Prime Time Romance by Kate Robb is the kind of book that’s perfect for when you want a cute, feel-good romance with just the right amount of drama! The story follows Lila, who works at a TV network and ends up falling for someone totally unexpected, her new coworker, Max. But of course, things get complicated, especially when their personal lives start to mix with their professional ones.

What I really liked about this book is how easy it is to get wrapped up in the characters’ lives. Lila is relatable, funny, and a little awkward in the best way. Max is charming and mysterious, but not in a way that feels overdone. The chemistry between them is really good, and the way their relationship builds feels natural and real. There’s definitely some tension and back-and-forth, but that’s what makes it fun!

The pacing is quick, and there’s just the right balance of romance, work drama, and self-discovery. It’s not overly complicated, but it’s full of those little moments that make you smile and root for the couple. The secondary characters are fun too, adding a little extra humor and depth to the story.

This was a super cute romcom! The FMC is having a not so great birthday. Somehow, she gets stuck as the main character from her comfort tv show - with her hot roommate. Forced proximity, magical realism, and they're roommates? Sold.

This was an interesting read but I liked the idea behind it. I appreciate the concept of having to "experience" the love story you think you understand from a show firsthand to see that emotions are more complex than television. Although it's only Brynn who appreciates the show, the fact that Josh got pulled in to the fictional world who just so happen to land a character that somehow resonates with his situation IRL also gives more depth to the one-sided happy ending Brynn thought Sloan deserves. I love the romance that built up around the story as it didn't feel forced to me.

If you grew up watching The WB in the early 2000s, this book is for you! The Dawson's Creek vibes and other early aughts Easter Eggs made me laugh out loud. I loved this book! Kind of like a choose your own adventure mixed with a reboot of your favorite show. I didn't feel the romance between Brynn and Josh, but it was better than the supposed romance between Sloan and Spencer from the tv show. Despite that, my teenage heart loved reliving the glory days through this fun book!

I really enjoyed premise of this book. That is what pulled me in because who doesn't have a comfort TV show? I am not sure where I lost the momentum for the book. I enjoyed the beginning and I think it was a great start, but started to drag once we got into the middle of the book. I also felt the characters were relatively shallow and static. I think adding further depth would help enhance the reading experience more.

I received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for posting an honest review.

Thank you to the publisher and to Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for a review. Prime Time Romance follows Brynn, a 30 year old divorcee who is happiest reliving her favorite teen soap from 15 years ago, and Josh, her relatively unknown to her roommate. After making a wish that magically transports both of them to the fictional northeastern town Carson's Cove from the show, they must figure out how to team up to get themselves back home.

This book has all the trappings of a cozy romance, two likable main characters, a semi-fictional love triangle, and an idyllic small town setting. Brynn felt very real in the way that she was struggling to move on with her past and open a new decade. I think the message the book sends that we wanted when we were young may not always be the best for us is an important one as well. However, the magical realism of it all left something (for me) to be desired. I understand that it's not 100% realistic (hence the magical part) but the premise/rules/world building felt flimsy at times. This was a solid 3.5 stars for me and I would recommend to anyone who enjoys magical realism though.

I’ love Kate Robb’s magical realism and the way she writes male leads, and Prime Time Romance definitely has its moments. The cozy, Pleasantville-like vibes were so fun, and I loved the small-town charm. The magic was there, but the story felt a little lighter than I hoped. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a sweet and charming, just not one that sticks like This Spells love did!

as a 90s/00s teen drama connoisseur, i absolutely loved the premise of this and had high hopes. in the end though, the execution could have been better in my opinion. there were definitely some cute/intriguing elements, and it did keep my attention (i read 60% of the story in one sitting), but in the end, everything just felt very disjointed. mainly, I think we needed more world/character building and some better pacing. outside of brynn and josh, everyone and everything felt very surface-level, so it was hard for me to connect with the story the way i wanted to. i also think that brynn and josh lacked the swoon-worthy, angsty chemistry that i was looking for.

all this being said, i do think that overall, it was a cute read. it was well written and the main characters felt pretty relatable.

First time reading from this author and had trouble with the jump from reality into the sitcom but it was a sweet story with some fun parts but struggled with the overall feel and concept. I did enjoy how see resolved the win for the FMC to find a the solution on her own and without what what laid out for her but there were some link that struggled for me.

Not as good as This Spells Love, but definitely good enough that I'll keep reading Kate Robb's books. Fun premise, and I loved her Easter eggs explanations at the end.

