Kate Robb for the ARC of Prime Time Romance. I can’t wait to have a physical copy.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
For fans of A Novel Love Story, Prime Time Romance has a very similar plot and execution! A good love story with a couple good spicy scenes.
Brynn's life isn't going how she planned. Her so called "friends" forgot her birthday, she broke up with the love of her life who was supposed to be her happy ending. And now she can't stop watching reruns of her favorite comfort show on Netflix. Until one day she makes a birthday wish and finds herself in her favorite show, trying to create a happy ending for herself, and a happy ending for the show that never got to be.
A really cute novel! Read a bit YA. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4.
Do you have a cozy multi coming of age tv show you loved watching? Maybe you still love watching? Ever fantasized you were Rory? Blair? Well this book is perfect for you! I loved the set up and the execution!
Also- I’ve already rewatched pleasantville and restarted Gilmore girls this week because of the nostalgia, this author made me feel from her work.
Thank you for the advanced copy, my thoughts are my own.
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing for providing the ARC.
As someone who loved both Pleasantville and Dawson's Creek, this book seemed to be right up my alley. But all of it fell short.
Despite the fact that this book is over 300 pages, the pacing never felt right. The first part of the book held so much promise, but the second that your arrive in Carson's Cove, it completely falls apart. There is no lead up or tension between the two main characters. The plot is flimsy at best. And honestly, everyone was so unextraordinary that I couldn't connect with any of the characters. I was also distracted by trying to figure out if the things lifted directly from Buffy were done intentionally or not, and I actually found that more interesting than the story itself.
It's fine if you want a little escapism and to relive the TV chokeholds of the late 90s and early 2000s, but mostly I just found it a bit disappointing.
Where are my magical realism girls at? This one is for you!
Brynn loves watching her 90s comfort show, but then she gets magically sent to the island of Carson's Cove and has to give the main characters a happy ending.
I enjoyed it on audio, but I switched between that and the ebook. This is my second Kate Robb book and I have loved both. She definitely knows how to write a leading man! There are two open door scenes, but if you aren't into that they can be skipped easily.
Check this one out if you:
Grew up watching teen dramas
Love forced proximity and roommates
Can suspend your disbelief
Want to giggle at some cliches from our favorite TV shows
What is your comfort show?
After a painful divorce, Brynn isn’t sure she believes in love anymore. Except for the kind that happens on TV—specifically her favorite 2000’s soap, Carson’s Cove. Although, sadly romance didn’t win in that one either. The show was canceled after ending on a cliffhanger where the will-they-or-won’t-they main couple Sloane and Spencer never declared their love. Still, it’s her comfort show. Which is why she’s watching it after a not-so-great 30th birthday where her roommate, bartender Josh, had to leave work early to make sure she got home safely. When a mysterious birthday cake shows up at her and Josh’s door, Brynn wishes for a happily-ever-after like the one’s in her favorite show (tip to readers: don’t make wishes on birthday cakes with unknown origins) and the next morning she and Josh find themselves stuck in Carson’s Cove. Brynn is Sloan and she’s told she can’t leave until she finally makes things work with Spencer. Josh is told to play the role of town bad boy Fletch, but what happens when Brynn starts to wonder if life in Carson’s Cove is the one she wants after all?
This was a sweet, creative romance told in the dual POVs of the main characters. I was definitely rooting for Brynn and Josh and it was fun seeing what they were each willing to do to sacrifice for each other. The more we heard about the show and learned about the characters, it started to sound more and more awful, but I suppose that’s true of any of the soap opera-y teen dramas so many of us watched (really, how many people can date Dylan? Or Brandon? Or Kelly?). I think romcoms readers will definitely find a new book boyfriend in Josh, and have a lot of fun reading this one.
The audiobook had dual narrators who both did a great job giving voice to the characters. I’d definitely recommend it for audiobook fans.
