I could not put this one down! It was so cute and I loved the nostalgia of the prime time references, and made me think of movies like 13 going on 30 and 16 candles, but in a very original way! I love the vibes from Brynn and Josh, they are the absolute cutest.
This book was just the fun, wholesome and quick read I needed. As someone in her late 20s (quickly coming up on 30), I love reading about a relatable character who has gone through something so realistic. This was a very unique concept for a romance novel that I can appreciate. There were some characters that I think could have used more development but all in all I really loved Brynn and Josh.
I loved this book. The characters were so likable and the plot was fast paced and intriguing. The author’s writing style is so cozy, and I definitely started tearing up a little towards the end. 10/10 recommend!!!

I initially enjoyed the characters, but when Brynn went into the tv show, I was as no longer attentive. Some random guy shows up (prior to her wish) with a cake that transports her into her beloved show. How did he get there?
Oh my gosh this was so good! I absolutely loved all of the Easter Eggs to popular 90s teen dramas (i.e. Dawson's Creek, Buffy, etc) and it was just such a fun story. I wish I could stay with Josh and Brynn for their next adventure!
Thank you to NetGalley and to Random House Publishing for my digital ARC!
“For a guy who claims he can’t deliver an epic monologue, that was pretty perfect.”
If you are or ever have been a fan of lovable and binge-worthy teenage television dramas then this book is most definitely for you. Think Dawson’s Creek meets Saved by the Bell with a healthy dose of magical realism!!
Brynn’s world is a bit of a mess but she dreams of living her best life with friends who understand her and a true love by her side. So on her thirtieth birthday she makes a wish for a happily ever after and wakes up immersed in her favorite tv show with her adorable roommate Josh who has no idea what is happening. Carson’s Cove is the perfect New England Town where everyone is beautiful; every tragic event magically works itself out and every hurt feeling can be fixed with a grand romantic gesture. But Brynn and Josh are no longer Brynn and Josh, they are Sloan and Fletch, characters from the original show and the only way they can get home is for Brynn to fall in love with Spencer, the hometown heartthrob. Sticking to the script however proves difficult, especially since Brynn is starting to realize that the ending she once dreamed of for Sloan is no longer the one she wants for herself.
Prime Time romance is fast-paced and so enjoyable! I loved Brynn and Josh’s relationship and the fact that neither of them chose to follow the path laid out in front of them. I absolutely adored that there were so many easter eggs from some of my favorite shows in this book! Everything from capturing the small town vibes of Dawson’s Creek or Stars Hollow, to the nods to Buffy, 90210, Saved by the Bell, The Good Place and Pretty Little Liars. It was nostalgic and just so much fun!
You have to get fully onboard with the magical aspect of the story but once you’re there I think you will really enjoy it! I loved Kate’s debut novel, This Spells Love and Prime Time Romance is equally as sweet -- A magical rom-com that you definitely won’t want to miss!
I enjoyed this book overall. I did feel some parts dragged out and some picked up.
I found myself getting bored and turning the pages quickly.
I loved the author’s debut so I had high hopes for this one. I like that her books aren’t typical romance and have a fun story line. The idea for this one sounded fun but I never got super into it. I think it would make a cute cheesy movie tho 😂
I will still look forward to the author’s next release and am excited to see what she comes up with!
So, I didn't read the synopsis of this book before diving into it. Went solely off the cover and I'm SO glad that I did it this way. If I had known the premise of the book I, unfortunately, feel that I would have looked it over and missed out on one of the best books I've read in a while.
Before I get too ahead of myself here is a quick summary: Brynn, a new divorcee, is celebrating her 30th birthday and feeling lost. She feels as though her "happily ever after" has slipped away from her and she doesn't know if love is in her cards. Due to happen circumstance she ends up cuddled up on the couch before midnight on her birthday with her bartending, (SEXY), roommate, Josh. She dives into the comfort of her favorite TV show, Carsen's Cove, when an unexpected delivery arrives with a birthday cake. She makes her birthday wish and this is when things go haywire...... Upon waking up Josh and Brynn have found themselves in the, so-called, perfect, quaint town of Carsen's Cove. Will it be like Brynn expects? Will she be able to give her favorite character her "happy ever after?"
