I really wanted to like this one as much as This Spells Love but it just fell a bit flat for me. At points it was very predictable and I didn't really get as much chemistry as I usually like between the main characters.
I thought it was good, wasn't my favorite book of all time but I could sit down and read it. I loved the aspect of her being transferred into her TV show world. I thought that was fun, and her interacting with all the characters was cute.
I enjoyed the relationship and budding romance of Brynn and Josh. The book was creative in its approach and development of the story was clever. I felt the story was mediocre and a bit cheesy, despite the unpredictable twist of how these characters interacted. The antagonist was strange and therefore, I was unsure of how this plot would unfold. All in all, it's a decent book but not my favorite. There are a few, steamy sex scenes...nothing too extreme. For those who enjoy an easy, affable read, this is for you. It is definitely different than the average romance story. Thank you, NetGalley and The Dial Press for the advanced reader's copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I like everything about this book, except the 'dropped in a tv show' aspect.
I loved this spells love.
I am struggljng to understand how they were suddenly dropped into this TV setting. And how doesn't no one know the main character has become someone else entirely. And fletch has also?
I like the story otherwise, the banter, the love.
I just couldn't wrap my head around the "how we got here" aspect.
Thank you to The Dial Press for my copy! All thoughts are my own.
I can’t remember when I first heard of this book, but the moment I learned of the concept I wanted to read it ASAP. It was such a fun book to read and it made me want to dive back into the fanfiction worlds of my favorite movies, TV series, and books. There’s nothing better than getting lost in the world your favorite characters live in.
Synopsis:
“Newly divorced on the eve of her thirtieth birthday, Brynn is sick of heartbreak. She thought she had found her happy ending, but now she’s living with a roommate, Josh, to afford her mortgage, and she’s trying to adjust to her new single life. At least she’s got Carson’s Cove to binge, her beloved 2000s teenage soap. The show ended unexpectantly on a cliffhanger after five seasons, and the two main characters, Sloan and Spencer, never got to declare their love for each other. The show is still perfect in Brynn’s eyes; despite all the drama that goes down, things always have a way of working out in Carson’s Cove . . . unlike her own life.So when a birthday cake surprisingly shows up on her and Josh’s doorstep, Brynn makes a wish for the one thing she’s always wanted (but has failed to achieve herself): a happily-ever-after.The next morning, she doesn’t wake up in her apartment. She’s in Carson’s Cove . . . and Josh is there too. Everyone seems to know them, except they’re not Brynn and Josh; they’re Sloan, the sweetheart of Carson’s Cove, and Fletch, the town’s bad boy. And to get home, they have to make Brynn’s wish come true by ensuring Sloan and Spencer, the hometown heartthrob, end up together at last. But as they spend more time together, Brynn and Josh realize that Carson’s Cove might not be as perfect as seen on television . . . especially when they start developing feelings for each other in a plot twist no one has expected. Will they stick to the script, or will real love change the story forever?” —NetGalley
What I Liked:
The Concept—When I saw the blurb for this book, I knew it was an immediate must read for me. I think about my favorite comfort TV shows way too often and what I would change if given the chance!
The World—I definitely got all the vibes the author was trying to convey when it came to all the classic teen shows! I would love to watch this as a movie, like a reverse of Life Size.
The Characters—Brynn and Josh were delightful to spend some time with!
What Didn’t Work for Me:
Ending Pacing—Everything felt a little too quick and I would have liked a little bit of higher stakes.
Character Authenticity: 4/5 Spice Rating: 2/5 Overall Rating: 4/5
Content Warnings:
bullying, toxic friendship
It really took her yeeting this man into a bush to seal the deal for me! The author makes a pretty big ask of you early on and it wasn’t until about 50% that I was sure I could finish this ARC but after that, I let go and let Dawson! If this would have been a longer read it might have lost me and probably .5 stars but the nostalgia is very cute! Once I realized it was also a nod to Pleasantville I was able to get over the unexplained magic and just bask in the slow burn. I appreciated the author adding her callbacks into her notes because I needed to know if Chad Michaels was a CMM reference!
