Prime Time Romance is an Adult Women’s Fiction novel that was so fun to read.
This one is for the teen drama fans. There’s quite a few Easter eggs sprinkled in throughout the story and many of the characters names are a nod to a character/actor from a teen drama. That in itself was so fun to see, but I also really appreciated the writing style. I loveddd This Spells Love so I was excited to be approved for this one. And as far as slow burn romances go, it didn’t disappoint.
I also appreciated how this book looks at the “everything works out in the end” magic of teen dramas and critiques it. Because not everything works out in the end for every character. Those who are “different” or who don’t fit the sweet and charming girl/boy next door mold get shafted time after time. And I liked that this was called out.
I really enjoyed Brynn and Josh as characters and I liked them as a couple. I do wish we had a little more closure in Josh’s POV, but still a fun book overall.

Prime Time Romance is an absolute delight from start to finish. Robb delivers all the atmosphere and charm of a small-town Hallmark romance but with a sexy, magical twist. Any reader who has ever rooted for the bad boy to get the girl, or for the girl to get her long deserved happily-ever-after will fall for this completely original and binge-worthy book.
Someone tell me why I love roommates to lovers! It’s just like you know I’ve been there the whole time and then boom I’m attracted to you!
I love it.
Plus throw in a spin of some Dawson’s creek and 13 going on 30 vibes.
She wakes up in an alternated reality and she’s bound to get her happily ever after!
This book is a definite throwback to the 2000s and will make you feel nostalgic.
Not sure how I felt about this as the story wasn't very compelling and had to put it down and revisit when i remembered about it. The characters felt flat, but the concept and set up of the story had a lot of potential!
Thank you to Netgalley, Kate Robb, and publishers for the advance readers copy.
Often times when I write reviews, regardless how I felt one way or the other, I have a list of things worth noting. But in this case I really don't have much to say. I really enjoyed Kate Robbs previous book, but this one lacked anything that really sparked interest for me. It just felt very generic, very middle of the road. Not great, not terrible. I honestly kept forgetting to write this review because the book just left my mind the moment I was done.
The only things I can chalk this lack of distinct enjoyment up to, aside from personal preference, is the characters. I never really got a sense of who the main characters were, and additionally I never got their chemistry. It felt like they were telling us how attractive they found one another, and we were supposed to take their word for it. Additionally, in This Spells Love, the side characters added a lot of comedy when the love interest wasn't around. The side characters in this one didn't provide any of that, making the whole experience feel very mediocre for me.
Don't get me wrong, this book isn't bad by any means. I love Kate Robbs concepts, they're always very fun ideas. This one just lacked anything to really hook me in, and was missing some key elements from the last book that really made it shine.
Realllllyy had to just embrace the strange cringy concept of jumping into your favorite TV show & becoming the characters. It was a little creepy and strange but I understand the nostalgia. I almost couldn’t finish this one but it ended up nice enough and I enjoyed a few of the characters. If you are into the concept then I think you will enjoy this book, but I just had a hard time.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an advance copy of this book. All opinions are mine alone.
1.75!
"You can’t start the next chapter of your life if you keep rewatching the old one"
To be very honest, I have no idea what happened. This book had such a good premise and I was actually invested during the start but I was so busy with exams that the hold that this book had on me slowly drifted away as I read this more and the less inclined I felt to finish it and I mean I was reading another book at that time and that did not fail to hold my attention, so it was this books problem. I even skimmed the last half I was the bored and that makes me sad because my hopes were high when I got an arc of this book :(
Brynn and Josh were OK main characters, I didn't find any attachment towards them, it was like they were just there and I was reading about them...didn't feel anything and the whole plot surrounding them had so much potential but it fell victim to a messy execution which did not help with the case of me getting bored.
Finally, the romance. I didn't see it! I mean I knew who it was between but the build up and everything was so mid that I actually wasn't interested in it at all and the smutty scenes felt so wrong 😭😭 because this had a more teenage vibe to it and adding two very graphic sex scenes in this book felt out of the blue and unexpected ( the scenes weren't bad at all) they just felt out of place and felt like they were not needed.