I am loving this magical realism renaissance we're in! This was a super fun concept, young divorcee gets sucked into her favorite tv show alongside her new roommate she hardly knows. They are transported to the picture perfect town of Carson's Cove, it was giving early 2000s teen drama, picture One Tree Hill and Gilmore Girls. They are stuck in the bodies of the town's golden girl Sloan and bad boy Fletcher and can't leave until "Sloan" gets her happy ending. This was really fun and unique, my only gripe would be that the romance needed more time to flesh out! But there were a couple spicy scenes that were on point!

If you were an avid viewer of teen dramas during the late 1990's/early 2000's (looking at you Dawson's Creek and OTH fans) then you will definitely enjoy this. Bryan is about to celebrate her 30th birthday, but things in her life haven't gone to plan. How does one celebrate this momentous occasion? By settling down in her living room to watch her favorite teen drama Carson's Cove with her very attractive roommate Josh. Combining comedy, angst, drama, and nostalgia this book was a nice way to escape real life for a while. I definitely recommend it. (By the way, I would absolutely cast Josh as Pacey J. Witter.)

I had high hopes for Prime Time Romance—the premise seemed like such a fun and fresh idea! Brynn and Josh waking up in Carson’s Cove as Sloane and Fletch definitely set the stage for a wild ride. And don’t get me wrong, it was interesting at certain points! Watching them navigate their on-screen personas in their version of a “real” world had its entertaining moments.

That said, something about this book just didn’t click for me. The plot felt a bit too predictable, like you could see every twist and turn coming from miles away. From the moment Brynn and Josh woke up in their fictional town, I had a pretty solid idea of where things were headed, and unfortunately, I was right. While I didn’t mind the predictability at first, it made the story feel less exciting as it went on.

I really wanted to love this book, but it didn’t quite deliver the punch I was hoping for. That said, if you’re into quirky concepts and don’t mind a straightforward romance, it might be worth checking out—it just fell short for me.

I thought this was a fun and cute romcom. I really liked the idea of them being transported into a teen drama. I feel like both Brynn and Josh are relatable in their feelings about being transported into this world, teenage me would’ve loved to go into my fav teen drama but adult me would’ve been a little concerned. I also liked Brynn and Josh’s relationship and its development, although it went a little fast for me ad would’ve appreciated if they had a little bit more of a relationship beforehand beyond being just roommates with little to no interaction.

I absolutely loved This Spells Love by Kate Robb, so I was very excited for her newest rom com, but sadly I didn't love it as much. I felt like the romance was so convenient, and I never could really get invested in the two main characters' relationship. It felt forced and almost insta love, which I fully know was not the case, but it also felt like it was if that makes sense? I wanted to love this one, but it just didn't work for me like Kate Robb's first book did.

During cod gave been better and some of the characters did need more developing including their romance. Over all the nostalgic feel is the best part of this novel, just wish it was a little more original.

True rating: 3.25

I have lost count of the number of times in my life that I wished I could be transported straight into my favorite tv show/movie/or book and find myself in the arms of a favorite fictional man. I enjoyed this fantasy romance and getting to see what MIGHT happen if that wish were to come true. Obviously the premise was a bit of a reach, but the underlying message of self-actualization and realizing what your true dreams are is always a good one to revisit. And the fact that it made me think of my favorite tv show as a teen, Dawson's Creek, was a fun bit of nostalgia. The concept was fun and unique and the delivery was good, but not great.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for this review copy.

This was such a fun romance. I loved the MCs so much and was rooting for them the entire time. Will definitely be purchasing a physical copy in the near future.

It took me forever to finally read this arc because I wanted to listen to it on audiobook because I love audiobooks with different narrators for the FMC and MMCs. My hopes were low at starting this audiobook because it has 3.61 stars on Goodreads and I am weary of books with less than 3.8 stars. My apologies for both of those things!

Next point: I do not like crassness. I was annoyed before the first chapter even ended because I’d already read about “blowies”, genital straws taped to a wall, failed bumble dates, getting felt up, using your “friends” for a bar invite, and heard “bitches” at least 25 times.

Main point: KEEP READING!!! DON’T LET THE FIRST CHAPTER TURN YOU AWAY FROM THIS BOOK! The rest of it is so fun and cute! Brynn and Josh are meant to beeeeeee. Too cute.

This was fun and simple and light. It hugged my teenage soap opera loving heart. I wish Carson’s Cove was a real show, I’d watch the ish out of it.