This book was so incredibly fun and nostalgic to read. As a lover of One Tree Hill, The OC and other teen dramas this really took my imagination to a fun place while reading. The town is major "Pleasantville" vibes with the perfect facade and the perfect people. Having Brynn and Josh intrude really shakes things up...in a good way! I truly don't have any critiques of this book. The love story unfolds pretty much as predicted and you really are rooting for the love story. The cast of "supporting characters" make it feel as if you are reading your favorite teen TV show.
Robb really hit the nail on the head with the theme of this book and capturing what these types of shows are all about. There's the fine line of escaping through these shows from your own, messy reality, and then actually being catapulted into the world itself. Some things are better off left to the imagination....as Brynn learns fast!
Thank you so much to Kate Robb and Random House Publishing Group - Random House for the eARC of this title. I love a good romance book. This book had a touch of magic and some great characters, It is a great quick read, It wasn't my favorite book but was still great! I would definitely recommend this book.
Let me preface this by saying, I love romance.
I was instantly drawn to the main characters, and felt they were fairly well developed. Characterization is the most important thing to me in a novel, and Kate Robb hit the mark with that here.
I chose this book because it's a romance, one of my favorite genres. I also love magical realism, and might have been pleasantly surprised (having forgotten the blurb detail!) to discover that it fits this genre as well.
The main character is still lamenting a two year old divorce, and feels that she'll never find love again. She makes a wish to be in the "perfect" make-believe world of her favorite TV show. And finds herself there. (As that's in the blurb, it's not a spoiler, unless you forget the blurb like me!)
So, up until that part I was really enjoying this. And don't get me wrong, there was a lot about this book to enjoy. But I did feel like how she was sucked into the TV show was a bit hokey. There were a couple other bits prior to that which were supposed to be believable, but really weren't.
All that said, I did enjoy this book. It was light and flowed well. I enjoyed the main characters throughout, as well as a couple of the secondary characters. If you're looking for a book that is fun and cute, and don't mind it being less than believable, I recommend this one!
I received this book in exchange for giving an honest and fair review.
Ok how cool would it be to actually get sucked into a tv show? And to also find love? Yes please, count me in. I really enjoyed this! Very relatable main characters with good character growth!
I’m an early 90’s baby and this gave me the good nostalgia just picturing being sucked into some of my fav 90’s shows.
Will post on my bookstagram on release day- @thatbookishteach
Nostalgic Teen Drama Vibes? Friends to Lovers? Follow Up to This Spells Love? I'm in!
In this quirky romantic comedy, newly divorced Brynn escapes into the "perfect world" of her beloved 2000s teen soap, Carson’s Cove, only to find herself and her roommate Josh have been transformed into the show’s characters (not by choice - Sheldon, you are creepy). To return home, they must ensure a happily-ever-after for the series' star-crossed lovers, all while discovering unexpected feelings for each other. As they navigate the scripted perfection of Carson’s Cove, Brynn and Josh question whether real love might rewrite their own storylines.
Is everything in this book super cohesive, and makes total sense? No, they are going back to a different universe. But it's still a cute, easy read!
Thanks to NetGalley, Random House Publishing, and Kate Robb for allowing me access to this book. All opinions are my own.
Thank you NetGalley and Random House Publishing/ Dial Press Trade Paperback for the eARC of this book in return for an honest review.