So when I read the last 10% I wondered why am I even reading this book?? I don't like the characters, the romance or the plot. I just enjoyed a few of their interactions and the start.
I personally would not recommend it because it felt vey boring and it failed to hold my attention!
If you are a certain sort of elder millennial who watched Dawson’s Creek live every Thursday with your high school girlfriends, you will want to read this book for the nostalgia alone. It is whimsical, it is silly, and it is definitely unbelievable. But it was exactly what I wanted from a book dedicated to Joshua Jackson.
Kate Robb is now an auto-read for me. This is her second book, and I’m a big fan of her winky-eyed approach to the rom-com genre. She’s inside the joke with us, but she’s careful not to make tooooo much fun of it. Tough line to balance, but she does it very well.
4.5 stars rounded up.
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House - Dial Press Trade for the arc!
This novel was a fun read STEEPED in nostalgia for those who love Dawson's Creek or One Tree Hill. Alone it was an enjoyable rom-com, but those readers old enough to appreciate the nostalgic references will certainly love this story even more. Be ready to suspend disbelief and just believe in the magic for a bit. If you're able to do that, you will enjoy the ride!
Newly divorced on the eve of her thirtieth birthday, Brynn is sick of heartbreak. She thought she had found her happy ending, but now she’s living with a roommate, Josh, to afford her mortgage, and she’s trying to adjust to her new single life. At least she’s got Carson’s Cove to binge, her beloved 2000s teenage soap. The show ended unexpectedly on a cliffhanger after five seasons, and the two main characters, Sloan and Spencer, never got to declare their love for each other. The show is still perfect in Brynn’s eyes; despite all the drama that goes down, things always have a way of working out in Carson’s Cove, unlike her own life. So when a birthday cake surprisingly shows up on her and Josh’s doorstep, Brynn makes a wish for the one thing she’s always wanted (but has failed to achieve herself): a happily-ever-after.
The next morning, she doesn’t wake up in her apartment. She’s in Carson’s Cove, and Josh is there too. Everyone seems to know them, except they’re not Brynn and Josh; they’re Sloan, the sweetheart of Carson’s Cove, and Fletch, the town’s bad boy. And to get home, they have to make Brynn’s wish come true by ensuring Sloan and Spencer, the hometown heartthrob, end up together at last. But as they spend more time together, Brynn and Josh realize that Carson’s Cove might not be as perfect as seen on television . . . especially when they start developing feelings for each other in a plot twist no one has expected.
This was a fun ride down memory lane for me. I grew up in the days of Dawson's Creek, so this was nostalgic for me. It felt a bit outdated, but the magical aspect of this and the characters kept me entertained. Great for a light read if you are looking for a quick summer/fall book!
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the advanced digital reader's copy (ARC) in exchange for an honest review!
Cute fast romcom. Will definitely recommend to my patrons looking for something cute and fast paced.
Prime Time Romance is a delightful escapade into the world of second chances and nostalgic TV dreams come true. Newly divorced Brynn, who’s nursing her heartbreak with endless reruns of her favorite 2000s teen soap, Carson’s Cove, suddenly finds herself and her roommate, Josh, magically transported into the show itself! As Sloan and Fletch, they must ensure the series’ ultimate love story concludes happily to return home.
But with real feelings bubbling up between Brynn and Josh, the lines between script and reality blur in the most charming way. The author's whimsical romantic comedy is a five-star binge-read, perfect for anyone who’s ever dreamed of living inside their favorite TV show. Contemporary romance with a mix of magical realism is my new favorite thing and this book totally fits that bill. Get ready for plot twists, heartfelt moments, and a love story worthy of prime time!
Thank you to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!
ATTENTION DAWSON’S CREEK FANS - THIS ONE IS FOR YOU!!!!