Prime Time Romance by Kate Robb
Happy Publishing Day! I really needed this after reading a very intense 550 page novel. Usually it takes me longer to read a romance novel but this one was a quick read for me. Picture a mash up of Dawson’s Creek, Pleasantville and The Good Place with sprinkles of Riverdale and One Tree Hill. It’s a heart-warming romm-comm fused with magical realism and alternate universes. A very unique premise. Strong character development with the FMC. Easy and fun read.
4 stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thanks to netgalley and publisher for this arc.
While I liked this spells love the first book from Katie this was just meh. I thought I'd love the vibes as a 90s baby but I didn't at all, also hate a love triangle so wasn't a fan plus the vibes were creepy and weird once in the cove. Overall just a meh book and the chemistry was missing from leads sadly as well.
I am big fan of Kate Robb. I loved her first book This Spells Love and was so excited to read Primetime Romance. I really loved the premise of this book, Brynn and her roommate Josh are magically tossed into her favorite teen soap opera Carson‘s Cove (yes I love that play on Dawson’s Creek. I was a huge huge Dawson Creek fan.). If you enjoyed the movie Pleasantville, then this is right up your alley. I laughed out loud with all the 2000s soap preferences. I was fully invested in all those shows and also find comfort and re-watching the Classics! I really enjoyed reading this book and definitely recommend it to everybody.

Let’s start with what I liked, I give the author a lot of credit in establishing a tv show that holds a lot of importance to the FMC. The overall importance of the tv show and characters in the tv show was explained and developed well in the book, so that as the reader I didn’t feel lost or overwhelmed with all the characters. I liked that we get to learn the tv show characters motivations (during the show and now) and character development that they go through (both good or bad) that makes the people in the tv show world feel real and in doing that makes them believable both for the FMC and us the reader.
As for the two leads, individually they were both great they were dealing with their own issues most of the book and I think that's where most of the problems come in, they didn't seem like a romantic potential couple but more as two people that had some issues they were dealing with that they had to face because they were transported into a TV show, and that would be fine but this is a romance book and I didn't feel any romantic tension between them. I think what I really wanted was those leading up to romantic moments where you could see the potential, what we get is them going from roommates (not really friends more like acquaintances) to people that are thrown into this crazy situation, to more than half way into the book bam! They have romantic feelings (that honestly feels like came out of nowhere). What's going to convince me that they stay together once they’re out of this situation?
Leading up to the end we had more of a telling instead of showing, especially for the event that the book was leading to. I think it was just a missed opportunity.
Regardless, it’s still a fun read.
Solid 3.5 stars

Brynn is a die hard Carson cove fan and watches reruns almost nightly. After a rough divorce and an exhausting night out she wakes up and finds, she’s the main character Sloan. Now it’s her job to make the boy next store realize he loves her.
Who doesn’t want to wake up one day in their favorite tv show? I found Brynn to be quite enjoyable and relatable. Don’t even get me started on Josh because I’m still swooning. I’m replacing Miles as my fictional boyfriend of the year I think🤭
Definitely recommend if you’re a Dawsons Creek fan, or just a fan of early 2000s shows. Fun and whimsy read for a weekend at the beach🫶🏼🌊🏖️
This book was a magical read. Prime Time Romance by Kate Robb follows Brynn and her roommate Josh who get sucked into her favorite tv show to fix the cliffhanger the canceled show ended on. This book had lots of Dawsons Creek, 90’s/early 2000’s vibes, which I loved!
Thanks to NetGalley for the early copy.
Prime Time Romance is a unique and wild ride into Brynn’s favorite sitcom. Brynn and her roommate are transported into her beloved show upon a wish on her birthday. Everything is so exciting for Brynn until she realizes she’s stuck in the show to complete the MFC perfect forever ending. Brynn starts to notice things in the small town aren’t what they seemed on the show but ends up finding love.
This book had interesting promise but I feel like it fell short on the transition into the show and details of the plot. Overall a decent read. Thank you to NetGalley, Kate Robb and her team for providing me with an advanced copy.
I was excited when I read the prologue of the book when I requested it as I haven’t really dived into too many magical realism books and this one seemed fun!