3.5 stars! I had fun with this book! I think if I had been more of a fan of Dawson's Creek and similar shows growing up I would have enjoyed it even more, but I was interested in the premise and went for it anyway. It was a fun read. I enjoyed the romance between the main two characters and the slow burn was satisfying. I think the book lost my interest a little towards the middle, but once the relationship started developing more I did enjoy it more.

I immediately got right into this book and couldn't put it down. I felt that it was a quick easy read which is sometimes what I need inbetween the heavier books I may read. I was cute, quirky, whimsical, and had some great throwbacks that I truly appreciated. Brynn and her roommate Josh wake up in Carson’s Cove, the scene of Brynn’s favorite, binge-able 2000’s teen drama. The only way to return to their real lives is by giving the characters the ending they deserved before the show was cancelled after 5 seasons. It was giving me The O.C. vibes for sure. However, I know others said that they felt like it was inspired by One Tree Hill and Dawson's Creek as well, which I sadly never watched so I am unable to say if it is similar to those. However, as a millennial I truly loved the nostalgia and enjoyed reading this. The spice level is on a lower scale, so if you know that going in, you can't go wrong with it.

Ever wonder what it would be like to leave the tragedy that is the dating reality we all live in and go into your favorite teen/young adult drama? Would the character you were in love with love you back?
From Goodreads: "Brynn’s happy ending has gone up in flames. She’s newly divorced and living with a roommate – Josh – to afford her mortgage. At least she’s got Carson’s Cove to binge - her beloved 90s teenage soap.
So when a birthday cake shows up on her and Josh’s doorstep, Brynn makes a wish for her own happily-ever-after.
The next morning, she doesn't wake up in her apartment. She's in Carson's Cove... and Josh is there too. Except they're not Brynn and Josh; they're the sweetheart and the bad boy."
This story is great for those who the works of Tessa Bailey.
It was an easy read but just nothing rememberable.
This book was so cute, comforting with a hiiint of spice. I found myself laughing and blushing throughout the book. If you're in need of a light-hearted, cozy quick-read, I definitely recommend this!
What I would've loved more is a more fleshed-out character development of our main characters. The book did explain their pasts, and we definitely do see self-improvement towards the end of the book, but if they added a more gradual, descriptive development to each of their stories, it would’ve added more layers to the story.
Overall, I really loved reading this, it was fun and sweet! I can't wait to read more from Kate Robb and thank you to NetGalley for this e-ARC!
I enjoyed Prime Time Romance more than Robb’s first novel! Brynn and Josh were such sweet characters and their relationship arc felt very realistic to me. Robb also separated this book from the first book by having different motives for the alternate universe, as well as both characters being aware of the fact that they were in AUs. I really enjoyed it and would recommend it to all rom-com lovers
I really couldn’t get into this book, man I tried and tried but failed every time. I struggled to buy into the concept of being placed into this Tv show world that meant so much to this character. I loved the idea in the description, but something fell flat when I began this book. I spent so long trying to pick it back up, only to get a few pages in and have to stop. I think this book will 100% be for people and not be for others- writer has a great voice and style, the premise is what didn’t match for me.
I enjoyed the hell out of this book. The magical realism was so fun, the 90s/00s teen tv references were delightful, and I was smiling and giggling and having fun the entire time. Kate Robb has emerged as a new favorite of mine!
This was an absolutely fun read and such a delightful concept. I can’t think of another romance quite like this.

This was such an interesting story and concept. I loved the development of the characters. Both were in a rut going nowhere and then a weird opportunity gives them a chance to change perspectives. Working together and apart they realize that they idealistic life of a teen drama confort show isn't what they want.
Wow! A second chance at love couldn’t be more entertaining than in this unique, adventurous fantasy universe of Twyla and Frank, the sequel we’ve been eagerly anticipating after the unputdownable, heart-throbbing adventure and epic love story of Hart and Mercy!