Prime Time Romance, is not only a second chance to make your favorite tv show get the ending it deserves, but also a second chance at healing yourself. I absolutely loved the premise of this book. Being sucked into your favorite tv show to get with the heartthrob? Yes please. Overall I rated this story a 3.6 star, rounded up to a 4 star. I really enjoyed our main characters, I thought they were super relatable. I enjoyed that they had problems that resolved both together and on their own. If you’re like me, and are a sucker for character growth, you’ll definitely enjoy this story. This story read as real teenage drama show to me instead of it just being another book. It gave me all the nostalgic feelings and was just fun and easy read. I also enjoyed that we get a “villian” character, in true tv show drama style. I think this story included all the ingredients needed to be fun, quirky, and a great read.
There were a couple things i think needed to be worked on, and it’s mostly in the romance department. Now we could definitely see the love blossoming between Brynn and Josh. It’s with Spencer that I was having some problems. Spencer is suppose to be the dream guy, the one who the leading girl ends up with. When Brynn/Sloan went on dates with Spencer, I felt they were slightly lacking. It felt short, choppy, and surface level. The way that Spencer and his relationship with Sloan was talked up, I expected a little more. I think this is a very easy fix with a few tweaks here and there.
Overall I think the story was really fun and unique. The nostalgic feels I got made me really happy. I enjoyed the Easter eggs of our favorite teenage against drama shows that were placed throughout the story. I enjoyed the main characters and watching them grow together and separately as people. I liked the plot and the writing style. I’m looking forward to reading more books by Kate Robb.
I fudging loved this book!
This was such a fun book, hits right in the nostalgia.
Brynn having some hard times uses a TV show from her teens to break her broken heart. While watching it with her very attractive roommate, Josh, she gets a mysterious cake at the door that comes with one wish. The next day she wakes up in Carson Cove, taking the place of Sloan, the main character on the TV sitcom. Stuck in this town she has to find Sloan her happy ending, but Josh seems to have accidentally been wished to Cove Creek too. While Brynn is trying to find Sloan her planned happiness she can't seem to ignore the chemistry between Josh and herself.
I think this was a really good follow up to "this spells love", which I absolutely adored. The characters are lovable and believable in their journey. Mild spice level. As a vibes/mood rating it was almost prefect, except for the use of "folds".
I was not sure what to expect with this book but was pleasantly surprised to find a charming combination of Gilmore Girls, Dawson's Creek, and Pleasantville rolled into one. As someone who has often wondered what life would be like on the inside of my favorite comfort shows, it was a fun ride to see how Brynn handled her situation.
This one is for all the girls who knew Pacey Witter was endgame from season one episode one. Reading Prime Time Romance was like falling head first into my favorite 90’s/00’s teen drama with a smidge more spice.
The book follows Brynn who is heartbroken, and fresh off a divorce. She’s living with her new roommate Josh and feeling adrift as she enters her thirties. She takes solace in her cheesy but comforting TV show Carson’s Cove, where everything is perfect, and every episode ends happily ever after.
When Brynn makes a magical birthday wish both she and Josh are suddenly sucked into the world of Carson’s Cove. To get back home Josh and Brynn must rewrite the ending of Carson’s Cove to give the main character Sloan the perfect ending she never got because the show was cancelled.
Josh and Brynn learn quickly that perfection is overrated. Life is unpredictable and messy, and that’s what makes it such an excellent adventure.
This book was so fun and unexpected for me. It had me hooked. I felt like I was back in high school watching my favorite team drama. Calling all WB and CW fans of the late 90’s and early 00’s: this book is your time machine! Thanks to Netgalley and Random House Publishing Group for the ARC
3.5 stars! I enjoyed this book and the nostalgia I felt. It was hard for me to feel attached to Carson’s Cove because it was based on a tv show that didn’t exist. I know it couldn’t be based on a real show but that disconnect made it a bit challenging for me to delve into. That said, it was a quick and easy romance that I enjoyed!
This is a super cute fluffy rom-com perfect for anyone who loves 90s/2000s teen dramas! There are plenty of easter eggs referencing top teen dramas, especially Dawson’s Creek. If you’re looking for nostalgia and magical realism, this book is perfect!
This book hooked me in from the first chapter. I loved the character development and how the story progressed.