Loved the writing, very easy to follow and well written. The dialogue flowed really well and it was really funny and cute! I enjoyed the way the magical elements were presented and how the story developed including the character development inside and outside the “tv show.”
Something I kept going back to was that the beginning of the book and Brynn’s life in the “real world” would’ve been interesting and kind of wanted a story of what that would’ve been like 🤔
The romance was okay! I feel like Josh was very charming and loved how quickly they got comfortable with each other but it an non awkward way since the story was very fast paced but wish there would’ve been more pining and full on romance.
It was a reminder that sometimes what seems to be the “perfect” life doesn’t necessarily mean it is or it’s what would make you happy, and that you should make the best of your life and or not wait to be happy when you have everything you think you need to start.
Thank you to NetGalley, Kate Robb and Random House Publishing for the opportunity to read this ARC!
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Penguin Random House for this advance copy of Prime Time Romance by Kate Robb. This one hits shelves today!
I really enjoyed Robb’s debut last year, as she has a fun magical realism take on the traditional rom-com. As a millennial that grew up watching Dawson’s Creek, Charmed, Buffy and Beverly Hills 90210 (in syndication), this one definitely struck a happy cord with me - I loved picturing this fictional town and the banter between our main characters Brynn and Josh was so good - especially when they weren’t able to swear. Definitely recommend this one if you want a piece of nostalgia and a really quick read!
Thank you again to NetGalley and the publishers for this ARC in exchange for this honest review. Prime Time Romance hits stores today for you to check out!
This is one of those books where it’s best to just go in blind and see where the story takes you! I was humored, curious, and swooned. The MMC isn’t one of those too-good-to-be-real guys. He wasn’t completely flawless with a dream backstory. Every thought, feeling and action rang true and real. The FMC suffers from negative and doubting thoughts about themselves and their past that aren’t constantly taking over their internal musings, but they also lead her into making a number of decisions and actions. Our past tends to influence our future. This story shows what could or could not happen as you choose what to do when a seemingly perfect option is presented to you.
I definitely didn’t like this one as much as Kate’s debut This Spells Love
This author has a habit of ending their story a little bit too abruptly after the climax of the story, right around the “lesson” the character learns over the entirety of the book. So it ends up feeling like I read the book for a resolution that didn’t really feel worth it the few hundred pages I just spent.
What I do think worked though was the worldbuilding - Carson’s Cove was a weird little place to be and I loved the side characters we got to meet even if they were just this fake, alternate world. Luce & Sherry were immediately lovable.
The romance could have used a little bit more work, in my opinion. The chemistry was definitely there between Brynne and Josh but it didn’t feel developed enough for me when they finally “got together”. I needed more time. Their sex scenes also felt….awkward instead of sexy. Can’t explain it.
Overall I enjoyed it, because I mean I literally plowed through this one in literally 5 hours. It still felt like it was missing something, though.

This was such a cute romance novel. Brynn is recovering from her divorce by watching reruns of her favorite 90's soap, Carson's Cove. The story's blend of nostalgia and wish fullfimmet is fun. Cute premise, even if the execution feels a bit predictable!
Thank you, Netgalley, for an advanced copy of this novel!
I reaaaaalllly like Robb’s debut so I was thrilled to hear she was writing another magical realism romance! But this one didn’t wow me in the same way!
✨Dawson’s Creek-inspired
✨a birthday wish lands our FMC + her hot bartender roommate in a fictional TV world where they must play the parts they’re given
✨some good character growth!! especially learning to let go of the past so you can embrace + enjoy the future
✨the nostalgia of early 2000s teen dramas was REAL - and a reminder that the rewatch of them usually doesn’t hit the same🤪
✨only a couple spicy scenes🌶️ but you could easily skip them if need be!
This romance was light and cozy! nothing too high stakes or memorable but still enjoyable while it lasted! I liked the humor, I really liked Josh’s character, but I probably won’t remember much a week from now🤷🏻♀️
