The hat that Freda loves, and that her grandma loved so much before her she let Freda inherit it – it was going to be the star of the class photo, but now it's gone missing. But this book isn't about the anxiety caused by losing something much-loved, for the hat is found – being used in a kind of Plan B situation. No, these pages are to show us that when Plan B is better than we had ever thought, we can live with it, and if our fabulous hat is now something even more fabulous – well, so be it. This is a simple message – and the dinosaur characters are just about cute and colourful enough to make us read it willingly. I don't think this volume will end up being something a child will refuse to let go of, but it's still worth four stars.

What an adorable children's book with some positive life lessons. It's picture day at Dino Day Care and Freda has come prepared wearing her favorite hat. Sadly it's lost during play and she and her friends search all over for it. It's finally found but it is now being used as a bird's nest. Freda shows patience and kindness by allowing the bird to keep her favorite hat. The class then creates new hats for themselves to wear for picture day. I loved this book so much and so did my young boys. We all enjoyed the colorful and child-friendly illustrations. This would be a great book for new readers!

When it’s picture day at dino daycare, Freda has decided to wear her favourite hat for her photo. There’s time to play before then, though, and somehow Freda’s hat is nowhere to be found, at least at first. When her teacher and the other students go in search of the hat, they find it - but… it’s up in a tree! And there’s a bird there using her hat as a nest!

Of course, Freda wants her hat back…but seeing what it is being used for, she decides that the bird needs it more than she does, even if it is her favourite hat.

A beautifully illustrated story with themes of teamwork, generosity, compassion, and friendship.

This was an adorable story - it would have worked well with a diverse cast of animals but of course at this age everything works better with dinos. I loved the message of selflessness and my daughter loved the illustration (and the dinos, of course).

This book was cute. One of the dinos loses something and everyone ends up looking for it. But the little dino learns that maybe things can double and be useful for someone else too.

Thanks NetGalley for this ARC.

I found this book to be very engaging. The story was cute and I think kids will understand the message of friendship and helping those in need. The characters were developed enough to make them interesting and sympathetic, and the book moved at a good pace. I especially liked the drawings. There was plenty of details that kids can look at and should help maintain their attention, the illustrations also add to the story and help to complete it.

I was invited to read and review this book and recieved an advanced copy from the Author and Netgalley. All opinions are my own.

My two year old and I LOVED Picture Day at Dino Play 🥰. She has lost some favourite clothing items and misplaced toys she adores, so it felt like a very timely book!

The illustrations were lovely and I really loved the gentle positive message the book shared.

Thanks NetGalley and Northshore books for the arc to read and review. All thoughts and opinions are mine (and my daughters)!

I love the adorable illustrations in this book. The colors are bright and engaging, and the characters are all so cute. The story is sweet, too, and teaches a good lesson about sharing and changing plans when things don’t turn out how you’d hoped. I think my 3 & 4 year olds would both enjoy this one!