I'm not entirely sure how to classify this book, it's a contemporary romance with some magical/fantasy elements. This book is what you get if you combined Dawson's Creek with some light magical elements. It's....a weird book. I didn't love it, I went in thinking this was going to be a contemporary romance and the magical stuff really took me out of it and then there's a weird scene where Spencer, who is not the MMC, takes the FMC on a picnic, hands her a flask of kombucha and tells her to try it, it's so good that he had to bring cases of it from California. Unless it's some locally brewed specialty kombucha, that stuff can literally be found anywhere, including Canada, where this story is set. I liked the heroine but the hero felt like he was a little bit undercooked in character development.
“I want my life to play out exactly as it’s supposed to for once. No plot twists.”
And with that wish, in Kate Robb’s Prime Time Romance, Brynn, and incidentally her roommate Josh, finds herself in the town of her comfort show Carson’s Cove in the starring role of the perfect girl next door, and the only way home is to give the show the ending it didn’t get originally—only Brynn isn’t drawn to the town’s golden boy the way she thought she would, it’s Josh catching her eye. But with feelings flying, will they ever be able to get home? Oh, Prime Time Romance was an unexpected delight. As someone who has watched Dawson’s Creek more than once, I loved the parallels. I loved the magical realism and the teenage drama TV show energy of this. And the writing is beautiful! Brynn is kind and good hearted and warm, and I loved having Josh’s POV. He’s sexy and sweet and honest. For two people stuck in a kind of CW drama, I fell for their honesty with each other and the authenticity of their romance. The magical realism felt fresh, the conclusion was satisfying and there was no messy third act break up. It really took me by surprise and I couldn’t put this one down!
Have you ever had a favorite tv show that got cancelled and it never got the ending it deserved? I have several!!!! In Prime time Romance by @kate_robb_writes we follow Brynne and her roommate Josh who both unexpectedly end up in Carson’s Cove Brynne’s favorite tv show growing up. The only way they can go back home is to give the characters the ending they deserve. If you’re a big fan of 90s and early 2000s tv shows like Dawsons Creek and One Tree Hill pick up this book! Prime Time romance is so sweet, whimsical, and gave me the 90s/2000s nostalgia.

“A young divorcee finds herself in the ideal world of her favorite 90s nostalgia TV show, in this second-chance romantic comedy. Will they stick to the script, or will real love change the story forever?”
I was introduced to Kate Rob from Book-of-the-Month. This Spells Love was an unexpected delight for me last year. Prime Time Romance however, missed the mark. Between two leads with zero chemistry.
I saw someone label it as ,“Teen Beach Movie meets Funny Story by Emily Henry” I cannot stop laughing because it really is though. I was intrigued by the first few chapters by giving me roommates with potential - so much potential.
I am so sad that I could not get into this book. It fell flat to me, and I didn’t seem connected to anything. I really wanted more from this, because it was so hyped. Typically, I can get through books quite easy but this one was a struggle.
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
I spent my entire teenage life preparing for this very moment. Forged in the fires of the WB (CW) drama lineup. Seated for every original run episode of Dawson's Creek. I believe Kate Robb somehow had access to my high school diaries and wrote PRIME TIME ROMANCE knowing exactly how to make my fangirl dreams come true.
There is a BIG ask at the start of this Pleasantville meets Dawson's Creek magical realism romance. You have to believe a birthday cake wish can transport Brynn and Josh into the fictional sitcom world where they assume the identities of it's main characters.
If you can smile and nod and just go along with it, you're in for plenty of small town hijinks, "The More You Know" moral lessons, and a slow burn romance too hot for the network censors.
Brynn and Josh are both transported to nostalgia land but they use the time to process their own individual traumas. I loved reading Brynn's nostalgia expertise but also how she adapted and accepted her own main character energy. And while Josh had no personal connection to the fictional set of Carson's Cove, he uses the opportunity to gain confidence in a space that was once a source of trauma. Love the individual growth of characters that happens alongside falling in love.
A fun fast-paced read perfect for binge watchers and comfort readers alike.