Okay, I just finished this, so please don’t mind this chaotic review, but I just loved it so much! I was always a fan of Pacey and wished it was Pacey’s Creek, so I basically got that wish with this (far too short) romcom.
It’s Brynn’s 30th birthday, and she’s down in the dumps after her recent divorce from the man she thought was her happily ever after. She’s guarded, hurting, and her brother recently moved out, having his friend Josh take over as Brynn’s roommate. Brynn and Josh live on totally different schedules and hardly occupy the apartment at the same time because Josh is a bartender and works nights.
After a terrible birthday night out at the bar where Josh works, Brynn and Josh go home together and decide to hang out and watch Carson’s Cove on Netflix. However, by the next morning, they don’t wake up in their apartment—they wake up inside the TV show.
Forces beyond their understanding put them in the show to revive the Joey and Pacey characters, but Joey is Sloan, and Pacey is Fletch. Their only way home is to play along as these characters and give the show the happily-ever-after ending it never got when it was abruptly canceled years ago.
Did I say I loved this yet? Oh, I did? Well, let me say it again: I LOVED THIS. The 90s/2000s nostalgia and teen drama vibes were so palpable. The way the author wrote out scenarios that absolutely could have happened in the show was flawless. If you are a big teen drama fan, especially from the 90s/2000s, this will give you all the feels.
I loved Brynn and Josh, and this is only the second romance book written by this author, but I KNOW she is going to be a force in the romcom book field if she keeps this up. She writes with such whimsy, and it’s always full of heart. The alternating POVs were perfect, and the chemistry/spice she concocts is addictive and delicious.
If you want to take a step back in time and experience the nostalgia of teen dramas and feel like you’re actually in a TV show like Dawson’s Creek, and if you’ve always been a Joey & Pacey stan, this is 100% for you!
Thank you NetGalley, Dial Press & Kate Robb so much for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion! 🫶🏻🥹
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. This reminded be of 2000 teen dramas and I loved every second of it
A bit of a different read for me, and I definitely struggled to get into it but ended up enjoying it in the end. Would recommend to anyone who loves romance with a twist.
I was looking forward to reading this, as I had enjoyed Ms. Robb's debut and the premise sounded fun. But PRIME TIME ROMANCE is missing the humor and the chemistry of the author's previous novel. The characters and writing were pretty bland to me, and so for these reasons I did not finish the book.
I think this is perfect summer beach read! Something that is quick, easy and fun to read! Interested to see what the author writes next!
What a unique concept for a book! Felt like 13 going on 30 if Jenna wished to be put in to Dawsons Creek with Matty!
I usually enjoy a cheesy rom-com, but this one was a bit too cheesy even for me. To be honest, I DNF’d it at the 50% mark.
It is well written, but I found the theme of a woman accidentally being caught in a 2000’s teen romance show (Carson’s Cove, obviously based in Dawsons Creek) to be a bit too cringey. It’s obvious that the author wants you to make the link between the book and Dawsons Creek from the dedication onwards. As a reader, I like more subtle links to the inspiration, I don’t need to be hit over the head with it.
The insta-love romance isn’t really my jam either. I personally prefer for the feelings between the two MCs to gradually develop.
The book is otherwise well written, and I definitely would like to try other books by this author.
Thank you to Random House Publishing Group and Netgalley for providing me with a. ARC of this book to read and review.
Dawsons Creek meets The Good Place!
Prime Time Romace was such a cute read.
It has such a unique plot that throws the main characters into a 2000's teen soap/melodrama TV show. In an effort to work together to get out of this weird space time continuum, they are forced to see each other differently and create their own happily ever after.
I love the spark of a couple that already knows each other, whether it be 2nd chance romance, friends to lovers, or in this case, roommates. Josh and Brynn's journey to each other was a swoony slow burn that had me holding my breath and kicking my feet. The spice was relatively low, but it felt right in the context of this book.
Thank you to Random House Publishing, NetGalley, and Kate Robb for an E-ARC copy of this book to review
